i'm amanda del castillo in santa clara where a fast-moving four-alarm fire destroyed a condo construction site. >> vice president joe biden is attending a fundraising event the same day a top democratic donor here in the bay area says he is pulling his support. >> i'm here where the city kicked off the annual pride celebration. "abc 7 news" starts right now. now, news to build a better bay area from abc 7. >> by the time we were out, it was already halfway across the building. >> a big, raging fire and it was really scary. >> a huge fire devours a luxury condominium complex under construction in santa clara, sending workers running for their lives. >> our exclusive sky map 7 technology shows where the

flames broke out. it started just before 11:30 this morning. >> amanda del castillo is there live. amanda. >> reporter: dan, ama, in the last hour and a half we saw crews putting out some small spot fires. those are now out and the scene has actively calmed down. we have noticed in the last five minutes that police have let traffic through at least one direction here along el camino real, but the lanes closest to the scene remain closed at this time. just a few hundred feet away from massive flames and heavy, dark smoke, witness video captures the intensity behind friday's four-alarm fire. >> i will say it did not take a minute to spread the fire, very quick. >> the business took a hit, his windows cracked, right across the street from the construction site. plastic parts on one car parked nearby appeared melted and more. what would have been the anatara

villas consumed by fire damage. one worker at the site was injured in the escape. others recalled what happened only moments before running for their lifts. >> i thought somebody had a torch close to me because it felt like a lot of heat. i got scared and i looked up and there was a fire in the corner of the building. >> reporter: flames produced such an intense heat surrounded structures started to smoke. some residents gathered garden hoses to keep the fire at a distance, other notified neighbors. >> there's a lot of residential properties here with older residents. they were knocking on doors getting people out. >> reporter: three dozen firefighters were on hand. atf investigators responded. the fire was contained around 2:00 a.m. though crews stayed on scene to monitor hot spots. >> the heat was unbelievable and it took off into the sky and obviously developed into this unfortunate occurrence.

>> pride celebrations are underway on both coasts tonight. in new york city they're taking on special significance this year. 50 years ago today a crowd at the stonewall inn took a stand for lgbtq rights. abc news reporter josh iniger has the story. >> they celebrated in the village tonight, celebrated progress, 50 years since there really was nothing to celebrate at all. >> on one level, you know, it sort of made me sad, but on another it is like how far we've come. >> progress is not guaranteed. back. >> reporter: this was the kickoff to pride weekend, itself the grand finale of an entire pride month. all of it, all of the flags and flam buoyance, all of the rights to marry or live a life, all started at the stonewall inn. >> every right and freedom they

new york this weekend but the nypd is taking no chances with strategically-placed blocker cars to protect the crowds to undercover cops within the crowds to cameras and radiation detectors above the crowds. with more than 4 million people expected to attend the pride march on sunday, cops are taking no chances as they work to keep the landmark celebration safe. in new york's greenwich village, josh iniger, "abc 7 news." a major scandal is rocking a san francisco hospital over accusations of physical and verbal abuse towards patients. the department of public health says it took place at la gunda. six patients were subjected to talks about sex and it was recorded. they also raided the pharmacy to drug the patients into keeping quiet. mayor london breed spoke about her connection to the hospital. >> my grandmother was at the

hospital for many years before she passed away in 2016. >> this behavior is not something i will tolerate. >> the six employees have been fired. two top executives have resigned, no criminal charges have been filed. this is not the first scandal to rock la gunneda honda. money from the patient gift fund was used to purchase airline tickets and expensive meals in 2010. the fund is meant to buy simple pleasures for patients. several new laws go into effect on monday, california's gas tax increases by nearly $0.06 to more than $0.60 a gallon, the highest anywhere in the nation by the way. anyone purchasing ammunition will be required to undergo and instant background check to search for felony convictions and companies must disclose where customers are interacting with bots or a person online.
