town so we can warm up a little bit. it is 57 right now in vallejo. 58, hayward. 55, are cooler compared to 24 hours ago, about seven degrees cooler, but by this afternoon, say about noon time we will be in the 70s to near 80 in our east bay valley. still the 60s at the coast, and pride weekend celebrations looking fantastic with numbers in the mid 60s today. but the low clouds, the fog and even the high clouds throughout the afternoon today and tonight. then we will talk about the week ahead coming up. chris. >> lisa, thank you. happening now, volunteers are installing the annual pink triangle atop twin peaks in san francisco. the pink triangle was once a symbol of hate used by the nazis to identify homosexuals. it is now a symbol of gay rights. it stretches 200 feet across and can be seen for 20 miles. >> so that's what the whole event is about, is remembering the hatred of the past to help prevent it from happening again. >> the installation started at 7:00 this morning. there will be a commemoration ceremony with elected officials and the san francisco lesbian

gay:3> hpening today in san francisco, it is the 27th annual dike march starting at delores park. the march seeks to bring lgbtq people together to celebrate unity and raise consciousness about the community. the rally and performances start at 11:00 this morning. the march begins at 5:00. organizers expect tens of thousands of people to take part in today's festivities. pride celebrations kicked off last night with a 15th annual trans march in the city. thousands of people took to the streets, marching from delores park to market street. "abc 7 news" reporter luz pena was there. >> reporter: san francisco's more colorful than ever. the 15th annual trans march kicked off with rainbow flags m 6,000 people, adorning our city from delores park to market street. >> it means i get to come together with my community and see the people who support our community. >> reporter: jeannie has been a

transgender woman for three years. for her it was a dream come true. >> i came out a few yeaaf teraving anear-death ce. >>n the crowd,en faces he famils supportive, so to know that people are out there who want to love you at a familial level is nice to know. >> reporter: for andrew martinez, marching meant freedom after fleeing mexico in fear for her life. >> it is more dangerous over there, more danger because there's not much of human rights as we have here. >> reporter: alice clark and her church give our hugs and told many they were hugged. >> people who come for a hug say thank you. thank you so much. and the hugs go on for a while. i think they really are more nourishing that way. >> reporter: at hamburger mary's drag queens reminded the crowd that pride for them is every day. >> this is our life. yeah, we do shows, you know, all year long. many of our entertainers are full-time performers, not just at hamburger mary's but around

the country. >> we have a list of many pride events taking place this weekend. you can check it out on our website, abc7news.com. in san francisco, luz pena, "abc 7 news." time now is 8:04. in the south bay a four-alarm fire devastated a condominium complex under construction, sending workers running for their lives. "abc 7 news" reporter amanda del castillo has the details from santa clara. >> reporter: just a few hundred feet away from massive flames and heavy dark smoke, witness video captures the intensity behind friday's four-alarm fire. >> i will say it not take a minute to spread the fire very quick. >> reporter: his business took a hit. his windows cracked, right across the street from the construction site. plastic parts on one car parked nearby also appeared melted, and more. what would have been the anantara villas with a mix of 58 affordable and market rate condos, consumed by fire damage.

one worker at the sn their esca. others recall what happened only moments before running for their lives. >> i thought somebody had like a torch or something real close to me because it felt like a lot of heat and i got scared and i looked up and there was a fire in corner of the building. >> reporter: flames produced such intense heat surrounding structures started to smoke. ten homes evacuated. some residents even grabbed garden hoses to keep the fire at a distance. others did what they could to alert neighbors. >> this location, it is squeezed in here pretty tight and there's a lot of residential property here with older residents. they were knocking on doors, getting people out. >> reporter: three dozen firefighters were on hand. atf investigators also responded. the fire was contained around 2:00 p.m., though crews stayed on scene to monitor hot spots. >> the heat was unbelievable, and then it just took off into the sky and obviously developed into this unfortunate occurrence. >> reporter: at one point a person of interest was detained by santa clara police for questioning, but we learned that

person has since been released. now santa clara police tell me that until santa clara fire says that this is a safe scene no investigators have been able to access the site. so we'll have to wait for that. for now the cause of the fire is still under investigation. i'm reporting in santa clara, ayman au del castillo, "abc 7 news." legend usa, the developer, sent us this statement saying, quote, we will work with local authorities and related companies to conduct a thorough review of what happened and how to effectively prevent any such instances from happening in the future. we sent an alert about the fire at 11:24 a.m. yesterday through the "abc 7 news" app. it is one way the stay on top of breaking news as it happens. be sure to enable push alerts. former vice president joe biden is in the bay area this weekend for fund raisin. today he will be down in democr debate and the confrontational moment between biden and senator kamala harris o details.

>> reporter: vice president joe biden seemed to put the past 24 hours behind him as he arrived to this sea cliff home friday night to kick off a weekend of high-dollar fundraising. >> vice president biden, do you have regrets about the debate last night? >> reporter: no luck getting an answer. earlier at an event with jesse jackson the former vp seemed to be looking for a do over. >> before i start i would like to say something about the debate we had last night. he went on to reference this moment when california senator kamala harris confronted biden over his comments about working with segregationists in congress. >> there was a little girl in california who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bussed to school every day, and that little girl was me. >> i did not oppose bussing in america. what i opposed is bussing ordered by the department of education. that's what i opposed. >> reporter: the morning after

he sought to clarify. >> we all know that 30 seconds to 60 seconds on a campaign debate exchange can't do justice to a lifetime committed to civil rights. >> reporter: but in california where biden leads among democratic voters, some supporters may now be second guessing. tom mcinerney, a long-time democratic donor from the bay area says he is pulling back his support for biden and warns others may do the same. now, the reason he said he is pulling back his support is because of biden's support of the hyde amendment and comments he made about working with segregationists. as far as this visit it is biden's first visit to california since launching his campaign. he has a fundraising event in los altos but no public campaign events. in belvedere, liz kreutz, "abc 7 news." >> kamala harris is expected in san francisco for a private fundraiser. she then will participate in the right now 8:08 on this saturday morning. meteorologist lisa argen keeping an eye on the accuweather

good morning, everyone. time right now is 8:12, and we're taking a live look outside from our pier 39 camera. you can see some of the sea lions out there this morning. temperatures currently in the 50s in the city. how warm will it get? lisa will have the full accuweather forecast coming up. pride celebrations are underway across the country but in new york city they are taking on a special significance. 50 years ago a crowd at the stonewall inn ata the rights of the lgbtqgbtqgbtqq community. josh einiger has the story. >> reporter: they celebrated in the village, celebrated progress. 50 years since there was nothing

to celebrate at all. >> on one level it sort of made me sad, but on another it is like -- how far we've come. >> progress is not guaranteed. progress is won by fighting back. >> reporter: this was the kickoff to pride weekend, itself the grand finale of an entire pride month. all of it, all of the flags and flamboyance, all of the rights to marry or just live a life, all of it started at the stonewall inn. >> every right and freedom that they have today happened because of people brave enough of our elders to make it happen here, right here in this very spot. >> 1969 on this very day -- >> reporter: stacy lentz is co-owner of the stonewall where 50 years ago christopher street looked a lot different. that's the night something called the public morals squad, part of the nypd, raided the place and set off days of protests that gave birth to a movement. >> it was just wrong, plain and simple. it was wrong. >> reporter: the night of the stonewall raid jim waters was only 9 years old.

now he's one of the police department's highest ranking chiefs, in charge of counterterrorism. and where once police officers were targeting the gay community, half a century later his cops are instead looking out. >> they are a high-value target, if you will, and so there are people that have been very vocal about not believing in what they believe and looking to do them harm, and we're here to protect them. >> reporter: there are no specific or credible threats against any of the revelry in new york this weekend but the nypd is taking no chances, with strategically-placed blocker cars to protect the crowds to undercover cops within the crowds to cameras and radiation detectors above the crowds. with more than 4 million people expected to attend the pride march on sunday, cops are taking no chances as they work to keep this landmark celebration safe. in new york's greenwich village, josh einiger, "abc 7 news." time now is 8:14. a major scandal rocked a san

francisco hospital over accusations of patient abuse. the department of public health says the physical and verbal abuse took place in two wards of laguna honda hospital in the forest hill neighborhood. they say six employees subjected 23 patients to inappropriate talk about sex and then recorded it. investigators also say they raided the pharmacy to drug the patients into keeping quiet. mayor london breed spoke with her connection to the hospital. >> my grandmother suffered from dementia, and she was at laguna honda for many years before she passed away in 2016. >> this behavior is not something we will tolerate. this behavior is not something i will tolerate. >> the six employees have been fired and two top executives have resigned. no criminal charges have been filed. now to the east bay. new developments on the canine flu outbreak in oakland. 200 infected dogs are being moved to a warehouse there. oakland animal services says the warehouse was cleaned and filled with kennels and play areas. pet food express has donated

bowls and leashes and set up an emergency donation fund to help out with the cost. the dogs will be quarantined there for between four and six weeks. several new laws go into effect on monday. clifornia's gas tax goes up by nearly six cents to more than $0.60 a gallon. that's the highest in the nation. anyone purchasing ammunition will be required to undergo an instant background check to search for felony convictions, and companies must now disclose whether customers are interacting with bots in online chats or actual humans. that's a few of the changes. the see the rest head over to our website, abc7news.com. in the east bay after a 2 1/2 year delay the new embarcadero bridge in oakland is finally open to the public. the project was put in place in 2015 to retrofit the bridge for earthquakes. now the bridge meets all seismic safety standards and is taller with more sidewalk space. the bridge links jack london square and the brooklyn basin and it is part of the san francisco bay trail. let's turn to weather now

and the bay area forecast with our meteorologist lisa argen. hi, lisa. >> chris, good morning to you have. we have low clouds and fog making for pretty pictures around the bay, and it will pull back to the shoreline and sort of sit there again tonight before it pushes back across the bay. here is a look at emeryville. nice and sunny where numbers are climbing in our east bay valleys already, but 53 in san francisco. 59, oakland. 54, redwood city. some clouds on the peninsula. 58 in san jose. mid 50s half moon bay and morgan hill. we had upper 40s earlier and further out into the bay you can see the clouds there. very patchy in nature, but it is going to be a nice afternoon out there, especially inland where numbers are coming up just a few degrees. 53, santa rosa. we had all upper 40s in the past few hours so we gained a couple of degrees and low 60s for concord. livermore at 57. well, in squaw it will be in the 60s and we have four lifts open. so they said they were staying open until the 4th and it looks like it with a little bit of

snow out there. winds will be about 20 miles per hour. a great day in the mountains. average highs in south lake should be in the low 70s today. mild to warm for pride weekend. minor ups and downs throughout the week ahead. looking at some pretty good weather for the 4th of july. highs today across the state pretty hot. typical. palm springs, 105. 66, monterey. 88, sacramento. a few clouds along the north coast but those too will clear. as we look at santa cruz right now, a beautiful afternoon on tap with 73 degrees there. 65, half moon bay. and your typical sea breeze with low 60s, ocean beach and bodega bay. today and tomorrow similar in san francisco, mid 60s, plenty of sun with patchy fog in the morning. about 67 tomorrow, and waking up to numbers in the 50s. really ideal for everything happening. pleasanton, 72 at noon time, and then 3:00 in the upper 70s. so it gets awfully hot out here. should be a beautiful afternoon for the fair at 75, 6:00 at

night, very comfortable, and getting cool at 9:00 in the low 60s. low 70s today in oakland. 77 in san rafael, so some of the numbers are shy of average. mid 70s, san mateo. 75, palo alto, but the mid 80s returning for concord and livermore. 85, morgan hill. a few high clouds around and very similar for your sunday. your accuweather seven-day forecast, 60s, coast. mid 70s around the bay. by monday we will see the temperatures coming down a few degrees, rebounding on tuesday and another dip on wednesday. low clouds and fog with us each day, and on the 4th temperatures will be in the upper 80s, so we will certainly have the sea breeze and the fog, which the fireworks will be, you know, the typical challenge here at the embarcadero. but by friday we will see numbers come up a bit, and it looks like next weekend could be warm. download the accuweather app for the details and you will stay up to date because this is what we

expect this time of year, but into next weekend could be back to some warmth. >> lisa argenringing back the heat. thanks, lisa. appreciate it. . as the bay area celebrates pride we've been digging through our archives and found an amazing series of story that give you a glimpse of gay life here in san francisco 43 years ago. it talks about relationships and how marriage was debated in the community decades before same sex marriage became legal. >> you are watching pictures of a religious ceremony sanctifying a homosexual relationship. it was performed at st. idin's episcopal church in san francisco. it is the closest two people of the same sex can get to legal marriage. by taking these values they're making a solid commitment to each other. they are making public their homosexuality, their love for each other and their determineation to share their lives. >> but i think most gay people do not believe in the institution of marriage except as an encumbering thing because we have a view that our

in san francisco it's been more than a month since the board of sups unanimously passed the ban on cashless stores so

where do things stand today? our "7 on your side" finney has been keeping track. >> reporter: amazon go is opening stores in san francisco and getting rave reviews, even if the shopping experience feels to some as if it should be illegal. >> i felt weird. i felt like i was stealing from amazon. >> reporter: the board of supervisors passed and the mayor signed a brick and mortar cashless ban more than a month ago but gave businesses 90 days to comply. with 35 days now passed, no one seems in a hurry to implement the change. sweet green before the ban. sweet green after. amazon go before the ban. amazon go after. no change in san francisco, although cash is now accepted in a new york city amazon go location. there is still plenty of time to implement, but how is this going to work out? darin archer is with elastic path, a software company focusing on ecommerce. >> the research we saw was that most folks are looking f that

check out-less payment. the vast majority, three-quarters, almost three-quarters. in that it is not so much that they want cashless, theyorter:s version of the drive-up window? >> i think so. and, in fact, 72% on our survey said they wanted curb side pickup. >> reporter: darin says because the one is for convenience and not cashless, the san francisco model of providing both will work. >> reporter: can you put those two together? >> i really think so. i mean i think that we not only need to put together, but i also would challenge all of us in the industry and all of the retailers and brands to put it together in such a way that it still goes back to the first goal. >> reporter: that goal, convenience. and the law does carve out a exceptions for pop-ups and food trucks. supervisor vallie brown introduced the legislation and saw it through to passage. she says professionals like attorneys don't have to accept

fo a high-steaakes meeting. >> i look forward to working with you. as know we've had an excellent relationship. >> reporter: with trade talks stalled and a threat of new tariffs on the table, the presidents were looking to make a deal. later mr. trump said the two sides declared a truce for now. >> for at least the time being we're not going to be lifting tariffs. >> reporter: president trump making news on twitter, announcing he would like to meet kim jong-un at the dmz while visiting south korea on sunday. i asked the president about that during his meeting with the saudi crown prince. >> all i did was put out a feeler if he would like to meet. he sent me a very beautiful birthday card. >> reporter: the president said if a meeting with kim happened it could be brief, even just two minutes. >> very receptive. he responded and so we'll see. >> reporter: north korea called the president's offer, quote, a very interesting suggestion. and the president at his press conference, asked about his meeting with russian president vladimir putin. >> i thought it was really a tremendous discussion. i think they would like to do

trade with the united states, and they have great product. >> reporter: he was also asked whether he spoke to the saudi crown prince about the murder of journalist khashoggi dr. >> they've taken it very, very seriously and they will continue to. >> reporter: karen travers, abc news, traveling with the president in osaka, japan. san jose congresswoman lack rin is vowing to secure our elections. she says it is in response to the president refusing to hold russia accountable. >> house democrats will continue to honor the oath we take to defend america's security against all threats, both foreign and domestic. the safe act represents an urgent, critical step to securing our election infrastructure and protecting the integrity of the ballot and our democracy. >> in the democratic weekly address the congress woman talks about the safe act, which stands for securing america's federal elections. house democrats passed the bill, which would upgrade the security of voting systems across the

country. that includes replacing outdated voting machines and requiring paper ballot voting. happening today, oregon senate republicans plan to return to work after a nine-day walkout. republicans shut down the oregon senate because they wanted to block a climate change bill. the head of the senate republicans says they will be back to work today because lawmakers have an obligation to pass budget bills. he believes they can complete that work by tomorrow night's deadline. a unique bakery is serving up the best treats for man's best friend and it has become a go-to spot for a doggone good ndmeston becau i no he's just full of love to give. >> it is one of his favorite places in the city to go. he drags us down the sidewalk. he knows where he's going. >> we specialize in dog cookies, dog cakes and of course we have tons of toys and fun things, things that you probably won't see in other stores. dog wine, dog beer.

we have made cakes for dogs, wedding, bark-mitzvah cake. if you can think of it we will trike to make it. we have dog tv, a dog-specific channel for dogs to of what. we have a dog lounge downstairs, fun bean bag chairs for the dogs to sit on. >> so luna is a rescue dog. i absolutely love her. she's my favorite thing in the world. means more to me than me. >> this is my first baby. >> he brings me happiness and support when i need it. >> we have two owners, lenny and teresa bazemore and they frequented a different dog bakery in philadelphia and they just loved it. they loved the idea of having their own dog bakery, but they also wanted to make it a destination. so not just a place where you shop, but a place where you can come hang out and play with your dog, too. >> i have never seen something like this before. >> usually when people come in, they are very surprised. >> i actually thought it was a real bakery that, like, pets could be in when i first moved

here. >> our dog cookies are really simple in their makeup. everything is 100% human grade. >> it is not bad. need a glass of milk with it for sure. >> we do it on purpose so it will not upset any dog tummies. most are water, flour, margarine, honey. >> and he loves food and treats and anything he can get. >> we do have green-free options with chickpea flour in them and then we have some that have peanut butter or dog-safe chocolate called carob. >> we always get him a treat when we're here and they're always giving out samples. can you do paw? good job. >> everything is freshly made by a local baker right here. the dogs love everything that we make. philadelphia-themed dog cookies, so we do all of the sports teams. we do the love statue. >> definitely would get my dog a dog cake. it is a lot like a human cake but without added sugars. >> people like to buy their dogs

nice with temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. it could be much warmer than that. in fact, numbers a bit below average, but throughout the afternoon you will need the sun block and getting a bit on the warm side. but pretty nice nonetheless. as we look at the sierra nevada, would you believe that we do have some lifts open at squaw? in fact, four lifts open, 10:00 to 2:00 today. temperature there in the low 60s. south lake should be in the low 70s. just gorgeous there. as we look at live doppler 7, the fog is getting pushed further to the west and it will be with us throughout the overnight hours, and we're going to do the same thing throughout not only tomorrow but for the week ahead. this area of low pressure is beginning to lose its influence. it was keeping us cool for the week and we are looking at numbers still a little below average, but nonetheless warming up in our inland valleys. here is a look at walnut creek. we can see the sunshine. 53, downtown. upper 50s, oakland, redwood city
