pitcher tyler skaggs found dead in his hotel room. >> medics respond, medical emergency -- >> reporter: skaggs was in dallas, his team going up against the texas rangers. he had just pitched saturday night but police were called around 2:00 to his hotel. the pitcher unresponsive. >> it's going to be a possible death investigation. >> reporter: skaggs pronounced dead at the scene. he leaves behind a wife he married just seven months ago. the angels organization releasing a statement saying, tyler has and always will be an important part of the angels family. our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, carli, and his entire family during this devastating time. support now pouring in from his rivals. >> hey, wasn't a guy that i enjoyed having to go up against. obviously he gave all the teams i coached fits. just awful to think that that's not going to be around anymore. >> reporter: angels/rangers game has been canceled. police say they do not suspect any foul play. eva pilgrim, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to eva.

and lots of love to that team, their fans, and his family. also from california, a poison scare at a facebook mail facility. it's located near the facebook headquarters and was evacuated yesterday as a precaution. a routine check found mail possibly containing the nerve agent sarin, but additional test did not confirm it's presence. so authorities are still working to identify that substance. they say there were no injuries. the cockpit voice recorder from the small plane that crashed near dallas over the weekend is now being analyzed by federal investigators. the plane slammed into an airport hangar and burst into flames. it was not required to have a flight data recorder. all ten people on board, eight passengers, and two crew members were killed. among the victims was a family of four, two teenagers, their mother, and stepfather. immigration officials are investigating a secret facebook group for border patrol agents targeting members of congress and joking about the deaths of migrants. >> the posts allegedly written by agents and other border employees questioned the

authenticity of this photo showing a migrant father and his daughter, who drowned last week in the rio grande. they include sexually explicit doctored images of representative alexandria ocasio-cortez, who arrived at the border with her colleagues. >> the post came to light as president trump signed a $4.6 billion aid package to cope with the influx of central american migrants to the southern border. he also revived his warning to launch sweeping raids deporting undocumented immigrants across the country. abc's trevor ault has more. >> reporter: president trump renewing his threat saying after the fourth of july, immigrations and customs enforcement agents will begin deporting thousands of undocumented immigrants. >> they're going back to their countries. they go back home. i.c.e. is going to be apprehending them and bringing them back. >> reporter: the president had previously said the raids would result in the removal of quote millions of illegal aliens, though an administrative official later said 2,040 people have been identified for expedited removal.

but it was a call from speaker of the house nancy pelosi that reportedly got the president to institute a two-week delay. >> children are scared. you're scaring the children of america. >> reporter: but with congress now on a holiday recess, a legislative solution is almost certainly not happening. instead, members of the congressional hispanic caucus visiting a detention facility in el paso which they describe as dehumanizing. >> we need a system that works, that is humane, and that is compassionate, and that keeps families together. >> reporter: we're also hearing from a 12-year-old migrant child who herself spent a dozen days in a detention facility. in a video recorded by her attorney, she says children slept on the floor and were given little food, adding, "some children were sick. there they said they'd take them to hospitals but they wouldn't take them." those members of congress who visited the el paso detention facility said they were told

some of the officers weren't giving water to some of the women detained there, instead telling them to drink out of the toilets. janai, kenneth? >> our thanks to trevor there. that migrant father and child whose heartbreaking image spread across the world have been laid to rest. >> private services were held in el salvador for 25-year-old oscar martinez and daughter valeriya. who was just shy of her 2nd birthday when they were swept away in the rio grande. the president of el salvador is taking responsibility saying, quote, they fled our country, it is our fault. meanwhile, acting homeland security chief kevin mcaleenan wrapped up a two-day trip to el salvador where he met with officials to talk about security and migration. he attended the first meeting with the bilateral migration task force before heading to honduras for similar discussions with that country's president. accused serial sex abuser and former university of southern california gynecologist george tyndall has pleaded not guilty to 29 felony counts. anges.

he faces 53 ars in prison if convicted. nearly 400 women claim he sexually abused them at the school's student health center. listeria worries have prompted a vegetable recall. the notice affects butter nut squash, cauliflower, zucchini, and some vegetable bowls distributed by growing express. most of the products have best if used by dates by june 26th to 29th. the recall is voluntary. listeria can be fatal to people with weak immune systems. no illnesses have been reported. a california toddler's online shopping game is apparently on point. >> a san diego mom was looking at couches on her amazon app. her 2-year-old asked for the phone, so mom handed it over. a few days later, she received an alert saying her $430 couch had shipped. so after some confusion she put two and two together and realized her toddler placed that order. do you think the kid checked the reviews? >> you know, that one-click button on amazon that can get you.

michigan police have michigan police have arrested this man in a case of water rage. that video shows him ramming his boat into a larger vessel on a lake near detroit. he faces a number of charges including operating a vessel while intoxicated. the two people on the other boat are okay, but look at that, how dangerous that could have been. >> alcohol was involved? >> yeah, right? >> did you hear my inflection? >> surprised? turning now to the stunning revelations from former vice president joe biden's younger son. >> hunter biden has opened up to "the new yorker" magazine about tumultuous personal life, including his struggles with drug abuse. here's abc's linsey davis. >> reporter: in the incredibly candid interview with the "new

yorker," 49-year-old hunter biden lays bare his struggle with drugs and alcohol, recounting this moment at his father's rally in philadelphia back in may. >> the biden family is ready, and we will do this as we always have, as a family. >> reporter: hunter biden noticeably absent that day. telling "the new yorker" "it's heartbreaking for me, it's killing me and it's killing him. dad says be here, mom says be here, at what cost?" hunter said he skipped the rally because he'd become the subject of negative stories. now in wrenching detail he opens up about his spiral into addiction, including at least five trips to rehab. there's addiction in every family, he says. i was in that darkness, i was in that tunnel, it's a never-ending tunnel, you don't get rid of it, you figure out how to deal with it. he shares multiple harrowing experiences, from trying to smoke crack by stuffing it into a cigarette, to getting discharged from the naval reserves after testing positive for cocaine. to having a gun pointed at his head while trying to buy drugs in a homeless encampment.

and he says he relapsed after the 2015 death of his older brother beau. soon after he also struck up a brief romantic relationship with beau's widow. then in may hunter biden proposed to another woman after knowing her for just one week. >> is hunter getting married? >> yes. >> reporter: and then there's the matter of hunter biden's business dealings, questions about whether he leveraged his father's name to win business in ukraine and china where hunter accompanied his father on an official trip in 2013. president trump is calling for an investigation. >> 100% it's a disgrace. >> reporter: there has been no evidence joe biden used his influence to help his son. hunter says he and his dad only spoke once about ukraine. "dad said, i hope you know what you're doing." and i said, "i do." hunter biden keenly aware he could become a liability in his

father's campaign and this seems to be an attempt to try to get ahead of all of that. critics are asking questions about hunter and his business ties. linsey davis, abc news, new york. >> our thanks to linsey. now to a major milestone for the u.s. economy, breaking a record for the longest expansion in history. >> economic expansion has continued for more than ten years and is now in its 121st month. some economists say the growth won't last, expect a mild recession next year. but there's still hope. australia, for example, hasn't had a recession in 27 years. we have a health alert about the dangers of secondhand drinking. >> yeah, so a new study finds that it's just as harmful as secondhand smoke. every year 53 million americans, 1 in 5 adults, are negatively impacted by someone else's drinking. researchers say that women were more likely to report financial and family problems, while men were more likely to report damaged property, vandalism, and physical aggression. flushing contact lenses down the toilet or drain is bad for the environment. a new survey finds about 20% of people who use contact lenses

dispose of them that way. but when the contacts interact with waste water treatment plants, they form micro plastics that become ocean pollution. researchers urge users to consider recycling options. i would have never thought about that. >> it makes sense when you think about it. they could really build up there. >> yeah. >> you mentioned about the micro plastics that pose a threat there. small plastic pieces, they're able to move quite freely throughout the ecosystem, apparently. and so, again, what we flush, what we put into the system there, could really clog it up. >> got to think about old mother earth. a new study finds that there are health benefits for women with more junk in the trunk. >> run that back? >> junk in the trunk. >> so-called apple-shaped women who carry their body fat around waist are up to three times more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke. that's even if they're slim. pear-shaped women cut their risk by almost half.

protection is investigating what it calls disturbing and completely inappropriate posts allegedly made by border patrol agents on social media. propublica published the vulgar and threatening posts after the nonprofit found a secret group on facebook allegedly comprised of roughly 9,500 current and former border patrol agents. one threat about an image that sparked national outrage of a drowned salvadoran and his young daughter, one comment said the photo had been edited because the bodies appeared too clean. other posts include graphic images suggesting sexual and physical violence against members of congress. one member encouraging agents to throw a burrito at congresswoman veronica escobar and alexandria ocasio-cortez, part of a delegation touring two texas cbp facilities. ocasio-cortez was just asked about the posts. >> in that last facility, i was not safe from the officers in that facility. >> reporter: the border patrol's chief of operations is defending his agency, but not the comments.

lueck vanished june 17th after a lyft driver took her from salt lake city's airport to meet someone in a park. police say cell phone information put her in that park with the 31-year-old suspect. he's facing aggravated murder and other charges. police don't have a motive. they aren't sure how lueck and the suspect knew each other. authorities in texas are looking into the mystery death of los angeles angels pitcher tyler skaggs. angels fans have created a memorial honoring skaggs in front of the angel stadium in anaheim. the 27-year-old was found dead in a dallas hotel room yesterday. the team is in texas to play the rangers. a seemingly healthy skaggs was on the mound last saturday and he was scheduled to pitch on thursday. >> it's really saddening. you know. he's so young. saw him pitch the other day. he was our best pitcher right now. it's really sad to see him go, especially for his family and friends. >> police say no foul play is suspected in skaggs' death. the "l.a. times" reports police do not suspect he took his own life.
