police circle the suspected shooter with gun. pointing, disappears out of frame and then someone falls and people start running. top of your screen, second person with gun. stops in front of elevator, fires multiple shots. more than a dozen people run for cover. two teenage boys shot, expected to recove. two other people suffered injuries. two suspects not yet found, still sorting through massive evidence. you saw people run away, what you didn't see was two army recruiters running toward the victims. this afternoon those men were recognized for their efforts. lyanne melendez with a story. >> reporter: civilian aid to the secretary to the army recognizes your efforts, can only mean

you've shown the qualities of a leader. when shots were fired in tanforan mall, recruiters ran out of this recruitment center towards one of the victims. isaiah locklear took off shirt to apply pressure to gunshot wound and helped carry him on the stretcher. >> rolled him over, noticed gunshot wound through the stomach, out the back. >> reporter: michael morell was asked to help a second victim shot in the leg. >> applied pressure. thankfully the police department was quick to respond. >> reporter: both said used military training to assist the victims. second nature to them. third person inside the recruitment office is marrial young, enlisted from daly city. instructed to hide but later came out and used emt training to help. >> started to see police department arrive, knew the

coast guard came to the rescue of two teenage sailors whose boat started taking on water in the bay yesterday. because of heavy winds, couldn't get too close to the sail boat, so a rescue swimmer jumped in. pulled off the boat one by one and managed to recover the boat after. part of building a better bay area involves exploring more ways to protect yourself, family and belongings. as technology continues to advance, criminals are doing the same. san jose police department is warning people of high tech car burglary, amanda del castillo has details. >> reporter: we've heard the warnings and read the signs. prevent break-ins, keep valuables out of sight. but criminals are getting crafty, seeking out what is tucked away in trunk.
