driving drunk for at least the eighth time. what needs to change to keep dui offenders off our roads? a flight instructor is dead, a student pilot injured after a helicopter crash. i'm amanda del castillo in palo alto. a local restaurant owner says she was targeted. "abc7 news" starts right now. >> now, news to build a better bay area. from abc 7. a dui driver in the bay area arrested, convicted and arrested again, over and over. >> new at 11:00, kate larson wanted to find out how this could happen. >> the d.a. says this guy is a menace. >> reporter: absolutely, dan and ama. orlando is a repeat offender here in san mateo county, as well as san francisco and alameda counties, which have all prosecuted him and sent him to prison for drunk driving.

for at least the eighth time, 43-year-old orlando delleon was arrested for drunk driving. on monday, at 10:00 in the morning, he was pulled over here in south san francisco for driving more than 60 miles per hour in a 40 zone, with a suspended license. police say he had an open container of beer in his car. >> rules mean nothing to him and he's endangering every citizen on the road. >> reporter: the district attorney handed me this court document for a felony dui case stemming from another traffic spot in february. >> his blood-alcohol was 0.27. if something doesn't change, he will kill somebody. >> we know that license suspension does not work. >> reporter: mary clark's son was killed by a re-pete dui offender in 2001 in santa clara county. soon after they started the bay

4:00 p.m. north of highway 101 overpass. the sheriff's office is investigating the death as a possible suicide. >> everyone is going to assume that a person -- one of the conductors may have mentioned it could have been someone that jumped in front of the train. >> three of the last five deaths involving smart trains have been ruled suicides. a man who admitted to a double murder that baffled investigators was sentenced today in sonoma county. >> the man who confessed to killing a young people on the beach in 2004 was sentenced today. shawn michael was sentenced to two life terms without parole. >> he won't see the light of day. flames brought down a building in gilroy.
