voted yesterday to make the temporary pilot program to make the fleet permanent. the examiner says the program which started last october was largely successful. the pilot program only allowed two companies, skip and scoot. this time around there could be many others. but they'll be taking on stricter requirements. with this vote, the sfmta will also be able to draw the map of where the scooter companies can operate. previously the companies drew their own mans which led to scooters being concentrated in the wealthier downtown areas. in the studio, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. it's now 4:30. if you're just waking up, good morning. a quick update on weather and traffic. we start with mike. >> thank you, reggie. let's take a look at the winds out there. we have a little delta breeze, double digits there, also in concord. a lighter breeze along the bay and the coast. the cloud cover concentrated mainly around the bay from the san mateo bridge northward and up into napa valley.

we'll have quicker is sunshine today. warm to hot temperatures away from the coast. 55 to 60 with increasing clouds through 7:00. look at this. sunny just about everywhere. a few lingering clouds in san francisco. that's why you're in the 60s while everybody else is in the 70s. still a little warm at 7:00. how about we get another check of that morning commute with alexis? >> good morning, mike. we had drops, mists, drizzle yesterday pretty much the entire morning on the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. a little different start than we had 24 hours ago. still very light volumes on westbound 580 on the approach as well. that's basically how the entire area looks this morning. 16 minutes for your drive time. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze. southbound 101 san francisco to sfo in the green at nine

minutes. mini storage will notify customers who had their units and possessions destroyed by this t 4 and interstate 680 yesterday afternoon. nbc 7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the stories. >> reporter: you can see the fire racing through 50 units in a matter of minutes. >> we had customers calling in seeing if their stuff is affected. we had one come in and hers is completely gone. she's devastated. >> reporter: the fire started as a brush fire behind the storage center near a homeless encampment. the wind-driven fire jumped from near highway 4 to the storage unit and across the freeway toward 680 south. witnesses called it a wall of flames. >> all across the side, it was all smoke everywhere. it was definitely a pretty good fire. they asked me to clear area and i had to leave.

clouds are filling in a little bit. a late arriving cloud deck bringing mist to the coast. cool this morning. it's going to be hot, especially coming from the inland neighborhoods on mass transit. let's take a look temperatures,. escaping the 60s by 10:00, into the 70s. escaping the 80s this afternoon into the 90s under a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky. peninsula mid to upper 70s most of the afternoon. we'll spike around 80 at 3:00 and down in the south bay, we'll reach the 70s by 11:00, we'll hang out in the low to mid 80s all afternoon and into the early evening hours. we'll take a look at slight cooling trend and the weekend forecast. first let's bring in alexis. how is it going outside? >> it's going great. no major issues on the road right now. we're hoping we can keep it that way. nice light volumes as you would hope at 4:38 in the morning.

the unusual pattern we've been dealing with most of the summer, we've been blessed with really clean air. now we'll continue. only moderate on the central bay and coast tomorrow. that's as bad as the air quality gets, and that's finement let's take a look at what's going on around the state today. real heat in palm springs, 108. 97 in fresno. mid to upper 90s through the central valley. 30 degrees warmer than monterey. even with sunshine late this afternoon, 67. 81 in los angeles. low to mid 80s in the high country. dropping into the low 80s friday with breezy conditions. 80 in tahoe on saturday, 80 on sunday. john paul stevens died in florida of complications from the stroke. stephens was the third longest serving supreme court justice in history. he was considered a moderate when he was appointed to the court in 1975.

by the time he retired in 2010, he was the court's leading liberal. stevens was 99 years old. happening today, the san francisco planning commission will consider making the site of a former flower nursery a historical landmark. sky 7 shows the old greenhouses at gary bali nursery in the city's portola neighborhood. they haven't been used in more than 25 years, but the neighbors there say they're not ready to see it torn down. a developer did buy the site in 2017 for $7.5 million. it has plans for a 63-unit development. >> our plan is to do housing which is much needed, 20% affordable and create a dedicated lot that will contribute to the public. >> it's definitely a david and goliath battle. >> the neighbors say their vision is to restore these greenhouses and make it a

thursday we've got temperatures, you can see a little cooler, inland and 60s and 70s around the bay. notice, by the time we get to friday, there's only a 90 in clear lake, that's it for the heat. the rest of us in the 60s and 70s and 80s inland. saturday, pretty much the same temperature. so enjoy a little bit of a relief, but starting sunday, warmer weather is on the way. i'll show you that coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. first let's get back to alexis and find out about the morning commute. still looking good to kick things off. a little lineup in the cash lanes, especially on the left side of the bay bridge toll plaza. looks like the right side has tlind out as they open a few more booths. car pool lanes should be open. we should have 25, 30 minutes before they turn on the metering lights. mass transit looking good.
