good morning, everyone. it is sunday july 21st. we're going to start with a quick look at the weather. here is our meteorologist. >> good morning. we're starting with a large dose of clouds and marine layer up to 2,000 feet. certainly have mist and drizzle. you might need wipers out there. visibility 4 miles. 50s to 60s still at the bay, south wind. we will look for a warm-up today despite the cooler start. anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees cooler. inland 90, 80 around the bay. the coast stays cool in the 60s and that will be the trend.

we'll keep it cool at the coast and warm to the hot. >> thanks, lisa. developing news in concord with a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run. now police are searching for a pickup truckdriver. investigators say the biker was trying to pass toyota prius. the two collided around 12:30 this morning and the biker was thrown off the motorcycle. police say a pickup driver then ran over the biker and did not stop. the biker died at the scene. the driver of the prius is cooperating with police. neighbors in mountain view are calling for change after a woman was attacked while working out in creekside park. the suspect has been arrested. this is the second attack in that park this year. abc 7 news reporter reporter rep story. >> reporter: most common, bikes, people working out. at 9:42 a.m., a woman's plea for help was heard loud and clear. >> came up behind her, wrapped

attempted to lift her up. fortunately her instincts kicked in. she beganic canning and screaming which alerted passersby. the man dropped her and left. >> the suspect, sergio martinez, mountain view police detained him after they reported him prowling around the neighborhood. >> detectives were able to determine the individual who had been detained for prowling was actually the same suspect in the attack in the park. >> i walk to work in the morning at 6:30 and i have to be very aware. >> february 25th, a woman was attacked. >> a ja, a french national staying in the area viciously attacked at to make some changes. >> over the years, it's becoming less safe unfortunately. right here, make it more secure

area, you know. >> martinez is facing charges of rape, attempted kidnapping and false imprisonment. what's concerning to police, there might be other victims onout there and asked anyone with information to come forward. in mountain view, luz pena, abc 7 news. in the east bay firefighters are battling a wildfire on mount diab diablo. crews working overpass to put out the flames. the picture, can you see flames. a lot of smoke. this is what the agency tweeted. it was taken yesterday. late last night the fire on summit road had burned about four acres. it's been eight months since the campfire devastated paradise. today the town's public swimming pool is set to reopen for the first time since that fire. the crews finished painting last week. it hasn't been opened since the campfire killed 85 people andto. imsomewherers can now lift their

spirits by taking a dip in more than 2,000 gallons of water. >> people lost their private pools in their homes. the fact health clubs had been destroyed, this is the only swi >> new numbers show paradise's population has plunged by 90%. about 2,000 people currently live in paradise. that's down from 27,000 before the fire. we are taking a live look at sfo. we get a peek at a newly renovated terminal at the airport. part one of three-phase project to make terminal one the envy of terminals around the world. as nbc news anchor eric thomas tells us, it's named after a trail blazing san francisco politician whose career was tragically cut short. >> how is everyone doing? >> it was fitting abc 7's own vic lee mc'd the preview of harvey milk terminal.

he's one of the only reporters still active when milk joined san francisco board of supervisors back in the 1970s. >> i do remember vividly the euphoria, the excitement the day he was elected to the board. the first openly gay politician elected in california. >> that euphoria was cut shut when he was assassinated in 1998. it wasn't a day of sorrow. it was more of a celebration. the new terminal will open soon with nine gates for southwest and jet blue but that's just the start. >> i know we have three phases in this project for terminal one. we have completed phase one. >> when completed in 2023, the new terminal will feature a total of 25 gates, new passenger loading bridges and new concessions. total cost $2.4 billion

>> that was eric thomas reporting. nine gates opened tuesday for southwest and jetblue customers. as part of abc 7's continuing commitment to building a better bay area and the need to combat homelessness, abc 7 news reporter galesian introduces us to a 7-year-old making care packages for the homeless. she sits down and asks one question, how can i help. >> would you like a care package today? how is you guys day going? >> to say patel is compassionate would be an understatement. he started homeless benefactors coalition. on weekends he spends time with the homeless. today he's in san francisco's tenderloin district passing out hygiene kits and food. >> i see them as true people. some people might see them as scary because they might have

mental issues but i take them as regular people. >> he had a lengthy conversation with frank who has been oemless for a decade. the time the teen took time to talk brought tears to his eyes. >> it's nice. it hurts a little but i'll take what i can get. >> why does it hurt a little? >> because he's a kid and i'm a grown man. >> it started here in the tenderloin. he used to come here as a child to visit his grandparents who owned this hotel. this essentially is his communi community. >> so my son wants to come here and work the same community i think is amazing. i think for me it feels good. >> this his first time volunteering withre it's not something i'm used to, not something i generally do but it's been a great experience. >> it's very nice the way he's

it's 11 minutes after 5:00 this morning. we're taking a live look at the golden gate bridge. not too many people out, light traffic, a little misty, foggy, but warm-up is on the way. tensioners rising between iran and western countries. new videos shows revolutionary guard shows them seizing a tanker for violations.

nbc anchor elizabeth hur has more on the u.s. and uk's response. dramatic videos when a iranian commander seized a british oil tanker. masked troops dropping from a helicopter as the ship traveled to strait of hormuz. they claim it violated international maritime laws hitting a fishing boat and failing to respond to that crew's calls. the 23 crew members on board could be held until iranians complete their investigation into the collision. the british government called actions dangerous and illegal. >> we spent a long time this afternoon discussing how we could guarantee safety of international shipping. >> president trump deployed more troops to the middle east because of iran's threat. >> we've seen no indication iranians are fundally changing their nation. >> tensions have been growing

shot. >> nothing to indicate their deaths are linked to any other active and ongoing investigations in that area of the province. >> police say it is too soon to tell whether this couple was targeted. new details are emerging this morning after a high-speed police chase in los angeles. some of the suspects are actually from the bay area. friday's chase reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour on freeways and streets, through l.a.'s san fernando valley. lapd believes the three men inside the car had been breaking into vehicles. officers say they are seeing more and more suspects tied to the bay area. >> we have crews comprised of gang members from the greater oakland and san francisco areas that are regularly visiting los angeles for a particular purpose of committing burglary from vehicles. if you have any plans of coming to the los angeles area to commit burglary from vehicle, we will catch you. >> the lapd captured all three suspects after they drove into a

shopping mall's garage in sherman oaks. a school district in pennsylvania is facing backlash after it threatened to send children to foster care if their lunch bills weren't paid. wyoming valley west school district sent a letter to 1,000 parents, this letter. it was an effort to collect nearly $20,000 in unpaid lunch bills. so the the letter states children could be removed from their homes if their parents didn't pay up. district officials had differing opinions on this letter. >> hopefully that gets their attention. certainly did, didn't it? >> when i first read the letter, the top of my head only came off. the only thing missing was when we're going to put them in cages and send them to mexico. >> state representatives expressed concern saying the letter was callous and never should have happened. now the district admits it went too far.ngenonprerties tge bills paid.

many of americans dealing with stifling heat. it's caused outdoor activities to be canceled. >> reporter: severe storms fueled by the heat creating a new emergency. hundreds of thousands in michigan are without power while temperatures outside feel like they are in triple digits. >> i don't know if it gets any hotter than this. it's not the heat, it's the humidity that's the problem. >> in new york city still investigating the cause of a blackout this weekend, the mayor questioning how much stress the power grid can handle during this heat wave. >> the problem is we still don't have a clean answer about what happened last saturday, which is not inspiring confidence. we're keeping a close eye on con he h ed. >> along the corridor, some finding relief in water parks, same in south carolina. more than 170 million across the country enduring potentially life threatening conditions. this infrared camera showing how stay feels.

situated from the north bay to east bay. the deck has grown with mist and drizzle. things are going to change as this area of high pressure shifts once again closer towards the bay area. as that does, the heat will expand inland. we have a trough to the north and west. that will allow for steady on-shore flow. persistent low cloud deck at the coast. here is a look at the current highs. notice chicago 77 degrees. so from the upper midwest, some cooler air from canada. northeast not so lucky as well as the middle of the country where numbers will be sweltering. excessive heat warnings, northeast, washington, and also into boston. but the heat advisory for still hot temperatures but not as hot as we get towards midwest around cincinnati, north and south carolina. back home in the 50s and 60s. 60 in fremont, hayward, oakland, with a cool 52 degrees in santa rosa. a live look outside the

exploratorium camera, fog, mist, and drizzle this morning. fog deck 2 feet, shrink back to the shoreline today. we will have warmer temperatures inland, as much as 5 to 7 degrees warmer. then the heat will continue to build inland. let's take a look at the coast. 63 with cool temperatures today as we get towards san francisco. near average 67. how about 73 in oakland. walnut creek warming to the mid-80s. as we head to the delta, antioch, 90. elsewhere looking at temperatures on the comfortable side. 81 in santa rosa, 80 san rafael, continued breezy at the coast, upper 80s in concord. 90 for antioch. notice once again, 60s and 70s around the bay, slightly warmer inland. taking a look monday, mid-90s arrive for antioch, low 90s livermore. the heat continues to stay away from the bay, comfortable with 74 in richmond. 67 san francisco into tuesday.

still the dark red and pink continue into our east bay valleys while we have that on-shore flow waking up to low clouds and fog. check out what happens wednesday, one of the warmest days of the week. upper 90s inland and still looking at the 60s and 70s. maybe a little bit warmer around the bay but still quite comfortable. the accuweather seven-day forecast looking at the 60s along the shoreline with partly sunny conditions, 80 around the bay. 90 inland. so the patchy fog, warmer day away from the coast. looking at the warming trend really getting going into monday and tuesday with wednesday looking like the hottest day into thursday. still hot. even friday looking at upper 90s. download accuweather app and look at those temperatures. you asked for heat, i delivered. >> it is here. thankfully it's not as hot as some of these other states are seeing. >> that is rough but they are getting a bit of relief. >> thanks, lisa. abc's new brand localish is sharing inspiring stories in a

good morning. thanks for joining us. we are starting this half hour with a look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, kumasi. here is a look from the east hills camera, we can see the low cloud deck. sun coming up in 30 minutes. we look for a warmer day here confined to our inland valleys. right now 57 in san francisco, 59 in san jose. low 60s oakland. mount tam, a look at low clouds. numbers are cool, how about 52 santa rosa. some mist, drizzle. cooler out there in some spots. look at all the 50s in concord, livermore. as we look at the trend over the past 24 hours, anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees cooler. as we go through the afternoon, check it out, 60s and 70s by 9:00, then those warmer numbers

coming into play in our inland valleys. we'll talk about the trend and the week ahead in a few minutes. kumasi. >> thanks, lisa. new this morning tens of thousands of people in hong kong demanding an investigation into police brutality. this video from earlier today shows them marching on the street. they say police have used violent tactics against pro democracy protesters. massive protests began last month over a bill about extradition. hong kong's leader has since declared the deal dead but many want her to resign. protesters are concerned about their civil rights. president trump is stepping up for a popular rapper rapper asap rocky has been in prison in sweden for two weeks after an altercation. he says it was self-defense and he has a video to prove it. white house coordinator has more in the effort to free him. >> reporter: in an unusual telephone call pleading with an ally, prime minister of sweden, to intervene with asap rocky who

has been did he stained for two weeks. trump tweeting, he assured me he would be tweeted fairly. i assured him he's not a flight risk and would personally be liable for his jail. prosecutors investigate this fight caught on camera on the streets of stockholm. tmz obtaining this video of june 30th altercation that landed the grammy nominated artist and two back-up performers behind bars. without criminal charges the artist maintaining he acted in self-defense posting this footage on his instagram showing the moments leading up to that fight. >> we not trying to fight y'all. we not trying to go to jail. >> two men throwing headphones at the rapper's bodyguard. tonight those men under investigation but neither in custody. the rapper detention sparking outrage. the first lady and kanye west making the case to the president he should get involved. this comes with a racial firestorm after he tweeted

after the weekend edition of good morning america. the san francisco spca will cancel its public dog training group classes by the end of the summer. the 150-year-old nonprofit will continue to provide shelter animal behavioral services, which are post adoption behavior support and online programs. it will host behavior training videos on youtube. sfspca sent an e-mail stating in part, "these changes will allow us to reach our goal of making an maximum impact in the long-term cesc 5 million cats, dogs, and their guardians over the next 10 years, and we are confident that we are on the best path forward." it's becoming all too common, another chain going bankrupt. more than 1,000 chaerming charlie scores expected to close for good. michael finney tells us its deja vu all over again. >> we've been here before, and it wasn't even two years ago.
