spying. iran accuses the 17 iranian nationals of spying and meeting with cia officials. in a press conference this morning in tehran releasing documents and photos of men they say were recruited online. several already sentenced to death. this comes as new details from the seizure of that british tanker just days ago. >> stena impero, if you obey, you will be safe, over. >> reporter: a warning from iran's revolutionary guard to the british oil tanker to turn around. >> change your course to 360, 360 degrees immediately. >> reporter: but it was not the tanker crew that responded to the warning, it was a british warship trying to stop the iranian commandos from boarding the commercial tanker, the "mv. stena." >> please confirm that you are not intending to violate

international law by unlawfully attempting to board "mv. stena." >> no challenge is intended. >> reporter: within moments while fastboats swarmed the tanker an iranian helicopter swarmed over the ship and commandos rappelling onto the deck capturing the vessel and 23 crew members. an iranian flag now flying above the ship's bridge. iran claiming the british vessel violated international maritime laws but the british government says iranians are retaliating for the uk's fourth of july seizure of an iranian vessel they believe was heading to syria. and this morning there's still no word on the fate of the 23 british crew members, but british officials, george, are seeking to resolve the situation. right now. >> and, martha, on another front a u.s. navy plane had an incident with a venezuelan fighter jet. >> they did. u.s. southern command released a video which you can see for yourself how close a venezuelan

fighter jet got to a u.s. reconnaissance plane both flying in international waters but this is a dangerous maneuver. the u.s. saying it jeopardized the crew and the aircraft. the venezuelans clearly just harassing the u.s. for its tough stance against venezuelan leaders. george? >> not safe at all there, martha, thanks very much. cecelia? we turn to the turmoil in puerto rico. overnight the embattled governor announced he will not seek re-election but protesters say that is not enough and many are now demanding that he resign. now a million people getting ready to hit the streets there today. victor oquendo is in san juan with the latest. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, cecilia. we're at the starting point for these demonstrations. this baseball stadium, some people camped out overnight. the crowds really starting to grow and they are loud. organizers calling for an islandwide strike. that's when we expect so many to hit the strike with celebrities like ricky martin leading the charge and they say they won't stop until the governor resigns.

overnight in puerto rico outrage and intense pressure growing. the island's governor ricardo rossello saying on facebook apologizing is not enough. announcing he'll step down as head of the party and won't seek re-election but he will finish his term. >> he said he will not resign but he will step down as leader of the party. is that enough? >> that's not enough. we need him out. we need a good governor. we need leadership. >> reporter: protesters say the frustration with the government has been building, that the last straw was a leaked group chat between the governor and his inner circle, nearly 900 pages laced with sexist and homophobic language. ever since there have been nightly protests at times swelling into the hundreds of thousands taking ovesa. inr e governor to step down only growing louder. the demonstrations leading to clashes with police. and forcing some members of the governor's inner circle to leave

always doubles down. and that's what we saw him do. one of those four democratic members of congress, he says, i don't believe the four congresswomen are capable of loving our country and more like that. it's having a cost. a police officer in louisiana now being suspended for tweeting -- for saying on facebook he thinks representative alexandria ocasio-cortez, quote, deserves a round and i don't mean the kind she served as a bartender suggesting maybe somebody shoot her. the president clearly thinks it is a winning strategy dividing the country along racial and ethnic lines. >> a long way to go before election day. i want to talk about robert mueller's testimony on wednesday morning. he is going to be facing democrats and republicans who have quite different goals, likely to frustrate them both. >> reporter: exactly right, george. this is the big event in washington this week. the mueller testimony right there. democrats want to use this testimony. they have been intensively preparing and holding mock hearings trying to see how they can get robert mueller to help them make the case in their view

president trump did have links with russia and the 2016 campaign and definitely obstructed justice. republicans want to use their time to press their claims that mueller was bias and it was a deep state skulduggery but they have a problem. mueller is a notoriously reluctant witness. he doesn't want to say anything. he's testified up there scores of time. he's made it his practice not to say much and to scorn all that bipartisanship. so fasten your seat belts. it's going to be an interesting show this week. >> this will be his 89th appearance before congress. thanks very much. i know you'll join us wednesday morning. our live coverage of mueller's testimony starts at 8:30 eastern. cecelia, i know you'll be there as well. >> i'll be there as well. we turn to breaking news overnight, manhattan's longest serving district attorney robert morgenthau passed away at 99 years old. morgenthau inspired a law and order character and his office delivered verdicts in some of the country's most high-profile cases including the murder of

john lennon to the wrongful conviction of the central park five. morgenthau moved to have those five men exonerated 13 years later. he's credited with developing prominent legal minds such as justice sonia sotomayor and spent his final years doing pro bono work and ten days shy of his 100th birthday. >> that's incredible, thank you, cecelia. now to that international murder mystery. a young american woman and her boyfriend found dead along a highway in canada. a manhunt now under way and linsey davis here. eyewitnesses are now coming forward. >> they certainly are and good morning. these are people who say they were driving along the notorious highway known as the highway of tears and saw the couple before their demise. now the search for a killer as police try to determine if this was random or targeted. >> reporter: this morning two families on opposite sides of the world are desperate for

answers, mourning the murder of this young couple. >> i don't know who would do something like this. >> this was someone's son, someone's daughter. >> reporter: police in canada say 24-year-old chynna deese, an american from north carolina, and her 23-year-old australian boyfriend, lucas fowler died last week. their bodies found alongside this remote highway. >> it's not yet clear whether lucas and chynna were targeted or if this was a crime of opportunity. >> reporter: chynna's family said they recently set out on a road trip to explore canada's national parks together. along the way their blue 1986 chevy van broke down on highway 97 where they were spotted by this couple who drove by offering help. >> the gentleman insisted that they were okay and that he didn't need our help and that in that same day somebody so evil would do something so horrific to them, that's just terrible. >> reporter: their bodies were discovered the following day. loved ones say chynna and lucas shared a love of travel and

almost broke her arm. nfl should consider punishment, one user wrote. another saying, not the smartest move. she could have been hurt. next time wait to make sure she's jumping too. even brady's celebrity friends chimed in. you know i have complete faith in you as a man, friend, player and father but this just gave me anxiety, jesus. dwayne johnson wrote that while diddy simply added a crying face emoji. this isn't the first time brady has taken the plunge. in 2015 the six-time super bowl champ jumped about 40 feet off another cliff in costa rica sending fans into a craze and brady tweeting never doing that again, #airbrady. since that post he posted a couple more times on instagram. he seemed like he moved on. hasn't said anything else about it. look, it's hard to -- it might make you cringe a little bit but i wasn't there. we weren't there. we don't know how high it was, where the rocks were and can't question him as a dad.

control and wasn't able to right his path until slamming face first into that mountain. terrifying video shows what can happen when the extreme sport paragliding turns dangerous. watch as greg overton of tacoma, washington, loses control of the glider. its parachute-like wing collapsing. his harnesses spinning dramatically, flipping him upside down as he careens towards a mountain cliff. overton screaming out as he smashes into the rock. somehow he seems to turn the paraglader right way up as it drags along the steep rock face. the crash putting him upside down for nearly five minutes. he traveled there two weeks ago with a group of seven others for a so-called flying excursion. >> the wins increased in speed since the last time we had flown there. >> reporter: ross desmond says there were very heavy winds in

the area. >> i noticed it was a little bit bumpy and bouncy. that area was extremely tough to fly the glider in and i decided to get out earlier than he did. >> reporter: the sport is becoming increasingly popular. the pilot sits in a harness and hangs from a large fabric wing letting the wind take over. a paraglider can stay in the air for hours but the glider doesn't control the conditions and if the wind turns, so can the glider. luckily in this case overton was taken to the hospital after suffering only minor injuries. doctors calling him a walking miracle. so again that paraglider is doing well this morning recovering from lacerations and bruises but, guys, this could have been so much worse. his helmet split in half. >> oh, my gosh. >> wow, he is blessed. thank you, gio. thanks for sharing that with us. now to our new series vanished taking a closer look at unsolved missing persons cases and following new clues that could help crack them.

this morning we have the story of a missing missouri girl. shemika cosey disappeared without a trace in 2008 and her family's fight to bring her home. steve osunsami has more. so glad that we're doing this, steve. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, robin. so many of these families feel they're searching on their own, that the public has forgotten and in some cases they feel it's because of the color of their skin. this mother in missouri is refusing to give up hope. >> i still have hope. i still have hope that one day i'm going to find my child. >> reporter: this is the face of the daughter who paula hill wants the world to remember and help her bring home. >> she's 8 on here. >> reporter: she wants people to see her daughter the way she does to this day, a little girl in pigtails. >> it's very hard living day to day not knowing where your child is. >> reporter: her name is shemika cosey and the moment she disappeared is burned into her

mother's memory. >> on december the 28th, 2008, that was the last day that i seen her. and it was a normal day. >> you've come back to this neighborhood a number of times. >> oh, yeah. >> she was here spending the night with her cousins a few days after christmas in 2008 when everyone woke up in the morning and discovered she was gone. she was 16 years old, a door was unlocked and police just outside st. louis believe she ran away so they never searched for the girl. >> they're not doing anything because they think she gone on her own. i don't know what to do. >> reporter: shemika cosey's story was different in a sense that she vanished without a trace. shandra thomas is a local news anchor and reporter who produces a podcast documenting forgotten cases of missing black americans. this was one of her first. >> she was going in and out of the house at that night. at 1:00 a.m. she left with her purse and jacket.

her belongings, her overnight bag still left on the counter in the house and never seen again. >> this idea she ran away, you don't believe that? >> no, no. do i believe she left on her with someone? yes, but she was intending to come back. she was not intending to stay gone for ten years. >> reporter: this mother saying her daughter wasn't perfect. she once discovered a fake i.d. and another time saw her in the dark sedan of a much older man. you believe it's possible she may have been caught up in the sex trafficking trade? >> yes, because i heard her dating older men. >> reporter: frustrated with police the family went searching on their own and posted flyers outside nightclubs where the 16-year-old used to sneak in. she needed someone who understood her pain and started this support group. they told us to tell parents of missing children to never give up. >> we belong to a club that nobody wants to belong to. >> yes. >> we can give each other advice. like they've been through this. >> reporter: years later when

paula hill and her two other girls were packing up to move they found this major clue. >> so this is her -- one of her notebooks. >> reporter: in these three notebooks are shemika's handwritten messages from a few months before she disappeared. she talks about a boyfriend and sharing with him she might be pregnant. >> police interviewed the boyfriend and say he is not a suspect. >> i can assure that this department tried to do everything in our power to find shemika cosey. >> reporter: they tell us the case is still active and recently calls are coming in. >> two weeks ago we got a call and we're going to follow up on any and all leads we get. >> reporter: hill and her daugh to a national registry praying the records give them a match. >> this is her at the family reunion. >> reporter: paula hill gets through the day with a broken heart. in the time we spent with her she smiled and laughed the most

means they can celebrate in private. >> reporter: there is zone involved over mystique. guests and local residents have to register with the island's security every time they enter leaving the royal family to enjoy george's 6th birthday in total privacy. last year william apparently took george turtle watching which he reportedly enjoyed very much. this year we hear that he enjoys swimming and some birthday ice cream. to me sounds like a pretty perfect birthday, robin. >> it certainly does. will, thank you. over to george. >> thank you. we have a "gma" health alert about colorectal cancer. a new study supports changing the age for first time screening from 50 to 45 and dr. jen ashton here to walk us through. i know you've been studying this for a while. break down the new study. >> we reported it. there's good news, bad news. overall the rates for colorectal cancer are dropping except in people diagnosed under the age of 50. that rate is going up. so this study appeared in the journal "cancer."

very reputable and they found that, in fact, yes, there are about 12% of all the new diagnoses occurring in the younger ages group and when diagnosed in a younger person they tend to be later stage cancers with lymph node involvement meaning more aggressive, more difficult to treat, more deadly. >> there's been some controversy over whether to do early testing. >> to understand that controversy we have to really go back to what makes a good screening test. for something to be accepted as a good screening test, it needs to be widely available and needs to be inexpensive. cost is always a factor. it needs to be looking for a disease that's common and out there in the population and most importantly, it needs to have shown that if you detect that disease in this case colorectal cancer that you can hopefully save lives by catching it early. so, yes, on paper this meets all those criteria but i want to be clear we're talking about for the average risk person, there are some people that should be screened early.

no doubt about it, that is not controversial and that basically involves people who have a family history, people who have certain polyp conditions or have been treated with abdominal or pelvic radiation in the past. certain inflammatory bowel conditions, these people should be screened early. they should talk to their health care provider. >> if people are at risk, what can they do? >> this is important for everyone regardless of their age, diet, very, very important in lowering the risk of colorectal cancer. eating a diet high in fruits, vegetable, also minimizing your consumption of red meat, keeping a healthy weight, exercising, not smoking, consuming alcohol in moderation and the last one, george, also controversial. there have been a lot of data that shows that some people when they take aspirin it can lower their risk of colorectal cancer. it's not a widespread recommendation for the general population, but, again, for people at higher risk they should talk to their doctors. >> good advice. thanks, jen. over to cecilia. george, we're going to turn

stand-alone would be to elevate the genre in some way. >> is this considered a prequel? is this considered a resurrection or is this a comeback? >> it's a revelation, i guess, of sorts. take that however it comes out. >> that's a perfect word. black widow, a revelation. >> no, i don't want to say that at all. oh, my god, it's so stuffy. >> let me put you on hold. >> we get to all the questions you may have had about this mysterious character and who she is, where she comes from, whatever the secrets of the past that haunt her. >> it's been nearly a decade of walking in this superhero's shoes. >> i think the biggest surprise for me is that actually her strength is in her vulnerability that has been very liberating just to kind of make that discovery. it's going to be a lot more choices. while she, i think has to put on a brave face in some capacity as a leader, you know, she also is -- she's okay, i think, with

her feelings and with expressing them. >> and even after all this time with marvel, johansson admits a stand-alone movie is certainly new territory. >> you know, it's a little bit scary not having the kind of cushion of my fellow avengers around. i hate to keep saying vulnerable but you feel like you put yourself out there in a different way because the character stands on her own. >> reporter: fans will have to wait and see if there will be any other avengers appearing in this movie. obviously jeremy renner's character and you have this deep emotional connection. >> yes. >> will any part of that story line continue into the black widow story? >> oh, my god. that's when you see the gun come out. they'll take me out first and you going out second. my lips are sealed. >> fair enough. >> you got to wait and see. >> and we will wait and see for sure. every time i see one of these movies or i interview one of these stars i start to think like a little kid like what if i grew up to be a superhero one day. breakfast. >> breakfast, first things first with this breakfast so this is -- we're on the right track. >> kind of like what you would eat in the morning? typical day so there's two things that kind of set you up for an energy crash here so one is the refined carbs from both of the doughnut holes as well as the english muffening. this is -- >> i thought those were tater tots. >> they have a little tater tot feel. >> okay. >> so and plus the processed meat. this is just a high sodium and really a small meal and i think we could do a lot better. the other thing is that sometimes you'll just wait in line for a veritable milk shake when you wanted coffee. >> you can tell i want to make the turn. >> good deal, right? this is -- we've got an egg omelet. tons of veggies, feta will add that extra boost then you have avocado slices here, berry, toast. this is tons of food, right?
