and with running a red light. meanwhile his wife is still in the hospital. abc7 news reporter lyanne melendez at s.f. general hospital with an update now. lyanne? >> reporter: well, as you can imagine, family members are here at the hospital and kelly dean is no longer in critical condition, and that's a good thing, because before she was in an area of the hospital where family members couldn't be with that has now changed. san francisco police say kelly dean's condition has improved. her injuries are now non-life threatening. witnesses say kelly and her husband benjamin dean why hit by the driver of this tesla yesterday in the crosswalk after police say running a red light and colliding with another car. she has been identified asid enere after being arrested. bob navarro ran to h unresponsi. he has a sensitive job and cannot show his face.

>> she was noises. she was on her stomach with her head off to one side. i could see a lot of blood coming from her head, so we just kept talking to her, talking to her. >> reporter: her husband died. the couple from the fresno area had spent the past few days in san francisco celebrating their third wedding anniversary. both worked at the fresno county department of social services. the driver of the tesla had rented the car from an online app called get around. unlike traditional rental car companies that require drivers to be at least 25 years old, the minimum age to drive one of their cars is 19. get around issued this statement. we are cooperating with police and local authorities investigating this tragic incident, and are not sharing any details out of respect for the families involved and the investigation underway. >> we're looking into her criminal background right now. that's part of the investigation. >> reporter: police are also investigatin role, if any,

working at one of his three local markets. he was killed in the overnight hours on september 22nd, 2017, at tolland street and gerald avenue in san francisco. phrase faces multiple felonies including hit and run with injury, gross vehicular man slater and conspiracy. >> in the eastay a man has oubl sky 7 was over the scene at 66th avenue near arthur street. police say they received a call about a shooting just before 10:30 a.m. you can see paramedics are working on a man there on the street. another victim was inside a car. both were taken to the hospital, but police say one of the men died from his injuries. the second victim is listed in stable condition. >> let's turn to the forecast now. i mean, seems like the whole united states is going through this heat wave and it's pretty hot here as well. >> yes. spencer christian is here with the latest. >> certainly getting hot here. check out the current temperatures especially in our inland areas. we have temperature readings in the mid to upper 90s.

million in relief to consumers as well as $100 million civil penalty. the attorney general hailed them and said they put proch its over privacy and greed. the deal must be approved by a federal district court. >> in the north bay, a sonoma county karl-anthonily priest is accused of stealing collection plates. >> santa rosa names father oscar diaz as the suspect. officials say they uncovered a prolonged history of theft. abc7 news reporter wayne freedman is live in sonoma county where he spoke with parishioners today. wayne. >> reporter: well, resurrection parish behind me is a pillar of this community. it is a beloved church and it will probably get through this crisis of credibility. but right now this is the last thing the catholic church needs. members santa have more to pray for than usual this monday. their faith in god remains unshaken.

and father oscar diaz, they're not so sure. >> i just know he's a good man, and my thoughts are, like all of us, we have -- we're just not perfect. >> reporter: the church had been concerned since last june when he 1u6rd serious auto injuries on river road. when police discovered bags of cash in the car, that concern became suspicion. yesterday bishop roger had bad news about father oscar for the congregation. at least $95,000 stolen. quote, it's now absolutely clear from solid evidence that he has been systematically been stealing from parishes and parishioners for the past 15 years. what he has done constitutes a great crime, even in the church. while the church took the case to the santa rosa police, there does not appear to be enough evidence to prosecute. >> it's hard to explain, you know? to hear that, you know? >> for me, money is not so important. it's the relationship with people and the trust that might

be broken. >> reporter: as of now the diocese has removed father oscar from his priestly duties probably forever. and parish members? >> if the father were here now, what would you say to him? >> i'd hug him. and let that speak for itself. >> reporter: we did ask the sonoma county district attorney if they plan to press charges. that office said they have received nothing from the santa rosa police department. they did not get back to us today. the diocese, however, says to prove these charges, it would have to spend even more money, thousands of dollars. that's money it is unwilling to spend at this point. so we'll have to see. live in santa rosa, wayne freedman, abc7 news. >> wayne, you mentioned that other parishes, police say he took from over 15 years. did they identify which ones allegedly were stolen from ? >> reporter: they have. in fact, we have a map that can

as part of our effort to help build a better bay area, we take a closer look at crime around the bay. >> in the past few years we've done so many stories about the increase in car break-ins, especially in san francisco. in 2017, a break-in occurred about every 17 minutes. a year later, down to every 21 minutes. this year it's averaging one break-in every 23 minutes. >> signs have been posted at some of the hot spots especially in places tourists frequent, but really it can happen to anyone. >> abc7 news reporter luz pena spoke to a navy officer who had at least four bags stolen from his rental vehicle. luz? >> reporter: larry, in the several hours that we have been in this parking lot, we have seen purses, we have seen laptops, we have seen back packs

left here in plain sight. many people we speak to tell us they are seeing the signs. they're looking at what's going on around, but they don't believe that this is going to happen to them. until it does. it's a scenic view that everyone who comes to san francisco has to see, making a thieves' dream hot spot. for this car we're seeing here, you can visibly tell there's things inside. what do you notice? what are thieves doing? >> thieves are coming up and seeing the same thing you and i would see. they come up to a vehicle and they would look at those bags and say, okay, look at that. they have stuff in there i can completely see. >> reporter: in a matter of 10 to 15 seconds, windows are smashed and people like navy officer andrew getty go from tourist to victims. did you see the signs around the parking lot? >> oh, yeah, yeah, i did. don't leave your -- don't leave valuables, right? well, i'm moving with a wife and two kids. >> reporter: the brazen thieves

stole four back packs with personal documents, a laptop and his wife's purse. to them that can be replaced except. >> when an 8 or 9-year-old moves, what are the things she brings with her? it's her stuffed h diary. >> we have signs out, prevent auto thefts. >> reporter: we walked around the small parking lot. in a matter of tin minutes we saw five vehicles with visible belongings inside. >> another suitcase. >> reporter: another suitcase. minutes later the suitcase owners showed up. it turns out they're on their hone i moon visiting from italy. thankfully their belongings were not stolen. >> i don't know. this, break my glass or take my baggage, i don't think -- >> reporter: now, according to the golden gate bridge captain, a total of 71 car break-ins have taken place this year alone. to put it into perspective, in the first self inmonths of last

online travel company called fishing booker has ranked the city in santa cruz county 4th on its list of unspoiled vacation spots in the u.s.. the site defines an unspoiled vacation spot as a place that doesn't cater only to tourists, but maintains its reputation and spirit. top three locations on the list, port saint joe in florida. solomons island in maryland and oak bluffs in massachusetts. >> we are following the north bay. this is in napa county. you see that smoke there. it has grown to 45 acres and people on the south side of highway 128, they are being told to evacuate. as we zoom in here now, you can see that smoke coming off those trees there. the chp says the highway has been closed between markley cove and rag canyon road. fire started just after 2:00 p.m. so far we haven't heard of any injuries or any structures, if any structures have been damaged by the flames just yet.

you can tell it looks like a fairly remote area. but as we take a closer look here, you can see the flames coming off there and that black smoke. >> if there is any encouraging news it is that the wind there is very light. the wind is out of the southwest at only 5 miles per hour now. of course, a gust could develop at any time. at the moment the wind doesn't seem to be a factor to be worried about. the humidity is very low. temperature is 91 degrees. so it's hot, it's dry, it's fire weather. >> certainly is. >> let me give you a look at the graphic we put together showing the conditions near the fire right now. now, the wind has just increased, up to -- gust up to 12 miles per hour. you can see generally, though, the wind is relatively light and relative humid sit way down to about 24%. still over 90 degrees. on we go to our wider view of could not digs conditions. it's quite warm and sunny inland. this is a view looking westward in emeryville. skies are clear over the bay, 65 degrees in san francisco, oakland 74. redwood city 79. 84 at san jose.

93 at morgan hill. 57 at half moon bay. here's the view at the golden gate where we have a little bit of layer of low clouds developing there. it's currently 85 degrees at santa rosa. napa 81. 87 at petaluma. t other irfield. locations. mid 90s at concord and livermore. as we look at santa cruz beach, these are our forecast features. prepare for a hot week ahead, especially in our inland areas where temperatures will rise up to about 100 degrees by mid week and may hover there for a day or two. couple days. and the heat will start to ease slightly early next week. overnight look for fog near the coast to maybe a little patch of it moving out across the bay. overnight lowes will be mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s in some inland areas. it is not going to cool down very much. here's our forecast animation taking us into the late night and overnight hours. you can see the fog staying near the coast line except one patch that will reach across the bay, perhaps touching parts of oakland, maybe hayward, emeryville, up to richmond and burn back to the coast line giving us a mainly sunny day

just about everywhere tomorrow. even some coastal areas will see lots of sunshine tomorrow. highs will range from when 60 at half moon bay to 66 here in san francisco. across the bay oakland, 75. down in fremont 86. san jose will also top out at 86 degrees. most of our inland east bailo indications will be in the mid 90s, possibly even higher. up in the north bay, upper 80s at san rafael and santa rosa low to mid 90s at clover dale, lake port, and ukiah. as we look ahead to wednesday, you may not want to if you don't like the heat because high temperatures will rise to just about 100 degrees. 99 we're predicting at fairfield, 97 at livermore. concord only 93. napa only 93. farther north look for 99 at clear lake. bay shore wednesday, upper 70s to mid 80s. upper 60s on the coast. a warm week coming our way. here's the oprah winfre here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. we'll have high temperatures in the mid 90s inland. up to about 80 degrees around

we are following breaking news in the north bay. sky 7 is over a wildfire that's forced evacuations near lake berryessa in napa county as we zoom into the flames and the smoke right here. this fire started around 2:00. it's burned 45 acres so far. people who live on the south side of highway 128 near rag canyon road have been told to evacuate. you saw what looked like a water drop there. they are also doing fire retardant drops. we'll show you that in just a second. but video from earlier shows the heavy smoke from the fire. you can see this is a remote location. looks like a canyon area. cal fire has to attack the flames from the air and you can see the plane right there

dropping the fire retardant. so far no reports of any injuries or structures damaged, but we are keeping an eye on this and we'll continue to update you throughout the afternoon and evening. ama? >> yeah, here are some of the other stories that are making headlines at 4:30. a sonoma county catholic priest is accused em bezeling from from churches. abc7 news lyanne melendez is following up on a deadly crash in a tesla on sunday. she provided this update. the woman behind the wheel at the time of the collision was from vallejo. the victims were tourists from the central valley. abc7 news anchor dion lim provided this picture of a meeting in san francisco's chinatown. there have been a series of violent crimes targeting the chinese community. tensions continue to grow with iran. president trump is disputing the claim that 17 spies working for the c.i.a. have been captured. the united kingdom is weighing in after a british tanker was seized and it's pointing the finger at the president.

abc7 news reporter mona kosar abdi joins us with the developments. >> reporter: all spies are iranian nationals. that is according to iranian officials who say they were hired by the u.s. officials deny the claims. president trump says he may still be open to talking. tonight washington and teheran at a crossroads. president trump telling reporters monday he's waiting to see how the feud with iran unfolds. >> let's see what happens with iran. we are ready for the absolute worst and we're ready for sense, too. >> reporter: the president's comments following reports that iranian officials arrested 17 iranian nationals it is accusing of working for the c.i.a. a ministry official claims the spies collected classified information from nuclear and military centers. >> i read a report today about c.i.a. that's totally a false story. that's another lie. >> reporter: iran echoing a similar denial after the u.s. claimed it downed an iranian

officials say will allow them to take action to ensure the safe passage of vessels. live in washington, mona kosar abdi, abc7 news. >> mona, thank you. top white house officials say president trump is unphased by special counsel robert mueller's appearance before congress on wednesday, except for one thing. >> the president has zero concerns except that the taxpayers are on the hook again for this fantasy that never came true for the democrats who promised all of you and sometimes with your help, that there would be criminal conspiracy and collusion. >> the president first told reporters he would not watch mueller's testimony before two house committees but later said he might watch. mueller will testify regarding his investigation into russian interference in the 2016 election and allegations that the president obstructed justice. abc7 news plans to air a special report covering the mueller hearings on wednesday morning. first report set to begin about 5:30 a.m. and george stephanopoulous will anchor.

>> retired supreme court justice john paul stevens is lying in repose inside the court's great hall where members of the public can pay their respects. take a look at video of president trump and first lady melania paying their respects this morning. stevens served for nearly 35 yars before retiring in 2010. known for wearing a bow tie, stevens was considered the leader of the court's liberal wing. justice stevens will be buried at arlington national cemetery tomorrow. >> according to a new report, thousands of undocumented immigrants have been deported from the u.s. through oakland, which is a sanctuary city. for answers. abc7 news reporter amy holly field has the story for us. >> reporter: a new report says about 27,000 people were deported through oakland's airport over an eight-year period. this is according to our media partner the bay area news group. oakland city councilmember noel gallow is surprised and has questions. >> the airport is the responsibility of the port of

oakland, commissioners and director. and those individuals are appointed by the mayor, chosen by the mayor, and approved by the city council. >> reporter: we also asked travelers this morning about the report as they headed toward their flights. >> i'm a little surprised they hit the airport, but they have ess. >> reporter: the mayor of oakland said she will inveigether this violated the city's sanctuary li. do you think she should investigate, the mayor? >> no, i don't think it's her call. >> there should be an investigation. if it was against what the policy is for oakland, yes, it should be. >> reporter: the mayor's office will also be looking into how to address this. this oakland resident does not want flights full of immigrants leaving this airport. >> we're a country of immigrants, so i don't get why we should be using our airport. our tax-funded -- our taxpayer funded airport to ship out immigrants. >> reporter: and oakland airport spokesperson said they are actively reviewing the situation and says these privately

the morning, but make sure you watch channel 7 later in the day. >> you are the perfect guest so far. i was doing some research when i saw you were coming in. i was looking up life expectancy numbers. monaco is number one where the average age is 89.5 at death. japan is second, singapore third, macau is fourth, san moreno is 5th. i was surprised to see the united states in terms of life expectancy was 43rd in the world at 79.6 years of age. why? >> well, the strange thing about that, larry, is that the united states spends about twice as much per capita per person on health care and yet as you say, we're not even in the top 25. so it's a question of a system that's very inefficient, that is not providing health care, you know, for the vast majority of citizens, and i'll go on the record -- since this is an opportunity -- i think that all americans and people living in the united states should have access to health care, at least
