>>um aaron. th matouy sheriff's department is the revising policies after three taser related deaths last year. vic lee is live with the story from the hall of justice. >> reporter: the san mateo county supervisors still need to vote on the sheriff's new use of force policy. and the sheriff himself still needs to talk with the deputies union about all the changes. however, he believes these changes are good and they're necessary. october 3rd, this 36-year-old was stopped by sheriff's deputies walking in milbrae. okobe died from cardiac arrest after he was shot wayth pepper .

it was concluded the taser contributed to his death. outrage from his family and activist groups. this was the third taser related death in san mateo county. one involving redwood city police, the third by daly city officers detective rosemary says the department is now revising its use of force policies. >> with any experience we go through, there's a learning experience there. we want to do everything we can to protect and provide san mateo county with the best services and training. > the draft policies which represented to the county include better communications when tasers are used. the sheriff's office says they work closely with the aclu. >> one of the changes that we made is now changing the verbiage from actively resisting to violently resisting due to the suggestion of the aylu. >> the sheriff will add more less lethal options for

deputies. this is the 12-gauge less lethal weapon which shoots the rubber project ties. lets me show you how it works. you load it. now, deputies will have another option. the 40 millimeter launcher round has a blue rubber top which shoots out of the weapon. it also fires bean bags con taking little rubber pellets. all sheriffs patrol vehicles will be equipped with these less lethal options and had automated external defibrillators in their cars. >> we've secured funding for aeds in all of our patrol cars. now we're getting 73 different aeds for our entire fleet. >> reporter: again, the sheriff's office says it incorporated many of the aclu's suggestions in its changes to the change of use policy. the aclu applauds the sheriff for the changes but says he did

not go far enough. vic lee, abc7 news. >> all right. thank you very much. a fire that broke out near interstate 780 in solano county is now 50% contained. it burned more than 180 acres. chp says traffic was not going to be affected. cal fire is calling this the marshview fire. it started off marsh view and lopes road. chp says it looks like a power pole caught fire and burned a structure light control panel. fire danger could rise everywhere this weekend right along with the temperatures. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma is here with that. >> we're tracking even warmer weather headed our way for saturday and sunday. we'll take you to the fire. it is hot, dry, just a recipe for any fires that start to spread quickly. humidity bone dry at 1%. we're at 92 degrees around the fire. and winds out of the west blowing at about 13 miles per

hour. running 10 to 15 degrees warmer than yesterday. it is hot out there. it's only going to get hot they are weekend. high pressure will flex its muscle saturday afternoon and those numbers will be on the rise compared to. and that fire danger will be increasing, as well. we'll have the numbers when i see you with the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks, drew. long lines at the dmv like any other day but statewide today, thousands were turned away because of a half day closure to train employees. >> i was like oh, my gosh. i'm going to be first in line? first time ever. >> the unprecedented move came after a lot of frustrated customers faced long lines trying to apply for a real i.d. news reporter laura anthony is live an the dmv office in walnut creek with the story. >> reporter: well, hello there. this office just closed a few

minutes ago. but it was back in business this afternoon. its business though that dmv officials all the way up to the governor hope is better than it was before. >> it's closed. >> reporter: not everyone got the word that their local dmv office was closed had morning. while some were frustrated outside, inside, all 5,000 frontline dmv employees were receiving training on how to better process real i.d. transactions. >> this is actually training that was produced by our employees for our employees so they wanted it. what we're hoping to accomplish today is to provide them with the tools they need to efficiently administer real i.d. applications. >> do you think it's good they're doing this training. > i think it's excellent. >> reporter: the training may be valuable in the long run. >> hi there good afternoon, everyone. >> reporter: here for the real i.d., be sure to have all of your documents out and ready.

>> reporter: in the short term, the closure created a hugeback backlog of people trying to get in and get business done. >> that was a fun two hours. >> reporter: once the doors opened at 1:00, dmv personnel did seem ready to provide real i.d. service with a fresh outlook. >> so when they come here, i usually give them a number. >> yes because they have to send the application in. >> reporter: still, some commerce wondered if a half day of training is enough. >> do you think three or four hours of training is going to make a big difference. >> no, they should do like ten days of that. >> reporter: now, i'm told by the dmv, it won't just be three or four hours but won't be ten days. they don't expect to do any more closures like today but they tell me it the training will be ongoing up till the october 2020 deadline when folks have to have the real i.d. or a federal document like a passport to board a plane. laura anthony, abc7 news. >> thank you very much.

new information today on the investigation of a deadly crash involving a central valley couple and the driver of a rented tesla. police now saying the electric streak's driver assist feature was not in operation at the time of the accident. abc7 news lyanne melendez joins us live from san francisco with what experts say this means for the 21-year-old driver. lyanne? >> reporter: well, eric, police would not say what this means for that driver. now, sfpd has a unit called the traffic collision investigation unit. now, those investigators took the data storage device from the tesla. we asked an expert to help us understand what they are looking for. the preliminary information given to reporters by san francisco police states that when this black tesla rammed through a red light hitting two pedestrians killing one of them, the driver police say was in full control. if not on autopilot, can we say

that the driver was at fault? >> so far that's what it looks like, yes. speed was a primary collision factor. >> that's joe nannerry, a former sfpd lieutenant who was well informed when it comes to teslas. sfpd would not talk to reporters on to say they're preparing search warrants to obtain more frfgs from the car's data storage device which they took out after the accident. so why a certainly warrant? >> it's pretty common procedure for any big company if you're going to ask for records they maintain that they're going to want a search warrant before the records are released to you. >> reporter: tesla is known for fighting customers in court to refrain from giving up any data. >> we want to reiterate we are not bashing tesla here. but the reality is that with this system, we know everything that the driver did or was doing. so that that person can't say no, i didn't run that red light. am i right?

>> correct. pretty much so. obviously, there's going to be video cameras on that car that time this event happened. if it does show the lights on the intersection, that's even better. >> what is he most concerned about is that the online rental company get around allows anyone as young as 19 years old and without any prior knowledge to drive a tesla model s. are they really that different from any other ordinary car? >> it's not a type of car that most people just go rent ar temporarily and get into and drive. this is kind of an anomaly here. >> reporter: and i learned one more thing. tesla drivers or owners can purchase cables for $995. and then download a software kit from tesla to retrieve any information, all that data from the data storage device in case that driver or their owner needs

it for a legal or any kind of insurance purposes. but again, that information is very limited. tesla keeps all of your other information to themselves. i'm live in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc7 news. >> thanks. now, more tesla news here. the company stock is taking a hit in after hours trading after tesla posted a bigger loss than anticipated. take a look. this bloomberg graphic shows the dramatic drop when they made the announcement. the shares quickly plunged nearly 6%. the stock tumbled more than 10% after the closing bell. automaker missed financial target in the second quarter despite record delivers of its vehicles. it expects to return to profitability in the third quarter. >> it may be the biggest sale of the year, billion by goog to buy the oldia ha campus. the site will likely stay an office park though it's possible housing could become part of the mix. the story from unser hassan.

>> the sign at 701 first avenue says yahoo but now it belongs to google. public records so a grant deed was filed on tuesday transferring the property to google. google wouldn't comment on camera but did confirm the sale to abc7 news. the company says it plans to keep the seven buildings that make up the campus as an office campus of their own. >> it is a big deal. certainly google acquired quite a bit of property in the park area reporter. the city manager for sunnyvale says it's too soon to know if any of the newly purchased property would be part of google's billion dollar plan 0 build homes. currently the park isn't zoned for housing. it would require an amendment to the area's spec plan to do so. >> housing is one of the things we're considering for that area. but we need to do environmental impact reviews and studies before there's any conclusions. >> that would reduce the impact in street track all over the place.

we have some unbelievable surveillance video to show you this afternoon. cameras at atlanta's airport captured a 2-year-old boy jumping on to a baggage conveyor belt and coming out injured. here's what happened to little lorenzo. >> airport surveillance video shows the moment the boy crawled onto the belt. his mother edith vega says she set her son down to print out a boarding pass. when she looked up, she saw him being carried away. that's her alerting the employee and pointing at the opening where her son disappeared. >> i went blank. i was like hey, my son i want to try to go get him but she didn't allow me. i was freaking out and oh, my goodness, i hope he's okay. i hope he's just enjoying the ride. >> reporter: in this video

provided by hartsfield-jackson international airport, you can see him trying to crawl over suitcases but the momentum on the belt is just toot much. lorenzo finally landed in a tsa bag room. a man lifted him off the belt and he was rushed to a local hospital with a broken hand. >> thank god he's alive. i'm grateful he's here and hope he gets better. >> reporter: spirit airlines is working with the tsa and the airport in their investigations. >> lorenzo's journey lasted five minutes full of twists and turns. he was struggling in the video. and airport spokesperson says the belt at the ticket counter was not moving when he first walked up to it, but its pressure activate and started moving when he got on. >> san francisco is moving closer to further restricting car traffic on a large portion of market street. the planning commission is set to certify an environmentalimpa

region. when the air temperature gets into the 90s, the pavement gets down right hot. this is important for all those pet owners out there. your dogs take note. when the air temperature is 95 degrees, the concrete soars to 120 degrees and asphalt scorching even hotter than that at 145 degrees and that can do damage to your pet's paus. so what you want to do, put your hand on the pavement for five seconds. if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog. try to walk them on the grass or wait till the sun goes down and the pavement starts to cool off. overnight lows we'll be mild away from the coast. in the 60s for concord, antioch, livermore, fremont. san jose. very limited fog along the coastline. plenty of stars for a lot of us. live doppler 7 along with satellite this area of high pressure has been sitting over the four corners. you can see an ample amount of shower activity around it even a lot of cloud cover, as well.

sanctuary called squirrel monkey haven, the facility would be home for up to the 55 primates previously used by medical researchers. the monkeys are now retired and out a new home they would likely be euthanized. >> these monkeys that dedicated their lives to behavioral research and other types of research that benefits humankind we have an obligation to to see they live in a tranquil and peaceful manner. >> reporter: the owners say the facility would have 18 climate controlled kennels with attached outdoor habitats and be surrounded by a fence. some homeowners aren't happy about the monkey business. they filed an appeal last year talking about potential escapes, odors and noise. >> we came to the country because we like the sounds of the country. >> reporter: an environmental review is now complete. county staff says the project met all rimpts. >> the predicted property line
