warnings. >> reporter: good morning. one of the conclusions of the mueller investigation is that russia exteinterfere in theintee election. so far this new legislation isn't getting anywhere. today senate democrats say there needs to be swift action for congress to protect the security of america's elections. >> mueller's testimony should be a wake-up call to every american that the integrity of our elections is at stake. >> reporter: those comments coming a day after special counsel mueller's testimony where he confirmed his investigation found russia interfered in the 2016 election in a sweeping and systemic fashion. >> they're doing it as we sit here and expect to do it during the next campaign. >> reporter: following mueller's t a bipartisan senate report detailed the extent of the interference saying russia gained unauthorized access to the personal data of hundreds of thousands of voters anth

scni ofden ta digitic senators responding seeking passage of multiple bills bolstering security only to be stopped by republican leader mitch mcconnell if it's just a highly partisan bill from the same folks who hyped a conspiracy theory about president trump and russia. >> reporter: senator mcconnell blocked nearly every effort to bring security to elections to the floor including some co-authored by lindsey graham. with congress locked in yet another stalemate president trump is focused on the mueller investigation. >> this was treason. this was high crimes. >> reporter: in regards to election security republican senator chuck grassley said there were similar efforts to interfear in the 2018 election that the u.s. was aware ofment while he couldn't reveal the details of what he learned he did say there was success in stopping those efforts of interference. janai, kenneth.

>> thank you. north korea says its latest test was meant as a solemn warning to south korea about their weapons development and drills upcoming. it shows kim jong-un supervising the launches and say it involved a new type of tactical guide weapon hard to intercept. the heightened tensions come as kim and president trump work on resuming stalled nuclear talks. a series of arrests at camp pendleton is being called a black eye for the marine corps. 16 marines were taken into custody during a battalion formation. they were arrested for, quote, alleged involvement in various illegal activities from human smuggling to drug-related ddz s marines could also be in trouble. >> reporter: it is possible that the marines could face jail time depending on the severity and scope of what is found but having 16 marines arrested at once will likely lead to more investigations and even more of a spotlight on human smuggling.

>> other eight marines being questioned about their alleged involvement in drug offenses. investigators try to deshl how financier jeffrey epstein ended up unresponsive with injuries in his new york city jail cell. epstein is on a suicide watch. the incident is being treated as a possible assault or zhu side attempt. investigators hot ruled out the possibility that epstein paid someone to beat him up. he says he doesn't remember what happened. this all comes just a week after epstein who is awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges was denied bail. police don't know the motive for a man's deadly rampage that lasted more than half a day and by the time it was over, four people were dead. marci gonzalez reports from l.a. >> reporter: a violent crime spree spread across four separate scenes in california setting off a tense 13-hour-long manhunt. >> go ahead and add ems. i got a total of three victims.

>> roger, three victims. >> reporter: the first call to police coming in at 1:50 thursday morning from this apartment building near los angeles where police say 26-year-old gerry zaragoza killed his father and brother and shot his mother. >> don't approach him as he's shown himself to be very dangerous. >> reporter: less than an hour later the lapd say zaragoza killed a female acquaintance and shot her co-worker at this north hollywood gas station and just before 8:00 a.m., police say zaragoza tried to rob a customer at gunpoint a bank atm. at quarter to 1:00 a shooting on a city bus where one was killed. >> he just got up and shot the dude in the chest and everybody just scattered. >> green jacket. blue dodgers hat, he ran eastbound from this location. >> reporter: police finally tracking tracing him and taking him into custody. marci gonzalez, abc news, los angeles. >> our thanks to marci. friends and former classmates came together to

a massive fire destroyed a house overnight in maryland.

three firefighters were hurt at the scene near annapolis. their injuries are said to be minor. no one was in the house when it started. the cause is under investigation. and a big mess to clean up in northern missouri where about 70 train cars derailed. luckily that train was only carrying sand and no one was hurt which is incredible given these images. that train was traveling from wisconsin to ft. worth, texas. the cause is still being investigated. president trump is blasting sweden after assault charges were filed against a$ap rocky. that was over a fight in stockholm captured on video and obtained by tmz. the rapper was arrested more than three weeks ago and a swedish prosecutor says he will remain in custody until trial set to begin tuesday. the president tweeted, sweden has let our african-american community down in the united states. i watched the tapes of a$ap rocky and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. treat americans fair, the president said. and the prime minister of sweden

replied in a statement saying, quote, in sweden, everyone is equal before the law. the government is not allowed and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings which are now ongoing. a brazen gold heist at an airport in brazil. authorities say the thiefsss stole $40 million worth of gold and other precious metals. the suspects were dressed as police officers and armed with weapons. they used cars that looked like patrol vehicles to make their getaway. the cars were later found abandoned in a nearby neighborhood. police are searching for those suspects. so here's a unique world record that was in kenneth's home state, the great state of south carolina. a chef has created a $310 crab cake that guinness is recognizing as the world's most expensive crab cake. it's made with black truffles and is encrusted with platinum. the chef is giving part of the proceeds from the dish to a charity that benefits lo how do you like that kenneth? >> that's happening in famously

hospitalized in the past month all with lung damage because of vaping. doctors say the patients experienced shortness of breath, fatigue, weight loss and chest pain. >> they come in not breathing well, having lost weight. >> reporter: an exact cause is unknown. and wisconsin health officials are still gathering information on what connection there may be among these eight cases if any. doctors say it's unclear how long the teenagers' health issues will last. >> we don't have studies that show the long-term effects and that's why we're so concerned because these are teenagers that are facing the rest of their lives and don't know what the potential impact will be. >> reporter: the warning came as the co-founder of juul answered questions on capitol hill. a house committing is investigators whether the company marketed it to kids. >> you don't have for permission. you ask for forgiveness. you're not but a marketer of poison and your target is young people. >> reporter: juul's co-founder says juul was developed for

violated oakland's sanctuary citi field. abc 7 reporter amy hollyfield live at the airport. good morning, amy. >> reporter: there was outrage at the meeting last night about what was going on. people passionately spoke out at oakland's board of port commissioners meeting. the port commission is in charge of the airport. people wanted to know why the port would allow i.c.e. to fly detainees out of here in a sanctuary city. it happened to about 43,000 people. the port said it did not know it was happening and is investigating. speakers last night said they also want to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> we just want no use of our airport by i.c.e. it's an agency that is right now working on behalf of a government that is making public threats against the immigrant community. >> reporter: i.c.e. released a statement saying i.c.e. made an internal operational decision to discontinue the use of charter flights out of oakland in
