the andmeantime, perfect beh saa c a live look at the north bay from our mount tam cam. absolutely gorgeous out there. the highs some 15 degrees above what we saw yesterday. abc 7 news meteorologist drew d tuma with how long it will last. >> i feel like you should take off the jacket. >> here in san francisco it's not too bad. we have the fog keeping us cool in the 50s and 60s and it's much better, and we have temperatures well into the 90s and surpassing 90 degrees and 102 in pleasanton right now in 100 in walnut creek and we are sweating in cities. 101 in brentwood and in san ramon, a hot 97 degrees and the wider picture. this is truly summer in the bay area. we've got a wide range about 40 degrees from the coast for inland communities and only 66

in san francisco thanks to a sea breeze and you hop over into the east bay and 81 in oakland, san jose, you are cooking at 89 degrees right now. we do have the heat advisory and it is still in effect lasting through tonight and into tomorrow evening as well and what that means, heat exhaustion can occur rapidly with the hot temperatures and you do want to drink plenty of fluids. by 10:00, we are still in the 70s and 80s and we'll see a repeat, and we will see you when cooler air arrives in just a few minutes. >> looking forward to it, drew. thanks. drew mentioned some of the hottest spots are in the east bay. abc 7 news was in downtown oakland where people enjoyed the 18th annual heart and soul festival. the festival features the sound and flavors of oakland and the celebrations are taking place around broadway near city hall. if you missed it today, don't worry, the fun does continue tomorrow. and a reminder, you can always download the abc 7 news app to get alerts about the dangerously hot weather where you live.

our app lets you customize the forecast. you can also allow for push alerts for news, weather and updates sent directly to your mobile device. to the developing news out of italy where two young men from the bay area face charges tonight for a stabbing death of a police officer in rome. we are learning more about the young men implicated in the case. >> tonight these two americans are behind bars at rome's prison. gabriel cristian natal hjorth seen here after being detained in their hotel room and people have confessed to being involved in a violent altercation that resulted in the death of an italian police officer. the policeman stabbed during a scuffle at 3:00 a.m. friday with two people suspected of stealing a backpack and trying to ransom it back. police say it was a gone bad. the suspect seen here in surveillance images fled the scene. police say they found overwhelming evidence in the

suspect's hotel room including the alleged murder weapon cleverley concealed behind one of the ceiling tiles and blood-stained clothing supposedly worn in the attack. italian media report their bags were packed and flights booked. this case is politically charged. brigadier mario rega years old and his funeral at the same church where he was married one month ago. the two men recently graduated from temple pius high school. you spoke to people who knew these guys. >> news of this brutal crime has reached mill valley and graduates of temple pius high school, and you what? no one can believe it. >> i'm going to faint here. gloria keely was shaking here

after hearing the news that her neighbor's son, 19-year-old finnegan elder and his friend gabriel hjorth are accused of stabbing an italian police officer to death in rome after an apparent drug deal gone wrong. >> i've known fin since he was born and he is one of the nicest neighbors i've -- i have. >> italian surveillance video shows two men believed to be elder and hjorth running away with a stolen backpack belonging to an italian citizen and they said they would not return it unless they would get 100 euros and cocaine. >> i've never seen violence from him. >> the family told us in a statement we are shocked and dismayed at the events that have been reported, but we have very little independent information about these events. we have not been able to have any communication with our son. both elder and hjorth graduated from temple pius high school in mill val ney 2018.

with bay area ties were inside a south korean nightclub. two korean men died in addition to those injuries and a dozen others were hurt and former cal water polo player stanford student athlete ben halet are recovering. the team was in korea for the world championships. and we have learned about a new development today in a crash in san francisco that split the car in two and injured four passengers. late last night police say the 19-year-old driver turned herself in and has been booked on charges. officers say the driver took off just after the crash thursday morning in the bay view district. three girls ages 11, 14 and 17 and a 19-year-old man were injured. all are expected to be okay. oakland mayor libby shaft may have to pay after an investigation found her campaign told illegal contributions. the oakland public ethics commission says it found that

shaft's campaign accepted donations over the legal limit of several large properties. the commission found 11 west partners llc donated $2400 over the limit. a spokesperson for the 2018 campaign says it unknowingly accepted unauthorized contributions and now has additional safeguards in place. the ethics commission is scheduled to vote on possible fines at its meeting on august 5th. a progress report on david ortiz still healing after being shot at point plank range. coming up, we learn about the extent of the injuries and the multiple surgeries he underwen so that early retirement we planned. it's going ok? great. now i'm spending more time with the kids. i'm introducing them to crab.

from chevron's refinery in richmond this afternoon. you are looking at the view from the camera atop mount tam. chevron has not responded to our requests to find out what happened. a community warning went out on july 17th after flaring relieved pressure at the refinery. it posed no public health risk. >> u.s. marshals have captured a rape suspect from scottland who is accused of faking his own death along the monterey county coast. he also went by the name ken vincent avis. his son reported him missing claiming his father went for a nighttime swim back in february. searchers spent three days looking for the 55-year-old gordon. gordon is now in custody after being arrested in colorado. he now faces 24 counts of rape back home in scotland. happening tonight in the east bay in less than two hours an annual music concert is set to begin in memory of a 14-year-old murder victim. jenny lin was stabbed to death in her home in castro valley 25

years ago. her case remains unsolved. the jenny lin foundation began soon after to promote music education. it is sponsoring music concert in hayward at 6:30 tonight. former abc 7 news anchor cheryl jennings will serve as emcee. new details now in the shooting of former boston red sox legend david ortiz. he is out of the hospital today. ortiz was shot in the dominican republic on june 9th and was released from a boston hospital yesterday where surgeons had removed part of his intestine, colon and gallbladder. surveillance video shows the shooting. the investigators say the intended target was ortiz's friend. police have made several arrests. retailers are taking a new approach to shopping and that story ahead. >> as i was checking out, i just said how much for the rest of the shoes in the store? >> and a woman went on a big shopping spree, but not a single

>> a back to school drive in san jose is in desperate need of donations this year. sacred heart community service puts together supply kits for students and teachers every year. 3300 students have signed up for backpacks which include supplies like calculator, ear buds and usb drive, but right now only 2,000 backpacks are available. the non-profit says each kit contains an average of $400 in supplies. one mother's generosity will benefit hundred of people after she bought out the entire inventory at a payless shoe source in arkansas. carrie jenigans gesture -- the girl asked her mom if they could buy a pair of avengers sneakers

york. >> all right, getting back to the weather now where drew tuma has left me here in the studio by myself. he is up on the roof enjoying that sunshine and really, there are wild temperatures all across the bay area. >> there are, of course, close to the coast you have the fog so you're cool in the 60s, but away from the coast and our inland spots scorching in the 90s and surpassing 100 degrees. live doppler 7 will show you the fog has been drying up against the coastline and that's about it. sunshine for a lot of us. outside we go, sutro tower and this is a refreshing picture and if you have the fog moving through the golden gate bridge and the fog will be limited to this area over the next 24 hours and high pressure is firmly in control. it is a spare the air day today and another one on the way tomorrow. you look at the air quality across the region and most spots anywhere from moderate to poor air quality thanks to the pollutants getting tracked to the surface. if you have asthma, you do want

to limit your time outdoors oveo the next 24 hours as your time starts to improve. look at the hot spots. 91 in sunniville. 85 the creurrent temperature an the same in liver more and 105 in fairfield and 96 in napa and it's very hot in the north bay and 93 in san rafael and you look to the south in san francisco and that's a huge temperature range in just a short distance and san mateo right now is at 80 degrees. you see a lot of cities will hold in the 60s like san jose, concord, antioch and cloverdale and plenty of stars away from the coast and patchy fog along the coastline. high pressure situated close to southern california and just continues to usher in those warm temperatures especially inland and that's not going to change the next 24 hours.
