backup. metering lights turned on at 5:15 this morning. here is the situation now on the altamont. it's westbound 580 near grant line. sig alert in effect. far right lane remains blocked, two big rigs got into it with a fuel leak. traffic on 580 merging with 205 is also very, very slow. stall on the sunol grade, southbound 680 near sheridan slowing your commute from sunol towards fremont. here is a look at your drive times, an hour and 12 minutes, which is actually an improvement. slow antioch to concord, 23 minutes. drive into san francisco through marin, great at this hour, less than 20 minutes. now the latest on the deadly shooting at the gilroy garlic festival. gilroy police confirmed they're going to hold a briefing at 10:00 a.m. >> we'll stream that event live when it happens on abc7news.com and the abc 7 news app. let's catch you up on the latest

of what we know at this hour. gunfire broke out around 5:40 yesterday even at christmas hill park. gilroy police say they shot and killed the gunman. police say witnesses reported a second suspect. investigators still don't know exactly how that person was involved. this morning three victims are dead including a 6-year-old boy. the gunman is also dead. last night and this morning, we told you 15 were bounded. now gilroy police are clarifying this morning, that number of wounded is actually 12 people. >> so many of us were just devastated when we heard a 6-year-old boy was one of those killed last night. >> abc 7 news reporter jobina fortson live outside regional medical center in san jose. that's where the boy's grandmother shared her grief with reporters overnight. jobina. >> reporter: good morning. steven romero is the name of the 6-year-old boy who was killed. according to a hospital spokesperson, the injuries as far as the conditions of the other people hurt in the

shooting yesterday, those conditions range from fair to critical condition. steven romero's grandmother spoke with reporters outside the hospital last night. she described her grandson as a loving boy. maribel romero tells us she was at home when she got a call from someone who said her grandson who was at the event with his mother and other grandmother were shot. romero says his mother and other grandmother were hurt as well in the shooting. romero says she just wants justice for her grandson. >> it has to be someone really sick because shooting a kid, and that's a family event. i just hope there's justice and they catch the last person or the other person and that there's justice. i want justice for my grandson. >> according to city officials three people were killed, and that does not include the suspect who was also brought

down by police totaling up to four people there. live in san jose, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. a rock band called tinman was performing on stage when the shooting happened. like many others, they thought the gunfire was fireworks at first until a band member actually spotted the shooter. >> he started shooting again in the direction of where all the food -- people were dining, and i said, guys off. we cleared the stage at that point and ducked under the stage so we wouldn't be visible. >> we could smell the gunpowder. >> we could smell it. >> you could hear the screams. it was awful. >> from my perspective, it looked like he was bigfeople he on the stage at tttime. they were playing an encore. >> you can see the grounds are divided into two sections, park side and ranch side.

helicopter in level two ene,oids which trance parted many wounded to valley medical center. the deadly shooting at the garlic festival, abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo was at the festival yesterday. >> here is what he said about security when she appeared on abc 7 news at 11:00. my family was at the gilroy garlic festival today, arrived at 10:00, left at 3:00, when we went through security it was a brief check of what was inside our purses. i did mention i didn't see any metal detectors around me, though gilroy pd did mention that security had metal detecting wands. again, that didn't matter as they believe the shooter went through the creek and cut through a fence. >> one witness said she watched as police took down the shooter. >> i seen him starting to take steps. while he was trying to take the steps, like i say, it looked

above-average heat this weekend, but not a repeat of what we just lived through. the high pressure retreating back to the east. a couple of new players, the areas of low pressure bringing down cooler weather from the he up to 20 degrees cooler today. down in the south bay, 73 in milpitas, gilroy 84. santa cruz 76. as you head up the peninsula, we start in the mid 70s, but drop to 68 in millbrae, low to mid 60s with a lot of cloud cover at the coast today. downtown, south san francisco, sausalito may never kplooit completely get rid of the clouds. we'll have low to mid 80s through most of the north bay valleys. look at richmond and berkeley. breezy with stubborn clouds, upper 60s, 70 to 74 for the rest of the east bay shore lines. we were in the 100s yesterday. not even 90s. low to mid 80s for most of the east bay valleys. my accuweather seven-day

here is a look at one of the reasons why the dramatic drop in temperature happens today. look at the winds in the yellow. they'll be coming out of the west, 30 to 35-mile-per-hour gusts from 1:00 to 9:00. pretty breezy on the bay bridge. it will be the carquinez and ben neegs bridges during the morning commute. a stretch of lucas valley road is closed because of an overturned tanker that spilled fuel into the creekbed. >> the tanker was carrying 6,700 gallons of fuel when it overturned. west gate drive and casio valley road is closed to clean up the spill. firefighters say about 250

gallons were released into a dry creekbed. all the fuel has to be removed from the truck before they can tow it. update on a 2-year-old hit-and-run victim, the little girl has been released from the hospital. police arrested hector larios who they say was driving the van that hit the toddler. he faces felony dui and hit-and-run charges. he's had four prior dui convictions in just the last six years. happening today, two pieces of legislation about parking in san francisco will come before the city's land use committee. one will require commercial parking lots in garages with more than 100 parking spots, have electric vehicle charging equipment and the other would change the maximum number of spots allowed in some garages that are not underground. they still san ysidro to go to the full board of supervisors for a hearing. san francisco is considering buying pg&e's local power lines,

here is what we know. a total of four people are dead, three victims and the gunman. police shot and killed the suspect. 12 more people are hurt this morning. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at the festival grounds in gilroy to explain how this happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. you can see behind me police are still here on the scene. there's an active manhunt going on right now. they're still looking for a possible second suspect. one gunman was shot dead by police. we have cell phone video to show you of the chaos taken at the festival as people ran for their lives. shots were fired at 5:41 yesterday. three people were killed including a 6-year-old boy. 12 people were hurt. guns were not allowed at the festival. security checked for weapons at the gate. the police chief described how the person or people involved snuck into the festival. >> it appears as if though they

had come into the festival via the creek which borders a parking area and they used some sort of a tool to cut through the fence to be able to gain access through the secure fence line and that's how they got into the festival area itself. >> reporter: it was witnesses who told police there may have been a second suspect. police don't know for sure, but they are still looking. they don't know whether that person is armed. poice say the killer used an assault-type rifle. the police chief also said there were no surveillance cameras at the festival. they are asking for witnesses to come forward and share any information they have with police. at this time they haven't released any information about this shooter or the possible motive. live in gilroy, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. now to the victims. we learned, as we mentioned, one of the three people killed is a 6-year-old boy.

our team coverage continues with abc 7 news reporter jobina fortson live outside the medical center in san jose where the boy's grandmother shared her grief with reporters. jobina. >> reporter: good morning. steven romero is the name of the 6-year-old boy killed yesterday. his grandmother talked to reporters outside the hospital overnight. she said steven was with his mother and other grandmother at the garlic festival yesterday, and they were shot as well. maribel romero says steven was so loving. xi talked with us again and said her grandson was just so playful and she is devastated by all this. she says she went from hospital to hospital trying to find him after she got a call yesterday saying she had been shot. when she finally reached the last location, he had already died. romero says steven's mother and grandmother are still recovering at the hospital. that was as of last night. romero says she wants justice for her grandson and called the

shooter a sick person for firing at a child. >> so far i know the shooter got my daughter-in-law through her stomach and her hand. i guess it passed through the side of the stomach through the babies back and through him. i'm not quite sure on that. grandma got shot in the leg or in the feet. i know mom is in surgery already. grandmother hasn't been taken aware of because they're waiting for insurance. the ceo said they were going to take care of that. >> reporter: the conditions that of the hospitalized victims range from critical to fair. live in san jose this morning, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. >> jobina, thank you. abc 7 reporter luz pena spoke to witnesses. two people working the event were feet away from the gunman when they saw him load his weapon and fire into the crowd. >> we just left our booth and

walked into the port toe potties. we came out, heard a pop. we looked at each other and said, oh, maybe it's fireworks. then we both looked and the gunman was about 10 to 15 feet away from us. he had like a rifle and he was putting the clip into it. he put a clip into it and started -- >> turned and started walking and shooting. he didn't care. >> the women said he ended up shooting two of their co-workers, and on "good morning america" they apparently said their co-workers were critically injured. >> of course, a lot of people at the garlic festival started recording video of the event going on. at least one caught what appears to be gunshots. [ gunshots ]. >> you can hear the sound as people started running in a panic as the gunfire erupted. >> one woman went on facebook as the shooting was happening. here is the video she posted.

>> they shooting at the garlic festival. they are shooting! they shooting at the garlic festival! oh, my god! they shooting! they are shooting! >> the woman who shot the video is okay this morning. she said after the shooting she posted it on facebook. she said she is praying for the victims. let's give you an idea of the timeline last night as the shooting unfolded. according to gilroy police, the first reports of the shooting came down at 5:41 p.m. yesterday. that was on the north side of the festival. in less than a minute, officers responded shooting and killing the suspect. witnesses did report a second suspect. it is still not clear if that person was a shooter or acted in a supporting role. more information could be released during the news conference we're expecting at 10:00 a.m. we will stream that for you at

abc7news.com. abc 7's amanda del castillo was at the festival before the shoog broke out. she said she had to go through security and a bag check. she didn't see the walk-through metal detectors. but police say security had metal detecting wands. police say the gunman cut through a fence bordering a creek. we've been hearing from local and national leaders including gavin newsom. he says this is nothing short of who ring. california stands with the gilroy community. his office is monitoring the situation closely and grateful for law enforcement's efforts and their continued work as the situation develops. we also heart from senator kamala harris. grateful to first responders who were on the scene in gilroy and keeping those injured by such senseless violence and my thoughts. my office is closely monitoring the situation. and finally, we're hearing from teresa guidice, the star of "the real housewives of new jersey" who was at the festival this weekend. she said she's truly heartbroken. she says she was at the festival

with wonderful staff, volunteers and many, many families and she is flooded with thoughts of them now as they navigate this tragic situation. she goes on to say, prayers and love to the community of gilroy. let's show you a map of gilroy. as you likely know, it's about 30 miles south of san jose along highway 101. the first day of the festival was on friday. action 7 news was there for that opening day. the first day of the festival -- execute me -- that was a repeat. this is the 41st year of the festival and its pop lafrt has put the city of 55,000 on the map. the shooting happened just as the festival was beginning to wind down. classic rock band from san jose tinman was playing on the vineyard stage. you can see that on the top left side of your screen, on the northwest side of the festival grounds. more on the gilroy garlic festival shooting still ahead. panic as the sound of gunshots rings out. this morning we're hearing how some people escaped.

that person's role in the shooting. >> a group of teens that ran from the gunfire say they jumped through a fence and ran into a wooded area to hide. one member of that group was wounded during the escape. family members describe the frantic moments. >> we went through a fence. a guy helped us to, like, pass it. and then we were there with the girl who got shot. >> your cousin. >> yeah. >> when did she get shot? what happened? >> we didn't know she got shot. we were running with her. when we saw, she already had a hole in the leg. >> gabriel says he took off his shirt and applied pressure to his cousin's gunshot wound. she's one of the 12 victims who was injured, brought to valley medical center in san jose. take a look at the view from sky 7. you can see the flashing lights, the heavy police presence in that parking lot all the way to the main intersection outside the festival grounds. law enforcement blocked off several adjacent neighborhoods

be held for the italian police officer killed in the line of duty, and the suspects are two teens from the bay area. abc news news reporter ian pannell is at the murder scene which has turned into a memorial. >> reporter: good morning. italy is a nation that awakes from the weekend in shock at the murder of one of its police officers, al wlej edly at the hands of two american teenagers. this is the scene where the man was stabbed to death, 11 times. what was a pool of blood early friday morning has now become a makeshift shrine with flowers and candles being put at the scene. the two americans suspected of killing the police officer are being held separately in jail this morning, not allowed to speak to each other. 18-year-old gabe natale hjorth and 19-year-old finnegan elder were taken in for questions. police say the two americans confessed to stealing a backpack in an alleged drug deal gone wrong. security footage showing the suspects fleeing the scene. it ended with the fatal stabbing

morning in the ghost ship fire trial. derick almena and max harris each face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2016 warehouse fire. closing arguments expected to last at least three days. the jury could get the case august 5th. testimony has been tense at times with the defense suggesting the fire was the work of an arsonist. prosecutors refute that claim. a new abc poll suggest the mueller hearings didn't change americans' minds about impeaching the president. the poll found 47% of the people who saw robert mueller's testimony said it made no difference. 27% of the group said the testimony made them more likely to support impeaching president trump, but 26% said it made them less likely to. president trump said the hearing was a success, suggesting it cleared him of wrongdoing. since the testimony, nearly a dozen lawmakers have moved to support an impeachment inquiry. it is now 6:50. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast.
