to the latest on the gilroy garlic festival shooting. they are still investigating the motive. >> the accused gunman's car was found yesterday and they found a second gun purchased in nevada. authorities were able to track the movermesuspect's movements the shooting. >> it's not known what he was buying or if it was related to the attack. the fbi needs three to five more days to process the crime scene. earlier today police started escorting festival vendors and volunteers to their vehicles left in parking lots. >> in the meantime we continue to learn more about the three people killed on sunday at the gilroy garlic festival. 6-year-old stehpeh romero and 13-year-old keyla salazar and 25-year-old trever irby. >> happening now. the family of keyla salazar is about to speak publicly about the daughter they just lost. you see the p set up but no one is there yet. it will be coming up

momentarily. it will be at the school where keyla recently graduated. >> wayne freedman spoke with friends of the family and joins us with more, wayne? >> reporter: good evening, dan. that podium is behind me. she was 13 years old about to celebrate a birthday, keyla salazar a remarkable young woman according to everyone in the family. for most of the day they spent the day behind closed doors. at this home on a quiet stan jose street, a seemingly endless supply of sympathetic people came to visit through much of today except for him, we could only guess within the grief within. >> she's the person you would think is an angel because everything she did, she was not for her but for everyone else. she tried to make everyone happy but herself. >> he's speaking of his niece keyla salazar. the 13-year-old girl that lost her life at the shooting. he says keyla was probably trying to protect her family.

>> she was the first one to scoot up and she turned around to look at her family where they were and that's where she got shot. >> reporter: keyla was a student here at a charter school in san jose. the family intends to hold a memorial here later tonight. they describe her as being shy but strong in spirit, the best of them all. >> i feel really, really frustrated because i promised her that i was going to be the one protecting her at any moment on everything, and the single day that i don't go with her, this has to happen. just painful. it's so -- you can't really describe how bad it hurts. >> reporter: it has clearly been very tough for her family. the morning of the shooting, keyla salazar spent at home. she was going to the concert later but wanted to show her

on saturday, a day before the shooting. >> the last thing i said to trever is trever, i love you. he said mom, i love you. i'm having a good time. i'll be all right. i'll call you tomorrow. and my call tomorrow never came. [crying] >> that call for me was getting on the plane to come here to bring him home to bury him. >> reporter: the call came from an officer telling her her 25-year-old son had been killed. >> apparently it was at close range. he was behind my son. my son didn't know he was there. they were sitting with their back towards everyone else. >> reporter: holding hands and comforting each other, tammy and timmy williams remember dropping everything and getting on the first flight from new york to the bay area to identify their son. >> so i had to wait for them to come to me with a picture of my

son in the morgue to ask me if it was him. [crying] >> so i had to identify him through a picture, my baby. how could somebody just do that to somebody that never hurt a single soul in his life. >> reporter: his father described trever as his best friend and perfect son. >> you keep talking through this here, it's senseless. there is no reason for stuff like this to happen, for a 19-year-old kid to go in and have a rampage or whatever you want to call this thing that he had, why? >> reporter: questions right now remain unanswered. shaking this family to their core, remembering 25 years ago when they lost their oldest son tyler. >> angels come, they stay a

short while, do their job, go home. because now they are together. it's been 25 years since my first son died, now my son at 25 is gone. >> reporter: with his life many dreams also gone including becoming a father one day, his girlfriend sarah who he consider hs fiancee was with him during the shooting. how do you want trever to be remembered? >> i want people to remember trever as the kinde esest perso you'll ever find. he would never hurt anybody. >> reporter: taking trever's body back home is what the williams family will do next. they will bury him next to his brother and grandma father that died a month ago. in gilroy, luz pena, abc 7 news. >> the first victim identified was the youngest, 6-year-old stehpen romero of san jose.

he was with his mother and grandmother both shot and wounded. one of his cousins spoke about his loss. >> this isn't right especially for such a little boy to pass away like this. the police chief starting this press conference by reassuring those who may still be concerned about a possible second shooter that they now believe the suspect acted alone. >> our investigation is leading us more and more to believe that there was not a second person involved. >> reporter: the chief said they have been able to track the suspect's movement leading up to the shooting including stops at various stores in the area. all video footage shows that the shooter was by himself. the chief also confirmed a bag was found with ammunition by a creek behind the fairgrounds. police are also searched a vehicle connected to the suspect. >> during the search warrant of the car, the shotgun he purchased was located so we've accounted for both of the weapons that we knew he had purchased. >> reporter: for the motive, the fbi said they are still scrubbing social media for leads on possible ideology. >> we have no reason to believe at this point he was targeting any protected characteristics. >> reporter: three veteran police officers engaged and took

down the suspect. they have all been put on administrative leave to heal from the event. the chief says it was only those three officers that fired shots during the incident. >> i think it's a very emotional thing for them. it's one thing to be involved in the shooting but also in the middle of the carnage of the people that were shot and then immediately went into, you know, the rendering aid mode. >> reporter: and the fbi also continuing to remind the public that if they have any information, photos and videos especially that could help in the investigation to upload it to fbi.gov/gilroy. that information iskris reyes. there is still an active investigation going on at three locations, the site of the garlic festival, christmas hill and the suspect's family home and the area where the gunman's car was found on laurel drive. abc 7 news reporter melanie

woodro is live with the latest on the investigation. melanie? >> reporter: yeah, for more than a day now investigators have been processing this scene where the vehicle was found. it's about a mile and a half from the festival and the vehicle has been moved tonight but those investigators are still out here. tonight there is also confusion from those closest to the shooter as to why. new information tonight about his brief time in nevada where he purchased a rifle and lived in the small community of locker lake. deputies searched the home where he stayed. one neighbor remembers seeing him around. >> i used to see him walk up and down the road to the mailbox or lake, stuff like that but never got -- never said hi. might have said hi but never got to know him or anything like that. >> reporter: here in gilroy a man identifying himself as the legion family trainer says his heartbreaks for the victims and also for the family who he says he loves like his own. confusion and unanswered

we continue to wait for the family of gilroy shooting victim keyla salazar to speak. here is a live look at the podium set up for them. >> we'll continue to monitor this and we'll bring it to you live as soon as that news conference happens. abc 7 news i-team dan noyes is on the trail of a case involving two bay area teenagers accused of killing an italian police officer last friday. >> dan has spoken with a family member of 19-year-old finn elder of san francisco. the teen was arrested in 2016 after seriously injuring a teammate from the sacred heart prep football team. >> his uncle says the fight was

a prearranged during a party at stern grove and finn does not have a criminal record. >> dan noyes has been tweeting throughout his investigation and even tweeted a picture of the knife that was used in the deadly attack. >> here is dan's report today from rome. >> the family of 19-year-old finn elder of san francisco said they arranged this solo trip to italy for him hoping he would have a break from a circle of friends. they booked one night at this hotel in room to made 18-year-old gabe natale who was visiting his grandfather. they were 2018 graduates of tam high. newly released documents say elder and natale went to a popular neighborhood with bars and restaurants this past friday looking for cocaine. according to court records, they contacted a local, the man on the bicycle shown in video and he introduced them to a dealer who took their money but when the alleged drug deal went bad, the california teens ran away

with the man on the bicycle's backpack. the backpack owner called police and they listened as they called natale and elder using what's app. at a news conference today the italian police commander said they respond to complaints like this often. people asking for ransom for what they stole and that's what two officers responded in plain clothes. in court records, the surviving police officer states they showed their police i.d. cards and identified themselves as law enforcement. police say gabe natale who spokes italian said he doubted the men were officers and the fight began. natale struck one officer with his fist and they say elder admitted he stabbed the second officer. today the police commander said the surviving officer didn't have time to react, he did not want to shoot the suspects in the back as they reason away. in court documents, the officer andre said he saw his partner mario bleeding abundantly from

his chest before falling on the ground he said they stabbed me. he died from 11 stab wounds later at the hospital. surveillance video shows the fatal encount we are police lasted less than four minutes. someone back at the hotel spotted the teens running back at 3:00 in the morning. from surveillance police were able to track them back to the hotel. room 109 and court documents said they found the murder weapon, a 7-inch u.s. marine style knife drenched in blood hidden behind a ceiling panel. the deceased officer forgot to bring his gun that night and finn elder brought the knife on the plane with him from the u.s. dan noyes, abc 7 news. >> dan has been tweeting extensively during his time in rome. he walked through the exact area where that crime took place. takelook. >> reporter: this is the place where that italian police officer died that night. we're learning today there were four police cars in this area at the time, but they could not

out over the bay, fog returns to the coast and bay overnight. mostly sunny and mild weather for the remainder of the week and a warming trend begins. overnight look for a bit of fog developing along the coast and pushing over the bay and maybe spotty coastal drizzle and overnight lows will be in the mid 50s and tomorrow as we follow the forecast animation, fog develops overnight. it will hoover over the bay and locally inland during the middle of the morning commute tomorrow will burn quickly back to the coast giving us another mainly sunny day much like today and temperatures will range from mid 60s to the costa mid 70s around the bay shoreline, mid and upper 80s will be the rule in our inland areas. while we have nice calm mind weather here in the aabay area, there are hurricanes moving in the direction of hawaii but hawaii isn't expected to take major hit. hurricane eric, the second one following the same track a weaker storm but still, category

one hurricane. both storms are expected to follow a path that will take them about 900 miles south of the big island of hawaii later in the week around thursday or friday. so although these storms are powerful and potentially dangerous at the moment, they stay on the track that we're projecting, they will not deliver any severe weather to hawaii. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. tomorrow will be -- well, tomorrow and thursday actually will be almost identical days with high temperatures mainly in the upper 80s inland, upper 70s around the bay shoreline and low to mid 60s. a slight warmup on friday by a couple degrees but the real warmup, the main event begins over the weekend as inland highs climbing to the mid-90s and gets warmer still on monday. in fact, 96 to 98 inland, not out of the question on monday. mid 80s around the bay and that's our typical late july early august weather. nothing extreme there, just warm

or this one? or this one? the three suspects are wanted in a series of violent assaults july 15th in china town. these images obtained by abc 7 news were taken near the crime scene. he was one of two attacked crossing the street at stockton near pacific. this security camera video shows the three suspects about to cross the street perhaps just moments before the assault. >> the three do appear to be talking and walking quickly with some purpose as if they have a destination or something in mind. >> this still taken by a witness shows the first victim of china town community leader lying unconscious just after he was attacked by the assailants who stole his gold rolex watch. this video shows a second victim being punched and knocked to the ground as he ran to rescue his friend. police investigators hoped the security stills and video would

>> reporter: we're live between a hotel and church parking lot. you can see the two blue dumpsters where police say they found two newborn infants around 4:00 this afternoon. take a look. sky 7 has been overhead this scene this evening. i'm told by police i just spoke to tha an ofcer erted, at there we babies in the area. he came and saw these two newborn infants very new unclear at the time, but likely had just been born on the ground and then someone else alerted them that the mother may be nearby so just around the corner on the sidewalk they found a woman who i'm told based on her description and the way she looks had clearly just given birth. she is now been taken to a hospital, but has also been detained while police continue to investigate what exactly happened here. this is of course a still developing story and as soon as

the ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland. the jury may begin dell li b tomorrow. the defense have taken place and we're wrapping up the closing arguments. abc 7 leslie brinkley was in the courtroom today. >> the way i view it now, we're neck and neck. >> ghost ship founder derick almena's attorney said today goes ship was a jewel in a coal mine. it was so beautiful he said, no one wanted to enforce the fire code. he argued the fire department lied and purgered themselves to protect the city from lawsuits and claimed they made derick almena a scapegoat. it's an unprecedented case. each of the two defendants facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the fateful december 2016 fire in an oakland warehouse. max harris' attorney curtis briggs argued there is reasonable doubt in the case.
