tonight. amanda? >> dan, ama, in the crowd of thousands tonight stories of heroism and heartache. this is another step in the healing process for a city shattered sunday night. only days after sunday's devastation, downtown gilroy was filled with thousands. in the crowd, supporter, survivors and clear signs of strength. residents here ready to heal and reclaim their sense of security. >> i think in a bad situation, i think it went the best it could. >> out of an abundance of caution thursday, gilroy pd oneg businesses are offering support to families of those who were killed. >> we thought it would be appropriate that we donate 100% of the sales to the families and the affected victims. >> relief efforts reflective of the spirit of gilroy. in posters held above the crowd, pictures of 6-year-old stephen romero, 13-year-old keyla salazar and 25-year-old trevor irby. in the crowd, many others whose

lives were spared. >> there were a lot of angels that day. >> angels like 10-year-old miranda, credited with saving a 3-year-old boy whose parents were shot. >> i just grabbed him and covered his mouth because of course he was crying and screaming because he was -- he didn't know what to do. >> miranda's quick response was guided by the active shooter drill she's learned at school. thousands gathered thursday, the tough 10-year-old is continuing to work through the tragedy. >> it's still hard for me to just process of everything that's happening and what happened to people, innocent people that didn't do anything or didn't deserve that. >> it's hard not to hurt after hearing her, but mental health agencies want to help in that healing process. we have resources listed on our website. experts want to keep the conversation going to keep gilroy strong. in gilroy, i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> thank you. two survivors of sunday's shooting are sharing their

stories tonight. >> brenna matthews and gab g go were hit by bullets. brynn took a bullet straight in her back. >> i'm going to have a bullet in my liver for my whole life. i'm not going to be able to see it or fail it at a certain point, but it's always going to be there. >> i was rung and i felt like i got pinched or burnt, bee sting type thing. and i remember being like i'm hit, but i didn't look back. i didn't stop running. >> also, gilroy police chief revealed the names of the three officers who rushed into the gunfire and fatally shot the suspect. >> they are eric cryer, a 23-year-old veteran, hugo delmore ral and robert basuino. >> all three of these officers are incredibly humble. i think they're heroes. i don't think they view themselves that way. i think they view themselves that they were just doing their job. >> the fbi behavioral

analysis of the gunman to determine a motive for the shooting. >> the gilroy police department meantime says it is postponing next tuesday's national night out celebration out of respect for the community's grieving process. it will be rescheduled for october 1. the gilroy foundation has established a special fund for victims of sunday's shooting. we have a link on our website on how to donate to the gilroy garlic festival victims relief fund. >> and security is heightened at bay area festivals in light of what happened on sunday. saturday will be the opening of fremont's festival of the arts. >> abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more on the additions and whether fear is stopping people from attending. finishing touches for this weekend's festival of the arts in fremont also includes security plans. >> we have pretty much an unprecedented level of security at our festival. sky 7hereecit l's director

cameras were installed on paseo padre parkway today, and soon steel barricades and a police watchtower will go up. because of a shooting at the garlic festival, security is even tighter. >> the police in response to that have also added on uniformed s.w.a.t. team members that will be in the crowds. they've changed their level of firearms that they'll be carrying, and they'll just be more police officers out there. >> i wouldn't expect it to happen again. i guess it was a one-time thing. >> festival goers have mixed reactions to attending. this woman isn't sure if she wants to take her family. >> it being so close, i think it just changes -- it makes you definitely more aware of what you have to do. >> a lot of preparation taking place until the festival opens on saturday. this is its 36th year. there will be 380,000 people attending and one thousand vendors. humberto morales was one of them. he was shot at the garlic festival but wasn't hurt. he'll be at fremont though he is

still shaken. >> you'll be safe, but you still have in the back of your mind, what if, what if somebody slips through the lines of security. what if this, what if that? >> he considers fremont festival the safest around. in fremont, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. and other bay area events are also tightening security. thursday was opening day at the santa clara fair in san jose. law enforcement is patrolling the entrance, and then there is a security checkpoint just after the ticket gate. once inside, there is even more law enforcement patrolling the fairgrounds. there are also similar upgraded security measures at the sonoma county fair, which also opened today. and a sonoma county sheriff's deputy shot a man after he attempted to stab a security guard at the santa rosa plaza. it happened just after 5:30 p.m. the suspect took off from the mall and was found by deputies nearby at ninth a morgan street. th altercation ensued. the man somehow got inside the deputy's patrol vehicle. the deputy fired his weapon, hit the man three times.

he was arrest and taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. san jose police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old child in an alley. police arrested 43-year-old kashman hill yesterday afternoon. a person called police saying they saw hill lure the child into an alley on the 100 block of north fourth street. officers arrived within minutes of the report and arrested him. he faces three counts of lewd act with a minor and is currently in the santa clara county jail tonight. in the east bay today, the jury for the ghost ship trial completed its first full day of deliberations with no decisions. the ghost ship founder derick almena and self-described creative director max harris are each charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. the jury will resume deliberations tuesday morning. as soon as the jury reaches a decision we will send an alert. as part of our effort to building a better bay area, we are spending this week looking into the housing crisis, everything from the high prices we pay to some of the more

sacramento police officer tar row o'sullivan. she was killed in june while responding to a domestic disturbance in sacramento. her family met with 49ers players and coaches after practice at levi's stadium. at the end, the entire team signed a flag honoring first responders as a gift to the family. robert f. kennedy's granddaughter saoirse kennedy hill was found dead at the kennedy compound in hyannis port. "the new york times" reports it was the result of an apparent overdose. 22-year-old kennedy hill was the daughter of courtney kennedy hill, one of the 11 children of the late presidential candidate. a small plane made a hard landing in nevada this sky 7 was overhead where the plane was spotted just after the juries. the cessna sustained substantial damage. all right. this is a story going viral on social media. a woman was out for a walk on n cougar was following her. >> scary, right?
