devastation, downtown gilroy was filled with thousands. in the crowd, supporter, clsee of secitad thk itesf an abundance of caution thursday, gilroy pd combed through the crowd. along monterey road, surrounding businesses are offering support to families of those who were killed. >> we thought it would be appropriate that we donate 100% of the sales to the families and the affected victims. >> relief efforts reflective of the spirit of gilroy. in posters held above the crowd, pictures of 6-year-old stephen romero, 13-year-old keyla salazar and 25-year-old trevor irby. in the crowd, many others whose. >> there were a lot of angels that day. >> angels like 10-year-old miranda, credited with saving a 3-year-old boy whose reaming beuse he w -- he ill she's learned at school.

e entrance, and then there is tn a security checkpoint just after the ticket gate. once inside, there is even more law enforcement patrolling the fairgrounds. there are also similar upgraded security measures at the sonoma county fair, which also opened today. and a sonoma county sheriff's deputy shot a man after he attempted to stab a security guard at the santa rosa plaza. it happened just after 5:30 p.m. the suspect took off from the mall and was found by deputies nearby at ninth and morgan somehow got inside the deputy's patrol vehicle. the deputy fired his weapon, hit the man three times. he was arrest and taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. san jose police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old child in an alley. police arrested 43-year-old kashman hill yesterday afternoon. a person called police saying they saw hill lure the child into an alley on the 100 block

of north fourth street. officers arrived within minutes of the report and arrested him. he faces three counts of lewd act with a minor and is currently in the santa clara county jail tonight. in the east bay today, the jury for the ghost ship trial completed its first full day of deliberations with no decisions. the ghost ship founder derick almena and self-described creative director max harris are each charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. the jury will resume deliberations tuesday morning. as soon as the jury reaches a decision we will send an alert. as part of our effort to building a better bay area, we are spending this week looking into the housing crisis, everything from the high prices we pay to some of the more inventive ways people are choosing to live in san francisco. >> but how did we even get to this point to begin with? abc7 news reporter liz kreutz is going back in time and breaking down the numbers to show how and why things have changed. >> all right. we all know home prices in the bay area are out of control. but obviously, it wasn't always
