world is a little less beautiful today. saoirse's death comes after the late senator kennedy's car plunged off a bridge killing his 28-year-old passenger. >> so glad to see you all again, and welcome to hyannis port. >> reporter: for years, the kennedys used the compound as their retreat. john f. kennedy famously vacationing there with his family, using it as a base for his 1960 presidential campaign, and later as a summer white house. saoirse kennedy hill was a member of the boston college class of 2020. her family says she found great joy in volunteer work, especially when she helped to build schools in mexico. another story breaking overnight. word that thousands of americans could be heading home from afghanistan. up to 6,000 u.s. troops may be withdrawn according to "the would leave about 8,000 troops in afghanistan. that's nearly the same number as when president trump took office. the top commander of the navy s.e.a.l.s is sending a

blunt message. we have a problem. in a new letter, rear admiral collin green says discipline problems must be addressed immediately. it follows several incidents in which navy s.e.a.l.s were accused of sexual assault and using alcohol and drugs. more disturbing headlines from the military. the air force says it will pause operations for one day to address a suicide crisis. 78 air force members have committed suicide this year. that's nearly 30 more than at this point last year. we turn now to the trade war with china, and president trump threatening even more tariffs. last night, he held his first campaign rally since a racist chant erupted among his supporters last month. he told the crowd in cincinnati until there is a deal with china, the u.s. will, quote, be taxing the hell out of china. abc's megan tevrizian is here with what these tariffs could mean for consumers.morning, ll.

these tariffs could be expected to start less than a w you pay for your kids' toys, a new television and the price of a new cell phone. the president touting his new trade policies at a rally in cincinnati overnight. >> we have taken the toughest ever action to stand up to china's trade abuse. >> reporter: president trump now slapping a new 10% tariff on $300 billion worth of chinese products starting in september. >> for the last 20 years, china's taken hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars out of our country, and now we're stopping the theft of american jobs. >> reporter: but the tariffs mean american shoppers could see prices go up on everything from clothing to smartphones to tvs to toys. the chamber of commerce saying the president's move will inflict great pain on american businesses, farmers, workers and consumers and undermine an otherwise strong u.s. economy. the tariffs affecting wall street too. the dow plunged thursday, closing down 280 points. >> who wilnobe

third weapons test in just a week. officials in south korea believe two short range ballistic missiles were fired into the sea. the north has been frustrated over stalled nuclear talks and upcoming military drills between the u.s. and south korea. the u.s. is playing down the launches saying it won't stop them from negotiating with jong-un. a wild emergency landing caught on camera. a state trooper's dashcam showing a plane approaching a highway. turning his car around, blocking traffic. the plane drifted to the ground. the pilot landing safely, and even stopping the plane at a red light. the plane had apparently suffered a fuel system malfunction. and in los angeles overnight, emergency responders descended on this parking garag barrier and dangled off the edge of the building from four stories up. paramedics rescued the driver who they say had a medical emergency just before the crash. time to look at your weather this friday.
