now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> and that breaking news is in contra costa county. cal fire says firefighters are at the scene of multiple vegetation fires in clayton. an estimated 500 acres are burning on the north side of marsh creek road. a shelter in place is in effect between morgan territory road and deer valley. "abc 7 news" reporter cornell barnard is live at the scene. what does it look like out there now? >> reporter: it looks pretty smoky right now, kumasi. i want to take you up here to the hill. a scary morning for resident, a very busy morning for firefighters here in the clayton area. a wildfire, as you can see, burning right now off of marsh creek road. firefighters are on the hill. can you see them? there are a lot of them, from the bottom to the very, very
8:01 am
top. they are fighting this fire. they are cutting lines, doing some pretty good work according to the cal fire folks that we just talked to, trying to get a handle on this fire that is now burning to the east. cal fire says, believe it or not, this is one of 10 to 12 fires now burning in this area. how much has burned? cal fire tells us about 500 acres. this started several hours ago between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. here in the clayton area. as i said, up to 10 to 12 fires burning between here, marsh creek road, down to morgan terpt road, even down to deer valley road. now, a mobile home park is down in that area. it was evacuated for a time. folks have now been allowed, according to cal fire, to return. everyone else including the ranch here that is at the bottom
8:02 am
of the hill where the flames are happening have been told to shelter in place. so far no evacuations. the good news is no structures have been burned. we just talked to cal fire moments ago. here is what a representative had to say. listen to this. >> there's multiple fires on morgan territory road. there's multiple fires on marsh creek road. i am only aware of this fire that i am assigned to. it is about 250 acres. it is about 10% contained, and all of the other fires i'm not sure what the containment status is. >> reporter: and as far as how these fires started, any idea? >> no, i just know there's multiple fires. no idea how they started. >> reporter: how is it going so far as far as the firefighting? >> well, the weather is cooperating. it is not as windy as it could be here, so that's helping. but we still have 12 fires, so it is going to be a challenge. >> reporter: yes, a challenge for sure. there are bulldozers at the very top of the hill. it is unclear how they got there, possibly on the backside
8:03 am
of here near morgan territory road. but they are not taking any chances. they are throwing all of the resources they can at this fire. believe it or not, there is a cal fire station a quarter mile from here. that is, of course, the good news. as i said, residents being told to shelter in place as this fire, one of many fires, continues to burn. this fire you are looking at has burned 250 acres as the cal fire representative just told us. other fires are still burning. i drove through here within the last 45 minutes. there are fires burning on either side of mortgage material road but there are firefighters all over the area. they are trying to get a handle on this. so far it seems to be working. as the firefighter said, the weather seems to be cooperating. very light winds and the temperatures are relatively cool. that is the latest from the clayton area. i'm cornell barnard, "abc 7 news." >> thank you, cornell. he mentioned how scary it was
8:04 am
for some of the residents. a lot woke up to smell of smoke, others to an order to evacuate. mark sent us this picture of what he saw. he had to evacuate his mobile home around 4:30 this morning. nita sent us this photo. she lives in clayton, and she talked with us about what she saw when she woke up. >> we were sleeping and the dog woke us up crying. i took the dog outside and then you could totally smell just that heavy smell of smoke, and i kind of looked up, and over thee horizon you could just see the orange glow. it is too close. it is kind of sporadic farmland, but we do have neighbors. actually, as i was outside with the dog, as we were kind of looking up at the glow, our neighbor drove by right then on his truck and kind of yesterday out the window, "we got a fire pretty near." and so my husband actually went
8:05 am
with him to go check on the livestock, make sure everything is okay. the fire has reached the neighbor's cow pond. right now we are just waiting for directions from the authorities basically. i did receive an alert on the phone saying there's a shelter in place in clayton, and as of yet there's no evacuation. so we're just indoors, waiting. we have everything ready though if we need to evacuate and if we need to get the animals out, will be my only concern. there's actually been a couple of fires in this area since we have lived here. we have been here for about going on four years. i do know the firefighters are working very hard. they're already there on the other side of it, and they do have the bulldozers going. so they are -- they are working on it. >> now, nita told us she has packed up if she has to evacuate, mark, and others who were evacuated from the mobile home park on marsh creek road,
8:06 am
they were able to get back to their homes around 6:30 this morning. lisa is joining us with our forecast. lisa, it was a relief to hear the firefighter say the weather is cooperating with us as we try to battle these flames. >> that's right. coolest temperatures right around now with upper 50s to near 60. the winds are relatively light out of the south and that relative humidity is pretty high at about 77%. but as we go through the day, the relative humidity drops, the temperatures climbing right on through the 90s, and we should gain anywhere from two to three degrees as we pass 9:00, each and every hour. it is going to warm up quickly, a lot like yesterday, and winds around the vicinity have been light except as you get towards the delta where we have the funneling. you will notice the winds here up to 14 miles per hour out of the southwest. everywhere else it is light. a look at live doppler 7 with the low clouds and fog. three-quarter mile vesibility at the coast. look at that low cloud deck. isn't it a cool picture with the

"abc 7 news" spoke with john perales, a gilroy resident who was flagged down by multiple shooting victims. perales drove those victims to the hospital. "abc 7 news" reporter luz pena has his story. >> i went to make a u-turn here and i did this, and they were right there. right there by that sign. >> reporter: what did they tell you? >> well, i kept going a little bit like this. i rolled my window down and i

8:09 am
we didn't ever look back. >> reporter: john is thankful he made that u-turn, in the right place and at the right time. so do you consider yourself a hero? >> far from it. i think those folks that are going home to an empty house, empty beds, empty dreams, i think they're the true heroes that are going to have to continue to live life without their loved ones. >> reporter: and our hearts go out to those families who lost their loved one. perales hopes to reunite with the victims he helped. he said he wants to do everything different, he wants to introduce them to his family, laugh and break bread. in gilroy, luz pena, "abc 7 news." donations have been pouring in from around the country for shooting victims. the gilroy garlic festival victims relief fund has raised more than $500,000. the money can be used for funeral expenses, hospital bills, wages for lost income. the executive director of the fund says within 24 hours of setting it up hundreds of donations came in.

8:51 am
the marine layer is going nowhere for the next several days, it will stay with us and after tomorrow grow taller and spread out a little bit. that will help us with the firefighting efforts and even mist and drizzle arriving along the shoreline throughout parts of the morning hours. it is in the upper 60s out by clayton right now. the relative humidity is dropping into about the 75% region right now, but by the delta we get the funneling effect. here is the strongest winds, up to 14 miles per hour. out towards brentwod and clayton it is 5 miles out of the south. you could be getting patchy smoke from eastern contra costa county. otherwise it is sunny. as we look towards alcatraz you can see it will be a beautiful day here downtown. 56 right now. it is 61 in redwood city. morgan hill, 64. on the coast, in the 50s. a lot of gray skies still in santa cruz where temperatures in the north bay are in the upper 50s. napa is at 60.

petaluma, 62. mid 60s and upper 60s for concord, so the numbers coming up several degrees per hour. we will make it another 30 degrees of warming here, so that's why we're gaining two to maybe four degrees each hour in our inland east bay. the hottest time of the year upon us right now. compared to yesterday, we are a little bit warmer, not much though, from concord to livermore today. today is the warmest day out of the next seven. 86 today in san jose. look for 83 in milpitas. on the peninsula, upper 70s, san ma may toe. 82 for redwood city. 70 in san francisco. patchy clouds at the coast and in the north bay look for 90s from santa rosa. 86 in napa. comfortable in the 70s for you in berkley, richmond, el cerrito. 80 in castro valley. heading inland, low 90 in san ramon and about 90 in pittsburg,

but head further east and we are coming up five to seven degrees. 59 in san mateo with the patchy fog. in the accuweather seven-day forecast, of 0s coast. 80s around the bay. maybe a 40-degree spread at times with mid 90s inland. download the accuweather app. stronger on-shore flow tomorrow but the inland communities will begin to knnotice the change by late monday into tuesday, and temperatures below average wednesday, thursday and friday. we are doing better this summer compared to last summer, but we'll have to hopefully see -- hope that those firefighters get a handle on all of those fires out there. >> yes, they say it is cooperating now, but, as you say, the temperatures warm
