24-year-old connor betts is accused of opening fire in the downtown district killing nine people including his sister and injuring 27 others. surveillance video shows people running for their lives and police engaging the suspect. authorities say the gunman was shot down in 30 seconds, the president weighing in on the back-to-back tragedies. >> these are two incredible places. we love the people. >> reporter: the grandparents of the el paso shooter speaking through a neighbor say they are devastated and praying for the victims. that shooter was living with his grandparents, but moved out of their home six weeks ago. reporting from el paso, megan tevrizian, abc 7 news. >> thank you, megan. in dayton, information about the shooting victims slowly emerging this morning. hundreds of people remembered them in a vigil last night. many were horrified by what they saw unfold as the gunman opened

>> reporter: good morning guys. the security company cloud fair says at midnight it cut 8chat chan from the networks. the rationale is simple, 8 clete chan is proven to be lawless and lawlessness has led to multiple deaths. chief executive matthew prince says the el paso shooter appears to have been inspired by the unmoderated discussions on 8chan which glorified previous massacres. in a writes that 8 clete chan has proven to be a cesspool of hate. we draw the lines at platforms that demonstrate they directly inspire tragic events and are lawless by design. many argue when a company kicks off websites that allegedly promotes violence it denies the freedom of speech guaranteed by the first amendment. prince says the first amendment does not obligate them to do business with everyone. 8chan executives -- cloud fair executives say they know 8charn

can reemerge. they'll work with governments around the world with tougher rules to regulate content. anser hassan, abc 7 news. people impacted by the deadly gilroy garlic shooting are reacting to the two mass shootings over the weekend. that happened one week after their own. a birthday party was held yesterday in san jose for keyla salazar. she would have turned 14 years old. a 25 man from new york and 6-year-old boy from san jose were also killed. those affected call the deaths here and elsewhere senseless. at the family assistance center at rutger elementary school in gilroy, more than 500 people have sought help to deal with psychological trauma. we have information on how you can donate to the victims in el paso and dayton on our website, abc7news.com. also new this morning.

two men are back on the ground after climbing a construction crane in san jose. police say the men climbed this crane sometime before 1:30 this morning on east sclera street near haiti hall. nearby sheets had to be shut down while police worked to bring the men down. one of the men was taken to jail on an outstanding arrest warrant. 18-year-old deondre gant faces a charge of attempted murder for the july 2nd shooting. two teens were wounded. gant was arrested by martinez police after a chase involving a stolen vehicle. two other suspects have been arrested including a 16-year-old and 14-year-old. gant remains in custody with bail set at $5 million. fran police officers are cracking down on drivers who put cyclists and pedestrians at risk. officers will ticket drivers who speed, make illegal turns and

fail to stop at stop signs and red lights. a crash on taylor street last month killed a pedestrian and hurt his wife. the driver sped through a red light. city officials want to eliminate all traffic deaths in san francisco by 2024. today's traffic safety enforcement operation is part of that effort. this is what we're dealing with, pretty much the same type of weather this morning. you didn't miss anything. in the upper 50s around pacifica, half moon bay, menlo park. 56 in daly city. you can see around 60 to 62 degrees for the rest of the peninsula where we have patchy drizzle, especially higher elevations. the east bay shoreline 60 to 61, down to 62 in san jose. you're the exception. everybody else in the low to mid 50s as you head north from concord and antioch. you can see mid to upper 50s in the north bay. here is a look at what's going

alive. the justice department says they are treating the attack as an act of domestic terrorism. early sunday morning in dayton, ohio, we woke up to find out a gunman killed nine people. 27 more were hurt. officials killed the shooter in that case. this morning we're learning more about the el paso and dayton gunman. >> the grandparents of the man arrested for the el paso shooting released a statement read by a neighbor. >> patrick crusius lived with us in our house in allen, texas. >> in dayton, former classmates of shooter connor betts are coming forward. police say there was nothing in his background to prevent him from buying the gun he used in the attack. two former classmates told the associated press he was suspended after a hit list was found at school. lawmakers and the president are voicing their concerns. >> president trump tweeted this

morning, we cannot let those killed in el paso and dayton die in vain. he's calling on republicans and democrats to come together and get strong background checks. he even suggested marrying this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform. abc 7 news reporter mona kosar abdi is live in washington with the details. >> good morning, kumasi and reggie. democrats are pressuring senate majority lead are mitch mcconnell to cancel the senate recess to vote on a universal background check bill. that's the legislation that president trump this morning suggested lawmakers can marry with immigration reform. president trump offering full federal support in the wake of two deadly mass shootings that left 29 dead and about 50 people injured in less than 24 hours. >> hate has no place in our country, and we're going to take care of it. >> reporter: lawmakers also flooding social media with thoughts and prayers, and on the campaign trail, 2020 democratic candidates reeling from the
