trucks here in town, but this is just a drill. pg&e is definitely ramping up for wildfire season. just yesterday the utility hosted tours of its upgraded wildfire operations center in san francisco. this is where they evaluate whether to shutdown power when weather conditions present a possible fire threat. new features include a 24-hour, seven day a week >> the unwavering focus is on the safety of our customers, and they are our friends, our families and our neighbors. >> reporter: here are the signs that would cause pg&e to shutdown the power. a red flag warning, conditions of low humidity levels, a

texas, and officials say the gunman allegedly cased the store looking for mexicans to kill before he came back and unleashed a barrage of gunfire. in dayton, ohio, police say the gunman killed nine people. if the magazine he used was full it could have held up to 250 rounds. investigators say it does not appear the gunmangunmangunmangun anybody. 22-year-old megan bets was the youngest of those killed and she was the sister of the suspected shooter. more than 100 people gathered to remember her life. >> megan was the brightest person in the room no matter where she was. >> she was so nice to me, and we

were so close. >> her boyfriend was also injured in the shooting and it's unclear if the gunman was targeting them. happening today, we're expected to learn new details about the gilroy garlic festival shooting. officials say they are still collecting evidence from the scene. police have had difficulty finding all the bullets while combing through akecres of land. the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. >> one family held a celebration of life on sunday which would have been her 14th birthday. her family said she was excited to start high school in a few weeks and could make conversation with anybody and was always smiling. a group of parents are calling for strong gun safety laws.

one person there was a survivor from a tragic shooting just last year. >> there was anguish and anger at the rally, and it was organized by a grass moms. they went out shopping. i don't know how many people have to lay in the ground before we do something. >> liz russell survived a shooting last year, a gunman who was dismissed from a treatment program killed three employees. >> i was there that day and it was just one more tragic reminder that gun violence is too prevalent in this country.

fresno, 104. palm springs down from 117 to 111 today. this is the way it looks this weekend when we finely get the cooling trend this week, so does the sierra. 71 on friday and 68 on saturday. 76 with sunshine and calmer conditions on sunday. the biggest chain of recycling centers closed all their centers, including in san francisco, and alameda and san jose. they closed yesterday leaving 750 people without jobs. the company spokesperson said it has become too expensive to operate both centers. disappointing news for the fans of one festival. organizers say last year's relocation was a massive undertaking and they say they can't put on an event that meets

their fans expectations given the challenges of that site. abc7 news is committed to building a better bay area and in april we told you about the parking problems at the oakland zoo, and they are encouraging guests to use public transportation, ride hailing services or get there early in the morning or late in the afternoon for a better chance of finding a coveted spot. this is an animal story. in the south bay, a long-time resident is looking for a place to roost. a peacock has to be moved. there's a conflict with neighbors, as explained. >> reporter: the outskirts of downtown san jose is home to a bird that comes and goes on his ownvid marcum has gotten familir with the peacock.

yesterday you will like today. i pushed this down a day or two later, so the tropical storm remnants are still here, but the high pressure pumping up some of the warm air. down in the south bay we are reaching 90 in gilroy and 88 in los gatos. low 80s around that. 72 in santa cruz. mid to upper 70s on the peninsula today. low to mid-60s along the coast. 79 in san rafael. the 90s, ukiah and then the 90s are back in our east bay valleys, low to upper 90s. tonight we will fall back in the low 50s and 60s again. by the time we get to friday -- thursday, friday and saturday will be the coolest days and then it gets hot on monday.

we just got word the signal alert has been canceled at northbound 101 and 380, so good news for drivers there. somebody will take you to the area there, you can seat purple line, that should turn green at any moment here. to catch you up to speed on everything, four cars here including a big rig. the signal alert has been canceled so you can be good to go if you need to ride through that area. in the east bay we still have a signal alert in san leandro, the chp is trying to figure out what caused that deadly crash. the female driver was the only one in the van and chp is trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. the off-ramp is still closed. facebook has removed that viral post that invited people to raid area 51. >> the japanese electronics
