including san francisco. the call this is morning to boycott soulcycle and equinox after reports their owner is fund-raising for president trump. also lyft getting more expensive. the reason your ride is going to cost you more. good morning on this busy thursday morning. it's august 8th. thanks for being here. >> a lot going on. glad you're up with us. let's get right to meteorologist mike nicco for a check of the weather. good morning everybody. a look at live doppler 7. clouds are not as expensive as yesterday as dry air moved in during the overnight hours. you can see the broken deck of clouds, the jellyfish clouds out there this morning. it makes for a gorgeous sunrise. here is a look at the 12-hour planner. temps in the mid to upper 50s this morning. notice a lot more sunshine and breezy conditions and temperatures dropping down below average, even more so than yesterday. 71 to 75, sunny and breezy at noon. below average, 73 to 80. beating the heat at 4:00. 60s and 70s by 7:00. we'll have more on a chance of

showers this weekend coming up. here is frances. >> hi, mike, we're going to live sky 7. we have a traffic alert in south san jose. we have this live shot of northbound 101 just before highway 85 with a fatal accident. four cars involved. you can see they have one of the cars on the tow truck. only one right lane getting by. delays have been growing very quickly this morning. it is backed up almost nine to ten miles on northbound 101 causing about an hour and a half drive time delays. as you'll notice, we'll turn on the sky 7 map -- sky map on sky 7, monterey road is also backed up. still a better alternate. the monterey road drive time is 53 minutes. santa teresa, another alternate, that drive time is 44 minutes. that still beats the hour and a half drive on northbound 101. chp hopes to reopen lanes by 7:30 or 8:30 so the backup will be out there

for a while. you may want to also consider caltrain getting out of gilroy and morgan hill this morning. amy hollyfield is live at the scene and also brings us some more information. >> reporter: good morning. you can see behind me one lane is open. that is it. that's all that's getting by. they still have quite a mess here to clean up. the fires are out. it was quite a sight when they were burning. four cars were on fire. it's pretty rare to have one car catch fire in a crash. four is very unique. they haven't said what caused this accident. >> i've never witnessed anything like this. these things are on fire, they're burning. >> reporter: this is northbound 101 in san jose, north of bailey avenue and south of state highway 85.

one person was killed. two people were taken to the hospital. a fourth person involved is okay. tow trucks are here right now to pull those burned shells of cars off the road. they still think they have a few hours to go before they can get this cleared up and reopened. live in san jose, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. this morning there's growing backlash between seoul soulcycle and equinox. >> abc 7 news reporter liz kreutz is live this morning. >> reporter: good morning. the first class started here at this soulcycle. we saw several people going inside. i spoke to three different people, two told me they do plan to reconsider taking classes here. they'll probably go somewhere else. one person told me he will continue taking classes here, but he plans compensate by

donating to causes he cares about. likewise, some bay area employees of soulcycle say they plan to donate the money they make this weekend to democratic causes and candidates. this is all happening after reports surfaced that the owner of soulcycle and eke new york city stephen ross is hosting a fund-raiser for president trump's re-election campaign at his home in the hamptons. president trump is planning to attend. this sparked protests and calls for boycotts at soulcycles in san francisco. >> i certainly don't want to support donald trump in any way, even if it's indirectly. >> there's fly wheel, other companies that do just as good a job as soulcycle. i'll give them my money instead. >> reporter: soulcycle and equinox both released statements saying they have nothing to do with this fund-raiser and no company profits go towards supporting any political candidates. stephen ross released a

statement saying he has been friends with president trump for 40 years and he will continue to support candidates on both sides of the aisle who address the issues he cares about. live in larkspur, liz kreutz, abc 7 news. now we turn to the mass shootings that devastated dayton, ohio and el paso, texas. today an ohio school board will decide whether to release the dayton shooter's student records. former classmates say he was suspended from high school for compiling a kill and rape list. we're learning the el paso shooter's mom previously called police. she was concerned about her son owning an ak firearm. according to the family's lawyer, a public safety officer told her he was legally able to purchase it. employees at corporate walmart offices in san bruno and other cities are calling for the company to stop selling guns. this is video of a walkout in san bruno yesterday. it comes after the shooting in el paso on saturday. two walmart employees were killed last week at a

mississippi store. >> we're simply tired of living in a country where we're fearing for our lives. it truly breaks my heart that people are walking into stores of ours and they're afraid. >> sbs 7 news reached out to walmart for a response. we have not heard back. in a linkedin post, ceo doug mcmillan promised to respond to the shootings in a, quote, thoughtful and positive way. people in san francisco held an anti racism vigil to show support for the el paso victims. abc 7 was at the event at the b.a.r.t. station in the mission district. the protesters want officials to denounce white supremacist violence. in the east bay, a full house in hayward, the city hall for a town hall meeting on gun violence hosted by congressman eric swalwell. for nearly two hours the crowd was full of concern over gun violence in the country. they were conflicted over solutions. >> i want us to look at what is the root cause of gun violence.

i think that's the rooted, before talking about assault rifles. >> don't attack this from a gun issue. attack this from a mental healt to do. overwhelmingly they support background checks and assault weapons bans. it's just getting a congress that will do it. >> congressman swalwell said one of the reasons he called for the town hall is because with 44% of his constituents born outside of the u.s., he says many of them feel targeted. new developments involving a san francisco restaurant that suddenly closed last month. the chronicle report that tosca cafe will reopen with new owners. they plan to keep the name and will upgrade the restaurant's interior. the current ownership group has been dealing with sexual harassment allegations against one of the restaurant's main owners. one north bay community wants to prevent devastating floods. the solution is going to cost residents. one solution to the bay area's housing crisis, free housing where students are now

thursday, about 11 minutes after 6:00. there's the mid to upper 50s around san francisco we just talked about. that's pretty much what we have everywhere except for union city at 61, pittsburg at 63, tracy 60. 51 in healdsburg right now. a look at the cloud deck over the golden gate bridge and a lighter breeze out of the northwest at about ten miles per hour. that introduced drier air and cooler than average weather. brighter along our beaches and small craft advisory north of the bay bridge this afternoon. east bay valleys in the 60s through 9:00, 70s through 11:00. low to mid 80s this afternoon. peninsula, we're in the 60s through 9:00. total sunshine, mid 70s this afternoon. high clouds and sunshine, 69 at 7:00. in the south bay, 50s at 7:00, nearing 70 at 11:00, upper 70s with sunshine this afternoon. here is frances. mike, we're following this

traffic alert in south san jose, northbound 101 before highway 85. sky 7 is live over the scene. only one right lane getting by. five lanes blocked. it's causing an hour and 45 minute delay. that's growing. the backup has grown to about ten miles. monterey road is an alternate for you and probably a better bet, even though that drive time is also about an hour. also we have a new crash reported southbound 880 in hayward at a street. another accident westbound 24 as you make your way to the caldecottment we'll keep you posted on the fatal crash, northbound 101 at highway 85, the spot to avoid this morning. in the north bay, neighbors in the rozsivally will soon pay a 3% increase to help fun fun fn projects. it will provide an annual $73,000 in annual revenue. the rozsivally area of marin has

cooler in millbrae, as usual, 68. 61 to 63 along the peninsular coast with more sunshine than yesterday. 64 to 67 downtown, south san francisco, sausalito. low 60s, a little breezy. sunny this afternoon along the north bay coast. mid 70s to mid 80s, 76 to 83 through most of the north bay valleys. 689 in berkeley. jump up to hercules at 75 for the warm spot. no need for the air conditioner in the east bay valleys. tonight we fall back into the low 50s to about 60 degrees. here is an area of low pressure that's going to steer some moisture our way. as it does, we'll have a chance at showers across the north bay and a chance of drizzle in the morning all the way down the peninsulal coast. showers could dip down into northern sonoma and napa county. the heat begins sunday. we're following a fatal

crash in south san jose, traffic alert, northbound 101 before highway 85. it's going to be out there for a whilfo care on ne fatal crash, northbound 101 backed up for miles. about ten miles now, into morgan hill, causing one hour and 45 minute delays on north 101. sky map 7, you can see monterey road, that has two lanes on it. that is backed up as well. that's going to tak hour. so it will still save you some time, but folks getting out of morgan hill are going to see massive delays heading into san jose this morning. you may want to consider caltrain as well. that is fine right now, leaving morgan hill and leaving gilroy. we've been keeping you posted on this big mess all morning. that's the hot spot to avoid as you make your way towards san jose. also, a new crash reported, westbound 237 at matilda, traffic is slowing approaching the scene. in hayward, injury accident on

minutes away from my accuweather forecast. hey, mike. >> even though you can't see the force, you have to believe in the force. let's take a look at what's going on. we have winds, 18 at sfo, 20 at concord, 29 at fairfield. a nice stiff sea breeze, bringing in drier air. no fog or mist or drizzle this morning. 56 as we look south on 101. mid to upper 50s through 7:00, increasing clouds. but then they quickly pull back to the coast. 61 at noon, the rest of us, 71 to 73. 73 to 80, well below average for the rest of us. 60 to near 70, a comfortable evening on the way. following this traffic alert on northbound 101 before highway 85. we have sky 7 live over the scene. the fatal accident happened around 3:30 this morning. all lanes blocked except for the right lane. they're not expecting to reopen lanes until 7:30 or 8:30 this

morning. sky 7 zooms out. what you'll notice is a big traffic jam on northbound 101. that has grown. the backup is about ten miles right now out of morgan hill. it will take you almost two hours, if not a little more on northbound 101. with sky map 7 on sky 7, you'll notice the alternate route, monterey road is also backed up. that will save you some time, but folks getting out of morgan hill this morning are probably going to need to plan an extra hour for their compute into san jose. just a mess on northbound 101. lanes are not expected to reopen for another hour or two. you may want to also consider caltrain getting out of morgan that seems to be reporting no delays. we also have amy hollyfield livd this morning. elsewhere around the bay area --

>> reporter: good morning, frances. let me show you the very latest. we do have some progress to show you. most of the cars have been towed out of here. they have the last one on the tow truck right now. it looks like they're going to start cleaning up and getting these lanes reopened. right now only one lane open. they did have such a huge mess to clean up here. check out this video. four cars at one point were on fire. the chp says it's pretty rare to have one car catch fire in a crash, but to have four is very unique. they haven't said what caused this fire, but it did shock people who saw it. >> now they're showing the traffic buildup as you know, 101 going north and nobody can get through. oh, man, what a traffic jam. probably all the way to gilroy. >> this is northbound 101 in south san jose.

worker there. across the street at 7 eleven, the suspect stabbed a security guard to death. >> i've worked here in garden grove for 30 years. this is the first time i've ever seen something like this. it's pure evil when this happens. you don't see this happen every day. this is one of the things you see happen one time in a career. >> a woman at an insurance company was also stabbed along with a man at a gas station. this morning, the 33-year-old man you see in this video from garden grove is in custody accused of that violent crime spree nchts new details about the stabbing at the downtown berkeley b.a.r.t. station. bat says there's surveillance video showing the victim arguing with the attacker. a man stabbed a woman on a b.a.r.t. escalator tuesday morning. the victims were taken to the hospital and treated for their injuries. b.a.r.t. police are still searching for the man who stabbed them. we've been reporting on the bay area's housing crisis and looking for solutions this past week. you can go to

surveillance video shows jaer my gaininger ushering people away. in an exclusive interview with abc news, he explains what was goings through his mind. >> i would have died before that gay game in. i was going to try to stand my ground best i could. next thing i know, he's being shot by the officer. >> he was hit by shrapnel and was in the hospital for three days. as you know, nine people died, dozens of others hurt in that dayton shooting on sunday. this weekend, organizers of the gilroy rodeo are expecting a sold-out crowd. this is the first major event in that city since the tragedy at the garlic festival. there are plenty of reminders throughout the gilroy rodeo grounds. shirts, signs, reading gilroy strong. people say the community will not hide as it heals. >> this coming so quickly after the gilroy garlic festival, i think this is exactly, exactly what we need. >> we are gilroy strong, and i

think it's going to be a great show this weekend. >> organizers are taking extra safety precautions. security teams are prepared to respond in the event of an active shooting situation. the gilroy foundation victims of the garlic festival shooting. we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. vallejo are asking for help to find this man. investigators say this man followed a girl around a vallejo department store on saturday. he tried to lure her away by offering money. investigators say the man left the store after he was confronted and he drove away in a white van. in the east bay firefighters are on alert for possible flare-ups from a wildfire that caused evac aches. sky 7 flew above oakley where the wind-driven fire scorched 58 acres yesterday afternoon. the flames destroyed two buildings. 50 people had to evacuate their homes until crews had the fire contained. no homes were damaged and nobody was hurt.

northbound 101 is backed up. it's basically just a crawl from morgan hill, ten-mile stretch, all the way on northbound 101 as you approach highway 85. only one right lane getting by. so five lanes still blocked. chp doesn't expect to reopen lanes until about 7:30 or 8:30. you'll notice with sky map 7, on sky 7, monterey road, which is only two lanes, is also backed up. right now that northbound 101 stretch is going to take about two hours. monterey road and santa teresa boulevard are still better options at this point, but only slightly because you can see they're also jammed heading northbound on both roads, santa teresa boulevard and monterey road. it will take a lot of extra time out of morgan hill into san jose this morning. you may want to consider caltrain if that is a possible alternate for you. there's no way getting around this mess.
