it is sunday august 11th. i'm kumasi aaron. we're starting this morning with a quick look at our forecast. here is meteorologist frances dinglasan in for lisa this morning. good morning, frances. >> good morning, kumasi, good morning, everyone. we have lots of sunshine in store today. right now dealing with low clouds once again. here is live doppler 7 and satellite image. we do have fog as well through parts of the north bay. but this cloud cover is very thin so it will clear out sooner and we're going to see warmer temperatures this afternoon. here is your 12-hour planner. sunrise 6:21. temperatures will mainly be in the 50s and 60s over the next couple of hours and then we'll see sunnier conditions by lunch time for everybody, then this afternoon everyone is going to

warm up. so inland areas in the low 90s around the bay, upper 70s and at the coast mid-60s, even upper 60s. we have an offshore flow developing. this is going to strengthen over the next few days. temperatures will be even inves shooting that left a man dead. officers responded before 10:30 to story road near king road in front of a wells fargo bank. the victim was taken to the hospital where he later died. right now it's not clear what led up to the shooting. the victim's identity hasn't been released and police haven't made any arrest. they are asking anyone with information to contact san jose police. developing news out of san francisco, four people recovering this morning after being shot in the city's western edition neighborhood. it happened after 11:00 last night at the intersection of fillmore and golden gate. you can see the crime tape around the mcdonald's on the

corner. all four victims had to be taken to the hospital. their conditions are unknown. police do not have any suspects in custody. even more developing news, a tnd n is aerax market street in san francisco. it happened before 9:00 last night. the victim is at least the 20th person to die in a traffic collision on san francisco city streets this year. investigators do not believe that drugs and alcohol were involved. the cabdriver remained on the scene and spoke with police. market street has reopened to traffic. now, this area is a supervisor matt haney's district. last night he tweeted, another pedestrian fatality. we are devastated and furious. >> reporter: jeffrey epstein's body in that van seen leaving medical examiner's office, abc 7 news first to report the disgraced financier's death by hanging. staff discovering him at 6:39. they say they tried to revive him.

paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. thee weeks ago he was on the suicide watch after being found in his cell with marks on his neck. abc news finding for some reason he was taken off suicide watch two weeks before his death. some accusers like michelle licata say they are outraged. >> there are so many people looking forward to seeing him put behind bars for the rest of his life. >> it's not only his accusers who are furious. attorney general william barr demanding an explanation saying barr's death raises serious questions that must be answered. his death after thousands of pages of documents unsealed in federal court related to a 2015 defamation case against an associate ghislaine maxwell. in court filings, that accuser, virginia guffre she had -- said she was an

underaged sex sklaf and was directed to have sex with many, quote, powerful men and numerous prominent politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents and other world leaders. those allegations have not been proven. that accuser's lawyer, who represents other alleged victims, writes in a statement, quote, the fact that epstein took his own life 24 hours of the unsealing of detailed and devastating documents and exhibits in virginia giuffre's lawsuit against ghislaine maxwell is no coincidence. there will now be two federal investigations into epstein's apparent suicide. one by the fbi and another by the inspector general. megan tevrizian, abc news, new york. law enforcement sources tell abc news the criminal case will not end with his death. fbi and u.s. attorneys office in manhattan will continue to evaluate the evidence and hear from his accusers. prosecutors point out epstein was facing a conspiracy charge indicating others could be indicted. congresswoman jackie speier

attendees seem to notice. abc 7 news reporter lu luis pen has the story. >> it's the 12th annual outside music festival. >> the music, vibe, everything. it's a good time. >> more than 210,000 people are expected to attend the three-day festival this weekend. >> it's just a really fun experience to come and listen to awesome music and people watch. >> kelly is not the only one people watching. according to sfpd, law enforcement have eyes throughout golden gate park. >> we have a robust lineup of officers we're working closely with. the event coordinator and their security staff. >> during our time at the festival, we saw police officers on bikes, members of the s.w.a.t. team, park rangers and security. even vendors notice a difference in security compared to last year. >> we have people checking under our vehicles with mirrors. >> after the gilroy shooting where police say the suspect cut part of the fence to enter the

garlic festival, sfpd says they are covering the perimeter of the event. >> there's multiple layers of security. i can't speak to specifics but the fencing is one of the lines of defense. >> restrictions on bags were also implemented this year. larger bags prohibited, clear bags recommended. even with all these changes, safety is still top of mind for many. >> you can't go to church, you can't go to a shopping mall, you can't go to college these days without worrying there's some sort of threat where there's a large populace of humans. it's also one of those things that i can't just live my life in fear. >> in st. francis, luz pena, abc 7 news. the commute into san francisco from the east bay will be a little different tomorrow and you'll really notice downtown near sales force

transit center. buses will resume service today, the first anniversary of the center's original grand opening. it was shut down six weeks later after workers discovered cracks in steel beams. the beams were fixed, the center reopened july 1st without its main tenant ac transit. some muni routes have been using the ground floor. the first to run buses along dedicated bus ramp to the center's third floor. in an effort to build a better bay area, abc news is committed to finding solutions to the region's housing crisis. we're looking at how people are buying and living in vans. they are not every day vans. in this case they are called glamper vans. abc 7 news reporter checked them out. >> it's great for watching sunsets, sunrises. >> reporter: rob novotny started glamper vans as a way to update old campers. but he's increasingly getting calls for people not looking for a place to camp but a place to live. >> the one that comes to mind is the woman who is spending $5,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and she actually has all the parking spots all throughout the city worked out already.

area. you can share them by joining our better bay area group on facebook. we're now learning a discarded cigarette is being blamed for sparking this fire in lake county. the flames burned 20 acres since it broke out thursday afternoon. cal fire says it's about 90% contained. at one point it threatened about 40 buildings. firefighters say you can properly dispose of cigarettes and cigars by dousing them in water. officials are warning swimmers, use some caution after a great white shark was spotted in the water in the half moon bay area. the shark sighting came in around 1:30 yesterday afternoon. officials say the shark was seen about a quarter mile south of pillar point harbor. i hope it's like one of those things you can observe it, isn't that nice, way over there, way >> yes. it's going to be nice and sunny and warmer but maybe not go swimming in the pillar point area just to keep you safe. we have a live look outside, and we are looking from sutro out

the head of san francisco school board is offering a proposal to deal with the fight over a mural that put george washington high school in the national spotlight. this weekend he's talking only to abc 7. it's called the life of washington. it's been in place 80 years. some activists want to destroy because of how it portrays oppression of native americans and african-americans. some say painting over the mural, the current approved plan, is a step too far and erases history. school board president steven cook wants to cover the mural with panels. >> there are going to be a variety of opinions about what should happen, but if this passes, actually destroying the art won't be on the table. our hope is that this does pass and that this board can give back to the work of making possible every young person in the city. >> the school board could vote

on the future tuesday. abc reporter has been onton of this story. she tweeted yesterday she's been told actor danny glover, a san francisco native, is in favor of keeping the mural at the high school. he and civil rights leader expected to announce support soon. we'll be sure to keep you posted here and on abc7news.com. tstationery store first opened in 1976 but now they are saying good-bye. the owners of one of the last remaining mom and pop stationery stores in the area say they can't compete with online competitors. abc news reporter has more from los altos. >> the signs at the front of the store tell the whole story. >> would you like a small bag? >> reporter: for 53 years, three generations of the family ran the store. >> it's a landmark in los altos. >> it's one of the last mom and pop stationery shops left in the bay area. for loyal shoppers, it's more than that.

visibility right here across the golden gate bridge. you can see a few cars on the road but it is socked in right now through parts of the north bay and golden gate bridge. san francisco is currently 56 degrees, oakland 62, san jose and gilroy at 61, half moon bay 57. now we head above those low clouds. from sutro we are looking north right now and you can see we've got clear conditions. so the cloud layer is thinner today. santa rosa 55, napa 52 and petaluma 54. so that's where we're seeing the temperatures drop and that's where we're getting the fog. concord already at 62 degrees. check out this pretty live shot from the east bay hills. see how clear it is out there as we look out towards mount diablo. we have high pressure building. so warming trend starts today with high pressure. we'll get more of a land breeze and then as that strengthens over the next few days, we will be about 5 to 10 degrees above average by wednesday, then after

that a cooling trend into next weekend. here is the forecast animation with the cloud cover 7:00 this morning. lots of clearing around the bay area, just clouds off the coast. then you notice this offshore flow pushes the clouds away. so we'll even get more sunshine at the beaches and into tonight. we'll see some clear conditions. we'll still have a little fog over the next week but temperatures will really warm up with the sunshine and this land breeze. so here are your highs today. we'll still see 60s at the coast but this time we'll be warming up into the low 90s inland. san francisco 70 degrees today. you'll need lots of sunscreen over the next few days. san jose 80, oakland 77. look for some low 90s in fairfield, antioch, ukiah, 90, palo alto, 80 degrees. also a great day to head to the beaches with more sunshine. it's going to warm up to 68 at ocean beach, santa cruz 79 degrees but the water will still be pretty chilly at about 58

in the wake, coming together in des moines as democratic candidates are campaigning at the state fair. >> activists are seeing that issues will not be in this presidential election. america is with us and demanding common sense gun safety. >> eighteen candidates participating. >> we need reasonable gun safety laws in our country, including universal background checks and renewal of the assault weapons ban. with many suggesting the shooting in dayton confirms the need for an assault-style weapons ban. >> these weapons are designed to kill lots of people very, very quickly. and we saw it in dayton. within 30 seconds nine people are dead and almost 30 people are injured. >> those police officers got there in one minute but it still wasn't good enough because of the kind of weapon he had.

destroyed all or damaged it's school sites. 100 people showed up to celebrate the reopening of the district's office. students prepared to head back to the classroom, they are looking at different ways to help them cope with memories of last year's devastation. >> it's fantastic. we can go ahead and accomplish all these things we've been trying to do so our kids can learn here in their own schools. >> i think if there's a general message in any letter i received, any envelope, it's just that i gave space for our people to come together. now, one of the coping mechanisms the district is exploring is art therapy as a way to communicate feelings without being vocal. a uc davis doctortoral studente dissertation shows rich muralist with interactive art on the border telling the story of those deported. the mural painted on the mexican side of the border wall in tijuana shows faces of people deported from the u.s. with bar codes that activate first person narratives on visitors phones. 28-year-old elizabeth delacruz satana directed 15 people to help her create this mural on the beach where her father entered the u.s. illegally

with districts and with students because a good education is part of building a better bay area. >> reporter: with only days from the start of the school year it's a numbers game for many districts. >> we're full on principals but still looking for teachers. >> spokesperson said oakland has 24 spots open even though classes begin on monday. currently san francisco unified has 95% of its classrooms staffed. they begin on august 19th. >> we also have a strong pool of substitute teachers that can be supporting as we continue to hire to fill those final openings. >> that's what san jose unified plans to do. classes start wednesday. higher cost of living and jobs stand in the way of recruiting more teachers. special education teachers are most in demand. faced with a serious shortage last year san jose created rise, a two-year credentialing the t provide testing support.
