coast to inland. it is a warm to hot day. current temperature readings 103 at fairfield. 98 brentwood. livermore, concord, 98 at cloverdale, as well. santa rosa 95, san ramon 95. 91 fremont. 74 here in san francisco right now. let me point out we have a heat advisory going into effect tomorrow morning at 11:00 in effect till 8:00 p.m. thursday for virtually all of the immediate bay area except the coastline and some locations around the bay shoreline. these areas in this advisory will see highs above 95 degrees and in some cases above 100. there's an increased risk of heat related illness under conditions like there and excessive heat warning in effect from 11:00 tomorrow morning to 10:00 p.m. friday for these areas in red here, much of lake county and solano county. temperatures will exceed 100 degrees. up to 106, 10 , 108 possible in some spots and under conditions

like this, heat stroke and heat exhaustion are possible. a closer look at the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. larry and ama. >> thank but soaring temperatures are not helping crews fighting the moose fire in mendocino county. that blaze is burning north of hopland about 46 miles north of zonta rosa. authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order downgrade this had morning to an evacuation warning. so far no buildings have been destroyed. cal fire stipulates some 225 acres have burned. it's a 25-% containment. no reports of injuries at this point. >> now back to that attack on a woman just outside of her apartment building in san francisco. the attack is raising new concerns because it happened essentially across the street from a proposed navigation center to help the homeless which is the city's effort to help build a better bay area. >> the victim and others are now wondering at what cost.

kumasi aaron joining us live in san francisco with the details. >> reporter: we spoke with police. they're aware of the concerns. they were able to arrest this man shortly after that attack happened. the woman told us that the man said the woman at her front desk was a robot he was trying to protect her from and that he would go inside and kill that woman so he would trust her. the video is hard to watch. we want to show you what it looks like. it basically shows the man and the victim outside of her apartment of her condo building. she's trying to get inside the building where she lives but this man believed to be homeless is blocking her way. when she tries to grab the door, he grabs her pulling her away from the door and onto the ground. she struggles to get away as the woman at the front desk tries to help while calling police and she's able to open the door but then that man closes it again. she keeps struggling to get in, getting partially inside. but then the man isolnger

leg. she finally makes it inside. it's not over. he tries to get inside too and the two the women do the best to keep the door closes. people arrested him about a block away from where it happened. today it was hard for her to talk about this happening in front of her home. >> i could see my house. i could see my house. i was begging, i was begging so he would let me go in to my house. and he kept saying he was trying to save my save m. ju let me go home.

bay area is finding solutions. santa clara county is looking to fixing the ongoing housing crunch. supervisors requested looking into what it would take to build affordable housing on property the county already owns. one supervisor tells us the costs add up. >> for every person homeless on the street, we spend between $60,000 and $90,000 a year keeping them homeless meaning with ambulances and the jail and the hospital and mental health services. when we have someone housed we spend closer to between 25,000 and $35,000 a person. >> just yesterday, abc7 news was at the unhave aing of the first measure a project to be completed. the $1950 million bond measure was passed three years ago by santa clara county voters to create more affordable housing. we want your ideas about building a better bay area. join our group on facebook. >> hayward police are investigating an officer involved shooting.

> it happened near mission boulevard and valley vista avenue around 8:00 this morning. news reporter wayne freedman is live an the police station with the latest on this investigation. wayne? >> reporter: we suspect this case might be unusual because it took almost seven hours for hayward police to give us anything substantial what happened. roughly 15 minutes ago, they confirmed two of their officers is shot a man. he will survive but here's the key point. that man who they shot had a replica weapon. not a real weapon. let's show video from earlier today and recap the whole thing. it happened at mission boulevard and val vista. police received a call from about a 20-year-old man on the sidewalk shouting and waving a weapon. what happened and how that happened after that remains unclear. there are some reports unconfirmed by hayward police that the man was flat on the ground with his arms extended when shot. hayward police would not confirm

or deny that and wouldti shot o replical weapon at them nor say how many shots were involved. pretty much every question we asked was answered with the answer, this is under investigation. also, worth noting, according to hayward police, the officers had body cameras and the video will be made available. to recap, yes, there was a shooting in hayward this morning. officeres the shot a man brandishing a gun. they found out later it was a replica weapon. they're still investigating. live outside the police station in hayward, wayne freedman, abc7 news. >> thank you. the santa clara county board of supervisors paid tribute to the three victims of the gilroy mass shooting. stephen romero is, 13-year-old caila salazar and trevor irby. family members joined supervisors as they raised the flag back to full staff.

better educational opportunity for their kids are scrambling after the chart area school they were set to attend this fall will no longer open as planned. >> the blame game is in full swinging with parents calling out the local school district and an excusing of r it of sabotage. >> reporter: in downtown san jose, a battle over the right to a quality education. parents are hopes for their kids toids attend promise academy set to open this fall. >> a lot of our kids are being affected. by stall tactics from the district. that's what it boils down to. >> reporter: their dreams dashed last week when san jose unified told school administrators it would not be providing promise with space mainly due to concerns over low enrollment.

proposition 39 requires districts to make schools available be to students who reside in the district. the district says is the academy failed to provide a fully executed agreement by the deadline last spring. >> if they're not the able to provide the necessary enrollment, that makes it challenging them to decide to execute a lease agreement. >> reporter: school officials saying they asked for modifications in terms of the square footage they were slotted to use but hadn't heard back. >> just because i can't afford to live in south san jose doesn't mean my kids shouldn't also get a good education. >> reporter: mayor sam lick card doe said in part, rather than continuing to seek every possible road blow, san jose unified officials should recognize that promise academy can become both a grat asset to the city and a pathway to the opportunity for san jose's children. these parents now left scrambling to find a new school for their kids. >> stop using stall tactics and

instead, just let us open and prove that we can make this high peorng school pp. >> repter: promise has filed multiple lawsuits against the district in the past and is now weighing its future options. chris nguyen, abc7 news. >> the future of a controversial neural some view as racist will be discussed tonight by the san francisco school board. it's drawn the attention of actor danny glover. that mural at george washington high school was painted decades ago depicting the live of our country's first president. there are images of a dead american and slaves working at washington's estate. danny glover graduated from that high school and made a passionate plea this afternoon to keep it. >> the reality that the first father was a slave owner, the reality that the first father got his first prominence, his first as a colonel in the army in the french/indian war, that's true. that's basically, that's the truth of that.

106 in many the next two days. areawide cooling on friday. it may not reach the farthest inland locations. let's take a look at conditions for tonight's first game of the bay bridge series at oracle park want to between the giants and a's. it will be sunny and about 70 degrees when the game starts. that's a lot milder than most night game weather is here in san francisco. overnight patchy fog developing at the coastline. clear over the bay and inland. high temperatures -- low temperatures mainly in the upper 50s to low and mid 60s. it might feel like high temperatures in some spots. here's a listing of some of tomorrow's forecast highs. 100 at santa rosa, 103 cloverdale and morgan hill in the inland east bay, 105. at livermore 104, concord, fairfield 105 and numerous locations in the 90s even close to the bay shoreline. on thursday, it's likely to be

even hotter in many inland locations. lots of places will top out well above 100 degrees on thursday. we'll see mid 80s. maybe even some 90s around the bay shoreline. not much change on friday. a little bit cooler or less warm in places like napa and concord and hayward. the farther inland locations on friday will still max out at triple digits. it won't be till saturday we'll see ooh significant cooling across the entire region. inland areas in the triple digits on thursday and friday drop into the 80s on saturday. >> bay shoreline highs in the 70s. 60s on the coast. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast after two or three days of intense inland heat, temperatures will drop sharply over the weekend. breezy and cooler on saturday and sunday. mild to warm on monday. we'll have our usual summer spread. temperatures on tuesday. do your best to endure this heat over the next in sde place.

today happens to be national left-handers day. it's fitting tonight's bay bridge series kicks off with a match-up of two lefties. brett anderson will face madison bumgarner at oracle park. giants and a's play tonight and tomorrow in san francisco and next weekend two games in oakland. both the a's and giants coming ies wins and both trying to keep their wildcard playoff hopes alive. the a's made headlines earlier this month when the they signed a 23-year-old software sales man to a minor league contract. video of nathan patterson bringing it, 96-mile-an-hour heat had gone viral a few weeks earlier. the a's had been talking with him for months because he started working out with former a's pitcher jarrod parker in tennessee. and today patterson joined us on midday live. he's in arizona with one of the a's rookie league affiliates. >> it was honestly at first very surreal. you know, in the very beginning

from abc7. >> in hong kong today, weaw he day of chaos as riot police stormed hong kong international airport where protests are forced another day of flight cancellations. and almost 7,000 miles away in berkeley, a much smaller demonstration also got heated. abc7 news reporter liz kreutz shows us what's happening at cal. >> reporter: hi, a wall has been created at uc berkeley for students to put notes of support for the protests but turning into a microcosm of the clashes we're seeing overseas as some students put notes up, others are quickly tearing them down. the images are stunning. the hong kong international airport overcome by thousands of pro democracy demonstrators and riot police which forced flights cancel ford a second straight day. at sfo, flights to hong kong till on schedule but the unrest

made its way to the bay area. on the berkeley campus, some students set up a place where people can write notes of solidarity to the hong kong protests are who feel the chinese government is encroaching on their autonomy. >> we can't get back home. >> reporter: many students from mainland china want it taken down. we saw one doing that. others posted alternative messages. >> what message do you want to write? >> the only thing i want to write is i love china. >> reporter: >> we support our homeland. we support china. >> reporter: this berkeley student who is from hong kong kols by every day to put the notes back up and wears a mask and asked to be anonymous out of fear of retribution from the chinese government. the reason why i'm here is to let the international world know for people who doesn't know what's happening in hong kong and let them know what is the case of the police brutality happening in hong kong. >> but she was quickly

going on and when did things really start to escalate on campus? >> reporter: we're told that this hong kong wall started here on campus around june around the time of the protests we saw earlier their summer. the clashes have been kind of going on all summer with students coming head to head and the students who are behind the wall and support the protests say this is all about free speech. they're fine with people coming and putting notes of support on either end. they just want people to have a peaceful conversation and doing that every friday. it seems they come together and have these conversations. ama? >> liz, thank you. >> u.s. financial markets recorded big gaines today after the united states delayed implementing tariffs on several chinese products. the office of the u.s. trade representative says the 10% duties on about $300 billion in chinese imports will be pushed back from september 1st to december 15th. the products receiving the reprieve include chinese made

cell phones, laptop computers, video game consoles, some toys, shoes and clothing and all that easing fears about back to school sales and the holiday shopping season. the dow jones ended the day up 382 points. rising tensions over trade are dimming. americans' opinions of china according to a new poll, the hue research center found 60% of americans have an unfavorable view of china. that's up from 47% last year. the new percentage is the highest total hinch pew began asking 14 years ago. the survey found 24% regard china as america's top threat for the future which happens to be the same percentage as russia, north korea was third at 12% in the survey of 1500 americans. >> the city of san francisco and santa clara county filed a joint lawsuit to try to the stop the trump's new crackdown on immigrants. they claim they are illegal.

attorney dennis herrera called the changes "yet another attempt to vilify immigrants." the state of california filed suit, as well. legal immigrants can be denied green cards orvis sas if they use medicaid, food stamps and housing assistance. administration officials say the changes are designed to clarify existing law and insure immigrants don't become dependent on the government. >> to southern california where police are trying to figure out why a man opened fire during a traffic stop killing a chp officer. two others were injured on a freeway in riverside. news reporter megan tevrizian has more how the horrific incident unfolded. >> reporter: a terrifying scene on a california highway. >> my god. shooting. shooting right now. >> reporter: drivers watching in horror, some ducking to get out of the way from gunfire as officers and deputies exchange dozens of rounds with the suspect, 49-year-old aaron luther, armed with a long gun.

according to police, around 5:30 p.m., a chp unit pulled the suspect over, then decided to impound his car. as the officer filled out paperwork, luther allegedly grabbed aid rifle from his truck and began firing killing one and injuring two others. >> the first officer that was on scene for the california highway patrol was transport the by air ambulance to riverside university health center where he was pronounced deceased. >> reporter: somehow that mort tally wounded officer managing to radio for help an schmidt st.gunfire. luther's father watching it unfold on division. >> it's hard. i love him. and i'm sorry for the policeman. >> reporter: the officer killed 34-year-old andre moy, a three-year veteran of the ighwa. overnight officers gathering outside the hospital mourning the loss of the fallen officer. his body draped in an american flag being carried out by his

a reminder as temperatures heat up across the bay area this week, be careful when it comes to leaving your kids in the car. a case in florida turned out fine but there were very scary moments when a mother accidentally locked her chide inside a car. the desperate efforts to save the child were captured on body camera. meghan mcroberts as the story. >> reporter: $10 million maddy is her first chide and her sidekick. earlier this month taking her to run arounds at lowe's. i took her on a stroll to lowe's to. she paniked after accidentally locking her inside. christina put her in the car

walnut creek is looking for solutions to help build a better area as it struggles to keep small restaurant anderson businesses in the city. more for lease signs are popping up downtown. new businesses are moving in but long time establishments have closes. the ceo of the chamber of commerce met with business owns are to discuss the obstacles they're facing. >> a number of factors go into being able to afford a business. part is labor and wages, part of it is rents. a number of things come into play. in walnut creek we're hearing about the rents are higher. and they are. >> small restaurants expect to
