and we have a large response from cal fire and county task force so about 120 firefighters are assigned to the scene. >> reporter: the fire started at 12:20 along santa teresa boulevard near bailey avenue. it took cress about two hours to stop the forward progress of the fire. more than a dozen homes had to be evacuated. we spoke to a neighbor as she arrived at the scene. >> i thought what am i up against. when i saw that our blocks were you know, being protected by police and cars are backed up, i am truly frightened one firefighter suffered a heat related issue. neighbors thankful for the work of first responders. >> that was chris nguyen reporting. the cause confident fire remains under investigation. however, there were initial reports of a vehicle colliding with a power pole in that area. pg&e says up to 1700 customers were witho pow

video you're seeing after an attack on a woman trying to get into her building. >> the suspect is austin james vincent, believed to be homeless. there's been outrage from the public as well as california lead persons dpersons. >> dion lim joins with us reaction. >> reporter: that's right. it's not just the case itself that is causing outrage. it is the fact that the suspect, james austinton vincent, was released back into the public by judge christine van akin. newsom is referring to this case where you can see clearly on surveillance video the victim get attacked in the lobby of the water mark condos on sunday. after a struggle and getting pushed to the ground, she was able to escape. when she spoke to abc7 news yesterday, she was shaken and says she is now a prison in her own home. today, former san francisco mayor governor gavin newsom

called for more resources to combat these types of incidents. >> people think they're not seriously dealt with and people are back out on the streets, potentially can commit the crime again. your mayor is doing an extraordinary job but she's going to need as we all do more support. that's one of the reasons we're here in the city. >> reporter: in the meantime, the victim panzea core sayrian says she is not is stopping till she has answers from the judge and elected officials that do prioritize our safety. he was charged with false imprisonment and second degree robbery. he has a hearing scheduled for september 12th. whether or not he shows up, we'll have to wait and see. i'm dion lim, abc news. >> do we have any idea why the judge released him back out onto the streets? >> it's a great question.

it is the question many people are asking today. we know the judge not only read the policeut ao saw that surveillance video. i called the judge's office multiple times today. and was hurriedly rushed off the phone saying no one was available for comment. >> dion lim reporting live, thank you. the union city police department seized dozens of guns so far this year. the department posted several pictures on twitter today showing about half of the firearms have been recovered. there are 82 in total including several rifles. a santa rosa doctor faces second degree murder and elder abuse for allegedly overprescribing pain medications. the prosecution says dr. thomas keller issued prescriptions to four people without a legitimate reason and they later died. his lawyer says the charge are an effort to second-guess an established doctor. the doctor had his medical license temporarily suspended in 1990 over allegations that he sexually abused ten female

francisco mayor london breed and several recipients of home buyer programs. >> we've been focusing on housing to build a better area. a new report says you now need to make $343,000 a year to afford a median priced home in san francisco. that would cost you $8600 a month. abc7 news reporter unser hassan explains, the governor says help needs to come from all over to get people into homes. >> reporter: this is the view from joe's home. >> it was a big deal to get the job here as a firefighter and to be able to afford a home. if i didn't have that prm, there's no way. >> reporter: the program is san francisco's first responder down payment assistance program. he came up with $50,000 and the city gave him an additional $375,000. which he has to pay back over time or if he sells. but the big down payment gets him into a house and with an affordable mortgage payment. san francisco mayor london breed

are at the beach today. this is santa cruz beach. the heat eases a bit tomorrow. still hot in a sharply cooler weather will move in this weekend. all areas cooler. it will warm up again middle of next week. forecast shows the development of a teeny tiny bit of coastal fog during the wee hours of the morning and into the midday hours bringing a little bit of cooling to locations near the bay and coast. it will disappear quickly. it won't have much cooling influence. overnight lows will be still quite mild to warm. mainly upper 50s to mid 60s. and tomorrow will be a spare the air day, another one. the poor air quality in the inland east bay and santa clara valley. highs for tomorrow about 70 near the bay or upper 60s, near the coast i should say, mid to upper the bay. that's pretty warm for bay shore locations. we'll have quite a few inland areas with highs at or above 100. notice the cooling on. it's going to be hard to find

ned locations in the 90s on saturday. and on sunday, cooler still with highs in the low to mid 60s around the bay shoreline. low to mid-70s in most inland locations. a few warmer spots top out in the 80s on sunday. then on monday, we'll see just a gradual warmup maybe into the mid 80s in some inland areas and low 70s around the bay. the accuweather seven-day forecast. once again, up to or above 100 in the hottest spots tomorrow but turning sharply cooler on saturday and really much, much cooler than we've seen of late on sunday and monday. midweek next week, we'll see temperatures bouncing back into the low to mid-90s which is not unusual in the inland areas. mid 60s on the coast. i don't see any triple digits in our forecast future for a while. >> that's good. we hope you don't. >> i'm hoping the same thing. >> thank you, spencer. >> just ahead, the marvelous reason a southern california

50 bucks, 100? one placer county man got $50,000 for those sneaker. they're not in great shape but they're special for a number of different reasons according to dave russell, now their former owner. they were given to him at the 1972 olympic trials in eugene oregon vying for a spot on team usa. these rare kicks can known as moon shoes were among the first prototypes designed by bill bowerman and only 12 were made. >> i kind of had an idea what they were worth. so yeah, but it far exceeded that. they're very unorthodox shoes. they were very exotic because the sole was completely different. it was made on a waffle iron. it was glued to the bottom of the shoe. the shoe was completely handmade. i loved them. they fit like a glove. >> made on a waffle iron? russell sold the shoes to a hotel chain that is building a nike-themed property in eugene

now, news to build a better bay area from abc7. >> jury deliberations in the ghost ship trial will continue into another week. the jurors today again asked to the judge to review some testimony. >> abc7 news reporter lesley brinkley joining us live at the courthouse where the wait continues. >> reporter: that's right, larry and ama. day nine of deliberations and as the day started, there was a sense from the defense at least that today we would have a verdict. that did not happen. instead, there were a few surprises from the jury. at 2:45 this afternoon, there was a handwritten note delivered to the judge that note asking for testimony to be reread from carmen brito. carmen is a prosecution witness who lived at the ghost ship warehouse. they wanted three pages of her testimony reread to them. and that happened this afternoon. there were a few other surprises this morning.

>> they're deliberating and talking amongst themselves all morning. >> there was an expectation among defense attorneys that the jury would request a rereading of derek almena's testimony. it's a request they made several days ago and abruptly backed out of yesterday afternoon. >> the biggest thing that didn't happen is that they have not -- they still haven't asked for a read back of his testimony. >> derek almena and self-proclaim artistic director max harris each face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the lives lost in the fire of december 2016. both defendants change into civilian clothes each morning and bus from the san tal rita jail to the oakland courthouse where they wait in cells on the tenths floor while a jury dlib rays. family members are no longer in the halls of the courthouse but are expected to flock here the moment a verdict is announced.

deliberations are done for today. in fact for the weekend. the jury won't be back to clib rate till monday morning. larry and ama? >> what specifically did the jury want reread to them this afternoon? do we know that? >> reporter: that carmen brido testimony zeroed in on safety at the warehouse. they wanted three-pages reread. she was a resident of the warehouse. they had safety meetings. she said no one ever complained of the stairs. but there was talk of the need for fire sprinklers. and she said in her testimony from may 28th that they just didn't have $50,000 that was needed to put in sprinklers. they weren't the owners of the building. the significance of that, how that if is into where the jury is and what they're thinking we don't know. we do know this is going into yet another week of testimony. reporting live in oakland, lesley brinkley be abc7 news. >> let's walk you through how we

got to this trial which for a time seemed unlikely. the fire happened december 2nd of 2016. ar then prosecutors announced harris june 5th of 2017. both sides tried to reach a deal and they had one, july 3rd, 2018 when both almena and harris entered no contest pleas but family and friends of the victims asked the judge to reject that deal which he did. opening statements for the trial began april 30th and the jury's been deliberating since july 29th. >> developing news now, former nascar driver dale earnhardt jr. and his wife escaped after their small jet crashed in eastern tennessee. his sister tweeted that everyone on board is safe and that they had been taken to a hospital for further efvation. the faa says the cessna citation rolled off the end of a runway and caught this afternoon. >> fortunate they were able to walk away. shoot-out in philadelphia lasted

to bar representatives rashida tlaib of fish gan and ilhan omar of minnesota from making a visit. both are of israel's treatment o priden trump tweeted it would show great weakness if israel allowedin last month he targeted omar, tlaib and two other democratic congresswoman of color saying they should go back to where they came from. tlaib's family emigrated to the u.s. from west bank. >> the democratic presidential race is down to 23 candidates after former colorado governor john hickenlooper ended his bid. he released a video mess and today and in it, he said he's given or he is giving serious thought to running for senate in colorado next year against republican incumbent cory gardner. at least ten democrats have already launched campaigns. >> hickenlooper is the second candidate to drop out of the race since june. east bay congressman eric

in switzerland we have a butcher smop. that's our tradition to make a pork quetta sandwich. we have a line in switzerland the same as we have in sfroins. san francisco. >> porchetta is very italian street food. to make a really good porchetta that has that skin that's really beautifully colored it takes hours. the porchetta to me has the flexibility to do some new style of making a sandwich. when we found this doughnut from dynamo doughnuts the ingredients they infuse is very mediterranean. we're not going too wild. >> i thought it would be a sweet doughnut but it was kind of nice that it was like a more savery doughnut, like a great combination. nice contrast of flavors. >> i'm rodrigo gonzales. i'm with dynamo doughnuts.

i came up with the recipe. an onion and thyme doughnut with peppered brown sugar top. it was coming up with ingredients that paired well with the meet that was being bed. we wanted to keep the meet as the star. there's definitely the curiosity of a savory doughnut, something not commonly seen. >> she said doughnut and i said ah. they're doing an incredible collab so i'm here. >> we have the doughnut and we have very thin sliced porchetta meat and a little bit of an onion marmalade and we sprinkle a little bit of mix of brown suga sugar. >> it soaks up all the juices.jc the porchetta juices. >> they sold out within an hour. i knew i had to come really early. >> i thought it would be sweeter
