illinois, iowa, down to, say, kentucky, even cincinnati, and this is just the beginning. tomorrow it moves into new england. so keep an eye tomorrow afternoon anywhere from new york up through vermont and even maine again. george? >> another tough one. okay, ginger, thanks very much. we go to the white house now where president trump and his team now considering new measures to boost the economy and forestall a recession ahead of next year's election. senior national correspondent terry moran is tracking the latest. one of the big questions, will the president propose new tax cuts? >> reporter: not right now, george. good morning. but you're absolutely right. in public the president and his team have been talking up the economy. they're pointing to continued economic growth, strong consumer spending and the like, but they can see the warning signs around the world and the u.s. and they want to be ready just in case, especially in an election year so what are we talking about? they're looking apparently at tax cuts for investors as well as some tax cuts perhaps payroll tax cuts for ordinary consumers. that's the fastest way to get

cash into americans' pockets. what no one is talking about right now is the deficit. it's ballooned under president trump and in a recession it would grow considerably. so that is something that also looms ahead. >> there's no question about that, terry. meantime, in the wake of those twin shootings in el paso and dayton a couple of weeks ago we remember the president coming out, it seemed to be, quite strong for the idea of new background checks. want to take a look at that. >> there's a great appetite and i mean a very strong appetite for background checks and i think we can bring up background checks like we've never had before. >> background checks that we've never had before a couple of weeks ago. but here was the president late sunday when he got back from his vacation. >> it's the people that pull the triggers, not the gun that pulls the trigger. but just remember we already have a lot of background checks. >> pretty familiar pattern there, terry. >> reporter: very familiar, george. we heard it after parkland and after other american massacres on this president's watch.

once donald trump supported the assault weapons ban and longer background checks and waiting periods, but that was before he became a president, a politician, seeking the nra's endorsement. the nra flooded the white house and the congss with calls and right now basically both sides are at a standstill. the president saying it's up to congress. congress saying it's up to the president. nothing will likely get done. >> the cycle repeats itself so many times. thank you, terry. also in congress fallout is growing over israel's decision to restrict the visit of two democratic house members and in an emotional press conference they blasted israeli prime minister netanyahu and also president trump. our senior political correspondent mary bruce is on capitol hill with the latest. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning. the congresswomen were supposed to be overseas but instead they are here speaking out. they are slamming israeli prime

minister netanyahu for barring them after they were critical of his government and they're taking on the president in this unprecedented use of his power after he warned netanyahu that letting in these congress women would show great weakness. unable to hold back tears, michigan congresswoman rashida tlaib told reporters why she turned down israel's offer from seeing her grandmother days after she was denied entry. >> we decided as a family that i could not go until i was a free american united states congresswoman coming there, not only to see my grandmother, but to talk to palestinian and israeli organizations that believed that my grandmother deserved human dignity as much as anyone else does. >> reporter: talib explaining her decision using her grandmother's own words. >> she said, i'm her dream manifested. i am her free bird. so why would i come back and be caged and bow down? >> reporter: tlaib and congresswoman ilhan omar ripped into president trump for pressuring israel to cancel their planned visit. >> donald trump would love nothing more than to use this

issue to pit muslims and jewish-americans against each other. the muslim community and the jewish community are being othered and made into the boogeyman by this administration. >> repor the muslim congresswomen have both publicly criticized israel's policies concerning palestinians and support boycotts against the country. now congresswoman omar is calling into question the billions of aid that the u.s. provides to israel each year suggesting that aid should be tied to israel's treatment of the palestinians. george? >> even though she's gotten support from fellow democrats that could put democrats in a tough position. >> reporter: george, it does put a lot of democrats in a really tricky spot because on the one hand they want to support and defend their democratic colleagues but many democrats here simply don't agree with all of their positions and don't want to be seen as rebuking their strong support for israel. >> mary bruce, thanks very much. t.j.? now we turn to new developments in the eric garner investigation.

officer daniel pantaleo is fighting now to rejoin the force after being fired for the chokehold death of garner. new york's police union was outraged over the decision to fire him in the first place. garner's family says there's still more to be done. abc's eva pilgrim downtown at the first police precinct with the very latest. good morning, eva. >> reporter: good morning, t.j. this was a decision that surprised many inside nypd. some of the top brass learning about the firing by watching it on tv. ultimately this was the police commissioner's decision, one he says he knew may not be popular with his brothers and sisters in blue. this morning, the officer fired for the chokehold death of eric garner filing an appeal to get his job back. five years after garner died on a new york street, daniel pantaleo fired. >> every time i watch that video i say to myself as probably all of you do to mr. garner, don't do it. comply. to officer pantaleo, don't do it.

>> reporter: the police commissioner making the final call after an nypd judge recommended pantaleo be terminated despite his denials he used a banned chokehold. the judge finding his actions reckless during garner's arrest for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes. that move triggering a fatal asthma attack. >> i can't breathe. >> reporter: garner's final words, "i can't breathe" uttered 11 times becoming a battle cry for the black lives matter movement. [ chanting ] >> reporter: mayor de blasio putting pressure on the commissioner to act while on the presidential campaign trail, now saying the commissioner made the right decision. >> members of the nypd learned the lessons of this tragedy. they acted on it. they did something about it. >> reporter: but an outraged police union accusing the commissioner of bowing to public pressure. >> the leadership has abandoned

ship and left our police officers on the street alone. >> reporter: pantaleo's firing a measure of justice for the garner family who pushed for years but never saw charges filed against that officer. >> yes, he's fired, but the fight is not over. we will continue to fight. >> i lost my son. you cannot replace that. you can get another job. maybe at burger king, okay? >> reporter: and the family is pushing for the other officers involved to be disciplined. this as they are fighting for an eric garner law that would make police chokeholds illegal. robin? >> that is their hope. all right, eva, thank you. now to new details about what happened in the days before jeffrey epstein's death. the convicted sex offender signing a will for his multimillion dollar estate. linsey davis has been tracking this case and joins us now with the latest. good morning, linsey. >> good morning. this robin we're learning the late financier jeffrey epstein signed his will two days before he took his own life in a manhattan prison. court papers filed last week say

his estate valued at more than $577 million including more than $56 million in cash. his collection of valuable fine arts, antiques and collectables will also be subject to appraisal while the beneficiaries are still not named. the will seeks to appoint two of his long-time attorneys as executors. the will only names one heir, his brother mark. several attorneys representing his alleged victims are vowing to go after those assets saying they should be distributed to their clients since epstein's death means there will be no trial on criminal charges against him. >> just two days before he took his life. >> just two days. he signed the will august 8th, was found dead august 10th. >> and his only living heir is his brother. >> his brother mark. >> we'll see. >> thanks, linsey. george? new trouble for juul. a 19-year-old has filed a lawsuit against the e-cigarette making and a tobacco company, accusing them of racketeering. gio benitez has details. good morning, gio. >> hey, george, good morning. we've heard the growing questions over these devices. it was just days ago when the

fda began investigating the potential link between e-cigarettes and seizures and in june san francisco banned e-cigarette sales entirely. now this new lawsuit. >> reporter: this morning juul the popular e-cigarette maker and tobacco giant philip morris are facing a new lawsuit in federal court after a 19-year-old said he became addicted to nicotine and had worsening asthma symptoms after he began using a juul device three years ago. according to the lawsuit, the companies illegally marketed the devices to minors and deceived the public about the risks of vaping. the lawsuit says defendants prey on youth for financial gain. and because the philip morris subsidiary altria is an investor in juul, the lawsuit argues the allegedly deceptive marketing constitutes racketeering. both companies saying the claims have no merit. in a statement juul writing they have launched an aggressive action plan to combat underage use which included shutting down their facebook and instagram accounts and enhancing online age verification. juul also denies marketing to

youth saying the product was always intended for adults. meanwhile, that 19-year-old who filed this lawsuit says he seeks to represent all illinois minors who use these devices. >> could you have a big impact. gio, thanks very much. we turn to an urgent manhunt under way in california for the suspect in a brazen college campus stabbing. 57-year-old steven chan was working on campus as a consultant. he was killed on the first day of classes. police believe the victim and suspect knew each other and that this was a targeted attack. they are now using every available resource to try to track down that killer. >> oh, my goodness. now we have new clues in the urgent search for a pair of firefighters who vanished during a fishing trip off the coast of florida. rescuers racing to the spot where some gear was found. victor oquendo is in miami and has the latest for us. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, robin. that tackle bag giving crews a much-needed lead. it's also a sign of hope for their families as the search now enters day four.

this morning, the search for two missing boaters off the florida coast intensifying. overnight authorities zeroing in on the area where this fishing bag with gloves and gear was recovered about 50 miles off st. augustine. brian mccluney's wife stephanie writing she believes they threw it overboard to say we are here, come find us. >> he strategically took out he heavy items. there were no pliers, no heavy tackle, no weights in it, only had things that he knew we could identify. we could definitely identify the bag. it was his father's so it is a huge deal. >> reporter: mccluney and justin walker both firefighters haven't been heard from since they left on a fishing trip friday morning. the coast guard releasing this surveillance image of the pair putting their boat into the waters of port canaveral. >> my brother and justin are very resourceful, very well trained. they know what they're doing. if there is a way to get found they'll make that as easy as possible for us. >> reporter: the search spanning nearly 50,000 square miles from cape canaveral up to charleston,

south carolina. dozens of boats, six aircraft and nearly 150 people looking for the firefighters by air and sea. those numbers likely growing as authorities are asking for anyone with a boat to help. >> we're going to find these guys and it's just a matter we finally started zeroing in a little bit today and we'll find them. >> reporter: and because both men are firefighters the fire and rescue chief says they have the experience and the skill set to survive. at this point this is still a rescue mission. george? >> okay, victor, thank you very much. we move overseas to the mystery surrounding that deadly nuclear blast in russia. reports that two radiation monitoring stations have gone silent are raising new concerns and our foreign correspondent james longman is back from russia with the latest. good morning, james. >> reporter: yeah, good morning. that's right. when i was there people told me they were mostly concerned because they weren't getting enough information and now these radiation systems have gone offline. the picture isn't getting any clearer. this morning, russia's radiation mystery deepens. since that nuclear missile

malfunction nearly two weeks ago radiation detection sites across the country are going silent. according to an international nuclear watchdog two bases went dark august 10th, then three days later two further sites stopped transmitting. why? russia won't say. but it's possible authorities are trying to hide data that these sites could have detected following the nuclear blast. that killed five russian scientists and two military personnel and prompted an evacuation that was later canceled. speaking yesterday, vladimir putin said there was no contamination risk or danger of radiation. but given this concern is a top secret missile project much of what happens remains a mystery and russia has sought to hide nuclear accidents before. this is on a totally different scale to the chernobyl disaster. it's the cover-up in which some see parallels. the tragedy surged back into the global spotlight thanks to the popular hbo series. and all this comes as a u.s./russian nuclear treaty fell apart earlier this month.

differently. luckily in a car, it was a close call out on safari in south africa, a group looking to take photographs but suddenly encounter a rhinoceros and have to run for their lives. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: this is the terrifying moment a safari turns into a high-speed chase. a white rhino charging a group of tourists in south africa. in this newly released video watch as the nearly three-ton animal gives chase for nearly two minutes. at one point coming within inches of the vehicle. >> i thought he was going to eat us. >> reporter: rian boshoff says his tour group was looking to photograph leopards when the rhino crossed the road in front of them. he says their car slowly approached but once they passed, it came after them. >> at first i just thought it's going to be like a short charge and then it would stop. >> reporter: the rhino in hot pursuit. these animals capable of reaching speeds of more than 30 miles per hour.

>> the ride had a lot of turns in it which made it difficult for us to get away. the driver took a 90-degree turn into the bush to try to deter the rhino because they have bad eyesight, but he was determined to get to us. he just kept on coming. >> reporter: the driver eventually outrunning the tired animal. >> the driver really did a good job to keep us safe and he just asked us to sit still and he got us out of the situation. >> reporter: experts say rhinos can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous if startled. in february a zookeeper was rushed to the hospital after archie, a 50-year-old white rhino, struck her with his horn. this latest incident luckily ending without injury. almost really scary stuff. the group was all okay. when the driver got them to a safe area he reportedly told them that that rhino had charged vehicles before. >> same one. >> the driver was prepared. >> he knew what to do. >> those things can go 30 miles an hour. >> they're big.

>> yeah, but everybody is all right. thank you will. >> sure. we have that vacation nightmare we want to tell you about. a connecticut father heading back to the caribbean where he is facing manslaughter charges after a deadly incident involving a hotel worker. he says he was just protecting his family. amy is here with that story and there's new evidence that could affect the case. >> that's right. there's a new report out that will shed some light on this case. scott hapgood says when a hotel worker pulled a knife then demanded money from him he had to fight back to save himself and his family and, yes, that toxicology report now is shedding a whole new light on the case. this american financier is fighting for his freedom after authorities say he killed a worker during a fight at a five-star caribbean resort. 44-year-old scott hapgood of connecticut was arrested in april while vacationing with his wife and children in anguilla. he says 27-year-old hotel worker kenny mitchel showed up claiming he needed to fix a broken sink. in a written account hapgood provided to "the new york times"

he claimed soon after he left mitchel in, the worker pulled a knife demanding my money and my wallet. hapgood says during a hard struggle he was stabbed and bitten by mitchel several times. hapgood telling "the times," i feared for my life as well as the lives of my daughters. hapgood's daughters who were in the room at the time summoned help from the front desk according to "the times." the paper interviewed one of the other workers who told them he saw hapgood straddling mitchel and leaning on his neck and face and that mitchel appeared to be struggling for air. mitchel died of positional asphyxia and blunt force injuries. a toxicology report obtained by abc news states that mitchell had a blood alcohol level of .181, more than twice the u.s. limit, and he had cocaine in his system at the time of the incident. abc news has not independently verified the report. authorities in anguilla would not confirm or deny the results. hapgood's attorneys releasing a statement saying scott hapgood had no choice but to defend

himself and his children from the frenzied attack of a man under the influence of a dangerous combination of illegal drugs and alcohol. now, hapgood has been out on bail and back in the united states but he will be in anguilla for the court hearing on thursday. this case, as you might imagine, has rocked that small caribbean island and local authorities have been criticized for letting hapgood travel back home while he awaits that hearing. we'll certainly know a little bit more later this week. >> a lot of eyes on that courtroom. thanks very much. we turn to a group of california high school students under fire after a video surfaced showing them doing a nazi salute. matt gutman is outside their school in garden grove. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, george. they did attend this high school. in that video it does not appear that any of those students were coerced into making that nazi salute. one of the kids is seen laughing in the video. on a loudspeaker a nazi marching tune is playing which one kid is singing. the school says it's taking action, but what is so

disturbing about this is that the number of these nazi-related incidents have more than doubled over the past several years. this now viral video showing a group of california teens raising the nazi salute is sparking outrage this morning. about ten male teens all students reportedly members of the pacifica high school water polo team are seen making the gesture during an off-campus event. some heard singing a song used by the third reich. the school district telling abc news that it strongly condemned the offensive nazi-related gestures seen in the footage first obtained by "the daily beast." the district said the video was taken in november of last year and shared on snapchat and it only became aware of the video in march at which time school administrators took immediate action and addressed the situation with all students and

families involved. this video taken just a few months after this photo was taken at a teen party in nearby newport beach which shocked the community. it showed teens around a table topped with red plastic cups arranged in the shape of a swastika and their hands raised in apparent nazi salute. the anti-defamation league reporting nearly 1,900 incidents last year, 344 at k through 12 schools up nearly 50% since 2016. were these kids asked to apologize? were they disciplined in? we don't know. the school says it is refusing to disclose any disciplinary information citing federal privacy concerns. we pressed them further. they would only say they used restorative practices. when we asked them what that meant we got no response. >> that was the question to ask. >> sure was. thanks vmuch. coming up, the parents' takehigh-sfight for custody of their 4-year-old taken after they refused to allow him to be given chemo to treat his cancer.

>> good morning, robin. they want their little boy back. noah mcadams diagnosed with leukemia and the state took him away because they were seeking alternative treatments. >> reporter: this morning a mother and father are fighting to regain custody of their young son. >> first step of healing is belief within and being in a positive state of being. >> reporter: 4-year-old noah was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia earlier this year. his parents stopped chemotherapy just days into treatment. >> he had vicious mood swings making him violent, making him very emotional and he also started to lose his hair right away after the first treatment. >> reporter: the couple then turned to alternative treatments including medical marijuana and cbd oil. the increasingly popular cannabis extract sold over the counter. >> did you consent to chemotherapy? >> yes. >> at the time that you

consented to chemotherapy did you believe that chemotherapy was necessary for your son to survive cancer? >> i wasn't sure. i don't know. >> reporter: the couple took noah out of state to seek a second opinion. they were found in kentucky after a nationwide search. the state of florida placing the boy in the custody of his grandparents who were ordered to resume chemotherapy. >> this is not about whether we're choosing alternative therapies, natural therapies. this is about our rights as parents to seek other options. >> what makes this case different from, for example, refusing vaccinations is, first, you have a child who is actually ill. he has an identifiable disease and he has a treatment that, according to the evidenc has a very high rate of success. >> reporter: experts tell abc news the standard protocol for treating noah's cancer has a 90% success rate for parents following the chemotherapy regimen.

and harry blasting the press on both instagram and twitter. the superstar singer writing, i am deeply distressed by today's distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the duke and duchess of sussex's private stay at my home in nice last week, adding, prince harry's mother, diana, princess of wales, was one of my dearest friends. i feel a profound sense of obligation to protect harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to diana's untimely death. the couple under fire for flying private as they advocate for the environment but elton john pushing back saying he wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. to maintain a high level of much-needed protection we provided them with a private jet flight. >> they're now traveling with baby archie. private jets, unfortunately, even though there was, of course, controversy that comes with that is the safest way to travel and he'd also made them

i think i was, yeah, 6, and i was at home when we lived in atlanta and the earliest tennis memory i remember is me hitting it against the garage. i guess that's how it started. >> when did it all sick in that, hey, i'm pretty good at this? >> i always try to push myself. i know i'm doing well but i don't tell myself, oh, i'm pretty good i think because i think i can always improve. >> you don't enter a tournament unless you want to win it, is that right? >> yeah, because i won't step on the court unless i think i can wing. i think it's silly to go into a match thinking i'm going to lose or thinking i'm lucky to be here because it took a lot of work to be here. >> reporter: years of hard work and dedication which in many ways is a true family affair. >> yesterday was the first time. >> reporter: her parents both former college athletes. mother kandi who ran track and field at florida state manages not only coco's schedule but those of her younger brothers, cody and cameron.

father corey, a basketball star at georgia state, is one of her coaches. >> they always fight over who like gave me the gifts, i guess. so like my dad says i got the height from him. my mom says i got the legs from her and the speed from her but then he argues that the speed is from him. >> as former athletes you look at the things you could have did better if maybe you could do it so it gives you a chance, these are some of the things i wouldn't have done so i'm going to make sure you don't do those things and i think that's why she's able to be successful. we always tried to give her the best we can afford and decided not to play, we would be satisfied we did the best to give her the best opportunity to be successful. >> what advice can you give to parents who have children that are participating in sports, whether it's at the level of coco or little league? >> my biggest thing with her is be grateful you have the opportunity to play. my biggest advice to parents is be appreciative that you are able to cheer your child on to victory or in defeat and be able

to hug them if they lose. one of the biggest things with coco is that you're going to act accordingly on the court. make your country proud, you're representing people and you're representing yourself more importantly. >> reporter: for coco's proud grandparents, eddie odom jr. and yvonne, her rise has been a thrill and a joy. has it been surreal for you all as well. >> i can't believe it. i was teasing coco. i say g-ma can live off the crumbs from your table. >> how does everybody chip in? >> when they concern the mom and the dad have made some really good decisions and i know that, so whatever they ask me to do, i'm willing to do it and they really put their time in coco so she can achieve a dream. >> what are your dreams? >> my tennis dream is to be the greatest of all time. my dad always told me that ever since i was a little girl that

one day i would change the world with my racket, so i hope i can do that and i'm already thinking about ideas on how i can. >> what kind of ideas? >> i think a big focus is mental health. i think i want to push that more, i guess, especially now on social media it's a little bit, i guess, toxic, i guess, so i think that especially being young that it's important that people kind of recognize it, that it's an issue. >> when people are watching you play what do you want them to feel? >> for me i just want them to feel that anything is possible and that, like, honestly, the sky is the limit. actually, no, the sky isn't the limit. you can go as far as you want and i think anything is possible at any age or any point of time in your life. [ applause ] >> i had the good fortune of working at espn and being around a lot of athletes like that when they're up and coming but there's something incredibly special about her and her family. she has a long way to go, ranked

141 right now and can only play in a certain amount of tournaments because she's 15 years old and got the wild card to play at the u.s. open but when she says she wants to be the greatest of all time, it's not a cockiness. >> no, you can tell. >> it's like, why wouldn't you want to be the greatest? when she answered how she would like to give a platform to mental health. a 15-year-old who is thinkin like that. >> it's so clear every generation in that family is doing their part. >> i love g-ma. i'm living off the crumbs. she's got the two little brothers and they're in school and all in school and everybody, it takes a village. they all work together. >> it helps to understand her better now seeing the whole family including the little brothers and grandmother. it helps watching her but to see that whole family, okay, this is where she comes from. >> u.s. open starting soon. we'll be rooting for her. >> cannot wait for that. >> excited. infamous tariq played so well. that's where we left ghost off. >> for me my character is stepping out into her own. for so long she was just tasha's best friend and our friendship is tested in the final season and not in a great way. so it's emotional for us because we are really close in real life and we had to play it out differently on the show but you get to see how this friendship gets broken all the way down. >> for tasha you get to see her become more independent of ghost because she's been attached to this man for so long, and now she's like, you know what, i got to do me. and, ladies, y'all know what i'm talking about. sometimes you just have to step out on your own. and being a mother is the focus this year. she is focussed on saving her son. and i just became a mommy. >> and me, i got killed. so, yeah. so we're back with a woman going viral for paying off more than $200,000 of student loan debt celebrating with this video and also sending a message about how to advocate for yourself. will reeve is back with this story. i love this one. >> me too. this video is an absolute party. there's music blasting. there's dollars flying all over. it's celebrating that huge debt-free milestone, $200,000 for a woman who's had to overcome more than just financial obstacles. ♪ i do my hair tall check my nails baby how you feeling ♪ >> reporter: 35-year-old caitlin boston is feeling good, all right. yeah, she's wearing a purple spandex catsuit and a korean

wedding crown. maybe you would too if you paid off more than $200,000 in student debt on your own. >> i really wanted to figure out a way to express what i wanted the next phase of my life to be like that wasn't about debt in any sense. it was about, you know, celebration and gratitude and joy. >> reporter: her celebration video going viral on youtube. the video is carefree now but it was a long road to get here. >> my payment was more than i could bear to pay at the time and i called my dad in a panic. he said i can't help you. we can't help you. i think that that -- i felt so ashamed in that instance just because i felt like i should never have had to ask in the first place. >> reporter: her father has since passed away. this is the last picture she took with her dad. so with no family support, how did she get out from under her crushing debt? caitlin says by demanding equal pay. >> i think as a woman you have to be your own advocate.

i don't think that you can get far without thinking really strategically about how you want to get paid. >> reporter: caitlin calls it the over and under method asking co-workers if they make over or under x dollars, she says. turning to her peers to find out what they made, doing that gave her the information to ask for more money eventually making an additional 40% per year. >> be strategic, know your worth. that's it. >> reporter: while asking for money after surveying her peers was vital she also made calculated and careful lifestyle cutbacks to save money. taking on roommates to share rent, slashing her grocery bill by any means possible, using a bike instead of paying for a subway card. picking up freelance work on the side to add to her income but says while all these disciplined lifestyle changes helped, it was knowing her worth and asking for those raises that meant she could keep paying down that debt and pay it off. >> i love that so much. >> i do too. >> caitlin dedicated her now viral video to her late dad.

information, the internet. and guess what, not a huge news flash, but we need to remind you it's not always the guess place to get medical advice. >> reporter: they're all over the internet, sites, ads and videos featuring misleading health information about cancer treatment. with more than 1.7 million new cancer diagnoses every year in the united states the american cancer society warns a lot of what passes for cancer information on the internet is made up of opinion, salesmanship and testimonials and is not grounded in careful science. adding, people may be passing along information that's limited, inaccurate or just plain wrong. so often when someone is diagnosed with cancer or someone they love is diagnosed with cancer we all immediately go to the internet. we google the cancer, how often do you get a patient in who has gotten false or misleading information from googling whatever disease they've been diagnosed with? >> every single day. and it is devastating. i'm emotional about this but i

will say that one of the hardest things in my practice is when you see a patient who you know you could have cured, that happens all the time. >> because of false information? >> because of false information. >> reporter: in an effort to combat the cancer care information gap online, some websites like facebook have started tweaking their search algorithms to make inaccurate cancer news less accessible. facebook saying in a statement announcing the change, misleading health content is particularly bad for our community. other websites like survivor net promise to give people an option for vetted information from cancer doctors, patients and survivors like myself. why do you think now more than ever this site is so important for people? >> there's so much misinformation right now everywhere and so someone newly diagnosed or if you love somebody who has cancer you absolutely need a place that is vetted and that explains the options. we're helping people in a vetted way.

vetted means doctors review other doctors and we're helping people with a source that they can trust. >> what do you hope the impact will be of survivor net? >> we want to help people make better decisions that can save their lives. better decision-making happens with better information. better information can save your life, period. period want to hear from other people who have been there before. so if we can help you feel a little less anxious -- >> a little less alone. >> yeah. and it's working. every day we get people saying, thank you, i didn't know that was an option for my fill in the blank cancer. that's the best thing that makes us wake up in the morning saying we're doing something right because people say i thought survivor net was a little bit like having a friend. >> that's so true. when you battle cancer, you need all the friends you can get. i think what makes online platforms like survivor net so powerful is there's all this medical knowledge at your disposal but perhaps just as important, you get to read stories and hear stories about how other people beat cancer or at least got through the

treatments and that gives you so much belief that you can do it too. >> yeah, such an important community in so many different ways. >> it is. >> you have a hat trick today. three different pieces in the same show. >> i'm a triple threat today. triple threat. and we are well past wethe honeymoon phase.
