at 6:00 this morning, we're starting with a live look air perhaps this is the day to turn it back on. >> not only is this going to be the hottest day of the week, we also have another spare-the-air alert. you've been warned. good morning and welcome to this monday, august 26th. >> thankfully you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. here it is with meteorologist mike nicco. >> thanks a lot. welcome to monday morning. as you guys mentioned, the warmest day of the week, so it's only going to get more comfortable from here. a touch of humidity in the forecast. we'll talk about it. walnut creek, 67 right now. the interior east bay could have the poor air quality. we're all under the umbrella. so we can all do what we can to not burn fossil fuel to i da. that's what cranks it up. a look at a few fingers of fog that will keep cooler weather around the bay and especially the coast. you can see inland we go from 62, upper 80s to upper 90s noon

to 4:00. parts of the bay will get warm to hot. the coast is going to stay in the mid to upper 60s. that's still a little warmer than average. we'll talk more about the humidity coming up. first, here is frances. we're seeing delays on munis k and m line due to traffic lights being out at st. francis circle. trains are running through the area. there could be delays inbound and outbound. a.c.e. 1 moving five minutes late. b.a.r.t. reporting no delays. that's a great option for folks heading out of the east bay. metering lights are on and traffic is backed up past the 880 overcrossing. you will also find some fog across the golden gate bridge. elsewhere we haven't had too many accidents reported on bay area freeways. east bay, police investigating a shooting in el cerrito. they say an off duty officer with the san francisco police department shot a man overnight. it happened on mosier lane near kearny street. the man who was shot is expected

what led up to the confrontation. abc 7 news details. she'll have a live report coming up in the next half hour. the suspects are still on the loose after a robbery at the great mall. >> the rob robbers targeted a jewelry store there. jobina fortson is live in milpitas for us. >> reporter: natasha and reggie, shoppers told us they thought they heard gunshots. according to police, there were none. investigators say the three suspects that they're looking for in that robbery, they believe were unarmed at the time of the crime. the smash and grab happened around 7:30 last night at the diamonds bichne all these people with babies ae

and children running, and it was so scary especially -- it feels like every single weekend now we're hearing something about shootings and it feels like it's getting worse. >> the mall was reopened to great mall staff at 10:40 last night after being locked down since about 8:00 p.m. during the lockdown police searched the building to make sure there was no shooter. of course, they did not find one. live from the great mall this morning, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. there are two other mall robberies that happened across the state within hours of that incident in milpitas. modesto police released this surveillance image that shows two of the men who robbed the jewelry store at the vintage fair mall. police say four men used a sledgehammer to break glass at the store. that caused a loud noise and people panicked. those suspects got ayts were ar

reports of a robbery at the mall in canoga park. abc 7 sent out this push alert when the news first broke out last night. you can find out about breaking news right when it happens by downloading the free abc 7 news app. it is 6:04 now. this morning hong kong lawmakers are blaming the other side for protests that escalated into violence. protesters clashing with police, this after a march which ended at a park yesterday. protesters attacked officers with sticks and rods and water cannon trucks. police drew their guns and fired a warning shot. they also used disperse the crowd. pro democracy lawmakers say the government is responsible for legislation. they say police are selectively targeting government opponents.

maddening. the city has to do something besides about the garbage. >> we were hoping the mayor could clean up the streets. we're still waiting to see what happens. >> so far no arrests have been made. her chants say sfpd promised more patrols along union street especially at night. new overnight, the ntsb is investigating the cause of this plane crash at the santa barbara airport. fortunately all seven people on board got out safely. the aircraft was a c-130 typically used for disaster relief. it was coming from santa maria where it stopped after departing from hilo, hawaii. witnesses say fuel was spilling from the aircraft after part of the wing broke off. a new report shows many taxi drivers could be parking their cabs for good. new at 6:00, a record-breaking voyage that started right here in san francisco. now we are hearing from the man who paddled all the way to

let's take a look at what's going on with neighborhood temperatures. low to mid 60s through most of the tri-valley. we have pleasanton at 59 along with pleasant hill. then we've got 74 in antioch, 67 in pittsburg and brentwood. take you to mountain view and down to san jose, low 60s there. in the hills of los gatos 71. low to mid 50s, cool in the north bay. west wind and fog all over the golden gate bridge. sunny spots and calmer at the beaches. afternoon too hot to be walking the pets on that hot pavement. in the bay a light breeze and temperatures above average with the strong sunshine. peninsula 50s through 7:00. in the mid 70s at 11:00. low to mid 80s from noon through about 6:00. as far as the south bay, 60s at 7:00, mid 80s at noon, near 90

in the afternoon. down to 82 at 7:00. our last stop, mid 60s at 7:00, mid 90s by noon, triple digits for about three to four hours this afternoon in our east bay valleys. mike, that is looking hot. on the freeways it's been great. however, there is a new crash reported in the north bay, westbound 37 near skaggs island. already off to the right-hand side. we're picking up some slowing approaching the scene there on westbound 37. just a heads up in the kensington neighborhood in the east bay, there's a water project going on, coventry road and valley road will be closed. there will be closures for the next 45 days. residents will see lots of slowing in the area. also in pacifica, overnight road work, northbound highway 1, one lane will be closed between fassler avenue overnight tonight and tomorrow night. westbound 580, the slowest spot, tracy to dublin, almost an hour. taxi drivers in san

francisco are struggling to make a living. according to the chronicle, about half of them want to sell their permits which allow them to run their own cabs. those permits are called medallions and they cost $250,000 each. many drivers are in dead trying to pay them off. some cab drivers told the chronicle they've received foreclosure notices on their loans. another candidate enters the presidential race. this one is a republican. it could be the first crime ever committed in outer space. th

at 6:15, a brazen robbery caught on camera. this happened in new york city. watch as the robbers tie up workers at a jewelry store. police say this happened yesterday in midtown manhattan. you can see in this surveillance video, three men, at least two holding guns. they tie up the employees before taking items from the store. investigators are not made any arrests. president trump now has two republican challengers, former illinois congressman joe walsh is going after the republican nomination in 2020. >> i'm running because he's unfit. somebody needs to step up, and there needs to be an alternative. the country is sick of this guy's tantrum.

he's a child. >> walsh made the announcement in an exclusive interview on "this week with george stephanopoulos." he was once a supporter of mr. thumb. walsh joins former massachusetts governor bill welch in challenging mr. trump. you're not going to believe this. this man's journey started right here in san francisco. here is antonio de la rosa, the first person to cross the pacific ocean as a standup paddle border. the 42-year-old left san francisco on june 9th. after 76 days he arrived in hawaii on saturday. look at the lays. he covered 2,500 miles of open ocean using wind and current. he had this boat called the ocean defender a combo paddle board and small boat. it has a sleeping cap bin, storage bins and solar panels for power.

a solid deck of clouds today. down in the south bay, it sticks out and everybody is in the low to mid 90s. gilroy 98. santa cruz 82 degrees. head up the peninsula, everybody in the mid to upper 80s. redwood city at 90. millbrae at 82. the warmer than average ocean water along the coast, mid to per 70s downtown, south south sh francisco, sausalito. cloverdale and northward, some 100s there. comfortable from richmond and berkeley, upper 70s. 80s everywhere else along the east bay shore. upper 90s to low 100s. good thing tonight, we'll drop into the mid 50s to low 60s in most neighborhoods. but wednesday morning and thursday morning with that humidity, it's going to be a little muggy and warmer during the overnight hours. the afternoon hours, temperatures pretty close to average. by friday, we lose the humidity. frances? >> mike, not too many accidents to slow you down.

there's fog across the golden gate bridge. be careful coming out of the north way heading into san francisco. elsewhere, not too big of a delay. you will find one at the bay bridge toll plaza which is backed up past the 880 overcrossing. this is 680 in walnut creek. southbound traffic on the right. that's looking good past north main towards geary and highway 24. a heads-up, overnight road work will shut down highway 4 at 680 from 10:00 tonight to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. if you have overnight trip plans, keep that in mind. right now westbound 4 slow as well, antioch to concord, 31 minutes. if i paddle boarded to hawaii, i would expect to lose way more than ten pounds. >> i'm not shaming him. he looks great. i was just thinking -- i don't know how things work, but okay. delays with this live camera shot. you'll find delays at the bay bridge toll plaza backed up past the 880 overcrossing this morning. one accident on westbound 37 near skaggs island. it's off to the right-hand side. chp is on route right now. you can see there's slowing westbound 37 as you make your way out of vallejo. we have breaking news right now from sky 7. you are seeing a house fire. this is at blue bell drive and buck skin road in livermore. >> we can see active flames here, the side of the house just scorched. smoke in that area as well. you can see significant damage to the back yard and several firefighters on scene. it looks like they're at the frot of the house making entry perhaps into the garage area. but that white material at the bottom of the screen also looks like they've already put material to dampen much of the flames that we were seeing or

had reported earlier. >> this is obviously still an active scene. right next to marlin poundk. 're rkinto gher more have started.bout how this abc 7's jobina fortson is headed to the scene. this is a neighborhood with lots of homes. it doesn't look like it's spread to the house next door. obviously they sprayed it down. you can see the roof is covered in water. there is damage to the next-door neighbor's side yard. we'll continue to monitor this in livermore. we also have developing news in the east bay, a shooting involving an off duty officer. >> this happened in el cerrito on mosier lane. police say it was a san francisco police officer who apparently fired the shots. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us on that scene. amy? >> reporter: good morning. they've just taken down the crime scene tape and reopened mosier lane at kearny street. they were here all night gathering evidence, but they've

just reopened this to traffic. you can see there is still a police officer here, though, at the scene. this happened at 10:00 at mosier and kearny. plies have not said what led up to the shooting. they're still interviewing the shooter who they say is an off-duty san francisco police officer. police say the whan who was shot is in his 40s. they have not released any other identifying information about him. he is expected to survive. we asked if the man who was shot was armed. >> not with a firearm. other type of weapon, but we won't describe what it is just yet. >> what did the officer say? >> i will not be able to discuss that just yet. >> reporter: this is right across the street from a strip mall. it has a 24-hour fitness anchoring the shopping center. there were people around who heard the shots which made it a little tough for police to find the men involved when they got here. they say the first calls that came in say it happened in the

gym or in front of it. it was a bit chaotic for them. they say the shooting happened in front of an apartment building on the sidewalk. they don't know whether this appears to be a justified shooting or if the officer could face arrest. they've been investigating and interviewing him. they wouldn't say if he lives in the area. the san francisco police department hasn't commented. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. now to a story you'll only see on abc 7, a san francisco co-man says her car was broken into but not in the way she would have expected. >> marjorie kaplan parked her prius a block from her pacific heights apartment on friday. when she returned, she said she hardly recognized it was her car because it was disassembled and someone stole the very heavy battery. >> you go looking for your car and you know what it looks like. >> yeah. >> it didn't look like my car. i looked like a jill lop pi car. they took the seat out, cut the

wires and removed the battery which i understand weighs 180 pounds. >> kaplan reported the incident to police, but she doesn't believe any of the security cameras on the street captured that break-in. 6:36. in the last few minutes harvey weinstein arrived in a new york city courtroom to face another environment. prosecutors say it involves soprano's actress annabella a sciorra who claims he raped her in 1993. weinstein's attorney is requesting the trial be moved out of new york city. the legal team argues the intense media scrutiny would make it impossible for jurors to give him a fair trial. weinstein denied all accusations of non-consensual sex. president trump remains in fran to wrap up the g7 summit. he's already announced that next year's summit will likely take place in miami, possibly at his golf resort. global stock markets are falling as the trade were with china

escalates. president trump says negotiations are back on after china reached out last night about resuming talks. he's hopeful a deal will be made. >> i think they want to do something. they've been hurt very badly, but they understand this is the right thing to do. i have great respect for it. i have great respect for it. this is a very positive development for the world. >> also at the summit, mr. trump and japanese prime minister shinzo abe reached an agreement on agriculture. the president is dismissing a report he suggested using nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes from hitting the u.s. axios reports he's floated the idea. one source says mr. trump asked why a bomb couldn't be dropped into the eye of a hurricane to disrupt it as it moves across the atlantic. the president is calling the report fake news.

new york senator kerstirste gillibrand will try to boost her numbers in san francisco. she's one of 21 candidates vying for the democratic presidential nomination. tonight she'll be at manny's on 16th street in valencia for a meet the 2020 candidate event. tickets to the event are sold online through eventbright. >> san francisco's ban on vaping products is pushing for a ban. supporters argue wording that includes, quote, required fda authorization is misleading because e-cigarette sales are legal under federal law. prop c would allow the sale of vaping and e-cigarette products in san francisco and introduce a way to regulate them. new developments regarding the wildfire burning north of redding in shasta county. evacuation orders have been lifted. the fire is now 80% contained. the mountain fire has burned 600
