the ocean. this is millions of people affected by either tropical storm force winds, hurricane winds, dangerous rip currents, flooding rain possible. it's going to be a massive storm, guys. >> incredible to see how it hugs the coast like that. is morning we're also taking a live look outside at our roadways. here is our emeryville camera. a few people slowly making their way on the road this labor day and taking a live look at the golden gate bridge. not so many people here. >> hi two people. >> looking as expected with the holiday. on to developing news, the search still on for a man who rammed his car through the gate and drove onto the tarmac at oakland international airport. >> and last seen jumping into san francisco bay. abc 7's amy hollyfield live at the airport. >> reporter: good morning. there are questions about how this could happen. an airport spokesperson in oakland says they will not be discussing the airport's security plan. meanwhile, law enforcement is

looking for this man trying to find him. authorities say he did not stop for a traffic stop yesterday afternoon and then started speeded down an oakland airport access road and then rammed through a gate at 50 miles per hour and made his way onto the tarmac. they chased him for about two miles and then they said he got out of his car and jumped into the bay. police are trying to figure out his intentions. >> at this point we can't draw a nexus to a terrorist event. it's very suspicious, this gentleman's behavior. >> reporter: they say he was last seen driving -- he was seen driving around the terminals before the incident happened. inside his car they found air soft weapons, hoods and max. the sheriff's office's is working with the fbi to try and figure out why this man was in the area and why this happened. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

>> thanks, amy. developing news this morning, democrats are pressuring president trump for new restrictions on guns after the mass shooting in odessa, texas over the weekend. the effort comes as victims are being remembered ♪ i once was lost but now i'm found ♪ >> hundreds of people gathered to remember the seven killed and 22 people hurt in saturday's shooting. authorities say seth aaron ator went on a shooting rampage after he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation. they say he was armed with an assault rifle and fired randomly at victims. he was killed in a shootout with police. "the new york times" reports that ator was fired from his trucking job hours before the shooting. this labor day holiday you may be paying more for items from china. a 15% tariff in imports is now in effect. it applies to about $112 billion

of chinese imports. that includes technology like air pods and the apple watch. the iphone doesn't appear to be impacted at least at this time. but it could be subject to tariffs that will start in december. that increase in three months reportedly includes a 25% tariff on cars imported to the u.s. from china. jurors in the ghost ship trial will be back from recess tomorrow. >> the judge has to decide how to handle jurors who have vacations scheduled this month. three jurors were replaced with alternates. derick almena and max harris face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deadly warehouse fire in 2016. happening today, democratic presidential candidate tom steyer will speak at a labor day picnic in oakland. the san francisco-based billionaire will spend time talking to labor members and union leaders.

both of you. this is one of the most intense storms ever recorded in the atlantic. they're issuing more evacuation notices later this morning in north and central florida. once the wind gusts hit 35 miles per hour, bijs like the one behind me are going to shut down. wind gusts breaking 220 miles per hour. storm surge hitting 20 feet as hurricane dorian bashed the bahamas for nearly 24 hours. abc's marcus moore riding out the devastating stofrmt. >> we've seen large pieces of debris flying in the other direction. looks like we just lost power. >> reporter: scenes of utter devastation starting to come in. the bahamian prime minister calling sunday the saddest and worst day tweeting, we're facing a hurricane we've never seen in the bahamas. please pray for us. the strongest hurricane on record to strike the region now inching toward the florida coastline. >> category 5 is something that

residents told to evacuate. serena martial, abc 7 news. >> mike has been watching dorian since it started forming. looks like it's getting bigger, kind of slower. we have to see what the impact is going to be? >> already devastating for the bahamas, but potential devastation for the southeast. here is live doppler 7. you can see freeport there and high rock. it's sitting right there. this is where the fastes winds are. this island is just getting destroyed. it's going to rearrange the island. it may take parts of the island away. it may uncover new ports of the island. you can see the feeder bands all the way up to daytona beach. we're off to 15 to 25 miles per hour along the southeast florida coast. the reason why the carolinas, georgia, they're all worried is

because this thing spins counterclockwise. it's pushing all that water into that corner, if you will. that's going to make the sea rise and rise and rise and rise. it may even cause some of the rivers to run backwards and that will cause major flooding. back at home low to mid 60s along the east bay shore. here is a look from sutro tower. if you're going to be out today here at home, bay play, small craft advisory all the way through the delta. it's going to be bright and mild at our beaches and strong sunshine still out there if you're going to try to find cooler weather. take a look at the microclimates coming up. first, back to you guys. >> traffic is looking great this morning. want to give you a couple of glimpse outside our walnut creek camera. everything moving very smoothly. a good morning t my hometown of

take a look at some more neighborhoods. this is the south bay. near 80 at 11:00 and mid 80s for the better part of the afternoon hours. that's after starting at 64 and ending up at 77 at 7:00. in the east bay even warmer. 82 at 11:00. low to mid 90s through 6:00. still 86 at 7:00. at least you don't have humidity to deal with in so cal. you can see the falling apart of the showers and thunderstorms. still a flash flood watch until 8:00 this evening for nearly 1 million people. not the way you would expect to round out a holiday weekend down in so cal. 104 in palm springs, 90 in l.a., 93 in fresno. 82 with mostly sunny conditions in tahoe. kumasi. starting tomorrow b.a.r.t. will stop selling paper tickets at the powell street station.

powell will become the third station systemwide that will only sell clipper cards. b.a.r.t. has clipper only at 19th street street in oakland and the embarcadero. you can still use paper b.a.r.t. tickets to enter and exit all stations. dozens of people fill the streets of berkeley for duelling protests. abc 7 news was there as a larger group that billed itself as being against fascism and racism marched to the uc berkeley campus. they say this was in response to a smaller contingent that said they were marching against marxism. we spoke to the organizer of the no to marxism rally and a man who said he got into a debate with her. >> this isn't free speech going on. this is a communist hearing taking place. if you're pro american, you're likely to be attacked. >> my idea was to not only

educate her and inform her, but help her realize why there was a turnout against her today. >> we have not heard of any arrests. they have been standing tall for generations of san franciscans. abc 7 reporter kate larsen has a story from the presidio. >> reporter: planted by the u.s. army in the 19th century, these monterey pines have been standing for 130 years in san francisco. their beginning is rooted in an army major's plans to build a forest in the presidio. their end is about returning to roots that naturally exist in the park. >> i'm all for restoring the presidio back to his natural habitat. >> reporter: noel chasse supports it. vulnerable to breaking or falling especially during a winter storm. >> we have concerns on high windy days. i try to say stay away from the forest because we don't know

whether or not there's a safety issue with the trees. >> reporter: the three acre monterey pine stand is directly behind the presidio landmark apartments where residents are acutely aware of the tenuous timber. >> the tree made this huge sound. nobody knew what it was. people came looking and calling the office. we were frightening. >> reporter: last month one of the pines crashed into a metal gate. >> i'm not for taking trees down, but if it's a safety is e issue, go right ahead. >> reporter: the trees will come down next week. it will take place on weekdays for the next month or so. after the trees have been removed, the presidio trust says they'll be replaced with native plants. the tree removal is part of on going maintenance. several other pine groves were removed this summer. reforestation from years past is taking shape and dying trees live on, repurposed as wooden

mid 90s from los gatos, morgan hill and gilroy. we're mid 70s around millbrae, san mateo, and then low 80s for the rest of the peninsula. we've got upper 60s to near 70 along the coast. low to mid 70s for downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. near 70 north bay coast. near 90 to the low and mid 90s through the north bay valleys. along the east bay shore in the 80s, to the mid 80s. as you head into the east bay valleys, air conditioners working overtime again. low to mid 90s here. you can see the sea breeze tonight making a push. the cloud cover slipping along the coast and into parts of the bay. temperatures tonight mid 50s to mid 60s. a little better sleeping weather than last night. here is my accuweather seven-day forecast. we're still a little warmer than average inland tomorrow. then mid 60s, 70s and 80s, that's average to a little below average all the way through the

just showing you what's happened over the last six hours, not much, which is very scary for places like free ports, near the outer bands -- we're getting 165-mile-per-hour sustained winds. you can see it's barely moving at one mile per hour. it is 4:53. fewer birds are breeding on the farallon islands off the coast of san francisco. that has some researchers concerned. according to the marin ij,

researchers found a lower-than-expected number of sea birds. they say all 13 species that nest on the islands are breeding poorly. researchers say this is because many sea birds can't find food nearby. san francisco firefighters and the coast guard rescued eight boaters who became stranded on the bay near treasure island. their sailboat became disabled before 6:00 last night and the captain radioed for help saying the crew wasn't able to navigate the boat in the high winds and waves. everyone hopped off the vessel and the boat was towed to the south beach marina in san francisco. california's best sighicalists will spend the day riding around the streets of psych. the 34th annual race gets under way in a few hours. it will close streets around levi plaza, embarcadero. the event includes ten races. the first starts at 8:00 this morning. the final pro race peddles
