the earlier fatal accident has cleared but there's a motorcycle crash near gilman blocking the left lanes. amazingly it's only causing about 15-minute delays. i think that's because a lot of folks avoided the eastshore freeway. the bay bridge toll plaza has filled in. it's backed up into the maze right now. you can see that 680 a little slower than usual because of the eastshore freeway. we're still the peninsula north 101 at marsh. thank you, frances. this morning ghost ship master tenant derick almena is in a dublin jail. >> 29-year-old max harris was found not guilty yesterday. the jury was hung unable to reach a verdict for almena. here is a look at what could happen next. almena faces a possible retrial, already has a hearing set for october 4th. a civil suit is moving forward. the trial for that was set for may. that could change if there's another criminal trial. families of the victims

filed the civil suit. they allege that pg&e, the warehouse landlord and city of oakland and others are all responsible for the deadly 2016 fire. as almena remains locked up in the santa rita jail, 29-year-old harris is free. >> as amanda del castillo reports, harris' release was quick and private. >> reporter: the man who once faced 39 years in prison left privately and as a free man. >> what's next? healing. that's all i can predict. healing. some real food, the comfort and support of his friends at any hour. >> reporter: friend and long-time supporter danielle silva said she always knew harris was innocent. in december 2016 air his acted as creative director of the ghost ship. he was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter the summer following the deadly fire. on thursday after a month's long

trial, harris was acquitted on all 36 counts, one for each person killed. >> max is incredibly sad and srry for them. he's always expressed his remorse, his wish that he could have done something different to save someone that died that night. >> i can't imagine the healing that he's going to have to go through. he lost seven friends in one night. breaking news into the abc 7 news room. hurricane dorian has just made landfall in north carolina. this just coming in from the national hurricane center in miami. the storm made landfall in cape hatteras as a category 1 storm. the threat of flooding and storm surge remains imminent. here is a live look this morning from wilmington, north carolina. you can see how strong that is coming in on the shore there. dorian caused flooding and at least 20 reported tornadoes in north and south carolina. at least 30 people in the bahamas have died because of the storm. a search and rescue task force from california is in

north carolina to help out during hurricane dorian. it includes first responders from all across the bay area including san francisco, oakland and menlo park. this morning the team is in charlotte and they are there ready to rescue people who may have become trapped in floodwaters. of course, meteorologist mike nicco is here tracking the storm. looking at it's specially as it makes landfall. the eyewall going over the center of the storm, over cape hatteras. the outer banks getting buried if not rearranged by the storm surge, up to seven feet. winds sustained at about 90 miles per hour gusting to around 115. as happens when we get a storm that comes through this area, it rearranges the land a little bit. things will be different ones the storm passes. the fastest winds in the red. you can see it over the outer banks. it's going to keep moving away as we head throughout the daven over the open ocean, off the new

inside. however, the flames were too much and the firefighting equipment was already engulfed. >> it's devastating. we're all so saddened. the crew is dealing with it. of course our family, we're dealing with it, of this terrible loss. >> all but one of the victims has been recovered from the wreckage. that final person still missing. the ntsb is investigating what started the fire. a former nfl player was among 12 defendants accused of taking part in a million dollar cell phone theft ring. langley was charged along with 11 others with 61 felony counts including robbery and grand theft. investigators say the defendant would rush up on fedex delivery drivers as they pulled up to the stores, grabbed the boxes and then take off on cars with paper plates. the defendants have pleaded not guilty. oakland unified school

district officials will unveil a makeover for a library vandalized five months ago. vandals caused thousands of dollars in damages at manzanita community school. two elementary schools share the same library. the bright new look comes courtesy of the college football playoff foundation. the bay area host committee and the pac 12 which selected the schools after getting an application from the library's technician. don't be surprised if you see a lot of visitors in san francisco. >> this is the best time to visit the city. the san francisco travel association expects a record 26.2 million tourists to visit the tourists, a 1.5% increase from last year. visitors are expected to spend morme money on their vacations, an estimated $9.5 billion this year. one of sfo's busiest runways is about to close. get your vocal cords warmed

right now. northbound 101 is slow through palo alto up towards marsh, and 280 has been looking good all morning. no major problems in the south bay. we've been tracking the eastshore freeway all morning. there are still delays here. the earlier fatal accident at powell has cleared as well as the motorcycle crash. as you can see this live shot here at gilman, it's now cleared off to the right-hand side. there's still delays there, but not as horrible as earlier this morning. bay bridge toll plaza backed up into the maze. another heads-up for travelers. one of sfo's busiest runways will close, it will be like that for 20 days. the closure is expected to cause major delays and cancellations. if you fly united, they will wave change fees during the closure if you want to reroute your trip and avoid the airport. the runway reopened september 27th. the other big hint is to take a

if you're planning on going tonight, you might want to take public transit. parking is slim. anser hassan has the way to get there. >> reporter: good morning guys. a lot of buzz around tonight's concert, metallica, the first ever to perform here. the chase center may be new, but faces a very old problem in san francisco, traffic and parking. now on tuesday, the golden state warriors held a ribbon cutting ceremony. metallica has been tweeting about the concert all week, calling it a must-see event. how are the 18,000 people who have tickets expected to get here? know if you plan to drive, traffic and parking will be a nightmare. the chase center only has 900 parking spots. the nearby ucsf parking lots will be closed to concert goers. sfmta says parking on nearby streets will only be available to people with residential parking permits. if you do happen to find metered

each other's arms. tensions ran high as the verdicts were read especially for the family and friends. >> defense attorneys had a very different sentiment. >> it was ridiculous that they charged max in the first place. it was almost comical. he was a scapegoat for them. >> some of the victims' family members were angry when they left the courthouse. >> there's a man walking out there that should be in jail right now. he was willing to take a plea deal for six years. you tell me that's a not guilty person. >> i'm just upset. my son and his girlfriend died. is this in vain? i've been here almost every day for over five months for the jury to come back with this. it's just frustrating. >> derick almena is still in custody due back on october 4th for a possible retrial.

the last couple mornings, the commute got off to a horrible start. how are we doing now? >> we still have a few accidents but better than a couple hours ago. it was horrible this morning. there is a new crash reported on the peninsula as well, northbound 1 near the shopping mall. an accident also at the bay bridge toll plaza, possibly in lane number five. this is backed up into the maze. it was a mess getting there this morning because of an earlier fatal crash westbound 80 at powell that has cleared. southbound 680 in walnut creek is also very crowded as well. some people headed over here as an alternate route. you will find lots of slowing mostly in the east bay. there's an accident southbound 880 at 23right now seems to be y okay. also north 101 at marsh on the peninsula there's some slow traffic as you make your way past palo alto because of a four-car crash. and that is also a little bit sluggish. here is a live shot in the north

storm surge. here is a look at how far it goes to the north. clouds from boston to charleston. a cold front sweeping in from canada that will push dorian off towards the east. it will be out of here pretty soon. temperatures low to upper 90s through the central valley. 83 in san diego. 84 in yosemite. tahoe, temperatures near average, mid to upper 70s until sunday when we're down to 69. there's tense backlash over a plarn that would force north bay homeowners to rip up their plants and trees to trito prevent wildfires. some mill valley residents say it goes too far. >> last night an overflow crowd demanded to speak about the vegetation ordinance that would require most residents to relandscape around their homes. the ordinance would require roughly 75% of homeowners to create three feet of so-called hardscaping. that means concrete, dirt or gravel around their house. in addition, it would require
