relacaptof.s. as trfomon hours.>> of the t so sd golden ray crew on land in this video captured by the coast guard. the four all smiles and relief following the daring rescue. coast guard rescue crews working for hours. >> their condition is relatively good for having spent, you know, close to 30, 34 or 35 hours in the conditions they were in. >> reporter: the desperate rescue success attributed to salvagers locating the men after hearing them tap on the ship. >> it's more important that the crew knew where to go so they could touch the steel on the outside of the ship to make those taps. >> reporter: the four crew members had originally been feared lost. >> the cargo ship just flipped over in the channel.

you need to call the coast guard. >> reporter: the massive cargo ship carrying more than 4,000 cars made a turn, capsized and caught fire. 20 of the crew members were almost immediately pulled to safety, but rescue teams working in sweltering temperatures that felt like 120 degrees drilling a hole three inches at a time to the hull's steel plates. inside the ship, even hotter. but 36 hours after those first calls for help -- >> all vessels are requested to keep a sharp lookout and assist if possible. >> reporter: -- all 24 crew members of the turned over 650-foot ship accounted for. the rescuers proud of the happy ending they orchestrated. now the work is turning towards figuring out what went wrong but also removing that large ship from that busy waterway. it could take weeks or months. there are also environmental concerns as pools of oil can be seen and smelled up to a half mile away. kenneth, janai. >> all right. on to the next phase. serena marshall, thank you. new defiance from north korea. the country has fired two more

unidentified projectiles into the sea. it's the tenth launch since may and came just hours after a top north korean official said they're willing to resume nuclear talks if washington comes to the table with acceptable proposals. in response, president trump said, quote, we'll see what happens. and new details about a cia informant in moscow who had to be pulled out of russia after exposing the plot to interfere in the 2016 election. "the new york times" reports the informant was a midlevel russian official who rose to the upper ranks at the kremlin but "the times" says the cia pulled the informant out of russia in 2017 when questions from the media endangered his safety. the cia denies that those safety concerns were the result of the trump administration mishandling intelligence. now to president trump lashing out during a campaign rally in north carolina last night. he made it clear that his eyes are set on 2020 and the democrats. in the meantime, he's facing controversy in washington with calls for his commerce secretary wilbur ross to resign. with 2020 on his mind --

about warren's surge. >> the president's campaign telling me tonight there is no denying senator warren has been on the rise but say at this point they have not identified any particular democratic candidate as a threat. >> reporter: other candidates [ crowd chanting ] yang is among the top ten democratic candidates preparing for thursday night's abc news debate. meanwhile, back in washington, new fallout from the president's claim that hurricane dorian was threatening alabama. >> alabama could even be in for at least some very strong winds and something more than that. >> reporter: this morning there are new calls for commerce secretary wilbur ross to resign after "the new york times" reported ross threatened to fire employees at the national oceanic and atmospheric administration for contradicting the president by saying dorian was not threatening alabama. the commerce department calls "the new york times" report false adding secretary ross did not threaten to fire any noaa staff over forecasting and public statements.

[ applause ] at a weather conference monday, a show of support from members of the national weather service's birmingham office which first corrected the president. >> the birmingham office did this to stop public panic to ensure public safety. >> the top scientist at noaa says he's investigating the agency's response and whether it violated any policies. the trump administration is laying out requirements for residents of the bahamas who want to evacuate to the u.s. after hurricane dorian. the move comes after more than 100 people were kicked off a ferry to florida because they didn't have visas. new u.s. guidelines issued last night call for all bahamas residents to have a government issued i.d. such as a passport. meanwhile, we have new information about the extent of the destruction in the northern bahamas. the power company says every power pole in a 16-mile stretch of land has been obliterated. abc's marcus moore is there. he in mah oueyple this ferry ts headed to nassau as part of a massive effort to evacuate

people from this island left devast >> the official death toll is now up to 50 people and even as that's expected to climb, thousands are believed to be missing. time now for a look at your weather for this tuesday morning. heavy winds in santa barbara, california, have pushed four small brush fires into one larger one and forced some evacuations and temporarily closed part of the 101 freeway. thousands also lost power which was expected to be restored overnight. looking at today's weather, temperatures across the west, they're cooling off today. no longer triple digits in the phoenix area, but the heat wave continues across much of the south and in the northeast temperatures will be slightly below normal today but not bad. big news in the fast food industry. coming up, the chain that will

>> welcome back. we turn now to dr. oz who's getting personal revealing his mother has alzheimer's. >> he says he feels guilty that he missed the warning signs and he hopes his experience will now help others. >> i'm thrilled to be back. >> reporter: he's known as america's tv doctor and this morning, dr. oz is opening up saying he missed the signs of his own mother's alzheimer's disease. >> i blame myself because i realized that if i had found it earlier, it could have helped certainly delay or stall it. the clues were there. >> reporter: dr. oz says he and his family started realizing something was wrong when his mother started behaving irrationally. >> we all saw parts of my mom falling apart. her makeup wasn't perfect, my sister would see that. she would start giving away things to people she didn't really know. another sister saw that. >> reporter: alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the u.s. with 5.8 million americans living with the disease. nearly 14 million are expected to be living with it by 2050.

doctors say the earlier alzheimer's can be diagnosed, the better chance the treatments have of working. >> this is a painful picture to look at because my mom doesn't remember daphne anymore. gosh, they had a good time together. >> dr. oz calls it a chameleon of a disease. experts say symptoms of alzheimer's can go unnoticed because family members are often in denial. >> there's definitely emotional bias when it comes to spotting warning signs with their own loved ones. it's painful to accept, so in a 46 way it's sort of you're self-selecting. your brain and heart doesn't really want to believe it so you don't put the two and two together. >> you don't want to admit it because it's too painful. >> i'm going to lose my mom twice. i'm going to lose her as the woman that knows me. >> so hard. dr. oz shared some early symptoms people should not ignore. they include challenges in planning, difficulty completing tasks, confusing time and place and misplacing things. the family that owns purdue pharma, maker of

filed for divorce after 31 years of divorce. he says it makes it impossible for them to live together. we have a passing to note now. actor john wesley has died. he was known for his role as dr. hoover on "the fresh prince of bel-air." more recently appeared on "medium" and "ncis." he died after a long battle with cancer. he was 72. from there we turn to sports and good news. the red sox fans got quite a surprise at fenway. david ortiz, big papi, threw out the first pitch last night against the yankees. it was his first time at fenway since he was shot back this year in june. ortiz thanked the red sox for e red sox for their support calling them his real family. a wild ending for the first the season.t football game of the texans and saints exchanged the lead twice in the last 40 seconds. houston scored on a touchdown pass to take a one-point lead and then new orleans hit a 58-yard field goal as time ran out. the saints won, 30-28. and in the second game of the night, the raiders held on

depending on where you are from our inland neighborhoods over to the coast and temperatures running from 51 in santa rosa to looks like oakland is the warm spot at 62 degrees. let's see where we end up this afternoon. 80s in the north bay, inland, east bay and morgan hill. 64 to 69 from the coast into san francisco. take a look at the heat wave coming up. the bay bridge toll plaza is only backed up to cash paying lanes until the end of the parking lot. a crash eastbound 12 at red top -- before red top road. an earlier car fire is on the right-hand shoulder but the right lane is shut down with a fire truck at the scene. we'll check out 680, taillights moving southbound. it is looking good but there's road work scheduled between highway 4 and 680. you might find some of the connection ramps closed until 5:00 or 6:00 this morning.

"the wall street journal" says apple will release three phones. the iphone 11 pro, iphone 11r and iphone 11r max.
