we do have a few brake lights towards the high rise. otherwise you're looking at a 14-minute drive across from san mateo yo over towards foster city. we'll look at the golden gate bridge. southbound you have four lanes of the commute direction, and just two lanes of the northbound direction. no fog. perfectly clear out there with the almost full moon and traffic is light over the waldo grade into san francisco. we'll check on a motorcycle accident on the altamont pass in our next report. uber says the bill likely to become law that would make its drivers employees doesn't apply to them. >> and this and other gig economy companies are vowing to fight the sweeping changes. jobina fortson is live at lyft headquarters. good morning. >> good morning. lyft, uber, door dash and other gig economy companies are vowing to fight a ballot initiative that would everturn this bill

that would force them to reclassify drivers as employees. ab5 was passed by the state assembly and moved over to governor newsom's office and the governor has indicated he plans to sign it. ab5 would require gig economy companies to treat drivers like employees and provide labor protections like minimum wage, health care, compensation if you're hurt on the job. lyft's competitor uber released a statement saying this measure would not apply to them because its drivers are not part of their "usual course of business." they define that as being a technology platform for several different types of digital marketplaces. >> we're hiring the best campaign team available and working to expand the coalition to include other businesses who also face uncertainty in the wake of ab5. we're confident california voters and the millions of riders and drivers who use our

mental man with a pry bar. officers say hall refused to drop the metal bar and kept running towards them even after being hit by bean bag rounds.icr weapons. three men and a woman are in a santa clara county jail accused in the death of an elderly men. san jose police took these four into custody. they are bud landers, theron brooks, shaqueoia brooks, and imari harris. officers were initially called to a home on montecito drive for a report of a burglary in progress. 84-year-old nghia nguyen was found with life threatening injuries. he died at the scream. look at this huge car fire on highway 101.

this was in santa clara. no word on the cause of the crash or if anyone was hurt. here on abc 7 news we are committed to building a better bay area, that means focusing on issues important to you like rent and housing. state lawmakers just took a big step towards preventingen it na preventing tenants from experiencing rent hikes. >> i spent three years couch surfing with my son. >> reporter: in 2014 sasha gram says her family was forced into homelessness after being evicted from her home in richmond following a 300% rent increase. >> rent was 550 and then to $1500. i scraped the mop togetheney to. i was like okay, this is the rent. then i was told i had to leave. >> reporter: on wednesday a new bill was approved limiting rent increases to 5%.

january 1st of next year. the bay area's housing crisis affects all of us. that's why we dedicated a week to covering the topic from issues for raernenters to homeowners. day six of the runway closure at sfo. you can see the x that blocks the air traffic from landing at that particular runway. it's led to thousands of flight delays and cancellations. already this morning there are 22 delays and 75 cancellations. run ray 28l is closed as part of this project to fix cracks in the pavement. that runway serves 68% of airport traffic. ap airpo an airport spokesperson says the runway is ahead of schedule. tomorrow san francisco's iconic cable cars will stop running for ten days. >> shuttle buses will be offered

no. the ntsb is expected to release a preliminary report today on the deadly boat tragedy in southern california. 34 people were killed. the coast dpaurd juguard just i guidelines including limiting the up supervised charging of lithium ion batteries and power strips being used. the trump administration is working to ban flavored vaping products after a sixth person in the u.s. died from lung disease related to e-cigarette use. health and human services said they are a few weeks away from the policy, it would force manufacturers from shipping flavors like mint and bubble gum. >> kids are getting access to these products, despite our best efforts we have to remove these attractive flavored products from the marketplace. >> san francisco became the first major u.s. city to ban the

let me expand upon that chance of showers and cool autumn-like weather. the area of low pressure is coming from the bering sea. it will ride down through the gulf of alaska to our neighborhoods. here it is sunday at 9:00, pushing some rain into the northern part of the state. waking up monday morning, we could have light rain, drizzle and a steady shower or two up in the north bay. this isn't a great chance, but it is the middle of september. we'll keep that chance going through the afternoon hours if we see measurable rain, it will be less than 0.10 inches. amazon's expansion will stretch into marin county. >> there are plans to open up an

was shopping inside a grocery store. >> you can see them targeting her, making off with her wallet. now police need to catch these people. amy hollyfield is live with this. good morning. >> good morning. shop here's were as outraged as you are when they saw the video, but especially when they saw who the victim was. take a look. we have this video. you can see an elderly woman in a pink sweater, she was the target. you can see in this surveillance video, a woman tries to get close to her. she is interrupted by other shoppers, then she grabs the wallet and then seconds later both suspects are seen leaving the store. police say they have not seen these two people before. >> at this point our investigation is ongoing. we have not linked them to other similar crimes. this type of crime we have had in the past. but at this point we have not linked these two suspects with our other investigations.

was able to admit its mistake and fire persky. it's a wake-up call. >> he has lost his job. he has lost his pension. now he's trying to rebuild his life having done nothing wrong. now he's out of a job. i'm outraged by this. >> the school district said it made the decision in the best interest of students and the school community. persky issued a statement saying though i'm disappointed with the decision, it was a privilege to coach the team if only for a short time. i wish all the players the best. happening today, a murder case which was called one of the most sensational crimes in the peninsula is set to go to trial. tiffany li and her boyfriend, kaveh bayat, they are accused of murdering the father of her two children in 2016. her $35 million bail is said to be one of the top ten highest bails ever in the country. prosecutors say that li and bayat killed keith green, a former boyfriend and the father of l's two children in the

garage of li's hillsborough home. they were reportedly involved in a messy custody battle. the b.a.r.t. board of directors is set to discuss and vote on a proposal to buy a new building for its headquarters. the proposal is to spend 2$227 million to buy a building across the street from its current headquarters. the agency is preparing for its rent to increase by 60% and they want to save money. b.a.r.t.'s lease at the kaiser center in oakland will expire in 221. two soaring beams of light paid a moving tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terror attack. the tribute in light represents the twin towers of the world trade center which collapsed in the attack 18 years ago. the beams shined until dawn and can be seen up to 60 miles away. in addition to honoring the dead, new yorkers say the lights celebrate the city's unbreakable spirit. san francisco's central subway project hits another

fire threat. that does change sunday into monday. temperatures will be running around 80, warmer than average for friday and saturday. temperatures will drop to 73 for sunday. new details involving the central subway project in san francisco. according to the examiner the station in chinatown is expected to open in june of 2021. transportation officials are preparing to formally announce the new opening date. it will need another year to conduct tests before starting services. the central subway project has been delayed several times. san jose is eliminating a safe parking program for people who live in their cars. a parking site was set up at seven trees community center homeless families with children a safe place to stay overnight.

the san jose spotlight reports there were concerns about safety and trash, and not many families use the site. part of our commitment to building a better bay area is focusing on issues like affordable housing, and a recent project to create more affordable housing drove many tenants from their homes in hayward. a landlord succeeded in renovating 68 apartments and creating affordable housing, but that meant many tenants could not continue to live there because they made more than that. >> just because you and your husband or wife is a teacher, or another professional doesn't mean that you can afford a $3,000 a month rent. >> now about 20 of the displaced tenants received incentives to help them find somewhere else to live, that included security deposits and even paying for their first month's rent. among the contenders for the

the southbound direction those headlights headed in the northbound direction. traffic is moving fine past the area. it must have been somebody getting pulled over or needing assistance on the side of the road. no accidents that we can see. to the richmond-san rafael bridge, a couple of cars stacked um. that's the fast track lane. the cash lanes are on the left side of the screen. stay to the right if you can. we have a bit of a backup towards there, about richmond parkway as you make your way from the richmond side towards marin county. a look at some of your drive times. we'll check your bridges. less than ten minutes from richmond to san rafael on westbound 580. san mateo bridge looking good, under 20 minutes. dumbarton bridge, less than ten minutes. the san francisco may ser making it easier for small businesses to operate in the city.
