live doppler 7 and the satellite image and also increased cloud cover this morning and some cooler temperatures right now. we even have some fog in the north bay. santa rosa visibility is down to about a fourth of a mile. we haven't seen fog much. half moon bay visibility down to two miles as well. a live shot of the san jose 6:,emperatusn the0s and 60s and most areas already starting off cooler than 24 hours ago. breezy at the coast and that will keep temperatures in the inland areas in the 70s and around the bay and much cooler inland, mid 80s this afternoon, mid 70s around the bay the coast. berkeley police are investigating a deadly hit and run near the ashby bart station. it happened just before 10:30 last night near the intersection of adlean street and beby avenue. when officers arrived they found the victim on street and police are looking for the suspect but have into the released details. the victim has not been i

identified. new details about a freeway shooting last night in vallejo, all lanes are back open this morning. abc 7 news was at the scene near magazine street and here's what we know. the shooting was first reported around 8:30 last night. the chp says a person in a car heading east was hit by at least one bullet. that person's condition is not known. the lane closure jammed up traffic all the way across the bridge about four hours later all lanes reopened. the chp has not said what led to the shooting. a tragic story in the north bay. a man has been arrested for murder after a child was found dead inside a santa rosa home. police say a woman went to check on people at a home yesterday. when she went inside she discovered a man and baby both unresponsive. she then called poli. officers say the man was unconscious in a room lying next to a 13-month-old boy who had died. the man was taken to a hospital and has been arrested. police say there were no signs of physical violence at the

scene but there were signs of recent drug use near the child. investigators believe the man's actions caused the death of the young boy, however the exact cause of death has not been determined. a father who was shot and killed while helping a friend break up a fight outside an oakland bar has been identified. his friends and family believe he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. abc 7 reporter lisa galishan has the story. >> my dad heard help was needed otside and he went outside and being the helpful person he was, it just ended up backfiring. >> reporter: mario perez was larger than life, a loyal person who was shot and killed around 1:00 a.m. saturday as he tried to help the owner of the laurel lounge break up a fight outside. >> mario was laying right there in the middle of 38th. >> reporter: perez, his brother and sister-in-law were shot by a man apparently starting a fight with the bar's bartender. >> out of all of them i thought he would make it.

he was talking because the lady over there wasn't saying anything. she was just laying there. another guy got shot, but i think his was minor. >> reporter: perez and his family were popular regulars at the bar, known by many as a fun loving, happy, family man. >> heart breaking to know that he's not here with us because he was my dear friend. like family to us. >> he was a beautiful person. if you knew the perezes, they were beautiful. >> reporter: right now, sadness washes over the perez family at their san leandro home they gathered to remember the man who brought so much about their lives. >> what i'll miss most about my dad is getting to do simple things with him, talk to him, sit down in that truck, learn stories, talk stories, listen to music with him. >> reporter: the man who alledgedly shot the group was s identified him. in the newsroom, abc 7 news.

now to a bizarre story we've been following this weekend. a protester arrested after throwing what appears to be blood and feminine hygiene product at senators at the capitol friday. this happened in the senate chamber during the final day of the legislative session. a local senator is telling us how it all happened. abc 7 news reporter luz pena has the details. >> reporter: as lawmakers were finalizing their work in the chamber to adjourn for the year this happened. >> the object came over my head, landed in front and a rain of fluid came down on top of me and my colleagues. >> reporter: according to senator steve glazer who represents the area of orinda and other parts of the east bay a protester threw a red liquid from the visitor's gallery and it hit at least 8 senators. senator cathleen galgiani said the protesters yelled. >>

babies. it was something like that. >> reporter: chp identified the protester as 43-year-old rebecca dalelio a resident of boulder creek near santa cruz. dl dalelio was arrested on six charges, including assault and vandalism. >> i had a drop on my head and on my clothes and, of course, on my desk. >> reporter: chp evacuated the chamber and taped off the crime scene. senators were asked to take showers and undergo medical evaluations. >> it's believed that the person who engaged in this conduct was a part of that group that we call them anti-vacciners. >> reporter: throughout the week demonstrators protested against two bills. governor gavin newsom signed on monday, by packing the hallways an disrupting hearings. the founder of freedom angels one of the groups outside the capitol denounced the act. >> we've never called for that behavior. we're peaceful mothers and fathers. >> what's your message to the protester? >> simply that that horrible contact achieved nothing. it was morally repugnant, it was politically stupid, and pragmatically you didn't affect the work of the senate. we got back to business. >> reporter: in orinda, luz pena, abc 7 news.

in the east bay, a fire did significant damage to a home and the smoke was visible from interstate 880. yesterday abc 7 news was in hayward and caught the aftermath on royal avenue near a street. the fire started at around noon and you can see the burned out garage as well as a car that went up in flames. there's no word on whether anyone was hurt or what caused this fire. a have breached itself on a san francisco beach. a large crowd gathered yesterday afternoon at aquatic park to look at it. the area has been taped off warning people to stay away from the animal. there's no word on exactly what's wrong with it or how long the sea lion has been there. we've reported several times this year on sea lines and seals becoming ill or malnourished. taking a live look right now at san francisco international airport where it seems those delays and cancellations may be easing as the main runway is under construction. runway 28 l has been closed for a week to allow crews to repair cracks in the pavement.

airport officials say the second phase of the project began yesterday. they say there were 180 delays and nine cancellations yesterday. that's down from 401 delays and 40 cancellations on friday. the runway should reopen in just under two weeks. san francisco firefighters put a few vips through their paces to see how tough working in the fire service is. a handful of elected officials and reporters put on the gear and were treated like trainees. here's abc 7 news anchor eric thomas. >> reporter: to work like a firefighter, you have to dress like one. in the protective outer wear they call turnout. first the pants and then the jacket and, of course, the boots and top it off with a surprisingly heavy helmet. after a few adjustments, of course. >> oh. >> reporter: then outside to practice a scenario. >> this is a lot of stuff to wear to do this job. >> we're about to do a search and rescue evolution. >> reporter: this rock pile simulates a collapsed building with people possibly trapped underneath.

i'm inside this mock military hospital. again, this is not real. but it certainly looks like it is. >> one, two, three, down. >> people are used to working in a trauma bay in the hospital, but it's different in the field and you treat casualties differently. you don't have as much access to supplies. >> reporter: field hospitals like these could be used in times of disaster like earthquakes or hurricanes. >> planning to work together as a team that could be applied in any scenario. >> reporter: most of the reservists across california will go back to their civilian jobs next week, better trained, ready to serve if they're needed. in dublin, cornell bernard. abc 7 news. high school and middle school students across the state may get a later start to the school day. i know this is a big topic for a lot of parents. state lawmakers on friday approved a bill that would prohibit middle schools from starting before 8:00 a.m. and high schools couldn't start before 8:30 a.m. supp t measure is needed to help deal with the epidemic of childhood sleep deprivation.

opponents say it can negatively affect before and after school programs. if the governor signs the bill the law would go into effect in 2022. this morning, vallejo has a new police chief. shawny williams who is currently a deputy chief in san jose has been named to the position. he just needs to pass a background check. williams will take over for andrew bedo who announced his retirement in june. the vallejo police department has had a rough year with drivthrough and a violent arrest of a marine veteran that was caught on video. stanford revealed it received a $50,000 from the late trafficker jeffrey epstein's foundation, couq. the gift was made in 2004 two years before epstein was first arrested for recruiting minors for prostitution and pleaded guilty in 2008. epstein was arrested for sex

temperatur a coming down. gusts up to 17 miles per hour in san francisco, even up to 20 miles per hour in fairfield. the high pressure that brought us the calm conditions over the last few days and very warm temperatures has diminished and decreased in strength. also the live shot as we look out towards the top of the transamerica tower obscured by the low clouds. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. san francisco 58, oakland 61, san jose 60 degrees. you'll see more gray skies over the bay with this live camera shot from emeryville looking out towards the bay bridge. in santa rosa it's 53 degrees where fog has developed and reduced visibility to down to a fourth of a mile. petaluma is 56, concord 61, livermore at 55 degrees. and i'm going to show you the accuweather outlook over the we've seen the clouds fill in around the bay because we have this area of low pressure to our

north. this cold front will sweep through bringing us a chance of showers tomorrow, so i'll show you the forecast animation. 7:00 this morning, we'll see low clouds, get mostly sunny conditions this afternoon and overnight the clouds fill in. tomorrow morning we could see showers through parts of the north bay like cloverdale and it sweeps through the bay area by about 9:00 to lunch time. now this model latest run shows a little bit more of an aggressive push right now between 9:00 and 12:00, when we could see the heaviest rain and then it clears out by tomorrow afternoon. also you notice the areas of pink that move through the sierra, a chance of light snow as well. so the shower potential, right now the latest system less than a quarter of an inch for some spots but it could even be less than a tenth of an inch for tomorrow. this model runs have been changing in terms of the quantity and how strong the rain will be, but napa will be maybe 0.06 of an inch, san francisco

0.2, san jose maybe 0.1 and half moon bay up to quarter but these numbers could change. so today's highs you'll notice they're much cooler for inland communities. only the mid 80s today because of that stronger sea breeze. san francisco 67, oakland 72, san jose 79, and one of the warmest spots is fairfield ater 60s with those showers moving in and the cooler weather. so here's the accuweather seven-day forecast, the cooling continues today and notice really the significant change in the inland areas. the chance of showers tomorrow bringing us much cooler temperatures for tomorrow afternoon highs and then we have sunnier skies, a slight warmup before another system moves to our north bringing us cooler temperatures midweek and we ramp back up again, sunnier and warmer for next weekend once again. get ready. might have to use the umbrellas tomorrow. i want to hold on to summer as

we're going to show you live doppler 7 and the satellite image. changes to the forecast, increased onshore flow and fog has returned and more cloud cover. visibility has been a mile or less in santa rosa. it's down to two miles right now in half moon bay. we have those low clouds filling in. check out this gorgeous live view from our east bay hills camera looking out towards mt. diablo. the low clouds spilled from the coast and this is going to bring us some cooler temperatures for inland communities as well. this afternoon mid 80s for the inland areas and mid 70s around the bay, mid 60s at the coast. cooling continues with even a chance of showers for tomorrow. i'll tell you all about that coming up. liz? >> sounds good. thanks. developing news nearly two dozen people are hurt after a deck collapsed in new jersey. at least three of the injured are children. it happened at a three-story home in the town of wildwood, best known for the jersey shore. reporter george solis has the details. >> reporter: the horror unfolding early saturday evening in wildwood. a deck collapsing at a home in the 200 block of east baker

avenue. a slew of firefighters descending on the scene. firefighters convention coincidentally taking place in town. fragments of the deck covering the front yard. >> i ran and grabbed my phone, called 911 and i could hear the people over there calling for help. >> reporter: june lives across the street. she made the call to 911. >> after they got here, happened to see one of the gentleman like his shoulder, his head and arm sticking out, like face down. >> i'm sure must have been horrific. >> it was scary. i saw them put them on the board and medevac'd him out. >> reporter: like others here couldn't believe what they were seeing. >> i looked and i saw people screaming and everything. it was horrible. >> reporter: there are 22 injured being treated at nearby hospitals. fire officials so far remaining silent many hoping the injuries aren't serious. >> we wanted to come down and check it out and say a >> that was george solis reporting.

it's here, parked, must be delivering mail. this is amazing. >> reporter: amazing because otilia said she and her neighbors have suffered from spotty mail service for years and in recent weeks it reached a fervor pitch. >> we had a crisis recently where my neighborhoods and i didn't receive mail for three weeks. >> reporter: otilia wasn't alone. dozens of her neighborhoods shared the same outrage in fears the postal service was underserving their community. >> i am so down for as protest. this is unacceptable. >> reporter: they banded together. >> countless visits to the post office to the mailbox wondering what's going on. >> reporter: after neighborhoods' requests fell on deaf ears when abc 7 news got involved this is started showing up and the postmaster's response. >> the post master called me yesterday and assured me he would look into it. >> reporter: along with the mail neighborhoods were delivered some transparency. >> the challenge really is because of the high cost of living in that area especially san francisco. >> want to thank you very much for reaching out to us so he could look into it. >> reporter: with many carriers
