i'm donald faison from the new abc series "emergence." and i'm hannah brown, but you may know me as the "beast." rawr! soinof makess beauty and the beast, right? you see what i'm saying? beauty and the beast? see what i'm talking about? no? anyway, um, hannah, how did the "bachelor" thing end for you? 'cause i missed the ending. um, well, it was interesting. okay. i definitely learned a lot about myself and felt so much love and support from bachelor nation, and that's the main reason i ended up so hella strong. and you have some news, right? i do. i am going to be on the new season of "dancing with the stars." [ laughs ] yeah. i'm a little nervous, but i'm gonna crush it. and you can dance, right? oh, i've got some moves. okay. oh, yeah. okay, okay. so, you're on "dancing," i'm on abc's drama "emergence," but the real question is, why are we here today? we're here to tell you about the new fall season on abc. i am so excited. are you excited? so excited. excellent.

this is... both: "abc's fall preview special"! cue the super-cool, fast-paced montage right now. ♪ ♪ this is the moment 10! 10! 10! ♪ this is the moment -ah! -aaah! ♪ we got to shine ♪ nothing to be stopping me, stopping me ♪ -- captions by vitac -- ♪ nothing to be stopping me, stopping me ♪ wells ustha'll seday. we'll meet all the stars of the new abc shows, like me and hannah, and take a look back at some fan favorites that are coming to an end. this year, we'll have to say goodbye to two favorites -- "modern family" and "how to get away with murder." nooooo! ohhhh! too much? yeah. okay. maybe they could do a spin-off, though, like "modern murder" or "how to get away from family." no. or maybe not. alright, we'll talk about that later, but first, let's talk about some of the new folks coming to abc. we all love "black-ish," right?

and i'm a big fan of yara shahidi in "grown-ish." but there's room for one more "ish" in the family. ever wonder how tracee ellis ross' character, rainbow, grew up? it's a classic "ish out of water" story. glad they made you say that and not me. i wish i didn't say it, too, but i did. [ laughs ] i'm just gonna roll with it. here's your first look at "mixed-ish." who is bow johnson? where did this woman come from? man: ready, and action! adult rainbow: in the summer of 1985, i was 12 years old, what's wrong with you guys? i'm a b-boy. and i'm a material girl. the origin came organically out of "black-ish." they constantly are joking that she was a hippie ♪ ...there was a bit of a raid, and perhaps it was not a commune. perhaps it was a cult. [ laughs ] anthony: young bow and her mom and dad and brother and sister have to leave their commune environment, and they move to the suburbs and start a new life. ross: it's the story of coming of age

in a time that is fraught with a lot. what is mixed? we need to know! secrets ruin families! bow's biggest challenge is remaining true to herself. she's taking a big step into this world that sto t withbsy no warnig that being mixed was even a thing. what are you weirdos mixed with? what's mixed? [ laughter ] you don't have to worry what those other kids think. they're idiots. they are idiots. and i want to be one of them. i want to be an idiot so bad! sumpter: the kids are figuring out where they fit in, and this whole family is trying to find their place in the world. you please tell me you didn't send these babies to school lookin' like this. you know this is child abuse? cole: harrison is the grandfather. he's a member of an extremely elite country club. you know that guy. -grandpa! -grandpa! guns? relax, hippie.

he bankrolls their existence, which he's quick to tell them at every turn. -oh! -anybody get my hair wet, and we fightin'. pew, pew, pew, pew! [ all screaming ] these young kids are all so different. santamonica is a firecracker. she's definitely 5 going on 100. whoa. bet you it's a portal to another dimension. well, guess that's settled. never using that thing. i had to tell the writer that 'cause it's so me. it's so me. relax, santi. it's safe. then you use it. i'm going back to diapers. fine. but if you go back to diapers, you're wiping your own butt. [ sighs ] sumpter: what's fun about this is you get to see how bow became her. there's nothing like comedy to open hearts and open minds. [ laughter ] it softens the edges, open the hearts, and makes you see the world in a truer way. ♪

that show looks so sweet. it does. "mixed-ish" will be airing in the tuesday night comedy lineup that includes "the conners," "bless this mess," and, of course, "black-ish." and to top off tuesday night, there's this really great new show called "emergence." you know what? i don't want to do anything to affect the voting, so i think maybe you should do this one. you do a good job. go ahead. alright. uh, but there's no voting. sure. if that's what they told you. anyway. things are about to get a little mysterious with the new show "emergence." allison tolman --- tolman's on the show "fargo." [ laughing ] oh, my goodness gracious. she was so good on that -- i'm sorry. go ahead. allison tolman headlines a great cast in a show that's bound to become everyone's latest addiction. how was that? it wasn't bad. wasn't great. you know what i'm saying? so maybe we should do it again. how 'bout we do it again? just one more time. no. here it is, y'all -- "emergence." -we are rolling! -take 3, off the mark. ♪

my character, jo, is the sheriff in this town. an ordinary little town that experiences a very strange and extraordinary circumstance. tolman: one night, there is a plane crash. when she goes out to go sort of inspect the area, but they find a child. i can help you. the only problem is that she doesn't remember anything about where she comes from. she doesn't have a scratch on her. child: mom? she is, by all accounts, a really ordinary kid, except strange things happen when she's around. [ static crackles ] there's all sorts of people that are after her. we're trying to figure out who they are. there's a man and a woman in here, and they say they're the girl's parents. is olivia all right? can i see your pictures of olivia? we've answered your questions. i'd like to see my daughter. they are not who they say they are. [ electricity crackling ] ♪ as this mystery sort of grows and it becomes clear that she's not safe, jo takes her out of the system and takes her into her family. why do they want to take me? i bet the answer is in here somewhere.

faison: i don't want to give it away, but it's not what you think it is. it's got everything. it's got action, it's got adventure, and it's got heart. she's gone! yeoman: we have got a whole universe of themes that we're about to open up that make this show unmissable television. we're gonna show you some incredible things. -get her! -piper! [ cheers and applause ] ♪ tiffany and the kids will be on sunday nights, sandwiched between "america's funniest videos" and "shark tank." next up, a new series with a badass woman that stars marvel's very own cobie smulders. a series with a badass woman? i'm-a take this one. do it. cobie smulders returns to network tv in a funny, action-packed series that's set in portland, oregon. it's called "stumptown." portland got the nickname "stumptown" way back in the 1800s, when the city was growing so fast, they would chop down trees for buildings, but they didn't have time to remove the stumps. i'm like an encyclopedia of facts, hannah. i guess you are. no, it says it in the teleprompter. we're just gonna go with that. okay. let's just say that cobie is not your typical p.i. she is truly hella strong. okay. see that? no, i do see that. i got guns, son. i can see that. ohhhh. girl, you better stop! let's frickin' do this.

[ lahs ] rom around here? but sorn and raised. you?d. -oh, afghanistan. -bull. hmm? your dog tags don't match the name on your credit card. until you get your lies straight, i'm pretty sure only one of us is getting lucky tonight. ♪ this is goodbye cheers. yeah. smulders: the show is based off of a graphic novel. it's gritty, it's dark, but it's also really funny. i'm gonna have to check for a wire. okay. well, it's a good thing i wore my second-best bra. dex is ex-military. she is a gambler. she's also very caring and very loyal. she has a brother that she has to take care of. are we gonna be okay? yeah. but she can barely take care of herself. you? a p.i.? you can't find your keys half the time. keep me out of trouble. you think it's gonna keep you out of trouble? it might just do the trick.

♪ everything goes here she's so tangible and so real. we can all relate to, if not all of her characteristics, most of them. i need to arrest you. [ scoffs ] for what? for getting beat up? for 14 unpaid parking tickets. ugh. another one. [ siren wails ] dex has this car. and it has a mixtape -- yes, a mixtape -- [ click ] ♪ [ groans ] [ tires screech ] you okay? yeah. [ muffled screaming ] there's two more in the trunk. ♪ i would expect to see a lot of fun action... a world that seems interesting. it's exciting as a woman to be playing a character that hasn't really been seen before. ♪ yeah ♪ coming up, the cast of "a million little things" has some secrets to share. and let's start getting ready for the final season of "modern family." gonna miss that show. i grew up with it. no, i didn't. i did. you did?

as we all know, "a million little things" was one of the biggest new hits of last season. it's one of those shows that you really have no idea what's coming next. so, what do you think's coming next? i don't know, but i can't wait to find out. and action. eddie: i want to come home, but i promised you no more lies. we finished season 1 with eddie clearly about to drop

some nuggets of info on katherine. so, there's something i need to tell you. you see the crumbling of everything that she's really worked for. we come back in finishing the sentence, and i know... [ exhales sharply ] ...it is riveting. -yes! -whoo! whoo! roday: we met gary as a bona fide, card-carrying cynic. he contracted a rare form of cancer that men seldom get, and he covered a lot of that pain with snarky humor. doc, the suspense is killing me. is there anything else killing me? and then he met a woman who gave him a reason to fight. you're in. i'm in. and now that maggie is in remission, these two are gonna have to figure out who they are as a couple. now they're going to be experiencing what life is like with normal lives. i'm so dirty, maggie! no. but, of course, it won't be normal, because it's "a million little things." ♪ when we met rome, rome was at a breaking point. if you hadn't called to tell me about jon, i would be dead right now. his friends make up his family.

we got you, man. moving into season 2, rome wants a child badly. this could be us. but i don't want this. unfortunately, the agreement that he had made with his wife is that they would never have kids. congratulations. and rome is headed for a serious roller coaster ride. ♪ it's a rare thing to put together a group of human beings who know how to treat each other, know how to treat a crew. audiences can feel that love within this cast. it makes all the difference in the world. romany malco knows every person on earth. [ laughs ] he's always the one, like, doing selfies of us all the time. [ laughs ] grace park is probably one of my favorite people i've met in a while. james roday is the funniest man i have ever met. david giuntoli -- it's a deadlock tie between his eyes and his buns.
