yeah, the tensions in the gulf are still extremely high. iranian officials saying they were prepared for full-fledged war but the u.s. reaction does seem to be settling at least a little bit. president trump is saying he doesn't want war and there's no rush to respond. after president trump responded the u.s. was locked and loaded following the attack that crippled this massive saudi oil facility, the president now choosing more cautious wording when asked about his message for iran. >> i think i'll have a stronger message or maybe no message at all when we get the final results of what we're looking at right now it's too soon to say. >> the president says it looks like iran was responsible for the attack. a senior u.s. official tells abc news both a drone and cruise missile used in the strike have been found mostly intact which could provide stronger confirmation of who was

responsible. saudi officials also say the investigation is still ongoing but the initial information shows thesidentrp .s. isready a arabia but they'd have to pay. >> but we would certainly help them. they've been a great ally. i don't want war with anybody. i'm somebody that would like not to have war. >> reporter: the big impact at home, gas prices. analysts are predicting a jump of as much as 25 cents a gallon in the coming weeks particularly in california which relies more heavily on imports from saudi arabia. but president trump downplaying the issue monday night at his rally in new mexico. >> a few years ago they would have been in a panic. today we got a lot of oil. we got a lot of gas. >> reporter: well, president trump and multiple officials had previously said he would meet with iran with no preconditions but the president now says that's not true. iran continues to deny any involvement in this attack and, kenneth, you mentioned comments from the ayatollah now saying there will be no talks with the u.s. at any level. kenneth, mona.

>> all right, trevor ault in washington. thank you. staying in d.c. the president made a surprising claim monday while discussing how prepared the u.s. military is to take on iran or any other country. he says shortly after taking office, then defense secretary jim mattis told him the u.s. is very low on ammunition and asked him to hold off on a potential military strike. it's not clear what the president was referring to, but there were reports last year that the u.s. was running out of bombs. mattis has declined to comment. breaking overnight, a police officer in tuscaloosa, alabama, has been fatally shot. it happened as he was trying to track down a suspect wanted for robbery and assault. investigators say the officer followed the suspect into a house where they exchanged gunfire. the suspect is now in custody. the 40-year-old officer leaves behind two daughters and a fiancee. we turn now to a neighborhood in maine being compared to a war zone after a massive explosion killed a firefighter. investigators will be back on the scene in farmington today as we learn about recent

construction at that building. overnight a community coming together in maine. ♪ remembering a fire captain killed in this massive building explosion. >> we decided to come today because we feel it's important even though we didn't know the firefighter personally to support the town and show that we care for our first responders. >> reporter: new drone video this morning shows the debris littering the ground after the blast leveled the building. >> it was just total devastation. i've been in law enforcement 35 years. i've never seen anything like this before in my life except overseas. it was horrible. >> reporter: the fire department responded to reports of a gas smell at the office building which was newly renovated and opened only for two weeks. while they were investigating the gas smell, the building exploded. >> it just looked like a snowstorm. all this insulation coming up and coming in the air. >> i heard like a bang and my windows in the back were shaking. >> reporter: the blast killed 68-year-old fire captain michael bell, a 30-year veteran of the

department. his colleagues paused to pay respects as his body was removed from the scene and later they lined up outside the medical examiner's office for a procession to the funeral home. >> we all know the fireman that was killed today, and it affects us tremendously. >> and seven other people were injured including four firefighters sent to intensive care unit and a maintenance worker who is being praised for reporting the gas odor early enough to evacuate everyone. officials say the union strike at general motors shows no sign of ending any time soon. more than 50,000 workers have hit the picket lines. one sticking point in the contract talks is the union's demand that gm bring some jobs back from mexico which the company has refused. gm reportedly made $8 billion in profit last year. workers who made concessions during the company's bailout in 2009 want a bigger share of those profits. >> there were times

we're back with a new record for an american swimmer. sarah thomas has just finished her swim across the english channel. she's the first person, man or woman, to make that swim four times nonstop. she finished her treatment for breast cancer one year ago and dedicated the swim to all the breast cancer survivors out there. and breaking overnight another death is being blamed on e-cigarettes and vaping. this time in central california. it's the seventh death nationwide. the news came just hours after the state of california announced it will crack down on counterfeit vaping supplies and devices. meanwhile at the federal level the cdc has now activated its emergency opcoor itsnse a new york city mother is speaking out after a frightening scene involving one of her kids. the 3-year-old boy managed to

crawl out of their 13th floor window in the bronx. he was hanging on to an air conditioner until his 14-year-old sister pulled him inside. his mother says neighbors have been verbally abusing her since the scare. >> they were calling me names. you stupid dumb african lady. you don't know nothing. you think this is africa. this is not africa. this is america. you will go to jail. >> the boy who has autism and vision problems is okay. his mother says he was able to sneak away while she was cooking and an investigation is under way. meanwhile, metal guards have now been placed on the window. music publishers have amplified their lawsuit against exercise equipment company peloton. more than 1300 additional songs have been added to a $150 million copyright lawsuit. the national music publisher association claims peloton used the songs for workouts without the proper licensing. mus inclu beatles.

we turn now to "saturday night live" firing a new cast member before he even made his debut on the show. >> shane gillis has been fired after video surfaced of him making racist jokes. he's reigniting the debate over what's comedy and what's offensive. this morning "snl's" new cast member has been fired before the new season even starts. >> live from new york it's saturday night. >> reporter: the show is dropping shane gillis after a controversial video of the stand-up comic surfaced days after he was hired. >> took skoal out of my mouth to come up here and i didn't vote for donald trump. makes me like the nelson mandela of central pennsylvania. >> a 2018 episode of "matt and shane's secret podcast" shows gillis mimicking a chinese accent and using a racist slur to refer to asian people including a joke about andrew yang. he's also under fire for homophobic slurs on his podcast. gillis issued a statement saying, quote, i'm a comedian who pushes boundaries.

westbound 580 tracy to dublin. it's green antioch to concord. 13 minutes. southbound 101 in the north bay looking great. san rafael to san francisco also just changed, still green at 18 minutes. frances, thank you. new this morning, chp is trying to determine why a man was walking on highway 92 in hayward when he was hit and killed by a pickup truck just before midnight. the man was pronounced dead at the scene. the chp says the truck's driver remained there. the crash tied up traffic for a while, but that road is reopened this morning. an adult from the central valley is the seventh vaping related death in the u.s. >> the person died on saturday. officials have not released the person's name or how old they are. health officials say there have been three reports of similar illnesses in tulare county and 53 cases nationwide.

the dangers of e-cigarettes has prompted governor newsom to issue an executive order to crack down. a $20 million public awareness campaign on the dangers of vaping and removing products. the governor says he's looking at raising the tax on e-cigarettes. >> the cdc is activating its emergency operation center in response. it will work around the clock collecting data and helping local officials. the emergency operation center has dealt with more than 60 public health threats since 2001. it is now 4:30 f. you're just waking up, good morning. >> good morning, everyone. you're never more than seven minutes away from traffic and weather. and here's mike. thank you, kumasi, reggie. hi, everybody. notice the winds are much calmer than this time yesterday, less than 10 miles per hour. they will pick up as we head into the afternoon hours. that will keep us below average. my accuweather
