silicon vaey is grn. millions up for grabs for both sides. when looking at itemized donations of $200 or more through june of this year the third highest fund-raiser in california. silicon valley lunch expected to raise several million more. >> go to hear the people, whatever their perspective so they're informed. >> reporter: brandon lang just graduated from uc santa cruz. he says the strong economy is proof of trump's leadership. he believes bay area republicans have been silenced. he hopes the president's visit gives them a voice. >> there's culture shame in the area. him coming here to show support for sus is something they can

turn around. >> reporter: president trump took off from moffett field a few hours ago on his way to his next location. there were no protests here. reporting live, anser hassan, abc 7 news. >> anser, thanks very much. that was a rather brief visit for the president. he arrived in the bay area just after 11:00 a.m. he departed about 45 minutes later than planned taking off from moffett field at about 3:15. a little less than a couple hours ago. chris nguyen tracked down some of those who attended today's event and is live in palo alto. chris? >> reporter: the location was kept secret from those attending. they had to park here at the parking lot behind me. they were then shuttled by bus to where the event was held for a big event that certainly raised a lot of money for the president's re-election campaign.

protesters came out to give president trump their version of a bay area welcome. the president in town for a fund-raiser. >> this is going to be a very expensive presidential campaign. >> reporter: a strategist is a veteran of several high-profile political campaigns says the president has a number of wealthy supporters here in silicon valley. >> having the resources to be able to run television advertisements, get folks hired in the field to mobilize voters all critically important. cannot do it without money. these fund-raisers will be significant for the president. >> reporter: tickets ranged between $1,000 and $100,000 apiece. trump supporter kennedy camacho didn't spend the money but came to be a part of the excitement. >> i just wanted to see what the motorcade was like in real life. i've always dreamt of it. glad that day finally came. >> reporter: across from the entrance silicon valley artist

much more. and during his visit president trump took another shot at california over its homeless crisis saying this. quote, in many cases they came from other countries and moved to los angeles to san francisco, because of the prestige of the city. all of a sudden they have tents. hundreds and hundreds of tents and people living at the entrance to their office building, and they want to leave. end quote. while president trump was in the palo alto area, another member was in the bay area. we're talking about housing and urban development secretary ben carson visited san francisco today. he was faced with more critics than supporters outside a housing complex in potrero hill. the venue on connecticut avenue is a model project that opened as a joint endeavor between mayor london breed's office and a master developer. carson entered through a garage instead of the front door to bypass protesters drawing more criticism. he said it was important to focus on the issue at hand.

>> what we need to do is focus our attention on how are we going to actually solve this problem and not making it into political football. >> we will shout. we will fight. >> so mayor london breed said she asked for a meeting and then declined to join carson. she released a statement saying that taking away services was not going to help solve the affordable housing crisis. abc 7 reached out to the department of housing. they said they were not part of the event. also in san francisco there was a protest against today's visit. this one clearly aimed at president trump. the trump chicken popped up near the ferry building along the embarcadero. we've seen the chicken at protests in the past. democratic presidential candidate beto o'rourke was also in los angeles today where he criticized the trump administration's new report on homelessness. o'rourke spent the day on skid row touring a women's shelter blasting a report released from

the white house yesterday that blamed building codes of people sleeping on the street and street activities. what he says is one of those paths cannot be used for police to sweep people off the street to warehouse people out of sight and out of mind. that's a quote from beto o'rourke. he wants to invest $400 billion in federal money to housing and policies that would encourage the rich to live next to the poor. o'rourke will be in the bay area wednesday where he will tour san quentin and record podcasts produced by inmates. now a quick look at the democratic presidential field, those who haven't grade out are no longer seeking the party's nomination and dropped out of the race. if they've been grayed out they're not part of this anymore. still a large field and the next debate is set for october in ohio. former president barack obama will be visiting san francisco tomorrow. sf gates reports the

ex-president will be speaking at a small event hosted by the test company splunk. it will focus on how big tech companies can responsibly collect and manage data across the internet. governor newsom is blasting president trump over what newsom calls a political vendetta. several newspapers including "the new york times" and "washington post" report that tomorrow the epa will revoke aspects of a clean air act waiver that california has used for years to set its own emissions standards. newsom is taking aim at the president ahead of that announcement. he issued a statement reading, quote, we will fight this latest attempt and defend our clean car standards. california, global markets, and mother nature will prevail. two bay area counties declared climate emergencies. saneo and sonoma addressed climate change. pointed out in its declaration rising sea levels could rise by six feet or more and causets nee

is to consider what possible actions to take. that is supposed to happen in the beginning of next year. a woman attacked as she tried to get into her apartment building near the embarcadero, a video captures the entire thing. the suspect a homeless man, it's a case that has ignited a heated debate over how to deal with san francisco's homeless. today that woman was in court to testify against her alleged attacker and emotions ran very high. >> vic lee joins us live from the hall of justice with what happened in the courtroom. vic? >> reporter: well, kristen, the preliminary hearing today took all morning and some of the afternoon. the prosecution called only two witnesses. the front desk receptionist at the apartment building and its main witness. the prosecutor played the security camera video showing the woman at the front entrance of her apartment building august

11th as she tries toen, she's attacked allegedly by austin vincent. this mug shot of vincent was taken after he was arrested later that night. she was the first prosecution witness today. she testified that vincent was standing outside the entrance doors appearing upset and yelling at the front desk receptionist. she said she spoke with him for about six minutes trying to understand what he was saying. he says he told her not to enter. everybody is a robot, she said, but not me. i'll save your life. i want to kill the lady inside because she's a robot. kosarian testified when she tried to get inside the building he became aggressive and physical. i was fighting for my life, crawling into the apartment. he was hurting me, grabbing my arm and pulling my leg. kosarian says she had bruises on her legs, hands, and left side of her body. she finally got into the building with the help of the receptionist who came to her aid. when she was asked how did you

feel afterwards? kosarian broke down and cried on the stand. d.a. spokesman alex bastian. >> whenever victims come forward and testify in cord we recognize how courageous that is. >> reporter: public defender says it's clear his client was having mental health issues at the time. >> the bottom line is austin was in treatment prior to being taken into custody and was doing well in treatment. >> reporter: the prosecution filed a new charge late this afternoon here at the hall of justice, and that is making criminal threats so that attempted residential burglary, battery, false imprisonment and a new charge. he will be arraigned again late in october because of this new charge. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> vic, thanks very much. in the north bay a santa rosa man suspected of killing his 13-month-old son has died. a family member found 29-year-old patrick o'neill and

his son liam inside a home on darek drive saturday. efforts to revive the child failed. o'neill was found unconscious and taken to the hospital where he died last night. investigators will conduct a toxicology test to determine the cause of death. police say drugs were found next to o'neill and the child. authorities planned to arrest o'neill on murder charges if he survived. millbrae residents should be on the lookout for a mountain lion spotted last night. the cat was seen in the area of hacienda way around 8:00. police say the lion ran into a wooded hillside after being spotted west of the intersection. no other sightings were reported. officials say if you do come across a mountain lion, stay calm, hold your ground and back away slowly. a british columbia woman is the latest person arrested in the college admissions bribery scheme. authorities say she paid $400,000 to get her son into ucla as a fake soccer recruit

>> the plant would be located on clark avenue in pittsburg and will process medical and nonmedical and will distribute to dispensaries creating jobs and generating tax revenue for the city. >> reporter leslie brinkley has more on the plan. >> reporter: this industrial warehouse on clark avenue will soon house a cannabis manufacturing plant. >> we have gone through a year long process which was approved by the city council last night. >> reporter: there are only four distributors licensed in all of contra costa county. 113 in just the city of oakland. this is new territory for generating tax revenue. the land was once part the camp stoneman. employed. >> to licensed dispensaries or

the potential presence of e. coli discovered during sampling. they have not received any reports of a confirmed illness. a group of investors have sued at&t. they allege senior management pressured their employees into creating fake accounts for their directv now service and they did it between 2016 and 2018. the suit claims it was an attempt to artificially inflate subscriber numbers and that would mislead investors. an at&t spokesperson says the company plans to fight these claims in court. a new study suggests consumers are not quite ready for a ride share company that uses driverless cars. researchers at the university of washington surveyed consumers on their attitudes about autonomous vehicles. the average person i t
