west. do you think visiting with secretary carson would have made any difference? >> i hope so, but i doubt it. >> reporter: beyond mayor breed, we did reach out to others in san francisco city government from shaman walton, a very terse no comment, and from san francisco's department of homelessness and supportive housing, another comment, we're not part of the event. they referred us back to the mayor's office. live on potrero hill. >> the hud secretary's visit comes a day after the release of a white house report on the state of homelessness in america. it finds close to half of the nation's unsheltered homeless live in california. the report states, quote, the first cause we consider is the overregulation of housing markets, which raises homelessness by increasing the price of a home. it goes on to say that deregulation would drop the homeless population in san francisco by 54%. the report was issued by the council of economic advisers, an

agency within the executive office of the president. off camera today, the president francisco are fed up. and the people of los angeles are fed up, and we're looking at it, and we'll be doing something about it. >> from the issue of homelessness to the environment. tomorrow the epa is expected to revoke aspects of a clean air act waiver that california has used for years to set its own emissions standards. california's advanced clean cars rule, requires auto makers to produce cars that emit fewer greenhouse gases through 2025. gavin newsom issued a statement, we will fight this latest attempt and defend our clean air standards. california, global markets and mother nature will prevail. the president waved and gave a fist bump to several supporters who met him at the airfield. >> i think we needed to protect our borders, all of the things he stands for. i believe in.

deadly boat crash off the tip of tiburon. no charges are expected against a father accused of running his 11-year-old son over in the water. xavier bario was released on ell pail aft bail after being arrested for dui. he is believed to have accidently run over his sons and hit them with the boat propeller. a woman who was attacked at the doorway of her building in the embarcadero testified against her alleged assailant. the incident was recorded by the building's security cameras, showing the intense struggle that went on for minutes. the suspect is believed to be homeless and mentally ill. vic lee is live at the hall of justice with the latest on this case that has sparked so mu interest and attention. >> reporter: it has. she testified all morning long

new at 6:00, santa clara could strip the 49ers' ability to execute contracts for all non-nfl events at a meeting tonight. that includes for groups like the rolling stones. the city says the 49ers have violated state laws and have refused to produce contracts and documents to assess the extent of the violations. the 49ers' management team says it is retaliatory and will result in increased cost and lost events. a new cannabis manufacturing plant could soon be opening up in an east bay suburb. it will process medical and non-medical cannabis products, creating jobs and tax revenue for the city of pittsburg. leslie brinkley has more on the plan. >> reporter: this industrial warehouse on clark avenue in pittsburg will soon house a cannabis manufacturing plant. to put it in perspective, there

are only four cannabis distributors licensed in all of contra costa county. there are 113 in just the city of oakland. this is new territory for tinggeneraax revenue. the city projects 500,000 a year. the land was once part of the camp stoneman. this new facility operated by stoneman laboratories will immediately create 20 job, perhaps eventually employing 100. >> there'll only be distributing their manufactured products to licensed dispensaries or retail sellers. >> reporter: so no store front here. >> no store front here. >> reporter: those opposed refused to go on camera, concerned with homeless who camp out regularly here at night. but but they held out hope that the plant may bring added layers of security. the city reduced its buffer zone

tv host and entrepreneur ayesha curry is one of the most inbl influential people out there today. >> yeah, she is. and she has eat, learn, play using a new marketing tool. >> we sat down with ayesha to talk business and the art of giving. >> reporter: over the summer, steph and ayesha curry announced they were starting a new foundation called eat, learn, play, to help kids in underserved communities, primarily in oakland. >> there's this huge void, and they don't have access to these simple things in light, right? nutritious foods, education and a safe place to play. we need to change that. >> reporter: money is being raised to adequately feed kids. playgrounds are being built and college scholarships awarded among other things. >> i think we're working hard to positively impact as many childre as we can. but obviously, to do that, we need donations. because we are a charity.

president trump's visit to the bay area today highlights just how important the bay area is for political candidates hoping to raise big money. >> which well-known tech executives have donated in 2020? our reporter breaks down the numbers. >> okay, we all know presidential candidates love the bay area, and no, it's not because of our great food, beautiful views and wineries, although those are all good, too. it's all balecause of money. several presidential hopefuls have come to the bay area for fundraisers to get in on the tech cash. which big names in silicon valley are donating to the top 2020 candidates and to whom? we dug through the fec reports. kamala harris has support from four big tech companies.

president trump, don't forget that his visit to the bay area today was a fund raiser and is estimated to have netted more than $2 million for his campaign. so it was a lucrative business. new at 6:00, contra costa county is the latest to place a moratorium on justice fees. the moratorium stops collections of past-due court-ordered fees as well as assignments of new fees. criminal justice fees have long been criticized for burdening poor people and minorities, putting them in an unbreakable cycle of poverty. a young company is ramping up its recruitment program with an offer that is sparking a lot of interest. >> michael finney looked into what all the buzz is about. >> you guys know any engineers? you're going to be calling them tonight. a ceo has taken to twitter to dangle a free tesla to anyone who refers five successful

all right, jeopardy host alex trebek has suffered a set back as he undergoes treatment for pancreatic cancer. >> we sat down with trebek to get the latest first hand. >> one of the things i have learned in the past six months is that the course of pancreatic cancer treatment is not a straightforward affair. >> reporter: and with that, alex trebek reveals that he is straightforward when it comes to the reality of what he is dealing with. he will not hide the news, good or bad, about his cancer treatment. >> this past summer, because i was making such good progress, we thought i was finished with chemo. that was a bit premature.

but dad had some other ideas. >> i was 6, probably, huh? 6? you know, not very big. small kid. and yeah, wanted to be goalie, because it was cool to have all the equipment and, you know, the mask and you saw all the guys, you know, all the guys, it was just cool being a goalie, you know? it's not very smart to be a goalie, but it's cool. and at 6 years old you don't know that, right? he was coaching and decided i was not goal go tgo tgo goalie. he shot the puck as hard as he could and it hit me in the chest. in 1996, goalie equipment for, you know, a village of a thousand people, you know, 15 play hockey, it's not the best. it was probably hay in there at the time. >> oh, no. >> so it stung, and it stung a bit and ever since then, i never wanted to be a goalie again. and, you know, that's pretty much it.
