saz driving to work 8:00 wednesday morning, her dash cam captured the moment this suv hit the center divider, flew across the northbound lanes, spinning out another car before careening off the side of the freeway into a grassy ditch in san rafael. >> if i were half a second earlier when i left the house, it would be me getting hit. >> reporter: after the crash her dash cam shows bus and cars pulling over on the side of the freeway. daniel novack was driving one of those cars. >> i could see down the hill that there was this suv, the front was on fire. another truck pulled up behind me and these two guys got out and the three of us just immediately ran down the hill through the brush, and as we got there, they were getting the kids out of the back seat. eothe and her 6-year-old ni carried the man's

one. live in the newsroom with details. >> he made the remarks as he was leaving california after a two-day visit. >> if you look at san francisco, it's a total disaster what's happening. they're going to ruin these cities. and we're going to get involved very soon on a federal basis if they don't cleanup their act. >> president donald trump said this to reporters wednesday aboard air force one. and we have tremendous things that we don't have to discuss pouring into the ocean. you know there are needles, there are other things. it's a terrible situation that's in los angeles and in san francisco, and we're going to be giving san francisco there in total violation, we're going to be giving them a notice very soon. we spoke to state senator scott wiener about the president's remarks. >> we collect needles on the ground, we have people who their job is to pick them up. and this idea that because, you know, he claims that someone has put a needle into a storm drain

candidate beto o'rourke made an appearance in the bay area today. he went to san quintan prison and said one of the big take-aways for him is we're all capable of change. he talked about changes in california law that have produced changes in the prison population. >> he talked about the fact that some people now have hope and there's a reason for them to enroll in programs and to better themselves because they see a life for themselves on the outside. he says that's completely changed morale not just amongst the prison population but those who serve and oversee the prison population. >> o'rourke says he believes san quintan is providing a model for the state and the rest of the country. >> a man chasing a lyft driver you see him right there firing shots as that driver took off. it happened thursday night. the suspect ordered a lyft and once inside the vehicle he held the driver at gunpoint and told him to drive. the lyft driver was able to get away when the suspect asked him

to stop at a gas station to get snacks. the driver got away safely but some of the gunfire hit his vehicle. later that night police arrested marcus dean. a gas leak forced the evehicluation of 16 homes has been capped. this leak happened on zachary lane. the san jose fire department pg&e isolated and capped the leaking gas line just before 8:15 tonight and nobody was hurt. and prime minister justin trudeau is apologizing after a photo of him in brown face back in 2001 was published :01 was pn time magazine. >> now i recognize it was something racist to do. >> the photo came from the yearbook of a private school where trudeau worked as a teacher. he was wearing a robe and turbine with dark make-up on his face, neck and hands. treaudo claims he was dressed up

a red wood city police officer hit a bystander on a way to a home invasion call this morning. police say that call of a home invasion came in around 9:45 a.m. the police officer lost control of the car on wet roads and hit a man standing on a center median waiting to cross. the man is in the hospital with serious injuries. the ofrts is expected to be okay, so is the police dog that was in the car. building a better bay area

concerned that seepieniors in h community are being left behind. santa clara leaders explored what's needed to improve the welfare of older >> reporter: reaction surrounding the south bay senior, a special meeting wednesday night looked at the welfare of santa clara's older residents. a long time resident says this conversation with county leaders is a crucial step toward building a better bay area. >> there are a multitude of issues facing seniors, and i found as a retired executive in volunteer in the area that do wrk with seniors that there's really not a central voice for their concerns. >> reporter: concerns like elder abuse, mobility, transportation, support services, housing and a new challenge, seniors in pg&e'. >> really mine we do a good job of helping people understand what happens when those outages happen, what are

industries lobbied intensely against this bill, ab5. uber and door dash announced they'll be putting $90 million towards a ballot nagsative that would exempt them from the law. the monthly gas and electric bill for the average customer will increase about $4.80 beginning october 1st. the money will fund opgrades and safety measures. pg&e's rate increase does not include any cost from the 2017 or 2018 fires that prauchted its bankruptcy filing. new developments tonight distribution of the popular heartburn drug zantac has been halted over a possible carcinogen. this comes after the fda learned of small amounts of a carcinogen in some branded and generic products. authorities say you should check with your doctor. tomorrow right here on abc 7 is a special edition of midday

let's just talk about the weather instead of rapping about it. from our sap jose camera this was earlier today. we had the clouds, a few showers as you'll notice. yes, this morning those showers turned to some lingering sprinkles and we ended up with a muggy feel, if you will. how much rain did we get? try 0.02, about a san jose a trace amount in antioch they reported nothing. let's take a look at the temperature trend. but right now let me show you those temperatures, 50s, 60s. and san jose's average temperature is 82 degrees. tomorrow it's going to be a little bit lower than average at 78 degrees, but those numbers are going to bounce back and you will notice how warm it's going to get as we head towards the weekend and even next week we're going to be talking about some
