out another car before careening off the side of the freeway into a grassy ditch in san rafael. >> if i were half a second earlier when i left the house, it would be me getting hit. >> reporter: after the crash her dash cam shows bus and cars pulling over on the side of the freeway. daniel novack was driving one of those cars. >> i could see down the hill that there was this suv, the front was on fire. another truck pulled up behind me and these two guys got out and the three of us just immediately ran down the hill through the brush, and as we got there, they were getting the kids out of the back seat. >> reporter: daniel took these photos of the suv on fire and other good samaritans carrying the mother and her 6-year-old daughter up the hill. daniel carried the woman's 3-year-old son to safety. his eyes were open, he wasn't speaking but he was gasping for breath. i told him it's going to be okay. you know, held onto his hand until to paramedic lady showed

two-day visit. >> if you look at san francisco, it's a total disaster what's happening. they're going to ruin these cities. and we're going to get involved very soon on a federal basis if they don't cleanup their act. >> president donald trump said this to reporters wednesday aboard air force one. and we have tremendous things that we don't have to discuss pouring into the ocean. you know there are needles, there are other things. it's a terrible situation that's in los angeles and in san francisco, and we're going to be giving san francisco there in total violation, we're going to be giving them a notice very soon. we spoke to state senator scott wiener about the president's remarks. >> we collect needles on the ground, we have people who their job is to pick them up. and this idea that because, you know, he claims that someone has put a needle into a storm drain that san francisco is going to be cited for that is ridiculous. >> reporter: for those who live in san francisco, the president's remarks are not a surprise. >> i mean i think it's just an easy target for people to say

that about san francisco. but those problems are in every major city. >> i think if anything san francisco does a phenomenal job handling needles and other dangerous bio hazards. i don't know how the president could possibly see needles going into the -- it's the kind of inflammatory comment he's well-known for. >> reporter: and just an hour ago mayor london breed tweeted if the president wants to talk about homelessness we are committed to working on solutions like adding 1,000 new beds next year and working on a housing bond to create more badly needed housing. of course the president was in silicon valley yesterday attending a fund-raiser, his first visit to the bay area since he was elected. democratic presidential candidate beto o'rourke made an appearance in the bay area today. he went to san quintan prison and said one of the big take-aways for him is we're all capable of change.

he talked about changes in california law that have produced changes in the prison population. >> he talked about the fact that some people now have hope and there's a reason for them to enroll in programs and to better themselves becausehey see a life for themselves on the outside. he says that's completely changed morale not just amongst the prison population but those who serve and oversee the prison population. >> o'rourke says he believes san quintan is providing a model for the state and the rest of the country. >> a man chasing a lyft driver you see him right there firing shots as that driver took off. it happened thursday night. the suspect ordered a lyft and once inside the vehicle he held the driver at gunpoint and told him to drive. the lyft driver was able to get away when the suspect asked him to stop at a gas station to get snacks. the driver got away safely but some of the gunfire hit his vehicle. later that night police arrested

their concerns. >> reporter: concerns like elder abuse, mobility, transportation, support services, housing and a new challenge, seniors in pg&e's public power safety shutoffs. >> really making sure we do a good job of helping people understand what happens when those outages happen, what are the resources available to them, and how do make sure a they have the support and that they're safe during that time. >> reporter: but some seniors remain critical of the county's timing saying for some residents time is of the essence. but as the supervisor contends there is no room for error. >> the bigger the issue is becoming there's real pain involved. there's no margin of error. there's no net underneath the high wire here. so we have to get it right. >> reporter: everheart remains eager. >> i am a senior and i know i'm not going to live forever. >> reporter: the conversation continues and next week the county will address partial tax
