schoolkids outside atlanta. a man jumped on their bus and tried to drive off. video shows him walking toward the bus earlier this month as the driver screamed at him to get away. terrified students ran to the back of the bus for their safety. police say a parent convinced the man to leave. he faces criminal trespass and other charges. a chick-fil-a staffer in southern california is being celebrated for his life-saving skills. >> the drive-thru worker rushed to the aid of a man who went into cardiac arrest outside a restaurant in chula vista last week. the staffer, who wants to go to nursing school, performed cpr. the victim survived. the worker said he was ithe right place at the right time. chick-fil-a is known for customer service. >> yes, they are. add that to the list. a 5-year-old child from southern new jersey has been missing since monday afternoon. police say dolce maria olivez was lured away from a playground into a van. there are reports she was taken

by a man. it's unknown if the suspect knew the girl or her family. school districts are taking precautions during an outbreak of that dangerous mosquito-borne illness known as eee. >> it has killed five people so far from michigan to massachusetts. in michigan schools are keeping athletes away from the woods and parents can allow school-administered bug spray treatments. >> it comes as parents in some communities are being told to keep kids inside at dusk until the first frost. >> reporter: a rare but dangerous mosquito-borne illness claiming two more lives in michigan. the worst outbreak of eastern equine encephalitis in a decade. 18 cases across five states killing at least five. including 64-year-old greg mcchesney. his family says he went from healthy to brain dead in nine days. >> if somebody is over 50 years of age, under 15 years of age, they're not only more susceptible to it but also more susceptible to getting serious infection. >> reporter: some communities are stepping up air and ground spraying and urging affected

abc's pierre thomas has more. >> reporter: that american airlines mechanic accused of sabotaging a passenger jet held without bond after the judge told him, you may be sympathetic to terrorists. 60-year-old abdul majeed alani, a long-time employee, arrested at miami international airport two weeks ago accused of disabling a critical part of the navigation system of a 737 jet carrying 150 people. his alleged sabotage caught just in time and the plane never took off. authorities say alani quickly confessed but insisted he wasn't trying to hurt anyone. he claimed he was just trying to get overtime pay by creating a maintenance problem. but the fbi clearly did not buy it. they searched his phone and say they discovered isis videos depicting graphic murders and they say an american airlines employee told them alani's brother was in isis and the mechanic had visited him in iraq. >> even the accusation that somebody that the flying public trusts, they put their family on airplanes, the accusation that he may have done something to put the airplane in jeopardy breaks that bond of trust with the flying public. >> reporter: authorities say alani had also received an

article about airplane crashes involving the very sensor he had sought to disable, and he allegedly shared a message asking allah to take action against the kafirs, or nonbelievers. his attorneys emphasize alani had no intention of bringing down that plane. regardless he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of tampering with that plane. pierre thomas, abc news, washington. >> pierre, thank you for that report. now to the weather. there are multiple storms on the radar. >> there are three named storms of concern. imelda, humberto, and jerry. >> right now humberto is impacting bermuda. >> in texas, imelda is drenching areas near the gulf. a tornado was spotted in bay town just outside houston. >> a little further south in

galveston, a man waded through floodwaters to rescue his girlfriend after her car shut down. down the gulf coast in freeport, texas, more heavy rain had the streets resembling rivers. accuweather's adam del rosso has the complete forecast. >> imelda still causing problems across east texas into louisiana not only with some tornadic storms but also flooding rainfall. by the time all is said and done, 2 feet of rain is possible in spots through today. areas where we've already been dealing with flooding. hurricane humberto lifting northward away from bermuda. we'll have improving conditions there. however, along the east coast of the u.s. we're still talking some rip current issues through the day tomorrow. and then we've got tropical storm jerry strengthening into a hurricane by the time we head into friday. into the weekend as it passes north of puerto rico, we'll be

talking about some rain and wind on the island. kenneth, mona? >> adam, thank you. turning to the growing fallout from the massive attack on the saudi oil industry, president trump is now threatening to hit iran with a new round of economic sanctis. >> secretary of state mike pompeo is speaking in much harsher terms after arriving in saudi arabia, calling the attack a quote act of war even as iran threatens to retaliate if targeted, the president is leaving his options open. >> there are many options. and there's the ultimate option, and there are options a lot less than that. and we'll see. we're in a very powerful position. >> when you say the ultimate option -- >> i'm saying the ultimate option meaning go in, war. >> the saudis have released new evidence saying it shows the strike was sponsored by iran. iran is just one of the challenges inherited by president trump's fourth national security adviser. the president selected robert o'brien, the state department's chief hostage negotiator, to replace john bolton who was ousted last week. o'brien is an established figure in republican policy circles.

he was most recently dispatched to sweden to monitor the trial of rapper asap rocky. he said it's a privilege to be picked. a whistle-blower's complaint about president trump has reportedly sparked a standoff between congress and the intelligence community. "the washington post" is reporting an intelligence official was so alarmed by a promise the president made to an unidentified foreign leader that the person filed a formal whistle-blower complaint. sources say the director of national intelligence is refusing to turn over the complaint to congress. acting dni joseph mcguire is expected to go before a house panel next week. he'll be asked if the president or attorney general directed him to withhold the complaint. the u.s. military has shelled out at least $184,000 on layovers at president trump's golf resort in scotland since he took office. the pentagon said dozens of its crews have spent the night at the trump turnberry resort as the nearby airport became a

check out this image from the river seine in old paris. paris is testing out these eco-friendly electric hydrofoil water taxis this week. the boats can fit four passengers. if approved they can be ordered via an app like uber. its designers hope to run the so-called sea bubbles commercially in paris and other cities starting next year. here on dry land and on this side of the pond, a new transportation revolution is increasingly scooting across america. >> that's right. but what seemed like an answer to congested streets is now raising some serious questions about safety. to talk further about this we have abc's jordyn phelps who's up here with us today. >> mona, kenneth, so good to be with you. it seems there's no shortage of transportation options these days. you can drive, bike, hail an uber with your phone, and now in a lot of cities there's another option, you can scoot. it's one of the hottest trends in transportation.

from washington, d.c. to santa monica, california, to paris, france. thousands of dockless electric scooters have shown up in more than 100 cities around the world. but with more scooters on the roads and sidewalks there are also more scooter-related injuries and even deaths. in san antonio, this bomb was injured when she was struck by an electric scooter. in dallas, kelly mitchum's first ride landed her in the emergency room. >> i did a block. when i came back around the corner, i was going probably a little fast. i hit where the trolley exchange is. face-first over the scooter. >> reporter: in washington the scooters can be found all over town. wherever the last user left them. all it takes is a dollar to start riding. here we go. enthusiasts say the scooters are a fun and easy way to get around. >> they are fun. they get you from point "a" to point "b" faster than walking. they're also cheaper and more accessible as opposed to walking

more than 20 years after the shocking murder of comic legend phil hartman, his brother-in-law is breaking a decades-long silence. >> he's sharing new insights into the "snl" star's new home life. here's abc's chris connelly with the abc news exclusive. >> reporter: he made millions laugh as president clinton on "saturday night live." >> jem, let me tell you something. there's going to be a whole bunch of things we don't tell mrs. clinton. >> reporter: and as a self-centered radio host on "news radio." >> it's time for -- ♪ the real deal with bill mcneil ♪ >> reporter: phil hartman was at the top of his game, starring on tv and in movies, when in 1998 at the age of 49 he was shot and killed by his wife, brynn hartman who then killed herself. >> after i heard brynn had shot phil and then heard brynn had shot herself, i think everyone was in shock in the family. and cannot imagine why she would do that.

>> reporter: now for the first time in a new abc news special, details of the couple's relationship from greg omdahl, brynn hartman's brother. >> i would say brynn confided in me quite a bit. i know she was upset with phil on one, maybe two occasions where he would be doing a part, "the simpsons" or news radio. he had mentioned to brynn that maybe i can get you a part. and when he'd come home she'd say, well, did y talk to them about getting me a part? and he'd say, oh, i forgot. she'd be upset about that. >> reporter: and an inside look at the hartman family before tragedy struck. in home videos. >> hello. >> by all external appearances they look like a very, very happy couple and family but there are cracks in the armour. >> reporter: the marriage was troubled. the couple fighting over phil's busy work schedule and brynn's

substance abuse issues. early morning hours of may 28th when brynn returned home from a night of drinking and shot her husband. hours later as police arrive on the scene, brynn would take her own life as well. the couple's two young children, 9 and 6 years old at the time, were home at the time of the shootings. >> the children, a 9-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, have been taken into protective custody. >> reporter: they would be raised by brynn's sister after their parents' deaths. now more than 20 yea later greg omdahl says they are thriving. >> birgen's doing great. shs married now and her and her husband have started a business that's doing real well. >> birgie, what do you want to say to yourself 10 years from now? >> she's a beautiful gal and has a handsome husband, and she's living a normal, happy life. sean's doing well. he got a degree in art, and he's pursuing his dream of being an artist and musician.

at this. here's the shocking scene from a high school soccer game in jamaica. several players collapsed after being struck by lightning. the match was stopped immediately as the boys were treated on the field. one player was unresponsive and taken off the field on a stretcher. he was revived and is recovering. another video that's making headlines, surveillance images inside the minneapolis airport showing a pilot whom authorities accuse of being drunk. >> the video purportedly shows that pilot trying to avoid security just moments before he was scheduled to take off. here's abc's david kerley. >> reporter: in video obtained by abc news, we see that pilot's suspicious behavior. gabriel schroeder approaching a random secondary checkpoint stopping suddenly, acting surprised, according to police. when asked to place his bag on a table the delta pilot replies he isn't ready and walks away. suspicious, minneapolis officials ask that he be tracked and with these surveillance cameras he's seen going downstairs and into a men's room for just 30 seconds. police say they found a bottle of vodka in a trash can.
