this is probably the coolest day moving forward. we'll show you the heat coming upnext. >> let's look at the richmond-san rafael bridge. a lot of activities with emergency crews before the toll plaza. they're out of lanes now. you can see those flashing ratings. we had three vehicles pushed out of the left-hand lane. you're backed up on your approach to the richmond-san rafael bridge. towards walnut creek, a lot of brake lights at southbound 680 past north main. no words of stalls or accidents. just a lot of folks out on the road at 6:01. a little extra time from concord towards the 24 interchange on south 680, a 12-minute drive or so. and about an hour getting out of tracy, west on 580 into dublin pleasanton. happening tonight, some great news for people who are going to and from sfo. flight delays and cancellations caused by the runway work are just about over. >> crews have been working

around-the-clock on runway 28 left. everything went faster than they expected. jobina fortson is live with the details. good morning. >> good morning. this time last we're the arrivals and departures boards did not look like this. with all the on-times. we're making progress here. it's still early in the day but for the last 11 days passengers coming in and out of sfo were stressed over the delays and cancellations. we saw those delays as long as three hours. here's some background information on this. the runway 28l was closed for a repainting and repave project and is reopening today. one week ahead of schedule. construction crews worked 24 hours a day to create a new base layer for the runway. the previous layer dates back to the 1960s.

it was showing signs of fatigue cracking. that is a major safety hazard, largely due to the heavy air traffic on this particular runway. we talked to a passenger this morning, he said he pushed up his flight two hours to make sure he got out of here on time. >> i wanted to avoid all those things about moving ahead of time. i had to call in and change my flight. united was kind enough to say you're impacted by the construction, so there won't be a change fee. >> we are not out of the woods just yet. airport officials tell us things will wrap up here by 9:00 p.m. tonight. reporting live from sfo,s jobina fortson, abc 7 news. >> thank you. this is a story you'll see only on abc 7 news. a good samaritan shares a story after rescuing a mom and two kids from a fiery wreck. the crash happened around 8:30 yesterday morning. it was near the st. vincent on-ramp on highway 101.

a driver's dash cam captured the white suv hitting the center divider, it went across the northbound lanes and sent another car into a spin and then careened into a grassy ditch. several people pulled over including daniel nowak to check on the people on the side. >> i could see down the hill that there was this suv, the front was on fire. another truck pulled up behind me and these two guys got out and the three of us just immediately ran down the hill through the brush, and as we got there, they were getting the kids out of the back seat. >> the mother and her 6-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy were inside that suv. right now all three are in critical condition. happening today, mark zuckerberg will meet with lawmakers on capitol hill. this is the first time he's been on capitol hill since testifying about the cambridge analytica scandal last year. a facebook spokesperson says today zuckerberg will discuss ideas for future internet regulation.

this is between paso robles and kettleman city. the bus went 400 to 500 feet down an embankment. seven people were injured. two seriously. the bus was carrying members of josh turner's road crew. turner was not on the bus. he is scheduled major change that affects the types of cars that we drive and the air that we breathe. the epa announced they're stission rules. >> the state is already vowing to fight it. amy hollyfield is live at the bay bridge toll plaza. >> but news this morning with the epa telling california it can no longer set its own car emission standards like it has been able do for years. the president tweeted that this was coming. california has a waiver from the federal government that allows the state to set its own higher car emission standards. that waiver is now being revoked and the epa says loosening the

through a home in san francisco. fire broke out inside a home on-elano avenue in mission terrace around 2:00 yesterday morning. ricardo ron and his daughter camilla both died at the hospital. arson investigators still working to determine what sparked the deadly fire. police in richmond released this surveillance video of a man chasing a lyft driver and then firing shots at that vehicle as it sped off. the suspect pulled a gun on the driver last thursday night. the suspect told him to stop at a gas station to get snacks. the driver saw his chance and drove off. the suspect opened fire and hit the vehicle. the driver wasn't hurt. later that night richmond police arrested marcus dean. he's charged with attempted murderg volves more than one tr agency, say you take a b.a.r.t. train and get on a muni bus, it could soon be cheaper to get around the bay area.

the clipper executive board approved nearly $600,000 to study fare integration. in other words, this study will look at how to best give public transit passengers fare discou s discounts or transfers when they use multiple agencies during their commute. that study will take 12 to 14 months. relief is on the way for thousands of travelers traveling through sfo. the major progress being made on construction that closed one of the busiest runways there. >> we'll look at the big board. the stock exchange exchange is this morning. and we're getting a "hamilton." before we get our shot, we'll give mike nicco his. >> i will stick to the weather.
