joosh i i'm luz pena. six fires broke out within miles of each other. firefighters ruling out the possibility of arson. >> we're tracking weather this week for what will increase the fire danger in the accuweather forecast. >> aquatic park off limits to swimmers and boaters. we'll tell you why. abc7 news starts now. >> announcer: now news to build a better bay area from abc7. >> right now six fires are actively burning in the hills east of milpitas. firefighters have been fighting the blazes since noon today. good evening, thanks for joining us. i'm erik thomas. >> and i'm dion lim. cal fire is now calling the group of fires the reservoir fire.

abc7 news reporter luz pena spoke to fire investigators and she joins us in the south bay. luz. >> reporter: dion and erik, they will continue on scene investigating the fires on the perimeter around them. at least 40% is contained. two columns of smoke where only spring valley fire chief needed to see to call cal fire. >> as he made his way in and as they were dispatching out for engines to respond, he saw a third, eventually we ended up with six separate fires. >> reporter: the call came in at 11:37 a.m. it shows the fire in the east hills of milpitas. ground resources began to contain the six fires. firefighters are now ruling out the possibility of arson. >> arson is always a possibility in something like this, but you also have the possibility of -- you can have cars driving along the road and you can have

catalytic converters kick stuff out of the exhaust, and he and we get road starts like that as well. >> reporter: according to cal fire, the six fires combined have burned a total of 128 acres in this area. the fires are burning near the calaveras reservoir east of milpitas in the grassy area. no homes or buildings are threatened by the fires. in the hills todd and cheryl say they are concerned about ready. >> the shocking, it's a concern for our homes and our livelihoods. >> we collect loved ones, pets and photo albums and you get ready to evacuate if you need to. sure, it's concerning part of living up here. >> reporter: yesterday cal fire reported two other fires. eight fires in two days. is that normal? >> it's not normal. but that's why it's under investigation. we're trying to figure out what has happened and where it takes us. >> reporter: let's keep in mind we are, in fact, in fire season

for now. calaveras road will remain closed. in milpitas, luz pena, abc7 news. >> luz, thank you very much for the report. >> all right. meteorologist drew tuma joining us now with the weather. things warming up out there. >> dion and erik, the new threat for fires will be on the rise in coming days as even hotter air moves into the bay area. out there right now we've cooled off into the 50s and the 60s. right now we'll dip into the 353550s for the most part over the next 12 hours. by tuesday and wednesday the heat is on area wide, and that heat will come from some strong gusty winds. an offshore breeze will start to kickoff monday evening. for that fact a fire weather watch will go into effect especially for the north bays d hills. calistoga, clear lake, guerneville included in the fire weather watch as well as orinda, moraga and the east foothills in santa clara county. wind gusts could exceed 40 miles per hour bringing in the warmer

but inviting. in fact it's hazardous. the city posted these signs friday warning the public to stay away due to high levels of bacteria. >> it's not so much what you can see here at aquatic park but it's what you can smell and that smell really gets your attention. it's horrible. many say it smells like sewage. >> disgusting. >> reporter: kyle is worried about his dog yogi jumping in. >> it's honestly a little bit scary. i have -- my dog sees ducks in the water and she'll just go for it. >> reporter: water side workshops, a nonprofit classroom at aquatic park is dry docked for now. >> during the week we take sailing and paddling here at the aquatic park, so we had to shut that portion of the program down. >> reporter: it's a bummer. >> yeah. >> we believe that it is sewage, but we don't know wiscomingfr >>eporter: normally this is what the berkeley and paddle club would be doing, but they can't. president elaine bad en wants the city to do more.

>> we don't see any -- seeing the problem, preventing it from happening again. >> reporter: a city spokesperson tells us it's possible rains earlier this week washed contaminants into aquatic park through storm drains. water testing is happening every week, but until bacteria levels drop considerably, this water is off limits. in berkeley, cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> up and down the golden state, thousands of volunteers were out picking up trash today. >> all of this was part of the 35th annual california coastal clean-up. to change things up this year, the bay area's largest three cities turned it into a friendly competition. >> they called it the battle for the bay to see which city could clean up the most trash. abc7 news reporter unser hassan has the story. >> reporter: it's not garbage day on pier man street in oakland. this is the trash collected by volunteers. >> never seen the community look this bad so i had an opportunity to come out, clean up whatever i

can little by little. it helps out. >> reporter: carlos padilla was among the thousands of volunteers taking part in this year's california coastal cleanup day. it includes cleaning up city streets because clean streets means less trash that ends up in the san francisco bay. alameda county save nate miley also participated. he says more people need to take responsibility for the condition of their neighborhoods. >> it's quality of life. so if you let your communities go deteriorate, it's going to lead to more deterioration, more crime, more violence. >> couches, beds -- it is ridiculous. take your junk to the dump, people. >> reporter: the mayors of oakland and san francisco turned this year's event into a competition. joined later by san b vunteers and cleara. >> the unity,e ve had the largest number of people register on the eastern side of

our city ever. like, it has been absolutely amazing. >> reporter: coastal clean up is one of the longest running volunteer events in california. over 25 million pounds of trash has been picked up since it started. this is team san francisco, but she says this problem is bigger than the bay. >> the planet is important. we have to keep it clean, especially for the next generation. >> absolutely. >> so for the kids. >> reporter: the winning city will be announced next week. in oakland, unser hassan, abc7 news. >> emeryville residents also put their own spin on world cleanup day. check it out. companies like decathlon and ikea partnered to save the bay by plugging. that is the practice of jogging and picking up litter at the same time. hundreds came out to make the by area a better place including girls from urban promise academy in east oakland. they called them she rose

because they are the next generation to save the planet. >> organizers are still crunching the numbers. here are some stats. there were nearly 60,000 volunteers taking part this year. they collected more than 469,000 pounds of garbage. and more than 33,000 pounds of recyclable materials. >> one man is under arrest after a fight turned deadly overnight in san francisco. take a look. this was the scene early this morning at arkansas and mayripoa streets in the potrero hill neighborhood. caution tape had the intersection blocked off as police officers searched the area for evidence. the victim was found a short distance away on kansas street. his name has not been released. >> oakland police are trying a new tactic to keep illegal side shows out of their city this weekend. officers are closing off access to known sideshow hot spots. seven intersections in east oakland at the port of oakland will be blocked off by police. they include the area of 42nd avenue at interstate 880. that's a long-time trouble spot for side shows.

police say the closures should not impact traffic. the department believes the closures are a preventive measure to keep the activity from happening. >> in the north bay there is now a legal fight over smart train testing. the marin independent journal reports a group of san rafael residents have filed a lawsuit over the noise. the tests have been taking place overnight, and the lawsuit seeks to put an end to horn blasts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. smart has not commented on the lawsuit. it's supposed to be wrapping up the testing of the san rafael lark spur extension soon. >> still ahead on abc7 news at 11:00, police are searching for a woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a camp fire victim. details of her crime. >> and people came together in the east bay today, hoping to be ghting for his life. > and we're just days away from fall. we'll give you a

the butte county sheriff's office has issued an arrest warrant for a whom whoes accused of em bezling tens of thousands of dollars from a survivor of last year's deadly camp fire. 29-year-old brenda rose asbury is accused of em bezeling $65,000. deputies are searching for her. the money was part of a settlement the victim received after losing a home in the wildfire. as she fac elder abuse, grand them and embezzlement charges. >> today dozens of people gave type of cancer. abc7 news was in albany at marin elementary school for today's bone marrow drive to help save

nice. a lot of sunshine, a little bit cooler tomorrow than we were today. we'll show you the numbers in one second. live doppler 7 along with satellite tonight showing you the dry sweep across the region. in fact, it's a pretty fog free picture from the sutro tower. you can see the lights of the east bay shimmering in background san francisco skyline lit up in the foreground. accuweather highlights as we walk you through the next couple days, tomorrow the last full day of summer, a lot of sunshine. and temperatures mild to warm. a few degrees cooler than we were today. but those temperatures really take off, especially tuesday and wednesday. we're talking about a heat wave area wide including along the coast line. you're going to feel the warmth as well. and that warmer weather will get ushered in by some very gusty wind starting monday afternoon. that's going to increase our fire danger, especially tuesday and into wednesday. so we have that fire weather watch that will go into effect monday evening for the north bay mountains and east bay hills with that enhanced threat of wildfires. numbers out there right now at

66 in oakland, about 69 in san jose. 61 in the city. cooler in novato, a current temperature of 65 degrees. doppler 7, tracking clear skies overhead right now. we'll stay mainly clear overnight tonight. the bigger picture that will influence that little bit of a cool down tomorrow, this area of low pressure out of the gulf of alaska will slipcalifornia over hours and drop those temperatures a couple of degrees from where they were earlier today. so overnight tonight, mainly clear skies out there. even along the coast, just limited patchy fog. temperature wise we'll drop into the mid if not lower 50s overnight tonight. so i'll break down your day tomorrow. really looking beautiful out there. a lot of sunshine from the get go. temperatures starting out in the 50s. you'll notice a few high clouds streaming in from time to time, but all in all it's a sunny afternoon, and those temperatures, mild to warm, upper 60s along the coast line. around the bay shoreline a lot of 70s.

afternoon highs, 73 in the city. 85 in san jose and concord. up to 88 degrees under mainly sunny skies. future tracker temperatures, the numbers begin to take off on monday. monday afternoon. our warm est spots going back into the mid 90s away from the coast line. watch what happens on tuesday. those numbers really jump. we're talking about high heat in a lot of spots, especially away from the coast. those numbers hitting that century mark, even along the coast line. look at that, we're in the upper 70s if not lower 80s. thanks to that offshore wind supplying us that heat. and again, that wind could be gusting pretty high. high fire danger begins monday night and we're really focusing on the north bay mountains and east bay hills. those gusts will likely hit 40 miles per hour. combine that with with really low humidity in the nighttime hours, high heat in the daytime. that means any fires that can start very easily can spread rather quickly. we'll be vigilant over the next couple of days as that fire weather watch goes into effect.

tulare to north calaveras. >> a placer county boy was killed after he was mauled by a family pitbull. sheriffs responded to a 911 call at 3:00 yesterday afternoon and discovered the boy badly hurt inside the home in the granite bay community. the boy was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. animal control took the dog away and it is currently in quarantine. according to the sheriff's office, the attack appeared to be unprovoked. >> what started as an internet hoax, inviting people to storm area 51, has turned into a party in the nevada desert with far fewer people taking part than anticipated. an estimated 3,000 campers and festival goers have convened in rachel, nevada near the once secret air force facility. law enforcement expected 30,000. an evening music festival was supposed to happen. that was canceled because of a low turnout. one trucker stopped to check it all out. >> i think they're silly. they say they can't stop us all.

it had begun with what passes for a traffic jamb on nevada highway 375. one car, an event so unusual that in these parts even the cows take notice. we were 09 minutes north of las vegas at an average speed of 85 miles an hour. any trace of civilization had long since disappeared from the airwaves, but that should hardly be surprising for a stretch of road which runs between -- nowhere. and not much else, unless you consider the little town of rachel, though inhea town may b stretching the point. >> we're isolated out here from it is and nd the world is not because of the architecture. >> how can you explain a light about 3 inches around that came through the door itself, shot 6 feet into the room, and illuminated the entire doorjamb? >> we felt a presence. have you ever felt someone

an 11-year-old boy with special needs and his mom are furious after a teacher moved his desk into a bathroom. lukas goodwin's mother danielle said she'd spoken with the teacher about her son's autism and autoimmune disorder and that he does best in a quiet place. they say the teacher's solution was to put lukas's desk over a toilet and give him a camping mat to nap on the floor. she snapped these photos then took her son home. >> sad. stressed. embarrassed. it was like, how is this happening? how am i in the bathroom? why? >> i just took the picture because i didn't even believe what i was seeing. it's not an appropriate place for anyone, especially for lukas who, with his condition, can't be around germs. >> the school district in bellingham, washington, said space has been an issue. it has removed the desk from the bathroom and will continue to investigate. >> all right. one last check of weather.
