complaint about the call but the president is pushing back against claims he tried to bully a foreign leader into doing his political bidding. he's labeling the allegations the ukraine witch hunt. the trump administration is facing a thursday deadline to hand over the whistle-blower complaint against the president for congressional review, or else house speaker nancy pelosi says be prepared for a whole new stage of investigation. the issue, what was said in a july phone call between president trump and the leader of the ukraine. so far the trump administration has refused to allow the whistle-blower's complaint about that conversation to be released to congress even after the inspector general for the director of national intelligence determined the complaint was credible and of urgent concern. the president initially refused to say if former vice president and political rival joe biden came up on the call. then on sunday -- >> the conversation i had was largely congratulatory. was largely corruption, all the corruption taking place. was largely the fact that we don't want our people, like vice president biden and his son, creating to the corruption already in the ukraine. >> reporter: "the wall street journal" reports trump repeatedly pressured eight times

the foreign leader to investigate biden's son hunter for his business dealings in ukraine. the country's foreign minister is backing up the president's insistence that there was no pressure. >> i -- i know when i give pressure. and that was not pressure. >> well, if that's the case, why doesn't the president simply release the transcript of that call? >> reporter: something the president has not ruled out. >> we'll make a determination about how to release it, releasing it, saying what we said. >> the acting director of national intelligence will face the house intelligence committee in an open hearing thursday. he is expected to be asked about why that complaint wasn't handed over to congress as required by law. this all comes as president trump prepares to meet with ukraine's president later this week at the u.n. general assembly. as tensions continue to mount, iran is promising to unveil a new regional peace plan at unga this week. the iranian president delivered a speech during a parade showcasing his country's military arsenal. he called on western powers to leave the region and let tehran

and other gulf nations handle the security. secretary of state mike pompeo is defending the decision to send more u.s. troops to saudi arabia after that massive attack on its oil facilities. >> apparently the iranians are bloodthirsty and looking for war. president trump and i are looking for a diplomatic resolution to this. >> iran is still denying responsibility for the saudi oil attack and warned that any retaliatory strike will lead to an all-out war. a new poll shows elizabeth warren may be the new front runner in the race for the democratic presidential nomination. senator bernie sanders is third. many candidates were meeting voters over the weekend at the traditional iowa steak fry. that same poll says just 1 in 5 voters have made up their minds. nearly two-thirds say they could be persuaded to support a different candidate. the search for a missing 5-year-old girl in new jersey is entering its second week. an amber alert is in effect and a reward for any tip that leads to her return is growing. here's abc's mona kosar abdi. >> reporter: police expanding the search and offering a

$35,000 reward as the family of a missing new jersey girl holds out hope she will be found. this surveillance video showing 5-year-old dulce maria alavez with her family right before she was taken in broad daylight on monday. ♪ hundreds gathering at a vigil at the bridgeton park where dulce was last seen playing on the swings with her little brother. investigators say an unidentified man may have lured dulce into a red van with tinted windows. >> i was looking for her, and i asked people around us, and i couldn't find her. >> reporter: her mother telling police she was in a car 30 yards away when her daughter disappeared. >> all of us are missing her, her brother, her aunt, everyone. everyone's worried about her. >> reporter: dulce's family urging anyone with information not to be afraid of police as dozens of officers, neighbors, and the fbi continue the search for the little girl for a sixth

day. officials are reassuring anyone with information they are not concerned with immigration status. mona kosar abdi, abc news, washington. >> our thanks to mona there. on opposite sides of the country, opposite weather >> puerto rico is on alert for a storm system in the atlantic basin. tropical storm karen may reach puerto rico, and jerry is near bermuda. another system off the western coast of africa is expected to become a hurricane by tomorrow night. >> on the west coast the hot and dry is ripe for brush fires such as this one northeast of los angeles. it trapped some hikers, but they were not injured and later rescued. the trial of a former dallas police officer charged with murdering a man in his own apartment begins today. opening statements are set in the case against amber geiger. geiger claimed she'd mistaken botham john's apartment for her own when she fatally shot him last september. jurors will be asked to decide if geiger is guilty of murder, a

lesser charge, or if she committed no crime at all. it is the end of road for travel agency thomas cook after nearly 200 years. the collapse of the agency, which includes an airline, leaves more than 150,000 british vacationer stranded. the british government has hired dozens of charter airlines to bring them home free of charge. thomas cook was started in 1841. meanwhile a new theory about the mystery illness called the havana syndrome. u.s. and canadian embassy workers in cuba's capital began falling ill back in 2017 with some suffering brain injuries. investigators believed high-pitched noises might be to blame. canadian researchers now say that sickness may have been due to a pesticide used to fight the zika virus. now an update on the beer money request gone viral. >> we've been telling you about the college football sign carson king held up on espn's preshow this month jokingly asking for cash to buy a case of beer. people sent king beer money through venmo and then some.
