look at those flames. for now thank you for joining us. >> that fire is a perfect example of what everybody's worried about. current red flag conditions. pg&e has not shut off the power in our yet, but it might if the fire risk becomes too great. >> power has been restored to 22,000 customers where the electricity was shut off yesterday to prevent wildfires. >> the highest wildfire is in the north bay. a live look from our camera. it's because of the combination of three factors. you have heat, humidity and winds. >> drew is tracking the weather conditions that could qualify as dangerous. >> it is windy and hot across the bay area. that combination this time of year does increase the fire danger. we have that red flag warning in effect and it will continue until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. winds gusting close to 20 miles

per hour. we do anticipate these winds ramping up late tonight. we have that red flag warning for the north bay mountains and east bay hills. the winds are gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. lasting until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. humidity is dry in spots. any fires can easily start and spread. look at those numbers. it is a hot evening across the entire bay area. 82 in the city. it's 87 in oakland and cloverdale is 102 degrees. we have that heat advisory that expires at 7:00 p.m. tonight and another advisory begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. we are not done with the heat. we will show you when we'll find cooler weather and the fog returning in a few minutes. >> thank you. in san francisco city pools will be open for free , the second day in a row because of this hot weather. normally scheduled activities

will continue as usual. one lane will be kept open. three cities have opened cooling centers because of the hot temperatures and they'll be open again tomorrow. pg&e may still shut off the power to reduce the risk of wildfires. wayne spoke to people who are dealing with that possibility. >> reporter: sun, heat, dry grass, but not a lot of winds in the north bay much of today and yet, would you call this dangerously hot? >> kind of for fires. >> reporter: so what amounts to a next two worst case scenario waiting to happen if it happens. the sweet tea restaurant, his refrigerator has some $20,000 wor worth of food at risk with the electricity being turned off. >> i think it's a new reality we have to deal with. it's something that we need to find and we're looking into the

extra engines are looking for problem spots. leslie road along with them. >> reporter: there is not only the usual fire engines on standby in oakland, but two extra engines are patrolling the hills. there's a state les engine prepositioned in oakland. >> as you know over the last few years with major fires, we're always behind trying to catch up when these fires start. our plan today having extra people out, extra engines out, they'll be able to get a jump on anything that might start off a fire. >> reporter: on a day like this a spark could take off with terrifying speed. >> i have the innnoticed how drf the trees are. >> reporter: as you can see with the red flag alert the fire

department closed down miller park to all visitors. they did allow a phone crew to continue shooting today inside the park, but they were required to hire a private fire watch team. >> keep an eye out for what's going on. pay attention to the weather. if the wind starts picking up, maybe not barbecue at that time. >> reporter: fire wants to get more residents to sign up for ac alerts on their cell phones. they say it's not a matter of bringing in more engines on days like this, they want people to pay attention and give them a call if they say anything that could potentially start a fire. you can find out about dangerous weather conditions through our news app. we'll send out alerts about things like spare the air alerts and pg&e power outages. you can customize the app for the topics that you're interested in. cal train reports one of the trains struck a person on the

tracks near san jose about an hour ago south of the station. sky 7 was over the scene where the train was stopped. major delays are expected on service toward gilroy. buses are being sent to help. a crackdown on people breaking the law around the rail crossings. this video showing people ignoring traffic lights, warnings and gates at a crossing. there have been 20 accidents so far this year. september is rail safety month. santa clara county has approved a ban on the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under the age of 21 amid reports of people dying from a lung disease related to vaping. one in threeave tried vaping. also today the state of massachusetts announced a four-month ban on sales of vaping products, seven deaths have been confirmed. there have been 530 reported

illnesses across 39 states. we haven't hit flu season yet, but two people have died from the flu. this according to reports. we are joined live now with what's unusual about these cases. >> reporter: good evening. we don't have a lot of details. only that the two people who died were under the age of 65. santa clara county had to report them. >> one of our cases had been traveling overseas, got i i i while traveling and became ill and passed away once they returned. >> reporter: that case involves a child that officials say was previously healthy before getting the flu. the other death involved an adult who had other health complications. >> from what we know the adult would have gotten the infection here. they had underlying chronic

illness that would have put them at increased risk. >> reporter: these are the first flu deaths this year. last year eight people were killed in the county. >> the only thing we can predict is it's unpredictable. >> reporter: more flu vaccines have been ordered already. >> i ordered more and they said they expected more this year and there's already a lot more demand this year for them. >> reporter: next door to the pharmacy at this urgent care clinic, some concern about flu season starting now. >> this year we're seeing a few more people early so you might want to go and get the flu shot at this point so you can develop the anti-bodies against it. >> reporter: adding to that point, something else to note is that it's only september. typically flu season starts mid

on behavioral health services in san francisco. funding was announced for 15 more treatment beds to provide mental health care to the homeless. there are hundreds of beds available to people, but finding an available bed wasn't simple until now. we are joined live to explain exactly what's changing. >> reporter: let me put it this way. when you try to buy tickets for a concert or baseball game, you go online to see which seats are available. well, very similar to that beginning in november some of these nonprofits with available beds will make that information accessible online in real time. when there's an empty bed at a treatment center, the health department is usually notified via e-mail, but that's done only once a day in the morning. >> on any given night there are a number of beds available.

>> reporter: the mayor says those beds could go to people that need them that evening instead of waiting until the next morning. until now there hasn't been a way to get the exact number of empty beds at treatment centers online and in real time. in november seven centers will be connected online and know the availability sort of like when you select an airplane seat online in real time. >> this is how we're able to track people so we can basically provide the kind of support services so not one organization is off doing what they're doing on their own. this is a more efficient way. >> i was stopped in a homeless shelter. i was sleeping. >> reporter: following that incident this man began suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder, but he sought out help. not everyone does. of the seven nonprofits sharing information health right 360 is the largest with treatment beds.

there are 4,000 homeless people with mental illness and substance use disorders. what about those using drugs who aren't seeking help? today the supervisor introduced legislation demanding that the health department declare a public health crisis. last year 259 people died in san francisco of drug overdoses. >> where is our plan to stop the biggest killer today which is drug overdoses? >> reporter: this is what the supervisor says is needed and this is what he wants. he says narcan, he wants that to be more accessible. he wants to see more drop-in clinics, more detox clinics. he represents district six. that includes neighbors such as civic center where we are. those are areas with a lot of

drug problems. i'm live in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> thank you. the bay area's high housing costs contributed to the current homeless crisis. >> one san francisco neighborhood people put out boulders on the sidewalk so there's no room for tents. the question we're asking is this helpful or harmful? >> go to abc 7 news.com. it was interesting when we started this it was heavily in favor of harmful and now it's swung 72% in helpful. we will leave the poll open as we bring this story from clinton park. >> reporter: you're looking at a turf war one night that got to the point where everybody was done. this was the tipping this neighbor who wants her voice to be heard, but her identity protected. through a neighborhood facebook group they raised more than $2,000 to a solution for a

problem they say got worse with time, drug dealers. >> i was talk to the head of our encampment crew earlier today about that. they are out on clinton park regularly. >> reporter: rachel confirmed that her department did respond to multiple requests from neighbors at clinton park. during six months these neighbors attended multiple city meetings in search of help. in one of those meetings someone unofficially advised these neighbors to buy boulders and here they are, 24 of them. maybe the first time a neighborhood has worked together to deter drug dealers and homeless encampments in this way. >> they're not a tripping hazard. there's no parking there. >> reporter: the city is not an ne tignihbors. in the past the city has placed barricades to end encampments and planters were placed by a business. back in clinton park eric says he's coming back tonight to sleep. >> someone will come around eventually and tell you to move

morning those winds to race out of the north close to 40 miles per hour. the good news by late tomorrow morning into the early afternoon on wednesday the winds will subside. that red flag warning will expire at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and the fire danger will be greatly lessened. in the south bay tomorrow it's 95. along the peninsula, 94. the coastline, half moon bay, 81 tomorrow afternoon. the city we hit 90 today. we'll do it again tomorrow. 90 in san francisco and 91 in south san francisco. the north bay is hot, the east bay, low to mid 90s. 92 in oakland. inland we're hitting that century mark.

justice stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by paula jones. he was ultimately acquitted. >> we're early in the process here, but what are the steps because you mentioned this is a lengthy process. >> reporter: that's right. this is a three-step procedure at the federal level. first congress must investigate. that's what nancy pelosi announced today. then the house must pass by simple majority the articles of impeachment. that in turn formalizes the allegations committed by the president and once that happens that's when a president has been impeached. then the senate tries the president with the chief justice of the supreme court presiding. two-thirds of the chamber must vote to convict. should that happen that's when removal from office happens. >> all right. thank you. we first sent out the alert about the impeachment inquiry through the news app at 2:14 this afternoon. the app is one way to stay on top of news, but enable the push

alert feature. an auto repair shop accused of making unnecessary repairs will lose his business license after a one-year california undercover investigation. >> we broke the story last year when agents raided the shop and we are joined now with an exclusive update. >> reporter: just minutes before the scheduled hearing was to begin, presiding law judge cleared the courtroom for an unschedud settlement meeting. three hours later the state announced the terms of that settlement. a smiling and confident entered the building in oakland. he later told us off camera he has nothing to worry about and would act as his own attorney. his several undercover witnesses standing by to testify, the judge asked everyone to leave. the judge met with him and the

deputy state attorney. that judge also banned our camera from the courtroom. we took these pictures earlier. donald johnson is with the bureau of automotive repair. >> he sold work that wasn't necessary and he charged for work that wasn't performed. >> reporter: the accusations are the result of an undercover sting in which cars with known defects are brought in by agents posing as shoppers. >> we see if the repair facility successfully repairs the vehicle, repairs it properly, repairs as invoiced. >> reporter: we brought you exclusive pictures of a raid back in june of investigators entinterrogation. >> there was a settlement agreed to. it was a settlement conference

how could one forget dusty, the real cat burglar that became a sensation after the world after the story aired about him in 2017. >> he's been picked as the grand marshal of the pet parade. we visited dusty before the bigg event. >> reporter: remember dusty, the cat burglar who stole more than 600 items from neighbors in three years. here is dusty today at the old age of 13. how does he spend his day? >> sleeping. he's sleeping a lot. >> reporter: neighbors still think of dusty as a celebrity. his story got more than 1 million hits on social media. it took him on to news programs all over the world. he appeared on the david letterman show. >> look at that. >> reporter: jay leno had some

in the people in the know. i spent time with general managers. a lot of time with coaches and scouts through the years because it's something i'm passionate about and something i've always had an interest in learning and kind of understanding better. >> are there similarities when you're looking for talent in terms of baseball and hockey that cross over? >> i don't think there's any question. i think the character and they're willing to sacrifice, how they go about their business and the process to be as good as they can be, i think it mirrors each other. i know what i'm looking at as far as a hockey player's skill level on the ice and off the ice. >> what was it about the sharks that made you want to be part of this organization? >> i think they're classy and smart and cutting edge and they're good people. that's what i need. i don't need to do anything i don't feel like doing and i'm at this stage in life i'm attracted to those i know are real and genuine and talented. >> after a win saturday, cal
