a 9-year-old in nevada created his own version of the award-winning movie "baby driver." he took his mom's car for a six-mile ride on a las vegas highway sunday. 9 years old. an adult driver trailing him recorded the video and tried to keep him safe. there were some close calls but no one, amazingly, was hurt. the boy took the car while his mom was showering. no charges were filed. just 9. >> wow. the wife of "shark tank" star kevin o'leary is facing charges in that deadly boat accident in canada. >> linda o'leary was charged with careless operation of a vessel for her role in last month's crash. here's abc's eva pilgrim. >> reporter: he's been one of the stars of the abc show "shark tank" for 10 seasons. >> there has to be a better way. >> reporter: kevin o'leary's

wife is facing serious charges after a boat she was piloting on lake joseph in ontario, canada, last month slammed into another. two people on that boat died including 48-year-old suzanne brito from ontario, three others were injured. police charged 56-year-old linda o'leary with careless operation of a vessel. the pilot of the other boat, 57-year-old richard riu, is facing charges for driving without navigation lights. the "shark tank" star owns the boat but is not facing charges. o'leary and his wife have a home on the lake in ontario, often posting pictures of friends and family on the water on social media. the accident happened late at night and the winds were calm. eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. >> our thanks to eva there. the o'learys released a statement tuesday saying their thoughts and prayers are with the victims. >> if convicted, linda o'leary is facing 18 months in jail or a $1 million fine. a pilot was able to walk away after his small plane crashed into tops of trees in

central new jersey. >> the rented cessna engine failed and that's when the plane wound up suspended about 70 feet off the ground. the man at the controls waited four hours to be rescued. the plane still there in the trees. federal investigators will be there on the scene today. high school students outside philadelphia are singing the praises of a teacher who's been on the job longer than some of their parents have been alive. >> her name is barbara benlean and she's celebrating her 50th year in the upper darby pennsylvania school district in delaware county. the long-time music teacher is known for being dedicated to her students and very direct with them as well. >> i have a sign on my piano that says, "it's not mean, it's the truth." i often think i use that as an exemplar for what the kids can do, but i always ask them to do better and to raise the bar every day. >> she has impacted so many

the artists. >> we've got the '80s, we've got the '90s, we've got the 2000s. we do begin with the tipping point on capitol hill. house democrats launching an official impeachment inquiry against president trump. >> speaker nancy pelosi accused the president of betraying the oath of office and violating the constitution by seeking to pressure a foreign power in an attempt to undermine former vice president joe biden for political gain. the president fired back slamming the move as a witch hunt and chalking it up to presidential harassment. but he agreed to release the transcript of his phone call with the president of ukraine later today. >> democrats are demanding more. they say the whistle-blower who complained about the phone call wants to meet with lawmakers and they want that interview to happen tomorrow. abc's mary bruce has more. >> reporter: she's resisted for months but speaker nancy pelosi finally made her move. >> the times have found us today. i'm announcing the house of representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. >> reporter: it comes just days after the president acknowledged he had asked the president of ukraine to investigate his political rival joe biden and

his son hunter. the president admitted that days before the conversation he ordered his chief of staff to halt nearly $400 million in foreign aid to ukraine. but he insists holding that money was not an attempt to pressure the ukrainian president. >> and there was never any quid pro quo. >> reporter: the president has offered shifting reasons for why he stopped those payments. he said he withheld the money because he wanted to get ukraine to address corruption. >> why would you give money to a country that you think is corrupt? >> reporter: but he said he withheld those hundreds of millions for a different reason. >> i want other countries to put up money. i think it's unfair that we put up the money. then people called me, they said, oh, let it go, and i let it go. but we paid the money, the money was paid. >> reporter: there is no evidence joe biden or his son acted improperly with regard to ukraine. the candidate fired back at president trump. >> if we allow a president to get away with shredding the united states constitution, that will last forever. >> reporter: while the president was at the u.n. -- >> what is your reaction to that, sir? >> reporter: capitol hill was a flurry of activity. a wave of democrats declaring now is the time to impeach. >> we cannot delay.

we must not wait. >> reporter: and in front of a packed crowd, nancy pelosi was asked if the president had committed impeachable offenses and gave a hint of what she was about to do. >> and if that is the case, that the president of the united states asked a foreign government to assist him in a political way, that would be wrong. >> would it be impeachable? >> reporter: just a few hours later, pelosi made her position crystal clear. >> the actions of the trump presidency revealed dishonorable fact of the president's betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security, and betrayal of the integrity of our elections. >> reporter: speaker pelosi is making it very clear the tipping point for her was the president's own admission that he talked to a foreign leader about investigating his political rival. that is what broke the dam here for pelosi and scores of other democrats. there are now at least 181 members, more than two-thirds of house democrats, who say it is time to impeach. a big day on capitol hill. sources tell abc the white house is considering allowing the whistle-blower to cooperate with congress. >> now that the official inquiry is under way, it could take

months for the impeachment process to play out. abc's terry moran tells us what happens next. >> reporter: this is a historic day. but we're a long way from any kind of vote to impeach president trump or remove him from office. here's how it will go down. facts and evidence. speaker pelosi has instructed the six committees that are already investigating president trump to quote proceed under that umbrella of an impeachment inquiry. depending on the facts and evidence they develop, articles of impeachment could be drafted then on bribery or high crimes and misdemeanors, that sort of thing, then voted on. we're a long way from that. it's a big step. it's clear nancy pelosi would not have taken it were she not prepared to take that step. she does know one thing,

wither from accuweather's adam del rosso. >> tropical storm karen packing a punch to puerto rico as well as the virgin islands. we're talking some spots, especially in the mountains, up to 14 inches of rainfall as we head into the middle part of our wednesday. this storm's going to continue to move to the north, slow down, then drift west ward, potentially toward the bahamas as we head into next week. jerry is going to be passing to the north of bermuda. breezy winds, heavy rainfall, but this storm unless the process of weakening. however, we're tracking additional heavy rainfall across southern portions of arizona and new mexico which could lead to some additional flooding and some severe weather as we head through or wednesday. >> adam, thank you. the death toll is climbing from the rare mosquito borne virus eee. >> at least nine people have now been killed. the most recent deaths were in massachusetts and connecticut. there are also nearly 30 other confirmed or probable cases in seven states. officials don't expect that outbreak to ease until cooler weather arrives for good. also officials have approved a four-month ban on the sale of vaping products and devices. during that time state authorities will work with

health officials to better understand illnesses linked to vaping. the ban is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. in california leaders in los angeles california have given a preliminary approval to a ban on flavored e-cigarettes and products. another wealthy parent is going to jail as part of the varsity blues scandal. devin sloan sentenced to four months in prison, community service, and a fine. he admitted to paying $250,000 to get his son into usc as a water polo player. with tears in his eyes he told a boston federal court he could not justify his behavior. workers at a credit card processing company in idaho are celebrating an early christmas present. >> their ceo dan price surprised them by announcing virtually all of them will receive an immediate raise of $10,000. >> also staffers currently

an explosion in western new york left two people dead. the blast wiped out a house in richmond just outside rochester. clothing and other debris were seen in nearby trees. the victims' identities have been confirmed but an 80-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife lived in the home. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. now to a massive drug bust at sea. >> the coast guard intercepting a submarine in the pacific ocean. more than 12,000 pounds of cocaine worth $165 million. abc's will carr reports. >> reporter: the coast guard busted that 40-foot narco sub trying to sneak into the united states under the cloak of darkness. inside, 12,000 pounds of cocaine packed in those tightly wrapped bales worth more than $165 million. authorities with the help of the colombian navy arrested four drug smugglers in the process. earlier this year the coast guard made this daring bust in the eastern pacific.

desperate race to reach the fourth floor and that sprint down a long hallway where they encountered their now former colleague. >> i thought it was my apartment, i thought it was my apartment. >> reporter: several officers taking turns performing cpr on jean. and prosecutors highlighting this video to suggest guyger received preferential treatment, not isolated initially, seen here hugging a fellow officer. allowed to sit in a patrol car looking at her phone while jean was rushed to the hospital. she claims after an almost 14-hour workday she mistakenly went to the wrong floor of her apartment building. when she walked into what she thought was her home and saw someone inside she assumed it was an intruder and opened fire. prosecutors pressed one responding officer about protocol when an officer believes a burglary is in progress. >> what do you do?
