football games are canceled because of the threat of gang violence. >> i'm in santa clara where police have issued a challenge to the public. help them find this man who allegedly attacked a 91-year-old man who was visiting his wife's grave site. i'm in san francisco. movie theaters are banning costumes ahead of the release of the controversial film "joker." now from afc 7, live breaking news. that breaking news is out of martinez. a grass fire is burning up awe hillside. happening on sunrise drive.dr firefighters are saying they are getting the upper hand on it. we will have updates on abc news. this is an unprovoked and ruthless attack on one of the most vulnerable members of our

society. >> the search is on for the suspect who attacked a 91-year-old man while visi htingwa his wife's grave s. it happened saturday morning at the mission city memorial park in santa clara. >> that's where we are tonight with the investigation. santa clara police issuing a statement, help them find their suspect. this is the sketch of the man accused of attacking a 91-year-old man. only in ay theeaold man wasattacked at vi wife's grave site.

>> it's something that he does almost on a dale whether i basis fairly regularly. he even brings a lawn chair, sits by her side and spends some time there with her. >> reporter: captain kazem said the suspect stole some of the man's things and fled on a bike. the suspect is described as 35 to 50 years old, 5'9" to 6 feet tall. >> they like chasing a lot of skills. >> memorial park is quiet and a nice place to walk his dogs. he says he can't believe anyone would attack a 91-year-old man. >> to pick on someone of that age or any age actually. i think it's disgusting. >> reporter: kyle and his crew are out here on a weekly basis installing tombstones. he said the cemetery is usually very peaceful. >> i didn't think anything would happen like that around a cemetery. usually people are pretty respectful when they come to

places like this. >> reporter: police say some visitors at the cemetery saw the attack and called 911. they are wondering if this was a random attack or if the man was targeted. they had some leads but it did not pan out. >> new at 11. a person was struck and killed by a smart train in rornert park at a crossing tonight. it's the third time someone has been killed by a train at that intersection since june. this week is rail safety week. two detectives stationed at the crossing witnessed the incident. one detective jumped out and tried to save the victim. it was too late. a sky diver was killed when she was hit by a big rig after accidentally landing on a freeway today. >> it happened around 2:30 p.m. the chp said the female sky diver landed on 9 southbound lane of 99 in lodi.

>> one of the parachutists collided with the rear trailer of a big rig truck tractor. >> the accident caused a chain reaction of collisions with at least three other vehicles involved. nobody else was injured. authorities said she was jumping with a lodi palodi palodi paloda >> the owner said they believe 18 people have died while jumping there but that they do not keep count. today's windy conditions rekindled a grass fire on mayer island in valeo. it took them more than an hour to bring the 40 acre fire under control. the fire was sparked yesterday after five power poles were intentionally cut down most likely by copper thieves. a shooting in the east bay today. a car riddled with bullet holes showed up at this pleasant hill chevron. the person inside was asking for

help but then the car took off before police arrived. later someone showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. officers were trying to piece together what happened. in the east bay the threat of gang violence forced officials to cancel games until tomorrow. it's left players and coaches disappointed. we spoke to team members. >> reporter: all is quiet on san leandro high school football field. practices have been canceled. >> heard they were going to come to our field and i guess start shooting, i heard. that's what he said. he wants to keep us safe. >> reporter: he is the head coach and they are gang members. administrators from both schools agreed to cancel the games out of an abundance of caution. they say they'll be rescheduled soon. >> looking at times we can reschedule. hopefully if we can find some time that they both can work, it looks like, you know, we have a

tentative date. >> reporter: coaches are not sharing details and the games will not be open to the public. the reason for staying tight-lipped is safety. >> we have to be safe. rather to be safe than sorry. >> reporter: that doesn't take away from the disappointment felt by many varsity players who wanted to play friday regardless of the threat. >> i'm not worried about it. i want to play football. we don't think any concerns or anything about it. we don't really think anything will happen. >> i had coaches coming and look at us, really look at the whole team and we came clean. so i feel like it's jeopardizing our season a little bit and just pushing things back. >> reporter: if for some reason the games are not rescheduled, they'd be marked as no contest and not a forfeit. now to washington where president trump is lashing out over the impeachment inquiry. today lawmakers also got their hands on the whistle-blower

investigation at the center of it all. rachel scott is in washington with the prospect of a lengthy impeachment fight. the nation's top official pivoted between lawmakers and the white house. >> you went to the white house first so you went to the subject of the complaint for advice first about whether you should provide the complaint to congress? >> if it does have executive privilege, it is the white house that determines that. >> reporter: joseph maguire, the acting director of national intelligence defending his decision to keep that complaint under wraps. at the center of the dispute, a july phone call between president trump and the president of ukraine where the president repeatedly urged him to investigate his potential 2020 rival joe biden and his son. the president defending that call. >> my call was perfect. >> reporter: but from his own party a few signs of wavering support. >> i want to say, mr. president, this is not okay.

that conversation is not okay. >> reporter: in the complaint the whistle-blower said white house officials were deeply disturbed and reported hearing that officials were directed to remove the electronic transcript from the computer system. >> the president behind closed doors vented his frustration in this audio. >> who is the person who that gave the whistle blow -blower t information because that's close to a spy. you know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? right. the spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now. >> reporter: president trump has raised questions about the credibility of the whistle-blower. they had no reason to believe they were being disloyal to the country adding that the whistle-blower did the right thing by coming forward. rachel scott, abc news, capitol hill. back in the bay they're hoping to identify the climate

evacuation drills to see how fast passengers and crews can get out. it will involve 720 different kinds of people like a child sitting in a parent's lap. a cabin suddenly plunged into darkness. the faa's goal is to decide on a minimum seat pitch that would allow passengers and crew to escape in 20 seconds. pitch is the distance from one seat back to the other. right now low cost airlines like spirit is 28 inches. most other airlines is 31 inches. the emergency testing will take place in november. "the joker" is one of hollywood's biggest blockbusters in theaters. some have banned costumes. some worry this film will inspire real life criminals. >> can you introduce me as joker? >> reporter: the movie won't hit

theaters until next week but it already comes with several warnings. >> is it just me or is it getting crazier out there. >> reporter: they are warning people of a possible shooting at a movie theater shooting of "joker." the 2012 aurora theater theaterr happened at "dark knight rises." this could inspire another act of violence. others weary of the whole theater experience. >> i don't feel safe going to the movie theater anymore. >> reporter: many movie goers enjoy wearing costumes of their favorite characters. you may want to think twice. landmark theaters want their guests to enjoy "joker" but no masks, painted faces or costumes will be permitted. while amc says costumes are okay but weapons or anything that covers your face are not allowed. >> people are afraid of the

and we're all going to sleep better hopefully. let's take a look at live doppler 7. gray skies all the way into santa rosa spilled over into the east bay and is pushing towards the santa cruz area. so that is definitely going to continue to thrive those temperatures down. today anywhere from 15 to 30 degrees cooler here in the bay area. right now we're in the 60s compared to 24 hours ago running 13 degrees cooler in concord downra 1s air force base and it is 8 degrees cooler in san jose. so let's check out the highlights as we head towards the weekend. we are going to notice first thing tomorrow morning widespread low clouds. overcast with some spotty drizzle. even cooler tomorrow afternoon with below average temperatures into early next week with a combination of sun and clouds. as you take a look at a live picture from em moryville, it is a shaky camera.
