the driver of that truck is okay. on't have any information about the man who died. we don't have his age or name at this time. they just got the highway cleared. the street sweeper just came through here. at one point they only had two lanes open. now all lanes of traffic are open. reporting live from pleasant hill, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. also new this morning, mountain view police are looking for clues after a person was shot. the shooting happened at a home along san carlos avenue around 9:45 last night. paramedics transported one gunshot victim to the hospital. no word on if anyone has been arrested. police have not told us what led up to the shooting. the time is 4:30. we'll get a quick update on weather and traffic where you live. >> good morning to you. hi, everyone. starting out with mild temperatures again with all of that cloud cover. look at the numbers. it is not even 5:00 in the

morning, 66 and the clouds have not made it yet into san jose. 64 in vallejo. temperatures overall cooler than where we have been still compared to yesterday. as you look at the outlook for today, we're cloudy, misty, drizzly and temperatures will slowly warm into the lower 70s with sun and breezy winds later on today. >> give yourself extra time. we have that traffic alert on southbound 680 making your way through pleasant hill and into walnut creek. an earlier fatal accident has been cleared. you can see traffic is still recovering. so we have some brake lights making your way southbound near treat and geary. also that's the accident there. there's another injury crash southbound 680 in san ramon at el costa. we're tracking another injury crash in oakland, northbound 880 at 23rd. a lot of accidents early this morning. this is a live shot of

interstate 880 for taillights heading towards the bay bridge. now to the impeachment battle in washington. this morning we're learning that top white house officials knew that complaint ces f acia officer. inez has that and the push back from the president's closest confidants. good morning. the whistle-blower claims some in the white house were so concerned about what they heard in that phone call that they took steps to try to cover it up. >> reporter: this morning allegations of a coverup at the white house revealed in the whistle-blower complaint that sparked the impeachment inquiry. >> if it were any doubt about the need for an impeachment proceeding, there's none now. >> reporter: the whistle-blower's complaint lays out concerns that president trump was using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the

2020 election when he asked the ukrainian president to investigate his political rival, joe biden. the whistle-blower says senior white house officials had intervened to lock down all records of that phone call especially the word for word transcript. >> is it okay for a president to pressure -- any president to pressure a foreign government for help to win an election? >> it is unwarranted, it is unwelcome. >> reporter: on thursday lawmakers grilled joseph josephp who kept the whistle-blower's claims under wraps for weeks. >> i think the whistle-blower did the right thing. >> reporter: president trump taking a different stance behind closed doors, an audio recording obtained by the "los angeles times" shows his growing frustration. >> i want to know who is the

person who gave the whistle-blower -- who is the person who gave the whistle-blower the information? because that's close to a spy? you know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? right? with spies and treason. we used to handle it a little differently than we do now. >> what's next in that impeachment investigation? analysts say lawmakes will get to try to corroborate that whistle-blower complaint and they may try to subpoena white house officials to do that. >> thank you. developing news, firefighters have stopped a wildfire that burned near homes in martinez. the flames charred about two akers along a hillside on sunset drive. one fire crew is on the scene to make sure the fire doesn't start again. firefighters told us cooler temperatures and higher humidity made it easier to contain the fire. investigators are looking for what started it. developing news this morning, santa clara police issued a plea for help to find a

person who attacked a 91-year-old man while he was visiting his wife's grave site. this happened last saturday morning at the mission city memorial park. this is the latest sketch police have given us of the suspect who attacked the victim with a rock. investigators say the suspect stole some of the main's thin's and got away on a bike. he is 35 to 50 years old, 5'9" to six foot tall with a medium build, with slicked back gray hair and gray mustache. the 91-year-old man was relet d released from the hospital and is recovering at home. in north day a police woma from being hit by a train. two detectives stationed at the crossing saw a woman good underneath the gates. one detective tried to pull the woman away from the tracks, but it was too late. this is the third time that someone has been killed by a train at that intersection since

june. in the east bay, a youth delegation is planning to rally outside chevron corporate headquarters in san ramon. the upwigroup will demand that chevron get off fossil fuels by 2025. they want governor newsom to require companies to phase out oil production statewide. the protest will start this morning at 9:00. in the south bay, san jose's presentation high school is hiring an outside law firm to investigate past reports of sexual abuse and misconduct at the catholic girl's school. several former presentation students claimed that administrators mishandled their complains about sexual misconduct. one student wrote about her experience in the "washington post." presentation hired a law firm that specializes in sexual harassment complaints and workplace in schools. abc news is committed to building a better bay area to solve the problems most important to you. one of the biggest pain that

many communities are sharing is trying to cheat the system by evading b.a.r.t. fares. b.a.r.t. says that fare evaders cost them from millions of every year. so to stop fare cheats, b.a.r.t. leaders approved new swing gates. they feature two clear doors that swing open and then they close on their own, similar to the ones that muni has. replacing these older gates is expected to cost 1$150 million. if you are planning on catching the new film "joker" think twice about going in costumes. a lot of theaters are banning dress-up. and a truck full of bicycles stolen from an east bay non-profit. t and a massive data breach exposed the personal information of millions of people. all of those stories are coming up. first, it's headquarter 37.

the first weekend of fall coming up. >> thanks. a civil rights group added dozens of new entries into its database of hate symbols. one of the new entries is the okay hand gesture. the anti-defamation league says it is used by far-right extremists as an expression of white supremacy. also added to the list is the bowl hair cut. the bowl cut image or emoji is used by white supremacists to symbolize roof who killed nine black parishioners in a south carolina church in 2015. the database was launched back in 20000 help law enforcement and others to recognize the signs of extremist activity. new accusations are being levied against dunkin' donuts for not telling thousands of customers that they were a part of a security breach. new york's attorney general is suing the coffee and doughnut empire for the hack. nearly 20,000 customers had their online account information stolen. prosecutors claim that they

failed to investigate and warn more than 300,000 customers in another cyberattack last year. how much candy are you planning on buying for halloween? the annual survey may surprise you a little bit. u.s. consumers are expected to spend more than $25 on candy. that's going to amount to about 2$2.6 billion. so then if you start adding in the halloween costumes, decorations, and the greeting cards, shoppers will spend $86. that totals about 8$8.8 billion overall. surprisingly that's actually down from 9 billion last year. 68% of americans say they plan to celebrate halloween this year. it falls on a thursday. do you get dressed up? >> no, but i eat the candy. good morning. we're looking at some mild temperatures in the 60s out there. that's due to the cloud cover.
