luz. >> reporter: dion, i literally just got off the phone with one of the pios from san mateo police department. he confirmed that this is in fact an officer-involved shooting that began at 5:19 p.m. let's hear from one of the witnesses. right in front of multiple apartments a shooting broke out according to witnesses. >> rapid gunshots. at least like 15 to 20. and then we heard a ton of cop cars and ambulances and stuff. >> reporter: the shooting took place right across from john lake spalding. she described the scene as chaotic with at least 30 officers arriving on scenend asking residents to move out of the way. >> from our balcony we could see that there was a white car parked all the way down the street and it clearly had been shot. there was would windows that were missing. >> reporter: according to witnesses, two people inside the white vehicle in question were taken to a hospital. >> some of the officers and paramedics leaning down on the ground. so i think the people were already on the ground and then they put them into the ambulances and drove away. >> reporter: as the suspect's

vehicle advanced twrd officers and their vehicles an officer did discharge his service weapon. two suspects were injured in the shooting and were rendered aid on scene before being transported to a local trauma center. that's all we have here from san mateo, luz pena, abc 7 news. >> still a very active scene. we appreciate that report, luz. thank you. in the north bay now tonight a fire in sonoma county is under control after forcing evacuations. that blaze broke out just before 3:00 this afternoon along state route 121 near shellville. it ripped through an event center that also had some residences. abc 7 news reporter lisa amin galician has more on the fire that destroyed some buildings but spared lives. >> this is where i used to live. now i'm looking for a new home. >> reporter: mark foley spoke out of fear as he watched the fast-moving fire whip across garden pavilion events center. he lives in the victoria house which ended up being spared. >> a good quarter of the property or more is gone.

>> reporter: cal fire dumped water on the blaze, which forced 100 people to evacuate and shut down two weddings at cornerstone gardens and a 70th birthday party at the pavilion. you can see party hats, wine, food left behind as guests ran. >> they set up tables. that's completely gone. all these barns all in the front are completely gone. all the vehicles are completely gone. and the shed building is completely gone. >> reporter: the fire started in this ditch on state road 121 in front of the pavilion events center and across from gloria ferrer winery. it headed south and then the wind picked it up and pushed it right into a building. >> i guess the lord picked today to have the wind the way it was. this is like the windiest it's been in weeks. >> reporter: the wind only add to the list of problems firefighters faced. >> just trying to figure out where it's going with the smoke laying on the ground, blowing like it was, trying to do the evacuations. you know, covering the different roads, making sure that it

hadn't gotten through. didn't ember cast out on us. >> reporter: roads were closed traffic was diverted out of the fire zone. for evacuees all of this brings back vivid memories from the north bay fires. >> just a couple years ago we were all running for our lives. >> reporter: in this case three buildings were lost. the cause is under investigation. in sonoma county lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. meteorologist drew tuma now standing by with a look at the weather conditions and in this case it was a pretty windy day. >> yeah, it was. winds earlier today, dion. some spots were gusting close o'to 50 miles per hour. thankfully tonight the winds are slowly backing off. a little breezy in spots right now. half moon bay currently gusting to 23. 30 in san carlos. but everywhere else the winds are less than 20 miles per hour. and future weather showing you as we go throughout the early morning hours tomorrow the winds will continue to calm down. by 11:30 a.m. on our sunday morning it's a very light breeze out of the north. nowhere near as strong as it was earlier today. so great news there.

7 news. families looking to let loose and get lost in the petaluma pumpkin patch's famous corn maze were turned away this morning when a man running from police hid in that maze hoping to evade officers. as you can imagine it was quite a spectacle at the stony point road pumpkin patch when officers arrived looking for 29-year-old ryan kenneth watt. he is accused of violating a restraining order by stalking his forme girlfriend repeatedly online and in person and using a gps tracker he secretly planted on her car. petaluma police tried arresting watt at a homeless camp this morning. that's when police say watt ran across all lanes of highway 101 and sat refuge in the sprawling corn maze. >> a needle in a haystack would be a good description. it's about four air-conditions' worth of corn maze. and having been in that corn maze myself with my own kids i can attest that it's not easy to walk through even under calm and placid circumstances. let alone looking for someone hunkered down in it. >> lieutenant crosby said every on-duty petaluma officer

with rampant drug dealing in their neighborhood. city public works crews rolled the gigantic boulders back onto the sidewalk of clinton park alley. that's between dolores and valencia. this morning. you are looking at new video. and that is after someone rolled the huge rocks onto the street yesterday as you're look at photos from twitter. 24 boulders have been set up on the sidewalk by neighbors legally. they say it's all meant to discourage drug dealers from congregating in front of their homes. the action has been criticized by anti-homeless groups and others. well, be prepared for delays on highway 24 and on bart if your travels take you to the east bay this weekend. bart is once again doing work between the orinda and walnut creek stations. you are looking at video of some of the construction that's been going on the past several weeks. two lanes of highway 24 are closed in the eebds direction, and no trains are running between the orinda and walnut creek stations. bart is running a bus bridge which could add up to 40 minutes

festival. 26-year-old trevor er bechlt was among three people killed on july 28th at christmas hill park. he was visiting from upstate new york. the memorial will take place at kowalka college. erbe recently graduated from the school. a memorial scholarship has been set up in his honor. just about 100 teenagers were glammed up by professional makeup artists and hairstylists for a special prom night. check it out. for the fifth year in a row kiezer permanente hospital in oakland organized the pediatric prom. the event gives patients who were in or out of the hospital this year a chance to experience a prom night. some of them missed their prom due to chronic illness or a recently discovered illness. but tonight it was all about the dancing. >> everyone gets to get together and have fun and like no one's being judged. we all have something going on and we get to be with people you love. like if you brought a prend. it's great to be surrounded by happiness. >> the dresses and food were all

donated by local businesses in the area. the patients walked the red carpet and took pictures on a photo booth to remember the night. this year's theme was titled around the world to highlight diversity and inclusion. well, several san francisco giants greats turned out today to honor peter mcgowan. the team's former president and managing general partner died in january from cancer. abc 7 news was at oracle park at his bronze plaque, which was added to the team's wall of fame. mcgowan formed the ownership group that purchased the team back in 1992 and kept it from moving to tampa. he helped the giants get a new ballpark and the wall of fame was his creation. >> well, it's a wonderful day for peter. he loved the giants. and he loved the wall of fame. >> and having his plaque, first non-player after 52 players, shows that leadership, that you don't necessarily have to play the game in order to have a huge role in the success of a franchise.

satellite. you can ski there was a little bit of severe weather just to our east earlier today. we actually hay tornado warning just to the north of davis as a cell kind of swept through here. everything is weakening as we speak. but to our north there's the system that continues to circulate around oregon right now and this will give us a chance of an isolated in the north bay tomorrow. future weather tomorrow morning will wake up to weak winds and also a lot of sunshine by 8:00 in the morning. winds will continue to stay weak but the clouds will be on the increase. so by 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, tluk see future weather in the north bay. the chance of a shower popping up. if you do see one count yourself lucky because it will be very isolated in nature. and then when the sun goes down any chance of a shower will get out of here but the clouds will kind of linger for the end of our sunday. future weather again showing you the best chance of finding any wet weather. once again goodevening, everybody. i'm dion lim. in tonight's headlines an update to our top story. two suspects were shot by a police officer in san mateo this evening during a chase. san mateo police say an officer spotted a car loitering in the parking lot of the hillsdale shopping center just after 5:00 this evening. the plates didn't match the make and model of the car. that's when he tried pulling it over. but the speeder sped -- the driver sped off. police say the occupants threw credit cards out the window and

yesterday. deputy sandeep dhaliwal was the first member of the sikh community to become a harris county sheriff's deputy. he gained national attention years ago when he received permission to wear a turban as part of his uniform. dhaliwal was shot and killed by a man who had a long rap sheet and was wanted on a parole violation. shocked community members collected donations for his family. >> i just had time this morning before i go to work, and i said let me come out, see what i can do, give a donation. and just show my support because this is happening far too often. >> the deputy's accused killer was arrested after that shooting. dhaliwal is survived by his wife and three children. funeral services will take place on wednesday. a service today honored our state's fallen firefighters. ♪ during the ceremony 34 names were added to the memorial wall outside the state capitol. those remembered include a total of four bay area firefighters

from san jose, rodeo hercules and two from contra costa fire. this is the 17th year that ceremony was held. there are over 1,400 names on the memorial. in other news, another horse has died at santa anita park in southern california. it's only the second day of the horse track's fall meeting. a 3-year-old colt was euthanized after it was determined the horse had two broken forelimbs. 30 horses died during santa anita's winter-spring meeting. and that led activists to call for the park to be shut down and to reform safety protocols and medication usage. over the summer hall of fame trainer jerry hollendorffer, who is from the bay area, was banned from santa anita and other tracks under the same ownership. four of his horses died at santa anita. well, mexican music icon jose jose has died after a long battle with cancer. the legendary spanish-language singer was nicknamed the prince of the song. he revealed two years ago he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
