news to build a better bay area, this is "abc 7 mornings." good morning. it's sunday, september 29th. i'm liz kruetz in for kusami aaron. here's lisa argen. >> good morning. we're starting out for a clear start for most of you. a little fog out there, chilly, temperatures down to the low 40s and still looking at the cool air headlining our weather today into tomorrow and a portion of tuesday. as we look at current numbers, check it out. plen plenty 40s and you see 49 in napa, 50 in oakland. the skies are clear, the winds have backed off and we are anywhere from a degree to 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. it continues. the cool down today, the winds have eased up and we'll start

out with a clear sky, 40s and 50s, not going to see many 70s today, in the 60s throughout the morning and afternoon hours. maybe about 70 in sympatan jose today. >> stay on top of the weather with the abc 7 news app. it is free to download in the app store. enable the push notifications. now developing news, san mateo police are investigating a shooting that involves officers who injured two suspects. police say they were patrolling the parking lot of the hillsdale shopping center when they spotted a car they believe was stolen. the driver and second suspect led officers on a chase and threw credit cards out of the car along south el camino real. the suspects hit another car and ended up in a cul-de-sac. officers got out of the car and approached them when the suspects drove their car towards officers and one officer opened fire injuring them. detectives are trying to answer questions. >> why were they throwing credit cards out of the car.

what is up with the vehicle in question. they're checking the vin number, the license plates tha belong to the vehicle. our investigations bureau will be working around the clock on this to find out what exactly was happening. >> it is unclear what condition the suspects are currently in. "abc 7 mornings" reporter luz pena spoke with witnesses. >> rapid gunshots and we heard a ton of cop cars and ambulances. >> reporter: the shooting took place right across from her building. she described the scene as chaotic with officers asking residents to move out of the way. >> from our balcony we could see there was a white car parked had been shot. there were two windows that were missing. >> reporter: according to witnesses two people inside the white vehicle in question were taken to hospital. >> some of the officers and paramedics leaning down on the ground so i think the people were already on the ground and put them into the ambulances and drove away.

>> reporter: luz pena abc 7 news. police are 8:00 last night in the parking lot of the petaluma village premium outlets. police say they received several reports of gunshots and a car crash. when officers arrived they found a man inside a car who had been shot and tried to save him but were unsuccessful. police believe the man did not die by suicide. in the north bay a fire in sonoma county is under control after forcing some evacuations. flames sparked just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. you can see on the map along highway 121 near schellville. it ripped through an event center. abc 7 news reporter alicia has more on the fire that did destroy some buildings but did spare lives. >> this is where i used to live. now i'm looking for a new home. >> reporter: marc foley spoke out of fear as he watched the

hees inicicendeupei a guarter s rter: calir dumped water on the blaze which forced 100 people to evacuate and shut down two weddings at cornerstone gardens and a 70th birthday party at the pavilion. party hats, wine, food, left behind as guests ran. >> they set up tables. that's completely gone. all the barns and fence are completely gone. all the vehicles are completely gone. and the shed building is completely gone. >> reporter: the fire started in this ditch on state road 121 in front of the pavilion event center and across from gloria ferrer winery. it headed south and the wind picked it up and pushed it into a building. >> the lord picked today to have the wind the way it was. this is the windiest it's been in weeks. >> reporter: the wind only added to the list of problems firefighters faced.

>> just trying to figure out where it's going with the smoke laying on the ground, blowing like it was, trying to do the evacuation, covering the different roads making sure that it hadn't gotten through, didn't ember cast out on us. >> reporter: roads were closed and traffic was diverted out of the fire zone. for evacuees this brings back vivid memories from the north bay fires. >> just a couple years ago western all running for our lives. >> reporter: in this case three buildings were lost. the cause is under investigation. in sonoma county, lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. happening today, a memorial service will be held for one of the victims of july's mass shooting at the gilroy garlic festival. 26-year-old trevor irby was among three people killed can on july 28th at christmas hill park. he was visiting from upstate new york. the memorial will take place at coca college in new york state's finger lakes region. irby rooenlt graduated from the school. a memorial scholarship has been

set up in his honor. rovro shooting near richmond high school. police say it happened friday after a football game at abc 7 news reporter has new video released by investigators. >> reporter: the sound of gunshots clearly heard on this new surveillance video released by richmond police. people can be seen running away. it happened near de anza high school friday night after a football game ended versus rival xepoleas valley high. >> we have about four to five people. >> officers responded to the 3300 block of morningside drive where there was reports of a fight. when they arrived on scene, they heard gun shots in the area and saw a large group dispersing. >> reporter: there was chaos and panic minutes after the shooting. police say three teens, a girl and two boys, were wounded.

two of them in serious condition. >> this is a very unfortunate event right now. we have three victims that don't appear to be associated to any part of a fight or any gang violence. >> reporter: police don't yet have a motive for the shooting. >> it's sad. yeah. it's a great community. >> reporter: parents can't believe it. >> it's hard enough for kids to go to school without violence, gang related, whatever issue it is, you know. >> reporter: investigators are still looking for suspects. they may have left the scene driving a dark colored sedan. if you have information, call police. in richmond, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. listen to this, families looking to let loose and get lost in the petaluma pumpkin patch's famous corn maze were turned away when a man running from police hid in the maze hoping to evade officers. quite the spectacle yesterday morning at the stony point road pumpkin patch. when officers arrived looking for 29-year-old ryan kenneth watt, accused of violating a

restraining orderer by stalking his former girlfriend on-line and using a gps tracker secretly planted on her car. a homeless camp when they say he ran across highway 101 and sought refuge in the corn maze. >> it's called four acres worth of corn maze. having been in that corn maze with my young kids it's not easy to walk through even under calm and placid circumstances let alone looking for someone hunkered down in it. >> every on duty petaluma officer searched for watts and got help from the chp and a fixed wing airplane. he was arrested without incident at 11:00 a.m. this afternoon democratic presidential candidate kamala harris will open her first california campaign office in oakland. yesterday harris was in the bay area as well and visited the manila town heritage museum for meet and greets in san

francisco. the california senator has seen her poll numbers slip recently here in her home state. at yesterday's event she was asked about the impeachment inquiry launched into president trump's dealingings with ukraine. >> donald trump will do everything he possibly can to distract from the fact that he has been running a corrupted administration, that he is in the process of being impeached and that he has violated the trust the american people. >> today senator harris will be joined by congresswoman barbara lee opening at grand avenue. it starts at 3:30 p.m. a new development in a san francisco controversy involving large sidewalk boulders installed by some residents who say they are fed up with rampant drug dealing in their neighborhood. yesterday, city public works crews rolled the gigantic boulders here back on to the sidewalk of clinton park alley between delores and valencia after someone rolled the rocks

on to the street on friday. these photos were posted on twitter. 24 boulders have been set up on the sidewalk by neighbors legally. they say it's meant to discourage drug dealers from congregating in front of their homes. some have criticized this saying it is anti-homeless. be prepared for delays on highway 24 and on bart if your travels take you to the east bay today. bart is once again doing work between the orinda and walnut creek stations. this here is video of some of the construction that's been going on the past several weeks. two lanes of highway 24 will closed in the eastbound direction and no trains are running between the owe rid da and walnut creek strations. bart is running a bus bridge which could add up to 40 minutes in travel time. the work wraps up tonight. this afternoon giants fans will celebrate and say thank you to the retiring skipper bruce bochy. yesterday bochy received a huge honor from san francisco mayor london breed, keys to the city.

. welcome back. new details behind the motivation of 13 arson fires set near milpitas last weekend. the mercury news reports the suspect told investigators he was in a quote emotional state over his wife's death. police say freddie graham was in town from missouri for a 50th high school reunion when he set the fires. his classmates say he appeared happy at the reunion. graham is being held on $2 million bail. spacex ceo elon musk unveiled a spacecraft designed to carry a crew into space and then land back on earth vertically. musk spoke at spacex's launch sp facility in texas last night and said the starship spacecraft is expected to take off for the first time in one or two months designed to eventually reach the

moon or mars. it is also designed to be reusable. locally happening today, a huge crowd is expected for an event that can best be classified as only in san francisco. the 36 annual folsome street fair billed as the biggest lake tahoe festival is taking over part of the south of market neighborhood today. if fulsome street will be closed between 8th and 13th streets. the festival is expected to drive 250,000 people and features 200 vendor booths and live music. it runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. all right. 100 teenagers were glammed up by professional makeup artists and hair stylists for a special prom night. for the fifth year in a row kaiser permanente organized the pediatric prom. see video from last night's event who gave patient this is and out of the hospital this year a chance to experience their own prom night. some of them missed their prom due to chronic illness or recently discovered illness. last night it was all about

it was wdy yesterday, i know. the winds upper elevations quite breezy but at the surface things are much calmer, clear and chilly we are looking at not only that cold air but some of that moisture could arrive in our higher elevations. looking at an isolated shower possibly in the hills and warmer days arrive mainly wednesday into the end of the week. a look at the way it's going to pan out today. 2:30 in the afternoon you can see some of the clouds moving on in mainly in the north bay. check out some of the green here that continues to press from the northwest to the southeast and stopping this at 7:00 could see an isolated shower, maybe lake county through santa rosa and you'll notice some of the puffy we call them strat toe cumulus clouds throughout the afternoon and they will continue to slide through the bay area by the afternoon hours and once we get that heating of the sun. here is a look from today through tomorrow afternon. precip potential. yeah, isn't this interesting. couple hundredths here in the

east bay, novembato could see a couple inches. temperatures right now 30 at truckee, 32 tahoe valley airport. the winter weather advisory, another couple inches of snow expected. certainly has been slick out there, but check it out, through tomorrow afternoon, couple inches in tahoe city, donner looking at 4 inches and elsewhere just trace amounts. we saw that yesterday. didn't really stick. but little more is possible. as for today, still some breezy winds along the coast. highs only in the low 60s, starting out with plenty of sun and getting some of the cloud cover and the possibility of maybe a light shower in the higher elevations. look at the highs bairl a 70 out there. we're looking at mid 60s for some of you. richmond and oakland, 69 san jose, upper 60s in napa and tonight some 40s possible. looking at the accuweather seven-day forecast a chance of showers maybe in the north bay with 60s coast, upper 60s around

friday. the deputy was the first member of the sikh to become a harris county sheriff's. he was shot and killed by a man who had a long rap sheet and was wanted on a parole violation. shocked community members collected donations for his family. >> i just had time this morning before i go to work and i said let me come out and see what i can do, give a donation, and just show my support because this is happening far too often. >> the deputy's accused killer was arrested after the shooting. funeral services will take place wednesday. a service was held to honor our state's fallen firefighters. ♪ during yesterday's ceremony, 34 names were added to the memoria. those include a total of four bay area firefighters from san

jose and two from contra costa fire. there are over 1400 names on the memorial. another horse has died at santa ana park in southern california. yesterday was the second day of the racetrack's fall meeting. a 3-year-old colt named m tech was euthanized after it was determined the horse had two broken forelimbs. 32 horses have kide at santa ana's winter spring meeting since then. the death led activists to call for the park tore shut down and reform safety protocols. the chief veterinarian for the group that owns santa ana as, quote, as is protocol for santa ana we will hope an immediate inquiry into what factors could have contributed to m tech's injury. it is no secret that life after football can be rough for former nfl players. yesterday abc 7 news was at ucsf

slight chance of a shower. let's talk about where we should be for this time of year, where we will be, and the first column is average. we should be about 70 today, in the city. 73 in oakland, mid 70s in san rafael. check out concord,coer than ave cities today lightning up in the 60s. we've had that chill with us and temperatures will really bottom out tomorrow with numbers not even making it out of the 60s. today we could see about 70 in some areas. throughout the morning hours, we've got sun and then the afternoon with those cumulus clouds, the puffy clouds, moving up and over the higher elevations. here we are 4:30 and some of higher elevations will see rain. lake county, all the way up in the north bay, it should be brief but not out of the question to have any of those showers continue and bring maybe wet pavement into your neighborhood. see just a couple hundredths here for san ra moment.

our air cleaner is to restore more of the delta's marshes. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas shows us how research in bay area wetlands may help us breathe a little easier. >> reporter: the sacramento san joaquin delta once one of the lushest marshlands in the state. the pete rich soil made it the ideal for some of the first farms to pop up. today scientists are hacking through thick brush to see if restoring the marshes is a way to reduce carbon die kwox ids in the air. co2 what scientists believe is responsible for global warming. sensitive instruments monitor this wetland as it breathes and absorbs carbon dioxide. >> at the stage of unprecedent the levels of co2 based on fossil fuel combustions. >> reporter: meteorologist dennis says the delta could hold clues on how we can reduce the
