we'll look at another sunny and cool afternoon. by 4:00, we're still in the 60s for most of you. sue? >> good morning. we have some light conditions out there on this monday morning. looking at the east shore freeway in emeryville. lots of gaps between the headlights. moving at the limit from hercules into the macarthur maze. and if the bay bridge is your destination, we'll look at that. very few delays. just some cash folks in the right and left hand cash lanes stacked up. a couple of minutes to get through. otherwise fastrak is moving nicely. a look at 580 westbound out of the central valley, typically slow with speeds under 30 miles per hour. a 40-minute drive from tracy so pleasanton. we're getting reports of a terror attack on a u.s. military base in somalia. abc news reports this happened

at an airfield outside of mog o dee mogadis mogadishu. the terrorist group al shabaab is taking responsibility for the attack. a u.s. official tells abc news there are no american casualties. we'll continue to monitor this story and bring you updates as soon as we get them. now to the impeachment battle in washington. house democrats are moving forward with their inquiry into president trump and that phone call that was made to ukraine. >> serena marshall has the latest. >> reporter: as the impeachment probe heats up the president's alleys doubling down. >> salem chwitch trials had mor due process. >> did they have firsthand knowledge? was there a bias? this individual has problems on both of those accounts. >> reporter: going on the offense, attacking the unknown whistle-blower's credibility even as the intelligence

community's trump appointed inspector general found the reports to be credible and of urgent concern. the president arguing he deserves to meet his accuser. the whistle-blower's attorney expressing serious concerns we have regarding our client's personal safety explaining certain individuals are offering a $50,000 bounty for the whistle-blower's identity and cited these comments made by the president last week obtained by bloomberg. even with the concern, the whistle-blower is ready to testify. >> we allow that testimony go forward in a way that protects the whistle-blower's identity. >> reporter: a new poll shows nearly two-thirds of the americans saw the president's actions on the call as a serious problem. even the president's own former homeland security adviser said this week he's deeply disturbed by the call. >> it's a bad day and bad week for this president and this

country if he's asking for political dirt on an opponent. >> reporter: congress may be on recess but democrats continue to move forward with the impeachment inquiry setting up depositions, hearings and issuing subpoenas, even as the house speaker says that call is one part of their investigation. serena marshall, abc news, washington. turning to the race for the white house. senator kamala harris opened up her first california campaign office, it's in oakland. she's calling this her hometown headquarters. she was joined by a crowd of supporters and volunteers. liz pena was there. >> reporter: it was a packed house. volunteers and supporters of kamala harris were on the roof, in the hallways and backyard of the new headquarters in the oakland. >> reporter: the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us. >> reporter: throughout her

to their caucuses. >> she will be able to make a break through in california if she does well in iowa. >> reporter: the first iowa caucuses will take place on february 3, 2020. the suspect accused of setting 13 fires near milpitas is expected to enter a plea deal. freddie graham was in town from missouri for a 50th high school reunion when he set the pyfires. the "mercury news" reports graham told investigators he with us in an emotional state over his wife's death. graham is now being held on $2 million bail. a battle over sidewalk space in san francisco has taken another turn. abc news was at clinton park alley where several boulders are back on the street. on saturday city crews rolled the boulders back on the sidewalk after someone moved them on to the street friday. 24 boulders have been set up legally on the sidewalk by neighbors.

here's our roof camera. heading out, we're looking at conditions on the dry side. small craft advisory in the afternoon. so getting choppy if you're coming home on the ferry. looking at your morning ride from san mateo to half monsoon bay, redwood city would see trace amounts of precip. later on in the south bay, a cool day. the sun is revealed, mid to upper 60s out there. we'll look for conditions to be cool again throughout the afternoon today with 68 in oakland, 67 in napa. numbers are still well below average again today. we'll look for conditions to take their time turning around getting back to normal as we begin the new month tomorrow. it looks like the end of the week we'll see more 80s arrive. hopefully monday morning commute, yes, no? >> pretty light up there so far. you mentioned snow in tahoe. i was up there over the weekend, there were chain requirements on 80 and 50.

. we have a winter weather advisory in the sierra nevada, another one to three inches of snow expected there with highs in the 40s. a few more inches to go and some slick weather out there. as we go through the rest of the day, cool temperatures to the north. looking at mild readings in southern california in the 70s. another day cooler than we should be. it will take some time to get up to october. that means 80s for the inland valleys. a woman faces several

charges after a hostage situation in the lobby of the salinas police building. this 22-year-old was holding a meat cleaver in one hand and had a female victim by the neck with the other. she grabbed the other woman after entering the lobby. police heard the commotion, rushed in with handguns and tasers. they were able to stun the woman and arrest her. >> i do believe that the quick response of our officers helped in de-escalating and getting the suspect under control and eliminating the threat as soon as possible. >> the victim wasn't hurt and we still don't know why the woman did what she did. she faces kidnapping, assault and other charges. she has posted bail. developing news in hong kong, police fired tear gas at protesters and arrested nearly 150 people just one day before china marks 70 years of communist rule. hong kong authorities rejected an appeal for marching on

tomorrow's holiday. protests have been happening since june aimed at a bill that would have allowed the extradition of criminal defends from hong kong to mainland china. the bill has been withdrawn but protesters are calling for direct elections for hong kong leaders and an investigation into police use of force. a bay area couple and their four kids made history. they spent february through august hiking the appalachian trail. >> reporter: at 2,200 miles long, the appalachian trail is the longest hiking foot path in the world. it travels through 14 staytes along the east14 states along t. georgia to main and sebastopol family just hiked entire thing. malone family is back home after six month long backpacking trip. >> planning it before they were born. ♪ >> reporter: 20 years after

hundreds of dollars of deliveries off his porch. the man says he is fed up with criminals stealing packages at his carmichael home. when he was targeted last week he took the surveillance video of the thief and turned it into a giant buillboard on his door. it is designed to warn neighbors in case the thief comes back again. >> if you want to commit the crime, you tack tke the risk of being humiliated. >> the thief made off with baby clothes and air conditioning equipment and he has not been caught. in the east bay, the interfaith community is coming together to fight islamophobia. abc 7 news was in pleasanton where peace activist steve slocum spoke.

>> there is an ignorance. some people take that ignorance and they are affected by some political rhetoric that takes it, you know, really a negative direction. >> he said he had success reaching out to those who want to learn more and understand islam. in the east bay people cheered on colorful 40-foot dragon boats as they raced to the beat of chinese drums. lake merritt had its annual northern california international dragon boat festival. it included cultural performances, food and crafts. more than 120 teams fl s from a the world took part in the event. >> it's been cooler than average. we will continue that theme. when will we warm up? let's fast forward to wednesday. this is the turning point where we will see more 70s around the bay. low to mid 80s. into thursday, we have more 80s. still pleasant at the coast in the 60s.

by the end of the week, i know it's only monday, we will be warming up to average readings. heading out the door, we have cool numbers in the 50s. by the afternoon we'll still be in the low 60s in san francisco. cool there. but elsewhere uppers for most, maybe a few low 70s inland. monday morning commute, hope it's a good one. >> a look at san rafael, making your way southbound on 101. headlights headed in the northbound direction. you are moving at the limit for about a 20-minute drive to the golden gate bridge into san francisco. no metering lights yet, but slow and go at the bay bridge toll plaza. those right and left-hand cash lanes are stacked up. we did have reports of an accident with a car versus a big rig. that has been moved off to the shoulder, that is just before the toll plaza. not seeing it on the live shot. but maybe some of the reason for the slow and go.
