s smooth the ups and downs. now at 5:00 a.m., a wrong-way driver and a taxi collide on highway 101 in san francisco. four people have died. investigators expect to be on that scene for several more hours. drivers heading to the city, you should be on notice. dwogood morning. amy hollyfield will have a live update in a few minutes. it is expected to take hours before all the lanes on 101 will open up. frances is tracking what that means for your commute. >> this is a live shot from the scene. you can see northbound 101. they just reopened the two left lanes. this is right at paul avenue. you can see that taxi smashed on the right-hand side.

we're hearing that the paul avenue off-ramp is shut down as well as the candlestick on-ramp to northbound 101. this will be a mess for the morning. at least some lanes are open. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. i want to take you to the map so you get an idea where this is. it's northbound 101 before 280. traffic was being detoured off at paul avenue, then you could take bayshore boulevard. you may want to avoid this and take 3rd street or really if you can avoid 101 heading out of south san francisco into san francisco and just consider 280, that's a better bet at this point. northbound 101, fatal accident at paul. the two left lanes have just been reopened. now we're going to check weather with drew this morning. it's looking cooler. >> yeah. numbers out there now as we get you out this door on thursday morning, coolest spots in the 40s. 53 in san francisco.

half moon bay a chilly 39 degrees. sutro tower, a gorgeous view. as we look at what to expect later on today -- we'll get back to that. we expect temperatures to top out in the 60s and 70s. enjoy. returning to that breaking news we've been following. four people are dead after that wrong-way driver crashed into a taxi. >> amy hollyfield is live on highway 101 in san francisco. you spoke with chp this morning. are they giving you more details? >> hi, kumasi. we have an update for you. these two lanes have reopened. so that is a better situation. it's so horrific to see this scene and what's left of these cars. i imagine the traffic through here will go slowly as people look at this. you just can't believe your eyes. it's just a shock to see what's left of these cars. four people died in this crash. a volkswagen was going the wrong way on highway 101.

it crashed head on into a ford escape taxicab. this happened on northbound 101. they just reopened these two lanes, since 12:30 this morning all lanes were closed. all the cars were being forced to exit at paul avenue. a bit of an improvement for drivers out here. officers say that they know that even with only two lanes open, it's still going to cause a huge backup during the commute. they don't know when they'll be able to reopen all of the lanes. >> we ask the motoring public to be patient. expect delays. we are doing everything we can to do a thorough investigation, keep the scene safe and open the lanes as soon as we can. >> the driver of the volkswagen was a woman in her 30s they're estimating. they say she died here at the crash. all three people in the taxi also were killed. the driver of the taxi was a man

in his 60s. his passengers, a man and a woman also died. four people dead on the scene. officers are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were involved and maybe that caused the woman to be confused and drive the wrong way. they don't know at this time. they do hope to get this reopened as soon as possible. do keep in mind if you're commuting to san francisco from the peninsula, you will want to give yourself extra time or avoid the area if you can. reporting live from san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you for that update. developing news, this morning on gma george stephanopoulos goes one-on-one with nancy pelosi in an abc news exclusive. >> he is getting her take on the phone call with president trump. jobina fortson joins us in the newsroom with what we can expect from the interview. >> good morning. house speaker pelosi said she saw surprise in the president's voice during that phone call and

right now she believes the president is scared. in a preview of the sit-down with george stephanopoulos, he asked pelosi her stance on having no choice but to move forward with the impeachment inquiry. some democrats were concerned that if they did and the president gets acquitted in the senate, that could actually strengthen him in the 2020 election. so would the inquiry be worth it? here's pelosi's response to that. >> let me just say this, just because the senate may not have the courage to recognize the president's violation of the constitution doesn't mean they're off scott free. we have to have a compelling case as we go forward for the american people and for the senate. so, again, outcomes in election have nothing -- i solemnly wear to uphold the constitution as long as it doesn't make a difference in the election. that's not the oath we take.

would have wanted the best for guyger. the judge even wiped away tears and gave guyger a bible after a jury sentenced her yesterday to those ten years in prison. we're learning more about this bizarre crime in the south bay. an airbnb host unknowingly crashed a party at his own rental and got robbed. it happened at a home in palo alto. kate larsen has the details. >> palo alto has many flavors, but this neighborhood is very, very quiet. >> reporter: not on saturday night when someone threw a party in this airbnb rental attended by about 40 people. >> heard a lot of noises, commotion, had to come out. wasn't clear what was going on, thought people were fighting. >> reporter: around midnight, the owner of the home showed up when his smoke alarm was activated. he was surprised to see a party

when he only rented to two people. >> he's going from room to room trying to get people to leave. he's in a bedroom and approached by two male suspects and they push him to the ground, take his wallet and cell phone. >> reporter: other guests help the homeowner retrieve his belongings, the homeowner called airbnb, instructed him to call 911. >> as that's happening, another male suspect pushes him to the ground, this time taking his cell phone again and stealing a wad of cash that's in his front pants pocket. >> we have a 211 strong arm on our hands here. >> reporter: police showed up, but all three suspects were gone. the house is still listed on airbnb for $328 a night. short-term rentals less than 30 days are illegal in palo alto. neighbors say they are aware the house is rented out as an airbnb and they are not happy about

reopened. you can see with this picture that the right lanes will be blocked. this is right near paul avenue off-ramp. the off-ramp is shut down, it will be blocked for some time as they continue the investigation of this fatal accident. that silver car was a wrong way driver and hit the taxi on northbound 101. here's the map of it. you can see traffic is still backed up on northbound 101 from before candlestick. you may want to get off and take 3rd street. the best bet is considering 280 instead. also another new injury accident in mountain view, northbound 101 at san antonio. four-car injury crash blocking the left lanes. at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are turned on. there was an accident on the upper deck. a hit and run taken off to san francisco city street. the today's gma first look, a new mexico teenager has been arrested after impersonating a sheriff's deputy. he had flashing lights in his

alcohol were involved. that is something that we do look at. not only in this collision but in all traffic collisions especially at this time of the day or night. >> the driver of the taxicab was a man in his 60s. he had two passengers, a male and a female. the male was ejected from the taxi. all three of them were killed. the wrong-way driver also died. police say it was a woman and she was in her 30s. police have reopened two lanes through here. that is an improvement for commuters. but it will be a slow commute through here from the peninsula to the city. give yourself extra time or avoid the area if you can. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

a shooting is leading to a big change for high school football games in the east bay. the west contra costa unified school district is moving start times up to 5:00 p.m. for the rest of the season that's in response to gunfire after a game in richmond that happened friday. three teens got hurt. among the other changes, students from outside the district will only be age to attend games if they're with an adult. games can be canceled at any time if there's a safety concern. in the south bay, gilroy high school's varsity football team is forfeiting the rest of the season after police cited four players for sexual battery. a teammate reported he was assaulted in the locker room and since then ten players have quit the team. we are talking about the impeachment battle in washington. this morning attorneys for the whistle-blower who exposed that controversial phone call between president trump and ukraine says they had no help. >> house democrats are vowing to subpoena the white house. abc news reporter serena

tushar atre. officials identified his body yesterday. officials say atre was kidnapped from his house early tuesday and was last seen getting into his girlfriend's bmw. the car was located near his body. california has 22 new wildfire related laws. one measure signed yesterday will create a network of weather and environmental monitoring stations. another requires utilities lessen the impact on power shutoffs with people with serious medical needs. a judge gave pg&e a week to provide more details on nine fires it admits its equipment started this year. the company filed bankruptcy in january as it faces lawsuits from wildfires in 2017 and 2018. pg&e revealed its possible role in the latest fires in a court filing yesterday. the judge wants to know how many acres burned, what buildings

the decision comes days after the city filed a lawsuit to stop the county from selling its shares of the coliseum to the a's. the city council filed a suit because they want more of a say on what's on the site. also yesterday a judge issued a temporary restraining order on the case. the judge set a november 14th hearing for the city to present arguments on why the county should not be allowed two through with the sale. mayor london breed will announce the opening of the new ferry landing at chase center. the mission bay interim ferry landing at pier 48 will help with service to the arena. service will start on saturday when the warriors play their first preseason game against the lakers. the perry mission bay ferry landing is expected to be completed in 2021. you guys, check out this 2020 corvette convertible. it has a folding hard top roof. gm unveiled this new design this week. the foldaway top is made from a

the cdc says it is aware of more than 800 lung illnesses linked to the use of e-cigarettes. the epa cited san francisco over water quality. among other violations, the epa alleges that the city discharges billions of gallons of untreated sewer water into the ocean. the move follows a claim by president trump that the city is allowing needles and other debris from the homeless to wash into the sea. the epa says san francisco faces various penalties if it doesn't take corrective action. mayor london breed calls the allegations inaccurate. uber is offering to give you more than a ride. they want to help you find a job. uber is getting into the staffing business. according to the financial times, the company is testing a new app called uber works. it matches shift workers with businesses looking to fill temporary slots. the app will initially be va available in chicago before a possible wider roll jute. google is committing to a white house initiative, getting private companies to expand job

at 6:00 this morning we're tracking a major traffic alert in san francisco. four people have died after a wrong-way crash on highway 101. >> we have two live pictures on your screen. the one on the left is from sky 7 over the area near paul avenue. our other camera is actually on the freeway where lanes are still blocked, so many hours after this crash happened. we have live team coverage. we'll start with frances. since we've been on the air, we have seen some lanes reopen. >> within the last hour we saw the left lanes reopen.
