news to build a better bay area, this is "abc 7 mornings." >> good morning. it is sunday, october 6th. i am in for kusami aaron. we'll start with a quick look at weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning to you. we are fog-free and it was a beautiful day yesterday, got on the warm side and we're watching the winds with our red flag warning in effect. 60 daly city, not cooling off too much with upper 40s in the north bay. two to 11 degrees warmer with our red flag warning continuing until 10:00. we're watching the winds breezy in the upper elevation, the air is dry and the relative humidity continues to drop. eaars erwhey, the highlighted

winds, from knoxville creek to mount tam and looking at the temperatures this morning, we will warm up quickly. we'll be about 80 degrees inland by noontime, mid 70s around the bay. look the at the 70s at the coast. autumn heat with us the next 48 hours and then we get a cool down and i will detail that for you coming up. >> thank you. we're following breaking news overnight, authorities say four people are dead and five others are injured after a gunman walked into a kansas city bar and started shooting. first reports came down just after 2:00 a.m. our time. you're now looking at new video of the scene that just came in to our newsroom. at last word police say the suspect is still at large. they also say the five injured victims are going to be okay. of course we'll be checking for updates and let you know as soon as we learn anything new. happening now, a red flag warning is in effect for the rest of the -- for the rest of this morning for the parts of

the bay area. our forecast is making things dicey of course for fire and crews don't want to take any risks. reporter lisa amin gulezian has the story from marin county about how people are taking precaution. >> we don't have like a knife, do we? >> reporter: these campers are on a mission. a red flag warning is forcing them to put their fires out soon. >> right now basically just for the next three hours we will do a bit of a cooking marathon, make dinner and breakfast, seal that up and get it in the cooler. get everything done. >> kind of sucks we can't have a campfire and we have to make like all of our food now. >> better than nothing. >> reporter: the high wind at higher alty taouted the reason for the warning which forced th including those in mount tamalpais state park. marin county fire has upped staffing as well. >> this time of year we see our highest risk of fires with rapid

growth in the north bay, especially the coastal area, due to the fuel moisture being at its lowest points. >> reporter: those in the east bay were still on high alert because of the weather. in danville a four-acre wind driven fire threatened homes near glen court before noon. >> the only damage was property damage which was some of the fence lines were our fire engines actually stopped the fire from progressing past the fence lines. >> reporter: in oakland's oakmore neighborhood dozens turned out to clear brush that could ignite this fire season. >> we want to help out, alleviate any possibility of any fires coming up this season. >> reporter: lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. the red flag warning will be ending later this morning at 10:00. happening today, pg&e says it expects to turn power back on for 10,000 customers in the sierra foothills some time today, although it's not clear exactly when. the utility turned things off last night in butte, plumas and yuba due to the hire fire

danger. crews had been monitoring conditions in counties including napa. stay on top of the weather and any updates with pg&e with the abc 7 news app, free to download in the app store, be able to push notifications. investigators are combing through debris after a series of electrical explosions at huntington beach restaurants. take a look at all this. it happened during an oktoberfest event. four people were hurt, two were actually firefighters. the firefighters had been investigating the initial explosion when another one went off. people who had been enjoying their saturday night up until that point had to say. >> and there was like a ball of flame that came up and we thought it was like maybe part of the show, but then there was another one and my friend grabbed my hand and we started running and there was a third

one. we thought the whole place was going to be on fire. >> officials think an underground electrical vault exploded but the exact cause remainsntnd u we brought that to you as breaking news here on "abc 7 mornings" yesterday. magnitude 3.5 earthquake is sending us all a wake-up call to be ready for the next big one. the quake hit off the coast of pacifica and abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has more. >> reporter: that's what the 3.5 quake sounded like at 8:41 saturday morning. it really freaked out the folks living in this house. >> what the [ bleep ]. >> did you feel it. > i feel it. someone hit my store with a truck. >> reporter: sam was working at this pacifica liquor store when the shaking started, tiny wires on the shelves prevented lots of booze from snashing on to the floor. >> no damage, no. >> reporter: the usgs says the quake was centered a mile off the coast of pacifica.

>> after quake has aftershocks. i believe thise hker happened b major faults, the san andreas and san gre gore yo. she does not believe it's a forethought of something bigger. >> think about pulling up on a blanket, right, most moves the direction you want, but around it you get tiny wrinkles going in different directions and the same with the earth. >> reporter: more than 3,000 between san francisco and the peninsula and east bay reported they felt it. on the usgs website. minutes after the quake bart temporarily halted train service to inspect the tracks but didn't find any damage. >> we weren't ready for it. >> to me it was like a -- and that was it. it was -- but it shook the house, shook the windows. >> reporter: jim and elaine felt it. a good reminder for this couple to check earthquake supplies in their garage. >> here's the extra batteries. >> reporter: elaine and jim lived through the 6.9 loma

preeta quake. >> it was so hard and so long. >> reporter: they know being prepared for the next big one is the only option. in pacifica, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. so if you need to pack an earthquake quake a list of what you should include on our website abc7news.com. a sad ending to the search for a missing woman who went with missing off the waters of the san francisco beach. the 24-year-old's body was found yesterday morning, though it does still need to be officially identified. investigators say she was with friends at mile beach near lands end on friday night when she went for a swim and got swept away by strong currents. a woman in dublin is saying a stranger sexually assaulted her while she was asleep in her home. yesterday police told us that they arrested jatonio simmons. they say he somehow got into the woman's house late thursday night through an unlocked rear

door. she told police she woke up when a man began touching her. she screamed and ran from the house. this morning simmons faces charges of sexual assault and burglary. new season, new arena, new roster. we got our first look at the next era of the golden state warriors. the team played their first game at chase center in san francisco. they faced off against the lakers and suffered a loss, but that certainly didn't stop the party. abc 7 news reporter luz pena spent some time with the ♪ >> reporter: it was a party outside. in charge of getting everyone hyped up. they blew notes. the warriors new music ensemble. >> can we get a pre-halftime situation going on. ♪ >> reporter: fans from all over the bay area came to experience a $1.4 billion chase center. >> much easier to get here than

in the north bay, you may be feeling some delays on the roads because of repairs to highway damaged by flooding. highway 37 flooded in marin county last winter like it often does and has gotten swamped sus.ral times near novato transwillaisehe roadway to try to stop the flooding. construction will happen every night through november 4th and this to atherton and 101. this year there are noticeable differences in the music festival. there's extra fencing put up that you need to get through to go in and out. visitors must go through one of four security checkpoints. restrictions are in place as to what you can bring inside. all the changess are in response

california. otherwise it will be sunny and very warm again today. it is 47 in napa, 60 in san francisco, that's mild, 55 in hayward with low 50s from mountain view to san jose. 46 in morgan hill. here's emeryville. it continues to be gusty in the hills this morning. just checked relative humid on top of mount tam, 27%. the air temperature is 63 degrees. usually we get the relative humidity in the 50, 70, even 100% in the morning hours. going the other way. cooler and continued breezy midweek. a look at wind profile this morning. the direction out of the north from calistoga to napa, looking at gusty winds through 10:00. they'll dial back but still the direction is off shore. light off shore. temperatures will warm quickly today. we're talking much warmer than yesterday. fast forward to tuesday when we have slightly cooler air in here. warm to mild with 70s and 80s.

as we could off you would expect things to get back to near average, but wednesday and thursday we're looking at some wir an w a now in the hills. so our second offshore wind event heading our way by mi san jose. see the high cloud but a warm day in sunniville and mill pe tis. mid 80s, up 5, 6 degrees from yesterday and at the coast it's going to be a warm one. how often do you see 81 in daly city, 83 downtown. it was 75 in san francisco. up in the north bay, 90s arrive in santa rosa, 87 in napa. over into the east bay, about 5 degrees warmer for you too and oakland today at 85, 85 union city. you head inland and numbers near 90s towards brentwood, upper 80s in pleasanton, livermore a host day at 90. still hot again tomorrow although the coastal sea breeze will send relief along the

of people will attend fleet week events throughout san francisco. what exactly is fleet week and how did it come about? well anchor will share history. >> reporter: fleet week is now here in san francisco and that means the navy's blue angels roaring over the city. we know they fly fast and perform intricate maneuvers, but how did the team get its start? as the nation demobilized after world war ii the services were fighting for ways to keep their budgets intact and to stay in the public eye. the navy thought a flight demonstration team was the answer, so a handful of veteran fighter pilots in the aircraft they used in the war began performing air shows. one of the pilots saw the name blue angels in the "new yorker" magazine and thought it was perfect. over the years the team transitioned from prop planes to early jets to the supersonic f-18 hornet. they fly as fast as 700 miles an hour and as slow as 120. they fly as close as 18 inches apart. as you know, they are something

is like most grandmothers and would do anything for her grandson landon. his photographs are all over her san jose home. her phone rang. and on the other end big trouble. >> it sounded exactly like my grandson and he said, grandma, and i said yes. he said, grandma, i need your help. i said what? and i -- i was oblivious. he said, i need you to give me some money. >> reporter: she was told he had been drinking, was in a car accident and had landed in a fresno swral cell. an attorney got on the line and said $7,000 was needed to bail out landon. the grandparents scam, a classic. dorothy did not fall for it. in part because of this 7 on your side report where lisa hardy told us about her father calvin benton who had been taken

in by the grandparents scam. >> they had given him specific directions not to discuss it with anyone, he was terrified that something was horrible had happened to his grandson. >> i happened to be scanning through the channels and saw you were talking to this elderly lady and -- about how she had been scammed on something on the phone thing. and i thought, oh, gosh, that's interesting. you know. >> reporter: then a couple days later dorothy got the bogus call. she tell phoned me and sclair district attorney. this is an attorney in the elder fraud unit. >> protect yourself what's ba paying attention what's going on in the news. >> reporter: now we have two 7 on your side viewers paying it forward. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. >> great that dorothy was able to avoid that scam. a new liquor product is

hour with a look at weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> we're starting with our red flag warning where winds are gusting in the north bay. this lasts through 10:00 and i just checked the humidity dropping through the 20% range. we're at about 23, 25% on top of mount tam with temperatures in the 60s and 70s and that wind direction out of the north/northeast. we're definitely watching that and as we look at the current wind gusts you can see up to 33 miles an hour, knoxville creek and over into mt. diablo, look at that, 52-mile-an-hour wind gusts. this is way up above 2,000 and 3,000 feet for mt. diablo. we're looking at dry winds, drying out the atmosphere. it is in the 50s and 60s right now and that will aid to a quick warmup today. 11 degrees warmer at the coast. as we look at the temperatures notice we're going to be in the 80s by noontime, 80s in san francisco today. kate? >> thanks, lisa. oakland police are investigating a crash that badly damaged at least one car and part of a

home. it happened just before 5:30 last night on 35th street and martin luther king, jr. way. the front end of the car is totally smashed and a fence outside a home is dented. it appears the force of that crash sheared off a pole on the street. though at this time it's unclear what caused the accident or if anyone was hurt. this morning, the white house continues to push against claims that president trump acted illegally during his july phone call with ukraine's president. as house democrats wait for documents subpoenaed to that discussion. >> reporter: the standoff between the white house and congress intense fis. >> this is the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country. >> reporter: the congressional investigation into whether the president sought to strong arm a foreign leader to dig up dirt on a political rival is expanding. house democrats issuing subpoenas for the white house and requesting documents from

chest pains. he was hospitalized and released on friday. sanders returned yesterday with his wife to their home in burlington. yerl in the week she said he would be taking part in the upcoming democratic debate. it is set for october 15th in ohio. new developments, this is the 18th straight week that demonstrators are marching on hong kong. protesters went on a rampage after the government banned a demonstration. a group of pro-democracy lawmakers have filed a legal challenge against the law that went into effect at midnight on friday triggering widespread violence and destruction. police deployed tear gas as thousands took to the streets to defy the ban. police, they ae on high alert around the country this weekend with the release of the movie "joker." oakland's grand lake theater one of many showing the film. there are fears it could spark real-life violence. it tells the story of one i wasconic villains from the

batman universe joker portrayed as a disturbed man who finds relief and his purpose in life by committing acts of violence. the fbi has been keeping a close eye on line and is alerting local authorities about any threats. the fears, of course, stem from the 2012 theater during a showing of a batman film the dark knight rises. >> if you see anything that seems out of place or suspicious, make sure you say something, call 911 and don't hesitate to do so. >> many theaters have gone as far as banning people from wearing costumes or masks for screenings of joker. this morning thousands of safeway workers are waking up with a new contract. the union ratified the three-year deal on friday that provides a wage increase and guaranteed benefits. it covers 14,000 employees at safeway, save mart, food max, max value and vonn's supermarkets. the markets are in northern, central and southern california.

a new kind of advertising is making its way nationwide at -- making its nationwide debut at a bay area airport. the first all digital airport program is rolling out at san jose international airport run by clear chanel airports and includes partnerships with google and alaska airlines. the digital system goes live next month and will utilize more than 80 screens at the airport. nearly 50 million go through every day and will see all the screens. new episodes of your favorite abc shows are coming back for the fall lineup. we're also bringing in some new shows including "kids say the darned and a sneak peek of one special guest right here at ac 7. ♪ >> and that's jaden tyler

could feel a pulse and he was airlifted to the hospital where he's now recovering. video you have to see taken at a hair salon on long island, new york. watch what comes crashing through the window. yeah, that would be a deer. it actually hit a woman sitting on the couch and nearly crashed into the stylist cutting a man's hair. the buck got back on its feet ran around the salon for about 20 seconds before finding his way out the front door. the woman on the couch did have a leg injury and had to go to the hospital. when police arrived the deer was long gone. i have a feeling that deer didn't want to be there anymore than the folks getting their hair wanted to see it. >> wild. go there to chill out and that happens. >> yeah. >> just check the relative humidity along the shoreline where it is about 5 degrees. the relative humidity is 57%. you go up about 1500 feet and e

we're clocking winds 20 to 35 miles an hour. and that is pushing the relative humidity from about 28 to 21% in these areas. the direction conditions to be off shore throughout the day today. in fact, maybe a puff of a sea breeze later on, but mainly for tomorrow, but changes will be subtle throughout the day today and tomorrow we will lose that wind and it will ease up throughout the afternoon. we are looking at 13 degrees above average, san francisco and oakland. low to mid 80s today. how about 87 in san rafael, 88 oakland, redwood city into the mid 80s today. that's five degrees warmer than yesterday. 9 degrees warmer than your average. and san jose, coming up 10 degrees above the average. so as we look at the trend in livermore, getting hotter tomorrow at 92 degrees. then we'll drop the numbers. they'll continue to go below average but we're still looking at the gusty winds and those super dry conditions through the week. highs anywhere from the upper 70s half moon bay to the mid

hundreds of old tires dumped in southern mendocino county and in one of the most sensitive of environments. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman has the story. >> reporter: old tires, worn and spent, stacked like dark tombstones, this suspect a garbage dump it's the water shed off highway 101 in mendocino county where most drivers see signs but not all of them. >> it's just a shock. >> it's trash. it's filth. >> reporter: chris and chris are both stewards of the local environment. they have found multiple dump sites and hundreds of tires. >> these things are toxic, break down, and rubber is not friendly to water. >> reporter: the mystery, of course, is who dumped these tires and where did they come from? there may be clues. these stickers. >> every tire has a serial number tied to aranty and is in someone's computer. it seems really easy to find out what shop they came from.
